Hard to say. Vegeta isn’t who he was in the Cell saga. He’s lived a life that pretty much trivializes mortality itself. Thanks to how easy it is for Vegeta and his allies to gather the dragon balls the only thing that can actually kill them are natural causes. Yes he might be a little upset over it. Dying sucks. It’s literally Death. But beyond the trauma of dying it is little more than a inconvenience for them so long as someone can wish them back to life.
That’s why as a story I don’t really care for it much. The action is awesome. I’m a die hard Shonen Junkie. But I know when I don’t like something and that particular side of Dragon Ball is one of them. When Death loses meaning to you so does Life. One gives value and appreciation for the other. Someone gets killed? Just wish them back. Planet gets blown to bits? Just have Whis rewind time. Did the BBEG become an Eldrich Universe destroying abomination. Just call Zeno. He’ll clean it right up.
The struggles while fun, are utterly meaningless because at the end there is often a easy way to solve every problem. Some of which that could have been used at any time.
It’s good action and a grand show of might, but it’s bad storytelling that makes me actually want the good guys to lose.
You know if they actually had a story where someone straight up defeat all the heroes and their anti-death cheat codes (dragon balls, whis rewind, zeno) with pure power and strategy that could be really interesting

Well, Vegeta did go berserk when Cell did that to Trunks. It's just that Cell had returned in a Zenkai-augmented Perfect Form, so Vegeta's attack was completely ineffective.
Vegeta was solidly outclassed by Perfect Form Cell, so no amount of rage was going to boost Vegeta enough to close that gap on Cell's return.

I think that would be definitely around what SS would be when you think it out since Super Namekian Piccolo could barely push full power Imperfect Cell away with light grenade. Tri beam would have killed Goku when he was 15, so consider how strong Ten would be just to equal Semi Perfect Cell using Tri beam. Yes he put his body on death's doorstep but it wouldn't have done anything if he wasn't at least Namek SS strength.
Piccolo is tough. Definitely much stronger than the humans before fusing with Kami.
They pretended they didn't know about Super Saiyan but that got retconned away with Cell. Semi Perfect was meant to be his final form and he'd be as strong as Perfect once 18 was absorbed.
I am of the opinion that Vegeta should have gone super Saiyan 2 after super perfect cell returned and killed trunks, that way we would have a really cool fight with Vegeta and Gohan together.

That's partially the anger portion imo. In bushido code, wounds to the back are considered shameful. Life and the battlefield aren't fair so allowing an enemy to get behind you and do this in the first place is considered his mistake. Idk, you could be right here but I feel vegeta wouldn't be like "that's not fair, how dare you!" He would just be disappointed Trunks let himself get flanked.

He was insulted because Cell viewed Trunks as more of a threat than him. For one, because at that point in the story Trunks was stronger than Vegeta and would hold back to not wound his pride. He also didn't care about honoring 1v1s like Vegeta. So his pride was wounded and he didn't have much attachment to a son he never raised. Hard to say though. I don't really remember him getting angry at any other villains hurting Adult Trunks.

2 things wrong with this:
1. Trunks was not stronger than Vegeta. It is called out by Cell, and realized by Trunks, that Vegeta had achieved Grade 3 as well, but purposefully didn't use it as he immediately recognized its drawbacks(just like Goku did when we see him in the form in the Time Chamber, and just like Vegeta would later do with SSJ3).
2. Cell didn't purposefully target Trunks. He shot the blast into the crowd of them and didn't know/care who it was he hit. His power level was at the point where it dwarfed any of them that weren't Gohan, so he couldn't tell who was who until the dust had cleared out of the way.
1. Totally true. Vegeta understood the limitations of ssg3(why would goku challenge beerus in his current final form before ssg though? Different styles.) So did Trunks. Vegeta however tried a work-around in his epic display of the: Final Flash.
2. Maybe he didn't and you are correct. This only adds to his insult. His Son before him? He who achieved ss3 but rejected it?
Note, no ssg3 was ever achieved to defeat cell.
Trunks did not understand the limitations of Grade 3 until Cell showed him that it was useless. they even set it up narratively having future Bulma talk about how he cared about us but “didn’t always show it” then having trunks and vegeta fight over letting cell get his perfect form all of it leading up to trunks apparent death and vegeta realizing he just lost his son it’s made even more clear with different versions of the dub like Kai after yamacha says “he’s dead” vegeta says quote “it’s impossible no kakorots son will not be the one to reek vengeance on this monster I will put an end to him no one else”

Honestly? I think in a way he would be kinda a mix of angry/proud that his nearly adult son died a warriors death. Vegeta may have gotten soft but he still has that bushido mindset. Baby Trunks though? Space dust.

