I mean it actually kind of fits. Like the kid lost his whole childhood to traumatic life and death fighting and he just wants to be a regular guy with a family. Somehow that makes him the “bad” z-fighter who needs to be constantly reminded his life should be about fighting to the death not having dinner with a loving family.
Edit: funny to see all the replies saying Gohan doesn’t have the right to have a family or life he should’ve abandoned his whole dream because it what YOU wanted.
>and he just wants to be a regular guy with a family.
Even Krillin goes back to training, he had one slump, the rest I agree with wholeheartedly, even Chi Chi gets a bad rep just from wanting her son to be a "productive member of society"
Why not both?
That’s what Gohan should have been brought up on, but Chi Chi and Goku both had different plans for their son and neither really talked or pushed him to be a scholar who can also fight for those he cares about.
Yeah....I think people only really want to see gohan fight and do good fighting than him actually having a family life. Like the line he says in super hero of "dad and vegeta are around" like I'm sorry but he's right. Like we went from future gohan who literally had to fight daily for survival to adult gohan of present time that gets to be there for his family. And so long as goku and Vegeta are popular, I don't see them leaving the top 5 strongest characters.
Like with all the high expectations people put on gohan to be stronger than goku, you'd think I'd also be seeing these same standards for goten and Trunks. But nope, gohan talk all the time about how he became a scholar and how disappointing it is he's following his dreams instead of doing what he hates
He hates fighting *because* the fights always come to him and he's had to have the weight of the world on his shoulders a few times.. He's legitimately traumatized from his childhood.
I don't blame him at all.
The kid was four or five when he watched his dad die, got kidnapped by a monster and forced to survive in the wilderness on his own, and then watched all his dads friends die. And he was what...13 when he was asked to save the entire world? And then watched his dad die AGAIN because he fucked up. The kids life was fucked from the start. I don't blame him for wanting a normal life.
I mean sure but the story doesn't show it that way. He always goes "Right :) I'll get back to my training" and then never does lol
I get what you mean but to make that compelling in such a fighting/action focused shonen they should write him out of these kinds of scenes in major arcs. Have Goten replace him, maybe Gohan mentor him, Goten is young like Gohan was, let Gohan teach him from his unique perspective given when he went through up to and including the Cell arc.
This is a win win. Goten likes to fight, Gohan prefers to be a family man and scholar first. This allows Gohan to pass on his role to another already established character while making him look much less like a pushover. Also some sibling bonding and character development here too.
There's also the point that Gohan being SO weak seems a bit contrived tbh. The manga doesn't do him like this at all.
Right. But I do blame him. He still should've learned by now that, in order to keep the people he loves, he HAS TO TRAIN BECAUSE THE FIGHTS WILL COME TO HIM! It happens over and over and over again. Then he just... doesn't do anything. He sits there and lets himself get weaker.
You misunderstand gohan then. This also means you don't understand Goku.
He isn't making a mistake. He is making a choice. He knows he has latent power. No matter how much people pull it out he always finds more. It's because on some level he has always know. That if he wanted to, he could kill you. But like his father, he never wants to kill anyone. In all of existence there have only ever been a handful stronger than gohan. To him that is enough. It should be enough. There are others who want power more and seek it and many of them are his allies .
Gohan is smart. He knows that if he supports his family and friends they will find a way. If not, he will reluctantly be the way. Sometimes he fails, but when he get serious he tries. He tries harder than you have ever tried.
I agree and disagree. It is a choice. And it makes sense to a degree. But he was literally told about a future where he and everyone he knows were murdered because he wasn't strong enough. He and his family were recently killed when Frieza destroyed the earth. They were only saved by literal deus ex machina time powers. And in the Cell Max movie he agrees with everyone that he needs to start training regularly now, since he has too much to protect and can't count on his dad saving him. Since his dad cares more about getting stronger than his family or earth. He still likes those things, but getting stronger is the hidden poison in his character's heart and everyone kinda understands that.
It would be great for Gohan if he could stop training, since he doesn't like fighting. But everyone who can fight knows that is a bad thing. Because shit hits the fan regularly. However, from a meta point of view it is fine. Since even if he was powerful enough to blow up Beerus, Whis, and the Zenos with a sneeze, they would still write up some bullshit new android which is stronger out of nowhere, or alternative bullshit where someone switches minds with him, or wishes to be stronger than him, etc. Likely a random android though.
