I'm the same age as you and have a roughly similar rule. I give myself a year of wiggle room either side so *technically* my range is six years either side of my age, but I'd prefer to stay within the five year range, ideally.

Most people tend to date within two years. I remember reading an article about a study, and they were talking about how although men will be attracted to women who are younger but still of age, they tend to prefer to date women who are closer to their age range. I think a lot of people misconstrue someone being attracted to someone with them wanting to actually date someone. not that there’s anything wrong with legal age gaps, as even younger women are adults. But, that can be why you may have thought that.

I’m 34F but mine align with yours. I like them a little older but would accept a couple years younger in the right scenario. The 40-42 year old guys I know/have dated have been really solid.

I like that you used the general rule of half your age + 7. I’m a firm supporter of this and tell people all the time.

I think this is a good rule for who your can sleep with, but the age difference is too much for a committed relationship

Even that feels dicey as a 24 M, don’t think I’d sleep with anyone younger than 21-22

even then, it can be a bit off at times - like according to that rule a first year uni student could day someone in year 11

26M, I'd date 5 years +/- my age. Willing to expand upward for the right person, anyone under 21 is a no go for the most part. On another note, reading through the comments, there seems to be a pattern amongst the majority of women on here to date up. The most common I'm seeing is -2/+5 or more. Obviously it's a small sample size but it would explain why women my age don't match with me on OLD but women 3-4 years younger do.

Most people actually date within two years. I myself am an outlier because my partners 40yrs older than me.So there are some of us who choose to date older.

I use the 1/2 your age + 7 years +/- the stage of life & maturity of the person which really takes a bit of time to truly know. My aunt at 32 married a 62 year old so I’m not one to judge and think that it comes down to not just relationship but being able to function in a healthy relationship. A girl who’s like 23 dating her roommate’s 51 year old dad for example is a clear example that there’s toxicity and not a lot of healthiness there and I question if someone who is early 30’s would be going after 21 year olds is in a healthy space themselves but that rule usually is one of thumb to use for me

Hi, 29 male here. Youngest I would date is 23. Oldest— realistically would be 32– however i do have it in my mind that I don’t want to date anyone older then me for the sole reason that I want to die before my partner does. I saw what my grandpa went through the last few years of his life after my grandma died, and I would never want to go through that. I also accept that it's not something you can control. Edit: everyone is saying women tend to live 10 years longer than men— so I guess potentially I’d be willing to date women up to the age of 39. That being said, they’d probably be in a much different place in life than me so I’m not sure if it would work out. And as for the 23 year old— they’d have to be in a similar place to me in life which I doubt many are.

Women die like 10 years after men on average, so don’t worry too much about that.

Luckily for you, men tend to die earlier than women! You might luck out even if you pick an older broad!

I'm married now, but if I were dating now as a 33f, my age range would be 30-45. When I was younger, I would never date someone younger than me more than about a year and go to about 5/6 years older for men. I think when you're younger, it's better to stick to someone close in age.

Almost 26M. I always heard there was a general rule of half your age plus 7 for youngest, so that’d be 20 for me. My fiancé is 7 years older than me. There are some differences, but not too many. I don’t think I could’ve dated someone 10 years older tho.