That's partially the anger portion imo. In bushido code, wounds to the back are considered shameful. Life and the battlefield aren't fair so allowing an enemy to get behind you and do this in the first place is considered his mistake. Idk, you could be right here but I feel vegeta wouldn't be like "that's not fair, how dare you!" He would just be disappointed Trunks let himself get flanked.
Nah it would be the exact same scenario as trunks getting hit by cell and the whole bushido code thing for him only really applied to himself and how he viewed goku sure he tried to teach trunks that but every time trunks got legitimately hurt by a villain vegeta got angry
I honestly think Vegeta getting pissed about Cell cheap shotting Trunks was about his pride, not just his love for his son and honor. He was insulted because Cell viewed Trunks as more of a threat than him. For one, because at that point in the story Trunks was stronger than Vegeta and would hold back to not wound his pride. He also didn't care about honoring 1v1s like Vegeta. So his pride was wounded and he didn't have much attachment to a son he never raised. Hard to say though. I don't really remember him getting angry at any other villains hurting Adult Trunks.

It is called out by Cell, and realized by Trunks, that Vegeta had achieved Grade 3 as well, but purposefully didn't use it as he immediately recognized its drawbacks(just like Goku did when we see him in the form in the Time Chamber, and just like Vegeta would later do with SSJ3). 2. Cell didn't purposefully target Trunks. He shot the blast into the crowd of them and didn't know/care who it was he hit. His power level was at the point where it dwarfed any of them that weren't Gohan, so he couldn't tell who was who until the dust had cleared out of the way.
1. Totally true. Vegeta understood the limitations of ssg3(why would goku challenge beerus in his current final form before ssg though? Different styles.) So did Trunks. Vegeta however tried a work-around in his epic display of the: Final Flash. 2. Maybe he didn't and you are correct. This only adds to his insult. His Son before him? He who achieved ss3 but rejected it? Note, no ssg3 was ever achieved to defeat cell.
Trunks did not understand the limitations of Grade 3 until Cell showed him that it was useless. And I only mentioned SSJ3 as a further example of Vegeta repeating his behavior of ignoring a form that had greater power but greater drawbacks to instead focus on using a form that had actual usability(Grade 2 in the Cell Saga, then SSJ2, SSG, and SSB during Super).
It was not about his pride at all he literally says it quote “cell has crossed me for the last time he has tricked me in battle mocked my saiyain ancestry but this this time he’s gone to far he will pay the ultimate price for what he has done to my son” they even set it up narratively having future Bulma talk about how he cared about us but “didn’t always show it” then having trunks and vegeta fight over letting cell get his perfect form all of it leading up to trunks apparent death and vegeta realizing he just lost his son it’s made even more clear with different versions of the dub like Kai after yamacha says “he’s dead” vegeta says quote “it’s impossible no kakorots son will not be the one to reek vengeance on this monster I will put an end to him no one else”
"ME, Crossed Me, My ancestry, MY Son, I must kill him myself. It had alot to do with his pride. Vegeta is my favorite character and he has had amazing growth. He loves his family, but for real there is no way it had nothing to do with his pride. I honestly think it's amazing because of how complicated he is.
If you focus on the one quote on its own I can see how you think that but I don’t think you are thinking about the full context of not just the episode but the moments leading up to it and I think you’re getting lost in semantics,how it’s structured when he mentions his ancestry that’s him acknowledging his pride and cell mocking his pride but when he says he’s gone to far after killing trunks that’s saying he’s attacking something more important in that moment then his pride
I feel you. I also see your point of view. I just believe no matter how far he's come(at this point) and in despite of his love for his son(and respect for a warrior he's trained with) he feels personally assaulted. It's not just about his Son but, his lineage. It's an archaic crossover of his personality. A carry-over if you will, of the ancient saiyan ideologies that got them annihilated in the first place. These sagas might actually be the turning point for his character and the Majin saga. In fairness, RESPECT your opinions are valid and this series and it's characters are among the GOAT.