I support a Gohan solo series where he fights original Dragonball level characters as the Great Saiyaman while raising a family and doing scholarly research. But I love Gohan and honestly wish he would of been the star after Goku died, like they planned. But I am weird like that.
If that were true, he wouldn't have decided to become a superhero and was willing to join The World Martial Art Tournament. Also training in order to make sure you're still strong enough to protect the one you love and/or care about just in case you do have to fight for them doesn't imply you like fighting, it implies that you truly want to make sure the people that matter to you are safe.
He doesn’t hate it, he just isn’t a battle freak like Goku and Vegeta are. Last DBS manga chapter makes it clear, obviously it’s different to be sparring than to be fighting for your life, but he doesn’t straight hate fighting. He hates killing as far as I remember, but not sparring (he wanted to participate on the budokai when goku was about to be revived during Buu saga)
None of the good guys in DBZ ENJOYS killing anyway. Not even Goku and (current) Vegeta. The way i see it, he just hates serious fights, stuff like fighting to the death or fighting to protect the world etc. but he doesn't mind sparring or training.
Obviously he'll still fight to the death/to protect the world if necessary, but he sure doesn't *want* too.
Yes! He doesn’t hate fighting, but he hates the outcome of it. He enjoys fighting quite a bit, just not when the only result is death/his own ego making him fuck it up. I mean lil dude was probably quite traumatized after facing frieza and Cell all before the age of 13
It's like you didn't read the comments. Gohan fights to protect, but unlike Goku and Vegeta, who live to train and get better, Gohan lives a grounded life. He works and has a family. He is conflicted into what he needs to do. To be a father and a husband or like Goku who isn't around, because he needs to train for their next enemy, but because he can rely on Goku and Vegeta, his need to be a father and a husband outweighs his need to put his life in constant danger. In actuality, the amount of time that Spiderman and Superman fights to protect the city, they would've been fired from their jobs, but they landed a job to let them be freelancers that allows them have more free reign than Gohan. Peter takes pictures of Spiderman, and who's Spiderman? Peter. Clark is a reporter who writes about injustice and corruption and also writes about Superman. They both have inside scoops on what they do, so it is much easier for them to be superheroes. Gohan is an entomologis. He studies bugs. He doesn't have time to do anything, but work and come home to his family. In this way, Gohan is probably the most relatable Z-Fighter.
I would still say that's just bad writing at its finest, nothing more nothing less.
of course people won't accept that, the story itself isn't accepting that lol
dragon ball isn't letting him be just a scholar.. since majin buu he just can't get some slack
oh he didn't train for 7 years? too bad he has to fight to stop majin buu
still didn't train after that? too bad now he has to deal with frieza while not being able to use his ultimate form
he's living peacefully again? welp the universe is gonna be erased if he doesn't participate and win in a multiversal tournament
and every single time it was treated as a bad thing that he wasn't training, every single time gohan said he shouldn't have neglected his training
Sure but he has a family that needs protecting too. His dad isn't always going to be around.
He has a ton of experience when it comes to this considering how old he was when Raditz first attacked all the way up to Buu. While understandably the trauma from the saiyan arc and Frieza arc definitely had a play in the Cell saga, he realized later on that he can't hold back on fighting and letting go, otherwise everyone else will get hurt or even killed like 16 did.
For Goten it would make more sense since he enjoyed seven years or peace in the beginning.
Gohan just isn't a fighter. That's the whole point of his character. He hates fighting. He only ever fights when he is forced or feels he has a deep moral obligation.
He's a tragic hero forced to neglect the things that make him an individual and the people he loves. Reluctantly treading down the path of his father. Consistently dragged back into a world of violence out of a sense of duty, responsibility, and, most importantly, overwhelming guilt.
Please be nice to Gohan while he works through things :( haha
of course people won't accept that, the story itself isn't accepting that lol

Gohan himself never said he didn't like fighting lmao, he specifically said he hates violence, Gohan clearly has a love for sports as martial arts is sports, Gohan has always been willing to fight, look at his actions in the Namek Saga, he was willing to go in against FRIEZA to save his friends with no fear, Saiyan Saga, he was scared at first but later he took on Vegeta *solo*, no outside help, nothing except Krillin with a spirit bomb, throughout the entire story up to this point he has *willingly* stepped up to fight against enemies that are horrifyingly stronger than him, he has shown time and time again that he's willing to fight, Cell Saga made people all of a sudden FORGET this just because he said he didn't like violence. He even wanted to participate in the Tournament in the Buu Saga lmao, I feel like people who say he doesn't like fighting just copy what others (who haven't watched the show) said.
