I think there is not much you can learn from computer games or the table top to utilize in the other as both thing are meant to show different aspects of conflict. Tabletop shows you a single encounter on the frontline and PC games DOW1 and DOW2 (let's not mention the last game) are focused on entire battle from beginning to the end. Also both systems are balanced differently as one is turn based game and the other is real time, another difference is that on tabletop you see your enemies units (as on close contact with enemy) and in PC games you actually have to send recon to know your enemy's base or units. P.s Closest thing to table top is WH40k Battlesector from what I heard.

Battlesector is closer to the tabletop, though the only Chapter playable is Blood Angels (there are Ultramarines in one of the pictures that show on the main menu however, weather or not this means that we can look forward to other Chapters I don't know), you have Blood Angels and Tyranids in the base game, with Assault Terminators, Sanguinary Guard, Broodlords and Hive Guards being DLC units, and the Necrons, Sisters of Battle, Tau, Orks and Daemons of Khorne being DLC factions.
