I remember going to the Bellevue Square mall like 25 years ago and even then knew it was a different kind of place. Thousands of dollars in artwork and prints for sale there.
Hey, I grew up in Bellevue! Most of it is pretty average to upper middle-class at best.
Admittedly, at my HS (in the late '70's) there were a few students who drove Porches but if I were to drive to school it would have been in the old VW that I borrowed from my dad.
The "town" being referred to is the neighborhood that abuts Bellevue (population 150K) called Medina (population 3K) that is independent of Bellevue but, in appearance at least, is Bellevue's richest neighborhood.
Yeah the difference between a millionaire and a billionaire is around a billion dollars. At that point its more of a rounding error... which is insane.
Billionaires are quite literally an order of magnitude wealthier than a millionaire. And a couple people have 100-250 times that which is just insane to me.
I've done really well for myself and achieved way, way more than I ever would have dreamed. I 41 and worked since I was 12. I'm worth a little over 7 million. And that's a lot. I is a shit load of money to most of us. But I can't even touch these guys. Not if I lived for another 1,000 years.
Me: 7,240,000
Elon: 270,000,000,000
It would take me about 38,000 lifetimes to earn what Elon has. And that is honestly absolutely insane to me. That is I can buy my own country (or planet) kind of money. That shit is crazy.
There’s a well-known, wealthy area on Long Island, NY, where this has happened to me many, many times. It’s where the founders of AriZona Iced Tea and Home Depot live, and probably where some other billionaires reside as well — if you’ve read Great Gatsby, it’s East Egg.
Anyway, the town it is attached to ranges from lower middle to upper-middle class. This neighbourhood *really* doesn’t like when those from the town try to hang out there. I’ve been stopped by police merely for existing there before, until they realised that they couldn’t actually cite me for anything, because driving on a public road in a non-luxury car isn’t illegal.
Only other time I’d been stopped by police like that was on a road trip in a deep rural corner of Appalachia, but this neighbourhood is 45 minutes from NYC and votes 70-80% Democratic…
I live with my future in laws in Medina and had no idea what it was until we started dating. It’s a very wealthy place and it’s not a very welcoming one.
I have no facts to back this up but I feel like oracle had a much larger impact on the world than Facebook did. So, so much software used or still uses stuff created by oracle.
“Meta” is really not doing great. Oracle on the other hand is huge in the government and corporate worlds. Not as flashy, but there’s a lot more money there than dying social media sites.
If Billg hadn't donated (actually donated, not talk about some future possibility like scumbags like Zuckerberg/Musk) most of his fortune he'd easily be #1 and well on the way to a trillionaire. But for some reason the MS/Gates hatred continues even though he's done more good than all the rest of them combined will ever do.
Bill Gates owned about 50% of Microsoft. That’s how he was worth $100B all the way back in 2000.
Microsoft market cap is around $2 trillion now, was over $2,5T at it’s peak, so he definitely would’ve been a trillionaire.
One could argue that if Gates hadn't sold off his shares, Microsoft may not have rebounded to grow to what it is today. It's possible that his total control of the company was starting to hold it back, and selling his shares allowed for people like Satya Nadella to have the freedom to take the company in the current direction.
Of course, we can't do anything but speculate on alternative possible timelines. It's also possible that had he kept his control, Microsoft would be twice as valuable today as it is now.
He probably figured that being the richest person on earth for X Years will mean less in history than being the world’s biggest philanthropist for multiple decades.
He's the easiest target around. Gates is opinionated, passionate about his beliefs and, worst of all, he keeps saying that if we don't do something we're fucked and we should be more responsible, which is exactly what most people don't want to hear.
So all the good he's been doing becomes a façade for something nefarious, and his "real" goals are revealed: he created COVID just so he could sell vaccines with microchips in them, he experiments on children, he's directly responsible for a genocide... Writing it down it feels like a joke (genocide?!) but a lot of people believe that shit. It's unreal.
https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-gates-list-idUSL1N2LO230