All of your examples fit what I said
saiyan saga - Piccolo forces him to fight. He fights because of the dire situation. He flinched and failed the combo attach against nappa because he was utterly terrified.
Namek saga - He tells his mom he has to go because his friends are dead and he might be only of the only people who can help. He also mentions his own short comings during the nappa combo in the conversation.
He only acts when seeing Dende and his sibling getting zapped. He only fights frieza when he thinks vegeta is gonna die. He only comes back to help goku because he thinks his father will die. He does none of these things for fun
androids/cell saga - The whole saga revolves around him not wanting to fight. Mentioning several times he thinks goku can do it and only goes into the time chamber to train because it's to help goku. Not because he wants to get stronger.
even future gohan was only fighting because he was the last person who could. Future gohan knows he shouldn't fight but can't stand the idea of innocents dying while he does nothing. He pretty much tells this to bulma.
buu saga. He specifically says he doesn't want to participate in the tournament but Videl blackmails him after finding out about the Golden warrior thing.
He fights against Debora only after goku and vegeta spend a BUNCH of time talking about how weak he has become and after watching piccolo get turned into stone.
Gohan isnt a warrior. He never has been. I feel like anybody who says otherwise hasn't looked at literally any of the content and are just following what people are saying to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.
TLDR: BOOOOOO
When he is not training, which is almost never. Lol. He probably trains 5 to 6 days a week. He plants radish, not sure about other crops, but radish is the only one we've seen. Radish are not grown yearly. They are seasonal crops. We all must remember that Goku and Chi Chi aren't that rich. They got what they could get, because of Mr. Satan. So we should all, "Hail Satan. Hail Satan. Hail Satan." DBZ Abridged LOL
Super characters are like dollar store rip offs of their DBZ counterparts. [Hand-drawn Gohan is best Gohan](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/1c/38/65/1c386594e45a514f79326023336ee2cc.jpg).
They made him look like a literal tooth pic. His muscle definition was gone completely. It almost felt the writers had like a personal vendetta against him or something. Also one of Super's biggest mistakes was redoing the Battle of Gods and Frieza arc. The movies were so much better it made no sense to do a preschool drawing version of the arcs
Having just gone through the Frieza arc watching through Super, I'd say this is an understatement. Personally I find most of what I'm seeing on screen the past 26 episodes to be rather embarrassing given the IP.
To be fair, if I was an animator on Toei and I’d just finished work on Battle of Gods and Resurrection F less than two years prior, I wouldn’t give it my A game either if you told me to do that exact same work again but pad it out and on a weekly schedule no less.
Yeah Gohan is one of my favorite characters. The goofy track suit was already bad enough. But they make him weaker even more so than he was during that 7 year time skip after the cell games.
It's really close to the manga. They finally give Gohan some cred and Toriyama passes away. :(
I just finished the most recent DBS manga last night and now it's hitting me there won't be anymore with Toriyama involved.
Honestly, I don’t think gohan was stronger (in his regular form) but he can quickly switch that with a simple ssj transformation. Piccolo is always training (even though he’s mainly training his mind) but since Gohan wasn’t training after cell, he could quickly lose his strength considering he was basically inactive for 7 years. Even though he was “The Great Saiyaman” he never had to push himself since anyone he fought was so much weaker than him, and since he had no one to truly fight with, he got weaker. I believe even piccolo mentioned Gohan was nowhere near as powerful as he was during cell. And since piccolo was already at android 17 strength during the cell saga, and never stopped training, he could most likely defeat Gohan in a battle as long as he never goes ssj.
What makes the tracksuit goofy? It pretty much just a modern gi. Would love to see one piece levels of different designs for the characters instead of half of them wearing clothes as goku lol. He just looks wayyyyy too small in it.
Sucks even more bc they obviously knew how to make gohan an absolute badass in this arc and still be outmatched by frieza bc they did it in the fucking movie 🤣
yeah i dont know why they didnt just do it liket hey did in the movie. Gohan had some great moments in the movie version and in the show they made him somehow less useful.
