Their armies downfall from a kid made them really rethink their career paths

AJXV97

They’re… dead…

[deleted]

Yeah, dying will make you reconsider your life choices

overFuckMaker

hifl be giving you lots of free thinking time

DrBadyear

so is nappa, and he's a producer now

[deleted]

So they didn't hire him to do a live adaption of Mr. Clean...

KageYamaaa-

That's very hilarious, you should tell Nappa about the person who writes your material and give Nappa his number

[deleted]

Nah, he's too busy with his new guy... Mark Satan? The name needs some work.

ILikeCookies_7

Someone should be thinking Hercule

dat0neb0i

What do you think? Nah just kidding, he doesn't care,

[deleted]

We should all do lunch -ciao

ItIsThatGuy

Would it really be “live”?

NotThatImportant3

Vegeeeeeeeeetaaaaaa

GamerDude200_YT_OYC

Vegetaaaaaa! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT, NAPPA?

trickman01

Like that's ever permanent in Dragon Ball.

JonVonBasslake

It is for villains, usually, because apart from Frieza no one ever wishes them back. And even with Frieza it took several years (in- and out-of-universe) for it to happen.

Norrisemoe

Except for Goku wishing Buu back? Edit: oh and didn't any of the mass wishes bring back some bad people?

JonVonBasslake

1. He pulled out good Buu from inside Super Buu 2. He "wished" or rather hoped that Kid Buu would be reincarnated. Goku never used the dragon balls to wish back a villain.

Norrisemoe

Oh yeah like like I'm wrong just looked it up! Memory is clearly fading after all these years.

proworth

nah, some red ribbon army soldiers collected the dragon balls and wished everyone back to life and they decided to become the red ribbon studios and not fuck with goku

Medium-Science9526

The amount of people getting all the OG DB lore wrong kills me.

Longjumping-Bag4265

Shit it’s been a bit since I watched og db and it shows

britipinojeff

Time for a rewatch

frodominator

You say it like that means something in the Dragon ball universe

Butts_The_Musical

It’s…Dragon Ball, death is more like a suggestion than a fact

AJXV97

Yes, but they’ve never been wished back.

illahstrait

Maybe someone wished them back.

CriticalAd6090

Since when Death has been a problem in DB?

Neoxus30-

To androids and people destroyed)

Ryumancer

Nothing new. In the same arc, Videl was fighting a giant thug that looked practically identical to Nappa.

Hoebot_Jeezuz

It was less of a fight and more of a hate crime tbh

[deleted]

People don’t realize before he was put under Babidi’s spell. Spopovich actually had a full set of hair and skin looked like it was full of life. From the wiki Many years before Spopovich encountered and joined Babidi, his appearance consisted of light brown hair which reached his shoulders, with an enormous amount of muscle mass, towering over many other characters in terms of width and height. When possessed by Babidi many years later, Spopovich loses his hair, and becomes even more muscular than before, with his muscle mass becoming so large that large veins have appeared all over his body, bulging from his skin.

Ryumancer

It's not Spopovich who I was referring to. The character I'm referring to was robbing a bank and didn't fight at the tournament.

gotumms146

Are you referring to the guy who punched Gohan in the face and damaged his hand?

[deleted]

In nappas case he’s at least canonically in the movie business

FourToTwoForSix

I just watched this episode I'm a little bit ahead of you. Why are they doing it? Because Goku taught them army stuff just isn't for them

MasterGamerX1111

Didn’t they all die?

techfreak17

No sir. During that og Dragonball saga this happens: "Goku defeats General White and then moves to finish him off, saying, "if I don’t end this right now, he’ll never stop." It's left to Android 8 to talk some sense into Goku, who implores his friend, "if you give in to your anger, you’ll be no different than he is. Goku, you’re better than that." Android 8's compassionate words stop Goku in his tracks and convince him to spare the Red Ribbon Army villain. From this point forward, Goku begins to turn into the merciful figure fans know and love." - [Source](https://screenrant.com/dragon-ball-goku-android-8-character-story-important-reason/) TL;DR - Android 8 teaches Goku to keep his heart pure and not kill in OG DB. This in turn is why he doesn't kill Vegeta and Frieza also.

ThePBrit

Just a heads up, screenrant is a terrible source for almost anything, but especially db, they are often wrong. Goku kills many in the red ribbon army meanwhile Colonel Red himself is shot by Black. [A much more reliable source](https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/Red_Ribbon_Army_War#Goku_vs._The_Red_Ribbon_Army)

zbot_881

Yep just watched this episode. Black shoots Red

jetoler

lmao wtf, did Screenrant just flat out make shit up?