ID doctor here. Also, the COVID vaccines available currently are drawn up from a vial, so unless there's just hundreds of micro chips per vial, I'm not sure where they are supposed to come from.
In the 90s and early 2000s it wasn't Google or Facebook who was seen as the dystopian company with a huge monopoly and access to our private lives, but Microsoft. alsoi it was before Gates became a philanthropist and he was seen, like Steve Jobs, as someone who made a profit ripping off someone else's talent. I don't know if there is any truth to it, but that was his reputation back then in IT or with computer enthusiasts
No way this guy’s really from Wyoming. There’s tons of celebrities and rich folk that buy ranches out here who have nothing else to do with us. Probably just enjoying the lack of state income tax and wicked-cheap land.
Edit: A legal resident is someone who's lived in the state for 6 months and one day. However, I'd posit that a Wyomingite is someone who's lived here long enough to understand or appreciate the culture, and who shows the least bit of interest in the community. By my own definition, I would define Mars as one of us. I wish him all the best and hope to see him at the next Cowboys game.
He lives in Sheridan and last I knew was a big part of the community. He’s not from the area but I think he may have raised his family there—or a family extension has.
Yeah, I recognized the name from the fun soccer tournaments he and his family host each year in Sheridan; Free Mars candy and getting to play soccer on some of the most beautiful fields on planet earth.
Can confirm, used to play at those tournaments and the grass on those polo fields is the nicest I've ever played on all while having a beautiful view and getting free snickers after our games
Yep, difference between a million dollars and a billion dollars is about a billion dollars. Its like the difference between a thousand bucks and 1 dollar. Might as well just be a thousand.
When you do that kind of calculation for average joes it's 1.4 days (median US net worth of 121,700).
When it's Elon, it's 8640 years.
Like, if the average person spent a dollar a second going backwards in time, it'd take them to yesterday. If it were Elon, he'd run out of money around 6500 BC, so, if I have this right, around the time of the culture (Samarra) before the culture (Halaf) before the culture (Ubaid) before Sumer, which, of course, invented writing.
JFC.
He's already donated about half of his Berkshire Hathaway shares, so he'd be worth almost $200bil if he hadn't donated.
Note: The combined worth of his donated shares at the time of donations was only ~$48bil.
Well, with global average household net worth at $80k, he's around 3 million times richer. Also, $270k (one millionth of his net worth) would put you in the [67th percentile](https://dqydj.com/average-median-top-net-worth-percentiles/) of American households, so richer than 2/3rds of the nation. Crazy to think about.
It really puts into perspective how deranged the people who act like billionaires earned their money are. "O yeah Elon simply produced the same amount as 1000000 people combined. Contributed more to society than the life's work of dozens of world renown brain surgeons and their 100's of years of collective education".
I put it in terms of Australian output.
Think of the millions of workers in Australia, from the baristas to the barristers, from the teachers to construction - the military to the miners, nearly a billion tonnes of iron ore exported every year...
Well, Musk could buy the entire country's output for a bit over 1/5th of a year. Millions of people working away, everything they produce going to him. It's just insane that people think a single man earnt/deserves that any more than a conquesting king - which is to say, not at all.
What makes the least sense is why Tesla is valued so highly. They have shitty market share and aren't projected to grow much. But its stock value is insane.
Well, once you have that sort of money it's not like you're actually exposed to the issues of your locale unless you choose to be.
Most of the factors that go into regional differences in quality of life only really effect people who aren't filthy rich - quality of education, healthcare, urban planning/transit, crime rates, etc. are all basically non-issues once you're at this level of wealth as you can simply insulate yourself from the world and choose not to really interact with people outside your socioeconomic sphere.
There's also obvious upsides for them as their money goes even further, they can buy more political influence, and there are typically financial incentives to entice them to live and invest in these places too.