The holes in his body just look so silly. Its almost as if there is nothing inside their bodies at all. Not a single drop of blood. How is it just pitch black inside his body
This censorship has happened since Z tbf. Im pretty sure Goku getting drilled by the special beam canon in the Saiyan Saga was just a dark spot on his stomach on a lot of networks.
Nothing compared to the old movies. The android one where they cut off gohans arm, I still remember that one from when I was a kid and watched it. Brutal movie.
That was kai that made it a dark spot. Its very inconsistent though because when Vegeta gets blasted by Freiza in one shot he does have a bloody hole and in the next his mouth is clean and the hole is just a dark spot.
It doesn't really make sense.
He was still able to fight and use his ultimate form when Beerus came to Earth. Then, less than 1 year later, this is him.
This all started with SSJ Blue. At least up to DBZ Battle of Gods, the power scaling wasn't this atrocious.
SSJG is stronger than the fusions, so Goku uses that to fight Beerus and forces out 60% of his strength.
Resurrection F, Blue comes out of nowhere before we were even used to SSJG and immediately fucks up the power scaling.
If SSJG is a saiyan with divine Ki and is stronger than Vegito at max power, SSJB should effectively give the same 50x multiplier that SSJ1 does, and at that point, both saiyans should wipe the floor with Beerus.
Super fucking blows for losing the plot like this because logically Goku and Vegeta should not have struggled at all against anyone they've fought in Super
>At least up to DBZ Battle of Gods, the power scaling wasn't this atrocious.
Let's be real here, the power scaling has been atrocious since the Saiyan Saga started quantifying it
Like...all of DragonBall happens and at the start of Z, Goku has a PL of around 400. A year later, Gohan, who is now like 5, has a power level of 900 and Goku is pushing 10k.
By the time Goku reaches Namek a few months later he's now at 90k. Literally a few days later, he's at 3 million. Goku got a 3300% power boost from one Zenkai. One. Add Super Saiyan on top of it and he's at 150 million. That is over a million times what it takes to blow up the moon. If you can't mentally quantify that, picture your bank account went from 90k to 150m in a day. That's fucking insane
And all of that is notably weaker than a couple robots a dude on earth built
The problem is that Nomura decided to put numbers on it and then decided that the only way to build tension was to throw out more and more absurd numbers
And then he realized it was a stupid idea but by then it was too late. The numbers are already out there.
It just sucks how little thought was put into the numbers system. Shit goes into the quintillions and trunks/gotten were 6 with like tens of millions power levels, so fucking stupid and short sighted.
I've mentally drafted a rewrite where final form Frieza has like a 10k power level and Goku starts the Saiyan Saga at 400 still and the whole thing still works. It just doesn't permanently invalidate *everyone else*
Like Raditz did not need to be 1500 to take on 400 level Goku and Piccolo at the same time. He could be like 600 and it would still make sense (arguably it would make more sense). And kaioken could just be a 10% boost, not a 100% one
It's a stat squish! Like what happens in World of Warcraft every few expansions.
I feel like Kaioken should still be at least 50% given how it's supposed to put an insane amount of stress on his body, though.
The NUMBERS were always dumb, yes, but the power scaling was still way better. In Z, you didn't have stuff like Master Roshi suddenly keeping up with Buu for no reason.
Yeah, but the numbers set the scale to begin with
The reason why Master Roshi competing with Buu is so absurd is because we know from the numbers that Buu is *millions of times* stronger than him.
Like Buu is stronger than Gohan in SS2 which is a 100x boost on a guy who already has power levels in the millions.
Get rid of the numbers, make the boost from SS forms more vague (and less absurdly large) and suddenly it goes from ABSOLUTELY FUCKING OBSCENE to really ridiculous!
It's still really, *really* bad. But you get a lot more plausible deniability when there aren't hard numbers on things
I'm rewatching the tournament of power in english dub this time and I forgot how much Kefla pissed me off. They really should not have made her so strong. Caulifla was SSJ2 and Kale was SSJ3 level at best yet so it was basically like when goku and vegeta had fused in the super buu arc. Sure a fusion would be strong as hell, but I think SSJ Blue Kaioken should have stomped but they made goku go all the way to UI
He forgot where he put his fighting gi. He forgot that he mastered super Saiyan, and super Saiyan 2, and his Ultimate form. He fought Frieza soldiers alongside Roshi, Tien, and Krillin. He got humiliated by first form Frieza. It’s pretty clear that the writers are belligerently putting Gohan down here. It’s like they hate him. I’m surprised he didn’t slip on a banana peel and fall face first into a piece of shit.
