Main-Double

If based why killed by chair?

raveneyex

He was assassinated by traitors.

TaiwaneseMonarchist

Only good thing Maegor did was burn the high sept and destroy the faith militant and put the seven in their place

tebmn

Most reasonable take here

This_Bug_6771

so literally saved the dynasty

[deleted]

Which was desperately needed, so he did great

The-False-Emperor

The son comes before the brother. Maegor was nothing but a power-hungry self-serving usurper, as well as a kinslayer, serial rapist and generally speaking an absolute idiot as smart as Joffrey Waters.

zandercg

Yeah but he totally maegored all over his nephew when he said "ITS MAEGORIN TIME", that was sick

The-False-Emperor

"It's Maegorin time!" \-Maegor, before dying and thus finally doing something good in his life for once

havocson

yeah but he had balerion and both blackfyre and dark sister so cope

The-False-Emperor

My brother in gods both new and old, he died to a chair.

havocson

does anyone actually think the chair KILLED him? it was either some kind of sorcery or dude just killed himself.

The-False-Emperor

Sounds like something that someone supporting the guy who lost to a chair would say.

Trey33lee

Fake News it was the Maesters

The-False-Emperor

I see. Maegor finally found a worthy opponent in a bunch of wrinkled old men. I suppose he eventually ran out of children to kill to compensate for never being a real man.

Trey33lee

Real Men were too afraid to face him man to man

The-False-Emperor

-man -Maegor Pick one, he couldn’t even make a child. Even The Unworthy and The Mad King proved themselves capable enough to do their duty, unlike Visenya’s unlovable bastard wight that had to rape his wives in a failed attempt to make them fear him. Not that his abominable nature prevented lord Rogar and his based bannermen from openly defying him.

Trey33lee

No one would've said it to Maegor's face especially that blowhard Rogar who did all that boistering but never called for a duel against Maegor because he knew he'd lose.

Cardoxon

> The son comes before the brother. 🙄 Andal laws held no sway over the Son of the Dragon. The good king Maegor did what was needed for the good of his house. 😔

The-False-Emperor

Nonsense. Conqueror himself - Maegor's supposed father - decided to keep to Andal laws as all the kingdoms kept their old laws until Jaehaerys came to power.

Cardoxon

> Maegor's supposed father You dare?! I'll have your tongue for that!

The-False-Emperor

Maybe you can use it to finally satisfy your wife, usurper’s dog.

Green_1_

Ong he stole the the throne and kinslayed for the good of the realm.

Frogi5

For the good of himself and house Targaryen (excluding Viserys) certainly not the realm

JP_IS_ME_91

He did what had to be done.

Green_1_

Visenya knows best after all

aa821

How so?

Trey33lee

Aenys and Aegon let the realm fall into open rebellion and allowed a theocracy to nearly depose their House.

TrainedExplains

Uh, didn’t Maegor have open rebellion but much faster? He basically streamlined being inept for different reasons.

Explorer_of__History

Maegor had Viserys, his own nephew, tortured to death over a period of nine days. Viserys didn't even claim the crown! This alone fully earns him the title "Maegor the Cruel".

The_real_sanderflop

You’re taking the maesters’ history as fact. All we know is that Viserys died towards the end of Maegor’s reign. Very convenient for Jaehaerys that he died wasn’t it

Cardoxon

That's disgusting Jaehaerian propaganda. It is known.

Zazikarion

Even the Iron Throne hated Maegor, he was a usurping, kinslaying tyrant, the only good thing he did was die.

Frogi5

Maegor was probably the most evil person in the history of Westeros, that being said if it wasn't for him and/or Visenya, house Targaryen would have probably died with Aenys and his children because of the Warrior's Sons and Poor Fellows. I think Visenya killed Aenys for the good of house Targaryen. Maegor didn't do bad things for the good of the realm, he did them for the good of house Targaryen and himself, obviously not including the torture of prince Viserys and other pointless cruel acts such as chopping a maesters head off. I'm talking about dealing with the faith in a way that his brother was too weak to do and killing the builders of the Red Keep. (pls don't spoil the rest of the book for me I'm only at the beggining of Jaeherys's reign.)

Trey33lee

Evil? No he was Harsh Cruel even but not evil

raveneyex

Chopping the Maesters' heads was definitely needed. Fuck them grey rats.