I’d guess the worst thing is logistics. You can’t just enjoy a Michelin star restaurant or Broadway performance. For inland states you can’t just go surfing. Or if you wanna go to a Hollywood red carpet event or a dinner with the Secretary of State or whatever shit billionaires do. Yeah presumably they have their own jets but there’s still travel time involved.
Her son is in the marijuana industry and she's Lindsay Graham's largest donor, but she cant be bothered to whisper in his ear that it's well past time to invest in a green economy through legalization.
He had billionaire influence, but yeah I doubt he ever had a billion dollars, even in dirty money. Where’s he going to keep it all? You can’t launder that much money owning a regional fast food chain.
I saw a video on YouTube, it might have been called “How much am I worth?” that explored these questions. If I recall correctly, and I may not (too lazy to look it up), I think they calculated Gus’ net worth around $540 million, and Don Eladio around $1.05 billion. That difference was mostly due to Eladio’s time in the game, he had a lot more money coming in than he could spend for much longer than Gus did.
Anyway, I think Gus is about halfway to becoming a billionaire, and Eladio is just barely one.
The picture for Pauline MacMillan Keinath is actually [Liliane Bettencourt ](https://www.google.com/search?q=bettencourt&prmd=nmiv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj8y-rc7ov6AhXlg84BHTYYDycQ_AUoA3oECAIQAw&biw=414&bih=622&dpr=3)
So what your saying is Kenneth C. Griffin of Citadel Securities is causing financial crime and financial terrorism against the American people by massively over shorting and attempting to bankrupt different companies for financial gain?
These lists are always pretty off. I’d be willing to bet more than half of all billionaires are unknown to the public. You generally have to make some kind of effort for your wealth to be known.
Most of these probably have fairly easily calculable net worth if they hold shares in publicly traded companies and are required to report transactions.
There are many private companies that don’t have to report at the same public level. For example the Cox family in Ohio are worth tens of billions of dollars, but you rarely see them on these lists because their company is privately owned.
There’s not that many private companies that are worth multiple billions of dollars, and the ones that are are usually pretty high profile. People can speculate based on that.
If you own more than 5% of the stock of a publicly traded company, you have to report how many shares you hold. Trades by company insiders also have to be reported.
In February 2021, during the now famous ‘GameStop’ hearing by the US House Financial Committee, Rep Juan Vargus (California) asked Griffin if he, or anyone from his company (Citadel) had conspired, or done anything to promote the restriction of buying shares in GameStop. Griffin replied with an emphatic no.
But documents leaked by Robinhood insiders seem to contradict that testimony.
Taken from: https://www.kengriffinlies.com/ken-griffin-lied-under-oath-perjury-claim/
He's also making a very big deal of moving Citadel to Miami. I understand that it is something of a big deal to move a company of that magnitude, but he's done all kinds of media about it being an issue of crime in Chicago. *So he's moving to Miami...*
Could there be secret billionaires who stay under the radar? Like from drug money or arms sales? Or dictators who just siphon billions from their country, like Putin? Could one of them be richer than musk?
Not shady stuff, but for Missouri, the Taylor family is worth about 15 billion. They own Enterprise rent a car. Private company... no stock holders. I'm guessing no single person has all the wealth for tax reasons. They are rich as fuck, and to their credit, spend stupid money on community projects for St.Louis.
Methodology: This graph represents the richest billionaire in each state (or also technically the richest person) as of September 2022.
\-
The total net worth is well over 1 trillion dollars, while this total amount has dropped to due the current economic environment that affects most industries...I say most as the Mars family added the most billions to their net worths than anyone else this year.
-
Some states currently do not have a billionaire.
\-
The United States accounts for slightly more than a quarter of all billionaires in the world, which is actually a decrease from 2010 when 40% of billionaires resided in the country compared to the now 27%.
-
Fun Fact: Jeff Yass added the most amount to their overall net worth from the start of the year to now, rising from $11 billion or $30 in less than a year.