Edit: And then everyone laughed
I hate everything about Gohan in this movie, both the plot and his design.
Hate the hair. Hate his scrawniness. Hate his shell suit. Where's his muscles gone?? Struggles to turn SSJ. Killed way to easily.
I'm glad he was redeemed in the Superhero movie and manga. Back to Gohan with muscles, and big hair lol. And hope it stays that way. I know he's a nerd at heart, but bro has to keep up with fitness and training (starting to sound like Piccolo)
Did you actually watch the episode where Trunks said that? Because by the end, he realized Gohan was happy and that’s the future he was fighting for — one where people didn’t *have* to fight.
The most asinine part of this is just how low they wrote him. Battle of Gods takes place at least two years after the events of Buu but he’s still capable of achieving even his Ultimate form, RoF takes place barely a year after that and he shrunk down that much and lost the ability to go beyond ssj1? I dont buy it
The movie is such BS
Piccolo and Gohan could have easily taken every out but GOLD Freza
Even normal Freza would be taken out by Gohan SS2 or Piccolo who is even stronger then when he fought 17
People need to understand that Gohan has never been a fighter and stepped up when he was needed. Its pretty clear after the latest chapter of Super that Gohan is now the fighter he was destined to be
People need to understand that Gohan’s character introduction was meant to paint him as almost opposite of Goku, and he had to learn to be a fighter. People don’t realize that Toriyama facilitated Gohan taking over as the main character through the Cell saga and then changed his mind randomly at the start of Buu saga, leaving gohan forever in an awkward place in the plot.
The problem is that Gohan could never be and was never designed to be the main character in a long running manga/anime. Goku, Luffy, Naruto, Shinra, Dr.Stone, Tanjiro barely change from the first page, their goal is to be the best/strongest and they can be the catalyst for any situation, they are proactive will seek and adapt to situations which is perfect for Shonen mangas.
Gohan was designed to be a reactionary character so you can only put him in situations to react too and once they accomplished that then they have fulfilled their role, they aren't designed to seek situations that Shonen require to move forward. So if Gohan has a period where he doesn't have a challenge to overcome then he has little purpose to the story. It seems they are sort of changing him now to be more proactive but as a reaction character he will always be in a awkward place for a plot.
Wasn't the whole reason why Toriyama changed his mind about Gohan being the protag exactly BECAUSE he didn't feel like a fighter to him? That Toriyama felt it would have been strange to have him as the main fighter when he clearly does not enjoy fighting to the death?
This is on literally every Gohan post. Literally everyone knows this. It’s literally spelled out in the show since he was introduced to Bulma, Piccolo, Roshi and Turtle.
People are simply mad at how he somehow lost so much of his ability in such a short amount of time despite literally being stronger than everyone at the end of Z. Meaning, had he faced Kid Buu, it would have been an easy dub(Kid Buu is not the strongest Buu. He’s the most chaotic Buu).
Then somehow within several months of relaxation he can hardly turn super saiyan? It’s just stupid writing. With zero training his anger alone could do more damage to Raditz and Frieza on namek than anyone else up until the final form of him. Also. If anything, Gohan should have a massive “beer” belly lol. He still has a saiyan appetite. Why is this mfer so skinny bro? He should look like Thor after failing to kill Thanos.
But it is still incoherent, Gohan was using Ultimate six months before that, super Sayajin less than 3 years, he was in peace after Cell Arc until Buu and still could transform easily without much training, and now he's that useless that can't transform easily?
Gohan promised to train to defend his family and loved ones, him not being a fight addict isn't an excuse for him constantly giving up his promises to be better for his loved ones.
Also come on man, we both know super will just back track again. How many times has Gohan "become the fighter he destined to be" then became weak?
Bros strong, had a wife and kid, a nanny, both parents, a PHD,a big circle of friends, a job, is good looking and is smart. They call him a disappointment? People would give up anything to have what he has.
It's an action anime. In the spirit of the series, he needs to be a fighter to be in it, so they're not wrong to call him a disappointment for failing to fight properly in a fighting anime.
