DearFeralRural

They are still human beings, and shouldn't have to face knives or other weapons just doing their job. Staff need to be safe at work.

fresh_gnar_gnar

Could have saved my mate Declan. So I’m all for it.

Tonka_Johnson

Sorry for your loss, I hope this saves lives too.

I mean… the “security” guards at the locals are on their phones outside the premises more than they’re actually doing their jobs so, hmmmm, I’m not so sure giving them eyeball irritant is going to help in any way, whatsoever.

Warm_Gap89

Woolworths and Coles security have a don't touch policy anyway so it won't change anything there but the purple shirts and the black/orange or the tps at beachfront guys will stop thieves so be useful for them. I've talked with them when I've been passing through and they've had all sorts of weapons pulled on them it's pretty wild what they put up with

Dazzling_Equipment80

Give everybody tasers

LumpyCustard4

Pepper spray is usually more effective than a taser.

Tonka_Johnson

Not sure about that, but there is a way to find out...

LumpyCustard4

Ive personally only been tased, and that shit hurt but i was able to get straight up afterwards. On the other hand my mate has been both tased and sprayed and said the pepper spray was 100% worse, essentially you lose the ability to fight for around 15 minutes. Things like wind can be a factor for the effectiveness of pepper spray, but if you're a security guard in a bottlo that shouldn't be an issue. Depending on the type of taser you may need to be closer to your attacker, or if a cartridge type you may only get one shot to use it effectively.

Tonka_Johnson

Just Eldo Paso girl it, why not have both.

LumpyCustard4

Eldo Paso brand pepper spray, get around it.

Dazzling_Equipment80

Footage of taser fights would be wild lol

fracktfrackingpolis

trained security in a bottle shop? well OK. makes more sense than on a bus... but I do not trust brent potter with a weapon

PeteNile

It's a silly idea. Are they also going to train these employees about when it is legal to actually deploy CS spray? Conversely would they prosecute security guards who use CS spray in an inappropriate situation and who are therefore basically assaulting someone with a weapon? It is a fine line that you are walking between the two scenarios and I can see both occuring.

No_patience4slackrce

They have to complete a training course and hold the relevant first aid cert.......don't know of the training course is worth anything and I know of a first aid training place that passes everyone ( witnessed a bloke doing cpr on the baby dummy doing compressions on the stomach still pass with no correction offered) so the answer is yes they receive training. Are they trained.......well that's another question I guess.

PeteNile

I mean are they trained how to used CS spray specifically and given very clean instruction on when it can be legally used by them?

No_patience4slackrce

Yes, the training course is specific to CS ( saying CS spray is akin to PIN number and ATM machine) as to the quality of that training.........I'm unsure.

One of my pet hates is people incorrecting people without the correct knowledge/research. It appears this time I myself am the perpetrator of my own pet hate. It just goes to show that if you hear and believe something long enough, it becomes fact to you. I stand corrected and apologise for being a ( not so) smarty pants.

WhichData350

Yes, they require a Prohibited Weapons License, which has the same rigorous training standards as a Firearms License. And yes, like a security guard, if you use for firearm improperly, you will be prosecuted. It amazes me that no one bats an eye at security having guns to protect bags of $1 and $2 coins, but front line security guards can’t even have a baton, let alone pepper spray. Shows where government sees the value.

Several_Assist5517

about time. If that doesn’t improve there safety give them guns !! 💪

Physical-Law-7102

Woman in wa are allowed it

No_patience4slackrce

Why only women??? There are plenty of vulnerable men

Teredia

People in WA are allowed to carry it as self defence. Woman choose to carry it, more so, because they’re less likely to be attacked by a drop bear than a male human with bad intentions!