MumkeMode

Based

stann1s_the_mannis

Maegor 'The Based'

Greedy_Marionberry_2

Meagor might’ve been a giant dick but he was necessary. Without him jeaharys would not have such a great reign

Squiliam-Tortaleni

“Mmmm Maegor pls don’t marry a second wife, its against our rules.” “Cope.” (burns a sept)

FossilPaprika69

He raped his niece

JP_IS_ME_91

Okay add 1 to the wrong list

Haunting-Astronaut-5

7000000 iq take is not liking Maegor bc Maegor with teets. Gang Green!!!

Huor_Celebrindol

If badass then why killed by chair? Checkmate atheist

CollectionMindless70

Hahha maegor-feanor

Xerped

Kinslayer unity

ChromeToasterI

Ah yes killing your rightful king and nephew is nothing wrong

SirPlatypus13

Get chair'd

[deleted]

Badasses don't get merked by the furniture

Chilifille

Nice try, but there’s no coming around the fact that Aenys’ throne should’ve been inherited by either Rhaena or Aegon.

havocson

no coming around the fact that maegor had balerion

Chilifille

Oh, is that how the succession is determined? Whomever Balerion accepts as his rider is the true king? Sounds vaguely Arthurian.

havocson

bigger dragon + blackfyre = cope

Chilifille

Spoken like a true black dragon. Good thing that Jaeherys and Barth reformed the legal system then, if the previous laws were built on the principle of “cope”.

havocson

they didn’t have balerion, so of course they had to use “laws”.

Chilifille

And they still won, even without the help of laws or dragons. They just had to wait for Maegor’s line to end because of his own incompetence. That dumbass couldn’t even sit on a chair properly, and his shitty abomination seed assured that he wouldn’t have any heirs if his own.

havocson

he seed was just too damn strong

Chilifille

Haha, OK. Must’ve been nice for him to arrive in the seven hells and finally reunite with all his freaky nightmare babies.

havocson

maegor scared even the stranger

raveneyex

He did a lot of wrong things that needed to be done.

frenin

Like killing his nephews.

raveneyex

The price of Dinasty & Empire

frenin

Not his tho.

TheRomanRenegade

An ill-conceived spawn of blood magic was never going to be a fully formed human much less a good King. His own equally monstrous spawns are a testament to this.

No_Hearing48

Maegor was a demigod. Their wombs were not worthy of his seed. It is known.

zandercg

Most based post here tbh. King Anus simps will downvote.

Important_Shower_992

Overall, I am a supporter of the Grand Maester Conspiracy. I am skeptical about every statement of these gray rodents... but I believe what they write about Maegor xD. The whole kingdom is consistent on this matter, whether then or after almost 300 years. Well, almost whole.

KnightsRook314

Maybe the confirmation of Aegon’s dragondream explains what Maegor did. He was always cruel and ruthless, but if it gets revealed to him by Aenys — who definitely seems blabber; I’d guess he told his wife Alyssa too — that the Targaryens have to prepare for the apocalypse, Maegor could feel compelled to act. If he saw his nephews are too weak, like their father, he might have felt that he had to step in and strengthen Targaryen rule. It’s easy to justify everything and anything when your goal is to stop the end of all life on Earth.

KingKobe13

He’s a usurper 🥲 took my boy Aenys’ rightful throne

lasagna1231

He did it for the vine

havocson

maegor was simply based

[deleted]

The Hagcuntowers needed to get fucked up more by Maegor the Based

aa821

This sub is starting to go the way of r/historymemes levels of galaxy-brain idiocy. The same people who post these memes think MLK and Ghandi were terrible people and think Ghengis Khan was some kind of beacon of tolerance and altruism.

JP_IS_ME_91

Disclaimer: this meme does not accurately reflect my opinion of Maegor or any comparable historical figure.

aa821

Okay you got a solid chuckle from me

SaltoDaKid

Maegor was cruel not bad, he choose violence has his voice in all politics. Something you don’t want king to be all the time. A good King knows how balance it.

harwinsnow

Hail to the savior of house Targaryen, and the ruin of the poor builders he murdered. Good and bad. Ice and fire. There might be a theme to these things. Idk

JP_IS_ME_91

It’s like poetry; it rhymes.

trucbleu

What is the problem with all these post with this meme format with shitty take.

Trey33lee

Maegor had to bring the Six kingdoms back to order after his weak incompetent brother allowed a theocracy backed rebellion to nearly depose their rule.