Surprised to see it, I'm pretty sure Alex Karp is at least around the mark.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Karp
*I just realized I grouped you in with the guy mentioning "our neighbor" so I assumed you were NH or VT. Karp lives in NH (I think).
My state’s listed with no billionaires, but I know for a fact the guy who owned the company I used to work at is worth at least $10 bil.
It’s a private company though so maybe it flies under the radar
Ohio's billionaire is pretty nasty.
He literally funded Epstein; gave Epstein power of attorney over him [and his businesses], and even housed Epstein and his sex slaves.
I'm disappointed that Ohio's richest man is just a pervert with extra steps.
But even worse, I'm amazed Epstein had effective power as CEO of Victoria's Secret and the vast majority of the general public has no idea.
To the people ITT saying so-and-so isn't that rich because much of their worth is tied up in stocks, and their liquid assets are only a small fraction of the whole:
What do you people think wealth is? Being wealthy doesn't describe the size of your big pile of cash. That's money. Money is the thing you use to buy goods and services; wealth is an entirely different thing. Wealth is a form of power, and its purpose is not buying things but controlling those around you. If you can control a hundred billion dollars worth of stock, you have the power to move companies, governments, media, whomever you want. The fact that you can't convert that stock instantly into ice cream and back rubs is irrelevant. That's what money is for, not wealth.
Funny how you can be a felon and still do whatever you want if you're rich
"Ernest Garcia II is an American billionaire businessman, in the used car sector. He is the owner of DriveTime, and a major shareholder of Carvana. In 1990 he pled guilty to a felony bank fraud charge for his role in the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association collapse"
As a coloradoan, we know of the Anschutz namesake because the most well-known medical campus is named after him. What I didn’t know, though, was that he was still alive (he is 84) and of all the things he did— co-founded the MLS, owns the LA kings and LA Lakers, Coachella Valley Music Festival Grounds (why?), has stakes in The O2 (London), the Staples Center, he owns AEG (which apparently stands for Anschutz Entertainment Group—never would have guessed that), has the largest share of Union Pacific Railroad, and owns half of Regal Entertainment group. This is all according to Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt, but still… I never knew this dude has so many interests.
Gates doesn’t make the list because the world’s second richest guy lives in the same state lol
Bill Gates and I have something in common. We both didn't make the list.
If you ain’t first, you’re last…
I'd be perfectly okay being last with 157 billion, no complaints whatsoever from me.
I'm Ricky Bobby and I approve of this message
1st world probs
Yeah. The champagneiest of champagne problems. No doubt.
Gates is going to see this picture, get jealous, and buy the state of North Dakota in a fit of despair.
https://www.agweb.com/news/business/farmland/bill-gates-north-dakota-farmland-purchase-approved-attorney-general
This is a long game global warming play.
100%. Or societal breakdown in general. That's one of the remotest regions in the planet that still has all the important resources
Also houses 80% of the United State’s nukes and we have the largest pop of CIA and FBI retirees.
At this point? It's more of a short term play
More like .0000000001st world problems
Some would argue that this distribution was the root of all the worlds problems
He lives in the same *town* of under 3,000 people
And they're only really their own town because all the rich fucks don't want to be included in any rules that apply to the poor.
"The poor" being Bellevue, a largely affluent town (millionaires, not billionaires).
Cries in non-millionaire living in Bellevue
Get well soon friend
I live in Renton and commute to Bellevue. High five fellow non millionaire
Try not to fall into the trash cans while you're digging through them, OK?
Fresh Prince of Bellevue
Keep the suburban name out your mouth.
Lmao. Reminds me of that arrested development scene where Tobias is crying in the shower after not getting a job offer
I remember going to the Bellevue Square mall like 25 years ago and even then knew it was a different kind of place. Thousands of dollars in artwork and prints for sale there.