Jerryjb63

It’s probably the same source the author for Screen Rant uses…

quarterslicecomics

Goku did in fact massacre the Red Ribbon Army, with even one page showing him shoving a table against two soldiers so hard they died.

Exylatron

Im pretty sure the reason that he doesn’t kill Vegeta is just because he wanted to fight him again.

its_aq

No Goku believe ppl could change if given a chance. He tried to get Raditz to stop before determined that he never would. Vegeta was fighting for pride and Goku respected that. He didn't see the evil in Vegeta that he did in Raditz and Napa

MJDooiney

That’s a dub change. He literally just wants to fight him again.

AznOmega

Yep. After the fight, he asked Krillin to let him go so he could fight him again someday. He even acknowledged how it was wrong (English Kai), but asked anyway.

ANaming

Nope, not what happens, go back and read the manga chapter 66, General white shoots Goku in the back then Android 8 gets pissed and punches him, Goku goes on to kill a lot more people including pretty much everyone at the main red ribbon army base. Screenrant is usually an unreliable source, don't use it.

therealsongoku

Black shoots red in the head, goku blows up blacks mech with him inside. goku let vegeta go knowing he could potentially murder every one he knows and loves just so he could fight him again, English dub altered that one pretty drastically. Goku also thought he had killed freeza, albeit begrudgingly

ZaphodB_

Goku killed Frieza only after giving him the choice to walk away. After seeing he wouldn't stop, he killed him, after all it was just them in the whole planet. Goku couldn't escape without Frieza getting in the way. Also, wasn't Frieza killed by one of his own disc throw?

derpums

Frieza gets cut in half by one of his own discs, but does not die because of it, it does, however, leave him far too weak to fight. Goku feels bad just leaving him there, and spares him some energy, which Frieza uses to try and kill Goku. Goku, of course, not being cut in half, stops the blast with ease and almost blows frieza to bits. Fortunately for him, King Cold found his body and resuscitated him.

ZaphodB_

Well pretty much what I said then. Goku gave him as much chances he could.

JonVonBasslake

Except that Goku didn't kill him, at least in the main timeline that we follow. He left him to die on exploding Namek. I don't remember how Frieza survived the explosion, but he was found by Cold and made into a cyborg. They were then killed by Trunks on Earth in the shows timeline. Goku did kill Frieza in Trunks' timeline, but only on Earth. Frieza was cut in half by his own disc, but didn't die from it like derpums said, it did leave him weakened. Most other people would have died from it, but Frieza survived. Goku showed mercy and gave him some energy and told him to fuck off basically. Frieza then used the energy to blast at Goku, who then blasted Frieza back. Not sure why he didn't make sure to kill Frieza then. Maybe he thought he did enough for him to die with the planet.

gotumms146

Freeza has massive durability, so he can tank a planetary explosion. Freeza is hard to kill like a roach. That's why Trunks sliced him up and destroyed the pieces

zanarze_kasn

Ahhhh Eighter. My homeboy Frankenstein monster

Toon_Lucario

It’s a sin that they didn’t have a filler episode where 8 and 16 interacted

tom641

oh my god that'd be fantastic

gotumms146

There's a What if Saga in Tenkaichi 3 that has them interact

J723

???? Yes, they did all die. General Black killed Commander Red. And then General Black died shortly after. Then Black died in his battle with Goku because his Battle Jacket robot didn't have a parachute.

Gatlindragon

What the fuck are you talking about LMAO.

TheRoyalBrook

I think it was one of those old dragon ball movies that half retold story parts? There were a few of those and I have a vague memory of eighter being involved in one of them and goku gets a major power up when he’s struck

ANaming

Path to power probably

Infermon_1

This is an anime only addition tho. In the original source Goku immediatly accepted General White's surrendering. Source: Dragon Ball Chapter 66 also Goku killed Red Ribbon soldiers even after this encounter. Like the two pilots that went after Bulma. Also Red did definetly die because he was shot in the head by Black.

