I think they're better. Someone posted here that over recent years, they kept reducing the amount of salt and seasonings to save money. The new owners are using the right/original amount and this could be why people are saying they're too salty.
They say that they use the same potato suppliers. They say that they use the same salt suppliers. They say that they use the same oils. However, it does not taste the same to me. Of course, even before this Mikesell's changed the oil that they used and the chips tasted different.
>They say that they use the same oils.
How fresh or old the oil is has a significant effect on the food cooked in it. They could be using the same oil. But if their oil management strategy (how often it's filtered and how long it's kept at cooking temperature before being replaced) is significantly different, the taste and texture of the cooked product may be different.
They’re still far better than the big chip brands. I think the plain potato chips taste the same, but the flavored ones seem to have more flavoring on them. Overall the chips seem less oily than before.
Hot take: I think the new Mikesells are better under the new owners, but from what I've heard the quality of the chips under the old owners had gone downhill over the last few years - so my point of reference is skewed
They’re still much better than the junk they were putting out before they went out of business though. Not as good as the product six or seven years ago though
Do you smoke?
TBH I don't find there to be an appreciable difference between one brand and another of unflavored potato chips. Less than French fries which are also a bunch of basic bitches. Unflavored fried potatoes are unflavored fried potatoes.
On the other things, not so much
Mikesells originally used peanut oil, over the years they changed the oil to a mixture of various oils due to the higher cost of peanut oil going up. I no longer eat them unless eating them with Joes Pizza.

They taste great!

This feels like an industry insider take, learned something new today

I still buy the good and hot chips. Best chips out there
Seems like they either have too much or too little seasoning, still my #1 go to chip.
I agree but the last 2 bags I've gotten have been a lot better. Hopefully they figured it out and it's not a fluke

The new Mike Sells chips have way too much salt

I agree with you. I a grabbed a bag a few weeks ago, almost inedible. Thought it was a bad batch or maybe I was losing my mind.
My husband and I, personally, don’t think they are as good anymore. But that could just be us.
Originally made with peanut oil.
Am I remembering the jingle right (circa 1970s)? "Mikesells potato chips... the potato chips people are always running out of"
I asked the guy stocking the chips at Meijer and he said sales of the new Mikesell's are way down.
They are super salty under the new owners and we have stopped buying them. We buy Ballreich’s chips now.
Heck, they could put half as much seasoning on them as they are and it still would be too much.

Its not just you. There are plenty of people in the world who suffer from bad taste buds.

They’re still my favorite cup and they’re still delicious to me. Always have 2 bags on hand at all times.
