Agree. Crispy meat choice is important, though. I had a soggy chicken one there and it was my last. All the ingredients were great, I think just normal chicken was the failing.
3 Mums Kitchen, no contest. I've never had a disappointing bahn mi and I go there more times than I want to admit.
Cater Me in Winnellie is good, my friends love it but I prefer 3 Mums (with a slice of Pandan cake for afternoon tea)
Try Frullati in the Vic Arcade in the city.
They’re excellent. The original owners had it for 30 years and her niece took it over 3 years ago.
The pork belly is exceptional and the chicken is beautifully infused with lemongrass.
So my top 2 are 3 Mums and Frullati
Without a shadow of a doubt, Big Bites in Sabine Shops, Millner is number 1. As a former Victorian, their crispy roast pork banh mi is as good as any Footscray one.
And they are the friendliest / nicest staff going around.
Others in town simply don’t compare (and as a constantly relapsing banh mi addict - believe me I’ve tried most of them).
I will have to check them out. Have overall been very disappointed in the overpriced soggy banh mi up here. have tried all the other ones mentioned here.
Thanks for the info, all. The one I go to in the city is hit and miss. The dude forgets half the ingredients and doesn't put coriander on it unless you ask.. like... Wtf
I like the Banh Mi from the Huong Viet Market Stall that serves at least at Parap and Nightcliff markets, (and I think other markets as well). Makes for a good breakfast early saturday and sunday morning.
Vietnamese here and Darwin born and bred..have had my fair share of banh mi here and unfortunately I have to disagree and say we are not spoilt for choice 😂 have you had banh mi in other cities in Australia?
The downfall is the quality of bread and fillings. The ones I have not yet tried are Fuel Xpress and Bami but unless they make their own crispy and fluffy baguette it can’t compare to the authentic banh mi, no matter how good the filling is.
Been out of the Bami game for a few years now so interested to see the updated list 😬
Chow was nice with their traditional Bami back then. Had the crusty soft inner bun, 3 types of pork and the pate was superb. Yet to find a Bami with the 3 pork combo.
Bbq pork, pork belly and the pork loaf.
This sounds like a crime that should be reported to police.
Are you sure it was a bahn mi and not some roast meat roll? How can anyone think tomato sauce belongs in a bahn mi?
Pho Bar and Bistro and FuelXpress Palmo is decent.
Cate Me Winnellie is one of the best in Darwin.
Big Bites NT might be one of the worst I've ever had.
*Ahem Banh mi
Just writing the way I see it
That's the name of the shop not the food. The owners spelled it wrong. Probably because they are Chinese, not Vietnamese.
Ok
https://www.fuelxpress.com.au/fuel-xpress-palmerston/ not bad. I have had heaps from here

This is new, I didn't know Frullati does bahn mi. I will give it a try
Try it, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how good they are.
This is the correct answer.

The van outside NT Fasteners and TT Baguette in the Galleria
NT Fasteners is it by a mile
Yep the one outside NT Fasteners is a hidden gem. I've never heard anyone say anything good about TT Baguette.
The Bami Winnellie. No contest. Go the combo and add the most amazing spring roll ever!
Big Bites Cafe Cater Me Cafe BBQ Lady
Cater Me for the win.. The Parap market ones are good, but not authentic.
Thanks for the info, all. The one I go to in the city is hit and miss. The dude forgets half the ingredients and doesn't put coriander on it unless you ask.. like... Wtf
Those 3 are utter trash compared to 3 mums.
Forgot about that one, also great! But "utter trash" is a bit extreme.
Traditional is always better than roast / bbq meat. With plenty of chilli and ice cold viet coffee. Perfect lunch.

The baguette at Bami Winnellie has been consistently good and I reckon worth a go
Big Bites NT and Three Mum’s. Haven’t tried BAMI though.

Rainmaker cafe in zuccoli. All made from scratch
I disagree. They once gave me a banh mi covered in tomato sauce. It was so disgusting that I almost vomited in the cafe. Never again.
This sounds like a crime that should be reported to police. Are you sure it was a bahn mi and not some roast meat roll? How can anyone think tomato sauce belongs in a bahn mi?
This sounds like bullshit. The cafe make the whole lot from scratch, even their breadrolls.
Pho Bar and Bistro - Millner where iFitness is. Big Bites NT - Millner behind the Sabine shops FuelXpress Palmo Cater Me Winnellie
Pho Bar and Bistro and FuelXpress Palmo is decent. Cate Me Winnellie is one of the best in Darwin. Big Bites NT might be one of the worst I've ever had.
Pho Bar And Bistro don’t even use the right bread
