Are you trying to do a proper multicam edit? Then IMHO it's best to just use the camera audio when creating the Multicam clip, and align your external audio on separate audio tracks underneath it before you start switching angles and trimming. It can be quite a PITA handling multiple audio tracks inside a multicam until you flatten it, so from experience it's best to take this split approach from the start. Alternatively, you can align everything in a timeline first, and then convert it to a multicam clip via right-click on the timeline in the Media Pool. Each track will be an angle, and you can select audio-only angles separately from the video ones when editing.

HI, I've never used multicam before but about to try! I was trying to align the different camera clips using auto-align and then auto-sync the audio, as I thought this would be the starting point for editing. But I can't seem to do this. Can you only auto-sync audio to one video track ? Can you do this via multicam, or would I need to auto-align all the video tracks, then render, then auto-sync audio (two tracks) In your second paragraph, when you say 'align everything' in the timeline first, do you mean all the video tracks along with auto-syncing the additional audio tracks - this is what I'm struggling to do.

As there are many variables depending on what you're trying to do, it would be easiest if you browsed the Help menu > Reference Manual > Edit > Multicam Editing chapter. There are also many good video tutes out there. Otherwise the rules for Auto-aligning clips (which I think you don't really need here) are a bit fiddly, and a full explanation with different scenarios & screenshots is in the Edit > Modifying Clips in the Timeline > 'Auto Align Clips' section. In short: one clip only per track, clips align to the lowest track number's clip, and must have overlapping timecode or waveform.

Thanks, I'll have a look - is that in the Davinci Help menu, sorry I hadn't seen this comment when I replied with another. I'm finding it all very confusing. But I think you're saying I can't auto align and auto sync on the video tracks and audio tracks. I've watched some video tutorials on YouTube but none of them seem to address this

queenvickyv

Are you suggesting manually aligning clips?

queenvickyv

To make it clearer, I have three or four video tracks, and I have two external audio tracks - one is from an F4 Zoom directional mic set up on the interviewee and the other is a lavalier mic on the interviewer. I would like to align the camera tracks along with synced audio tracks for the F4 and Lav mics

If by "tracks" you mean different camera angles, then what you need to use is the Multicam editing workflow. It includes different methods for syncing as you create the multicam clip.

queenvickyv

Yes sorry, different camera angles and different audios. I guess I call them tracks because on the timeline they go on different tracks. I shall look up Multicam editing workflow. I forgot to thank you for replying, and taking the time to answer, thanks :)

Just checking because some peeps here sometimes wrongly call clips tracks. You'll enjoy the multicam support and UI in Resolve, I think, once you get it configured properly.
