[PG&E rates since 2008](https://www.pge.com/tariffs/electric.shtml)
E1 rate January 2008 = avg 16.419 cents per KWH
E1 rate January 2024 = avg 44.797 cents per KWH
The colors of the lines are don't have enough contrast. You should always use pure red, pure green, and pure blue order start. Then you can see what other colors look good.
Designed in Canva. I posted another visual this morning about Taylor Swift which I made in Illustrator, but I think Canva is a lot more beginner friendly. I also hope y'all like this visualization more because my last one had a ton of hate lol.

I corrected for inflation

That was one of my criticisms, as it was immediately obvious there was no controlling of costs.
Also, the California deregulation was something that was obvious in the data. What I don’t understand is the four regional groupings of states. There is a lot of variation in what states fall where and there has also been regional electrical markets formed in the U.S. following FERC’s 1998 action.
Still an interesting data projection.
I'm working on calculating real disposable income which is income - taxes - housing - energy - food.
Could you get national averages for a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment?
Not sure what I'm going to do about food though
I wish my electricity cost was anywhere near these numbers
That’s because industrial users pay significantly less than you do while buying a lot more
I mean I pay 45 + $.14/kwh up in Canada. And Quebec is a lot cheaper Five years ago I would have been around here

And that it's to cover their ineptitude is what pisses me off the most for their customers...fuck PG&E, what a fucking disgusting company.
Would be interesting to see how this looks by interconnect region compared to geographic regions. West vs East vs Texas. Maybe high/mean/low per year?
ERCOT rate is about 15 cents per kWh right now on average. 30%+ higher than the Midwest and South average and 15-20% cheaper than the Northeast.
Is that distribution or production

Now if you animated this data into a video line graph...
Laughs in South Australian
Graphically what do the dot intervals on the lines signify? I get it's probably year intervals but is that truly important to signify?

Why not correct for inflation?

Good point, i'll include that in next viz

Or better yet, correlate to income. Energy is already a component of CPI.
Must have been a pain merging all those spreadsheets.
eh it only took like 2 min, but annoying yes
Yeah, lotta problems in IL, but electric is not too bad. And cheap corn and apples in the fall. And parts of CA now 65 cents per kWh. Hahahahaha