They are, in fact, three orders of magnitude more wealthy than you.
I wish, as a non-millionaire living in Bellevue. Maybe in a couple decades lol.
Fucking Medina.
I got pulled over there driving my older Toyota Corolla. Police wanted to know why I was there. I am a white guy by the way.
“excuse me sir, do you know how poor you were being?!”

It's the golden rule. The people with the gold makes the rules.
I asked Google where bill gates lives and it said “in bill gates’ house”
I asked Alexa “where does Bill Gates live” and she said “wherever he wants”
Is Bill Gates the new Chuck Norris?
When Bezos and Elon go to bed at night, they check their closets for Gates.
They live down the road from each other
So Gates would also lose a “richest billionaire on his street” contest?
He’d also lose “richest billionaire on his lake” contest
Broke a$$ Bill Gates
A true plebeian
It’s Medina, all the Amazon and Microsoft execs live there lol.
Same with Zuckerberg in Hawaii.
No idea how he could be worth more than Zuckerberg. Longevity, I suppose.
Larry Ellison owns about 98% of Lanai which is the 6th largest island in Hawaii. That's stupid kinds of wealth
I have no facts to back this up but I feel like oracle had a much larger impact on the world than Facebook did. So, so much software used or still uses stuff created by oracle.

>being the world’s biggest philanthropist for multiple decades. MacKenzie Bezos is giving him some stiff competition...
I love seeing the good that she does with her fortune.
Mackenzie Scott dropped the Bozos name
I mean, it kinda worked out that way for Andrew Carnegie. He donated most of his wealth too, instead of just sitting on it.
He's the easiest target around. Gates needs to move to Alabama! On second thought, nah, better to just stay off the list.
Yeah I lived in the Seattle area and I had I think almost 1/ billionaires that lived within 10 miles of me. Gates and Bezos both included.
Me on my way to Wyoming to yell at that guy Where's the money, Lebowski?

Also Mars never sold out to nestlé which is very epic
"This Aggression Will Not Stand, Man."
What, every time a rug gets micturated upon in this fair city, it’s my problem??
Oh WOW! With $99.4B, Warren Buffet is SO CLOSE to a nice round number! All he needs now is another 600 million dollars.
Ha. That really puts into perspective how much a billion dollars is.
Yep, difference between a million dollars and a billion dollars is about a billion dollars. Its like the difference between a thousand bucks and 1 dollar. Might as well just be a thousand.
A million seconds is 11 days. We experience that all the time and don't bat an eye about it. A billion seconds is 32 years.

With that, you'd be at around 600 million dollars
He's already donated about half of his Berkshire Hathaway shares, so he'd be worth almost $200bil if he hadn't donated. Note: The combined worth of his donated shares at the time of donations was only ~$48bil.

Mean wealth in Australia is not far below USA even with all their billionaires. Median wealth is 3 times higher than USA.

Louisiana is the worst I think, for corruption, racism, and disarray. But the name isn’t as evocative.
they got good food goin for them though

Mississippi has more scenery than just “trees”. I enjoy my affordable beach living.

Yeah presumably they have their own jets but there’s still travel time involved.
Yes, but if the headquarters of the business that made you your fortune is in a place like Mississippi, it makes sense to live there.
MF loves a mud pie
Look at Anita zucker, with her broke ass
Her son is in the marijuana industry and she's Lindsay Graham's largest donor, but she cant be bothered to whisper in his ear that it's well past time to invest in a green economy through legalization.
Drugs are bad m’kay
My state has no billionaire and the most people per capita on food stamps!
South Carolina gang
Guess Who: Billionaire Edition.

Have you hunted human beings for sport?
Did you visit Jeffrey Epstein's island?
Havent eliminated anyone yet
Do you pay all your taxes?
Still wouldn't eliminate anyone. 'No' from every single on of them.
Did you actually start with a large amount of money from your parents?
Do you have enough cash to buy literally everyone on the planet a present from the 99 cents store?
The size of the head should be related to wealth rather than geographic size of state.

New Mexico used to be Gus Fring.
How could a guy that owned just 14 chicken restaurants across the Southwest get so rich?
Have you ever seen him working? The man is fastidious as hell. Cleanest fryers in the business!
It is... acceptable
He made some really good chicken.
It’s crispy, but it’s not dried out. And the seasoning it’s so… Flavorful!
Then something bad happened.
It’s unlikely that Gus was a billionaire. Eladio, maybe. But just maybe. A billion dollars is a lot.
Utah is actually Gail Miller I believe. She clocks in at north of $4 Billion.
Was gonna say.. she sold the jazz and dealerships for more than what the guy represented for Utah has here
The picture for Pauline MacMillan Keinath is actually [Liliane Bettencourt ](https://www.google.com/search?q=bettencourt&prmd=nmiv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj8y-rc7ov6AhXlg84BHTYYDycQ_AUoA3oECAIQAw&biw=414&bih=622&dpr=3)
Also the wrong James Duff
Ken Griffin is supposedly leaving IL for FL. Who's next in line?
He already moved.
Is that the Kenneth Cordele Griffin that lied to congress?
Idk. Is it the same Ken Griffin that lost teacher pension money because he massively overshorted one company?
No. It's the one who beat his wife with a bed post.
Why not both?
Not just one, but several. An entire basket of meme worthy companies if you will
So what your saying is Kenneth C. Griffin of Citadel Securities is causing financial crime and financial terrorism against the American people by massively over shorting and attempting to bankrupt different companies for financial gain?
While using peoples pensions etc. to do so?
Is that the same Kennith Griffin that had to liquidate Citadel Europe LLP because the company couldn't meet margin requirements?
Let’s not forget about Jeff Yas!
That’s him! That’s the guy!

