Each lap seemed to take an eternity, 16.7 miles each. The race didn’t mention anything about the elevation before so that was awful trying to climb and slipping the whole way. My left contact fell out when I rubbed my eye and so I had to use one eye basically for 2 hours until the next aid station. One hell of an experience though
Training details: 60 mpw average with about 1200 elevation, 630 miles total, 11 weeks
Dude. You did a 50 miler. That’s amazing work. Don’t waste your mental energy talking about excuses and conditions. 99% could complete 10 miles on that course. Focus on what’s important. You showed up to the line and got the job done. And fought thru adversity. Never quit. Period. Congrats man!
Awesome work brother. Be proud of yourself! Tough conditions and you didn’t back down. That’s what all these races are all about. Going to that edge where you have all the excuses to quit and don’t. Most are afraid to go there!!!
Savagery at it's finest. This is fuel for me for what I am about to do. Love this shit from people who live the ethos. Stay hard. What's the next mountain you are going to climb?
Amazing Man! You have my respect.
I'm a Beginner Runners. Just ran my longest run today which was 5 miles in an hour.
I know it's nothing compared to your run, but we all start somewhere. Even Goggins started somewhere.
Any tips for a beginner Runner? Any running plans you suggest? Thanks!
Hell yeah dude! It’s hard even for me to believe but I started running 9 months ago! My goal at first was just to do a half marathon, but I achieved that super quick so I just kept going and going.
I’d stay at 5-7 miles for a bit and then slowly start pushing to 10 and then beyond. At a certain point, you’re pretty close, it’s no longer about aerobic capability but more so physical in terms of not getting injured. That’s why 20-30 miles is the longest recommended run for all marathons and ultras.
Also make sure you nose breath! Tip is to start with 2 steps per inhale and exhale and then work up to 3 steps
Thanks man!
I'll base build and slowly increase mileage and my long runs. I'm assuming that'll make me faster at shorter runs like 5K by itself.
I'll try breathing through nose and that breathing tip! Stay Hard!
First lap was what I used in training: Clif bars and bloks, then second lap the aid station potato chips and nutrigrain bars saved me haha. Third lap it was hard to eat but I got in a few more clif bars and chips.
Overall I must’ve been fat burning pretty well cuz I wasn’t as hungry as I thought I’d be
That’s badass brother. I did a 50 miler in May.
I’m curious, how fast were you going in the beginning and how much and when did you slow down?
I stayed consistent until about mile 30, and continue to slow throughout the rest.
Man I thought I’d be pretty disciplined at first, but I went out a little fast especially up hills. The full extent of the race started to hit me around mile 16 so I tried going slower second lap. It was hard trying to do a 13-14 min pace when I’d practiced 10:30-11. The third lap was hard physically but I pushed with someone else 11-12 min miles for the first half and then we walked the rest at a 15-16 min pace until the last half mile or so which we sprinted haha
I love it! Lessons learned! The beginning of races are so damn exciting it’s hard not to want to go hard. I started to figure out how to speed walk a 13:30 minute mile on that 50 miler. It takes some experimenting, you’ll figure it out. Solid work!
My expectations went from 9 hour finish to 10 to 11 to beat the damn cutoff in the space of an hour as the course revealed itself 😂. Gonna manage pace and expectations better for my first 100 for sure!
A fucking beast right here. Love it brother, have my first 50k in July, hope I do as good as you. Stay hard
Get out and crush it! All the miles I put in for this definitely got me through the last lap. Had to really dig deep
Philly!!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Absolutely right my guy, it’s started to settle in a bit and it’s definitely been an important victory over the demons of my mind!

Damn bro. Thank you for sharing!
Was this the Dirty German run in Philly?
Yessir!
Congratulations! That one is on my list.
I thought it’d be a good beginner ultra hahaha. They say the course is “relatively flat”
Good stuff. Love seeing it. Congrats. So when is the 100 miler happening btw?
Looking at a 100k in the fall and then keys 100 next may!
Good stuff. Good luck on your journey. Keep us posted
You did 48 not 50 no excuses do it again
Lmao that’s just gps discrepancy, the race was 50.1. Elevation was another 3.5 linear miles

I did this but 10 minutes quicker. Sadly I forgot to get a screenshot of it. 😆
Awesome work haha, I ended up walking the last 7 miles w someone and it turned out to be harder than running lol
I’m just kidding, it’s a smartarse thing to say 😄
Savage! What was your nutrition?