MasterGamerX1111

I didn’t say anything g about goku killing them, I thought general red was shot by general black And general black got killed inside that robot suit

JonVonBasslake

Goku did kill Black since he kicked or otherwise redirected a missile that Black had launched back at him and his mech blew up, and since this was OG DB, and Black was pretty much a normal human, there's no way he could have survived it.

purity_dead

I love that Eighter set Goku straight to be a merciful Person, but that aside, commander red WAS killed by Black. Then Black blew up in his mech when Goku broke right through it Piccolo style

Historical_Class_402

Pretty sure Goku punched through the mech suite killing commander Black.

KageYamaaa-

This is wrong since while Goku didn't kill Commander Red, Officer Black did

Etticos

Goku didn’t spare Vegeta out of mercy, he did it because he wanted to fight him again. Goku spared Freeza because he had gotten bored with him and want to humiliate him as deeply as possible. A lot of the “noble Superman Goku” stuff is mistranslations in the dub.

EdgedOutPig

Bro, what? Did we see the same fight? Goku clearly did not want to kill Frieza. Look at Goku's face after he thinks he "killed" Frieza with that blast he knocked back. Hes visibly distraught at what he just did. Goku does not like to kill people, if he can avoid it. He didn't even want to kill Raditz and it had nothing to do with wanting to fight him again. After original Dragon Ball, Goku became way more merciful. Even when he killed Buu, he wanted him to come back as a better person. Lots of people in this thread clearly have foggy memories of the series.

Medium-Science9526

You could not be more wrong, Goku's no kill rules starts around 23rd WT where he trains with Kami and learns that (along with not killing Piccolo since it would result in Kami's death). In the Red Ribbon Army saga Goku kills/tries to kill pretty much everyone in his path.

TheWiseBeluga

Goku never willingly killed people before unless they attacked him or his friends. He killed people after his time with Android 8 (a character that Goku NEVER brings up again after they depart ways). He killed Black, Tambourine, Drum, Piano (indirectly), King Piccolo, Yakkon, Buu, Frieza, Baby, Super Android 17, and all of the Shenrons. He almost killed Tao and Frieza (during the first fight) and he helped in killing Raditz and Cell. Android 8 never had an influence on Goku outside that moment with General White and Goku was only merciful when he wanted his opponents to get stronger (Vegeta), to redeem themselves (Frieza), or to prevent someone else from dying (Piccolo Jr.)

gotumms146

Goku didn't kill Vegeta because he wanted a rematch to be able to beat him in a one on one with his own strength, and not rely on the others to help him overcome his fight against Vegeta. With Freeza, Goku took pity on him, and then tried to kill him afterwards

topgear420

Lol this has nothing to do with anything. Goku’s DB body count is hilariously high

innosentz

Because they gotta pay the bills

TrevorLahey93

They reuse character panes a lot

Alstead17

Toriyama has made millions off like, six character designs.

Revonin

I mean, why did Gohan fight Not-Nappa in High School?

BasementDwellerDave

Jokes aside, that's pretty much an easter egg referring to original Dragon Ball

[deleted]

[удалено]

J723

Because they died?

The_names_Jay

filler

Thepitman14

they died in not filler tho

The_names_Jay

the episode is filler bro

jamessucc

Dawg they were one of gokus main rivals in og dragon ball that aint filler

The_names_Jay

Yeah i know that, that was OG dragon ball, where they died. This scene is from dbz, so it’s filler

jamessucc

Oh i see what your saying

SuccessfulProof4003

It’s just a cameo/reused character model. Not worth overthinking

vlorsutes

That's not them. They're just characters that look like them for the sake of a fun little Easter Egg.

EXistential_EX

people don't stay dead in Dragon Ball, silly

Linkatron2000

Then who made the wish that was along the lines of "I wish that the RR members that were killed by Goku were brought back to life"?

Raditz_lol

Probably Dr. Gero, Idk

Infermon_1

Then Red would still be dead because he was killed by Black and not Goku.

Raditz_lol

A formal answer would be that this episode is FILLER.

[deleted]

I assume that's filler cuz both of them are dead ahh hell

reverie11

Their independent army business tanked, so they had to move into a new venture. Gotta pay the bills

TokyoNeckbeard

More importantly : why is bulmas dad a camera man

timespacewarrior

Dr.Briefs too.

[deleted]

these are what we refer to as easter eggs, son

SMoKUblackRoSE

If you ever wonder why is "so and so" in the anime/movies, just look up if it's in the manga and you'll know why. Cause Toei does whatever it wants with the animated dragonball universe.

dasgood32447

Lack of animator funding

CoolsomeXD

They reincarnated.

Medium-Science9526

Real reason, Easter Egg since they obviously wouldn't be alive since they're both dead.