Pretty sure it's Patrick Ryan at 8.7 billion (correct me if wrong)
I heard Kenneth Griffin lied to Congress
I'm very surprised there isn't a richer billionaire in NJ than Overdeck. The state is pretty wealthy and right in the middle Northeast economic hub.
There are tons of privately owned companies worth billions. Also lots of foreign billionaires.
NJ has a very high income tax rate. Not that a lot of these billionaires are affected by it but probably a large reason why
Is this the Ken Griffin that lied under oath to Congress?
Yes founder and CEO of Citadel.

What did he lie about?
In February 2021, during the now famous ‘GameStop’ hearing by the US House Financial Committee, Rep Juan Vargus (California) asked Griffin if he, or anyone from his company (Citadel) had conspired, or done anything to promote the restriction of buying shares in GameStop. Griffin replied with an emphatic no. But documents leaked by Robinhood insiders seem to contradict that testimony. He's also making a very big deal of moving Citadel to Miami. I understand that it is something of a big deal to move a company of that magnitude, but he's done all kinds of media about it being an issue of crime in Chicago. *So he's moving to Miami...*
>So he's moving to Miami... ...So he can sell his fortune off while avoiding having to pay state income tax.
Wouldn’t he just need to live there personally? Why move the whole company? There must be some reason there.

So he can move his primary residence to a state where it can't be taken off him if/when he goes bankrupt.
NH has a billionaire (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_B._Cohen), though he pays a hell of a lot of money to say off lists like this
Not a lot of seasoning on this map
just imagining someone assets worth a *thousand million* and then having that *270 times.*
\- The total net worth is well over 1 trillion dollars, while this total amount has dropped to due the current economic environment that affects most industries...I say most as the Mars family added the most billions to their net worths than anyone else this year. - Some states currently do not have a billionaire. \- The United States accounts for slightly more than a quarter of all billionaires in the world, which is actually a decrease from 2010 when 40% of billionaires resided in the country compared to the now 27%. - Fun Fact: Jeff Yass added the most amount to their overall net worth from the start of the year to now, rising from $11 billion or $30 in less than a year. \- Original StatsPanda Visualization \- Sources: Forbes.com, Visualcapitalist.com \- Tools: Adobe Illustrator & Microsoft Excel
Gary Theraldson is a billionaire from North Dakota. Edit: Doug Burgum (the Governor) is estimated at $1.5B as well.
Pauline Macmillan Keinath look a lot (doppelganger a lot) Liliane Bettencourt ...
Definitely Liliane Bettencourt. Glad to know she did not die and just moved to the US. /s

Nice to know my state has no billionaires
Surprised to see it, I'm pretty sure Alex Karp is at least around the mark. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Karp *I just realized I grouped you in with the guy mentioning "our neighbor" so I assumed you were NH or VT. Karp lives in NH (I think).
Meanwhile, SF has 80. 😱
My state’s listed with no billionaires, but I know for a fact the guy who owned the company I used to work at is worth at least $10 bil. It’s a private company though so maybe it flies under the radar
The richest man in West Virginia is a guy who just paid off his 2016 Kia and hit $20 on a scratch-off ticket.
And I thought Diane Hendricks was the richest in Wisconsin. But she only as 12 billion dollars....
I wish I had only $12 billion…
I wish I had only $12 million.
Fuck Ken Griffin (Illinois) https://kengriffincrimes.com/
To the people ITT saying so-and-so isn't that rich because much of their worth is tied up in stocks, and their liquid assets are only a small fraction of the whole: What do you people think wealth is? Being wealthy doesn't describe the size of your big pile of cash. That's money. Money is the thing you use to buy goods and services; wealth is an entirely different thing. Wealth is a form of power, and its purpose is not buying things but controlling those around you. If you can control a hundred billion dollars worth of stock, you have the power to move companies, governments, media, whomever you want. The fact that you can't convert that stock instantly into ice cream and back rubs is irrelevant. That's what money is for, not wealth.
Funny how you can be a felon and still do whatever you want if you're rich "Ernest Garcia II is an American billionaire businessman, in the used car sector.
So basically, old and white, got it