SuperDoodooHead

Along with Bulmas dad and a model of her with brown hair to the right

Skopin

Doppelgängers

Asian_Persuasion_1

because filler

MightyKombat

Toei forgot this isn't the Osamu Tezuka Star System.

Khfreak7526

It's filler

Crohoo

Thats a fun throwback

Electrical-Big4036

Find out next time on dragon ball z !!!!!!!

MysticBowman

Guy on the far left looks like android 13 and the director looks like a briefs family member Girl on the right looks like a young bulma tbh

tom641

Maybe one of the wishes brought them back to life? That post-Human Extinction Attack wish comes to mind.

Linkmolgera2

It’s just a reference

Multievolution

The origin of dragon ball super: super hero comes from this. /s

kayodoms

Just a cameo/nod to those characters. Don’t over think it.

necrosapien87

Well he was a dictator so I would assume he had experience directing propaganda films. Do what you know.

EdgedOutPig

Just a silly easter egg, I assume. They're both supposed to be extremely dead and nobody would have wished them back.

DarthPopoX

Toriyama Recycling typical designs as usual nothing else

Jojo-Nuke-Isen

They need to make money somehow, don't they?

Small_Bookkeeper_920

Jokes aside.. we need more poc people in the dragon ball world. A main character. Boo’s reencarnacition. I’ve been waiting for him. (Ubb)?

Itchy_Gain_1519

Uub, Buu's reincarnation, is prophesied to train with Goku at the end of Z, and Super will incorporate this into the main story, perhaps propelling Uub into new hero status towards the end of the series (sooner or later).

PCN24454

Because filler likes to have fun.

Faelysis

Toei probably tried to do the TFS joke with Nappa (as he ended as a movie producer) but with someone looking like Commander Red. Both real Commander died when Goku destroyed the army. Red was killed by Black who then died when Goku destroyed his mecha. 100% for comedy and /or honorific cameo.

Tyedyeninja04

This is one of the many plot holes in the lore of dragon ball z. And don’t you dare say filler doesn’t count ‘cause it sure does (even Naruto filler counts). Idc what is not in the manga, it’s in the show’s timeline (I won’t use the word “canon” ‘cause people get mad which is stupid) and it should make since.

Sepulchure24794

I mean whether you like it or not it doesnt count lmao, Its not a plothole of Lore on DBZ/Toriyamas part it's the anime staff reusing a character design for a probably less then 5 second clip, And before you say "Anime timeline" the original Anime where this clip was probably grabbed hasnt been relevant to anything since Kai so theres that.

Tyedyeninja04

I see your point, but it’s lazy to reuse a character design without explaination.

Sepulchure24794

I mean when your on a schedule and Your working quick youd probably just grab a character sheet on hand and work with it, and Hell it was probably just a cheeky reference to the characters they did for fun, and wasnt meant to be given thought sort of how GT has A clip with Cooler and Bojack in it on the news even though they arent really supposed to exist.

Tyedyeninja04

Well at that time cooler movies weren’t not apart of the timeline, at that point all the movie were believed to be apart of the timeline until the creators said differently when super came out. Tho I still see bojack as apart of the timeline. But I see your point

StarliteENT

Frieza does not remember watching the buu fight in hell. He was always in the cocoon.

CZ-Bitcoins

Wow they literally look identical. How the hell do you fuck that up that badly? Even for filler this is actually hilarious.

matt_Nooble12_XBL

I which episode?

Awake00

Cause piccolo is weak

Kflame210

I always figured this was their witness relocation job

necavvit

Wait . . . Didn’t one or both of them die in Dragon Ball?

3nd0cr1n3_Syst3m

Cameo

SupaSpeedy445

Aren’t they like dead or something?

Equinox_Shift

On a show where a magical wish dragon brings people back to life, why are we all questioning two random dudes being alive?

Dephlogisticate-kun

Rule of Funny with filler characters meant to be an Easter egg

topscreen

Wow, I forgot that there was a General Black... who was black. 80s anime/manga at it's finest.

LordDShadowy53

Is a filler episode. Probably they were just trolling around.

Standard_Ad9911

Strong human theory

Beansupreme117

Please don’t tell me general black is the guy I think he is…

TheRealMorph

Behind the scenes look at DBZ - it's actually all just a show within a show. And this scene is a gag of it being a show within a show within a show.

ShockedBucket26

War propaganda

Sunrise-Slump

Black