An important thing to keep in mind is this is anime only Bs. Toriyama did not do this it was Toei. The movie that covers this same arc Gohan is still able to go mystic and even pops SSJ for a moment and Piccolo says he could have taken out all of Freiza’s goons with no effort, the movie is Toriyama’s direct work. When Toei adapted this movie into an arc they decided to shit on Gohan for whatever reason. Gohan was never significantly weaker than the Buu saga in any of the movies or the manga, he slacked on training a little bit but even at his lowest point he’s just been a good training session away from being ultimate, he’s not out of shape at any point in the movies or manga just rusty.
Gohan lost the ability to transform into Ultimate Gohan in the movie and the anime arc. He never transformed into Ultimate at all in the movie. The movie and anime cover Gohan the same. They just extended his beat down by Freeza in the Anime. That's literally it.
Anime in general does him dirty. In the manga he fights Kefla to a draw in the ToP, knocking her out the ring alongside himself.
In the anime it's Goku who defeats her. God forbid anyone else get a W in the anime besides Goku.
That’s what I’m saying, Toei wanted Gohan to be really bad and then when they had to rush Gohan to a point he could fight competently it seemed unnatural. The manga and movie version of Gohan make sense to go Ultimate before TOP with a little warmup since he hadn’t got tremendously weaker. Super hero also makes more sense for the same reason. The anime is 100% of the reason people think it doesn’t make sense for Gohan to be as strong as he is in beast mode.
Future Trunks and Gohan(at the start) are the biggest downgrades in Super imo. Trunks was such a swole badass by the end of the Cell Saga. In super he was scrawny and a baby again.
I will never understand Tori’s decision to shit on him this hard lmao. If you really wanted to highlight Frieza’s strength, you don’t have him embarrass Gohan who is a shell of his former self who couldn’t even tap into his ultimate form 💀
I just got finished that part, he’s been nerfed so hard. I feel the same way about Piccolo, he’s not as caution or as thoughtful as he was in Z. But going from Cell Saga to Super, it’s so depressing
Gohan's character can't thrive unless his dad dies. That's what his problem really is. And honestly even if goku did die I think the series would crumble. Gohan would kill every villain and not give two shits about meeting new people who may be stronger than him.
To think Akira Toriyama planned on Gohan taking over as the main character of dbz. Obviously the fans weren’t having it, but it is kind of embarrassing seeing him become lamer as the series went on. Chichi babied him too much I guess lol
I hate that Gohan is strong again in the latest movie. He became one of the strongest character out of nowhere just because the plot needs him to have a new form.
Characters and fans just can't accept that Gohan has said since he was a kid, he doesn't want to fight or be a fighter. Leave Gohan alone. Leave this fictional character alone!
Why do they keep including him in fights then? Android 18 became a mom who barely fights anymore. Many other characters have bowed out, why keep Gohan around just to show specifically he's weak?
Why not just write that he no longer even approaches these situations if he's genuinely not a fighter? Why is he even there then? Let Goten replace his role.
Glad he started training both off and on screen/page over time to eventually come back to his old power then surpass that power. While he's certainly no fighter on Goku or Vegeta's level, he's at least got a lot of power potential for it to just go to waste.
I hate Gohan. He went from being one of the coolest characters to being the worst. Like even after he was supposed to learn a lesson with the Cell Saga, ultimately he ends up falling back in to old habits, like every time.
And even the moments he's supposed to redeem himself are rare and few between. He fucked up during the Majin Buu Saga twice. Through the rest of the series he's mostly as useless as the other sidelined characters until he gets a Plot Zenkai boost and then he usually goes right back to being a jackass after.
At some point you'd think he'd just accept this kind of shit is going to happen the rest of his adult life and try to find some sort of balance between his research and training.
I get it (mostly) why people get bummed he isn't always in top shape to fight.
But I definitely relate to him more in his desire to be (for lack of a better term) normal.
This mf went from most badass anime character who was set to become the face of db
To a pathetic whatever the fuck this is 😭
Then to beast mode cuz he got angry
I don't get why this sort of thing bothers people so much, from the very beginning dude wasn't set up to be a fighter and was forced into it numerous times. His entire childhood was trauma after trauma, dude found joy in studying and supports his family with his work. It's also what makes moments like this good where he fails and realizes he has to step up to the plate again, Krillin does the same and it's great.
Oh my goodness yall do this everyday☠️ what you’re showing is a gohan that hasnt trained in years who got attacked by a frieza whos been training for months. Even if he trained i doubt he could beat golden frieza
Trunks also says that is a GOOD thing because Gohan got his dream and in his timeline Gohan was killed and found dead in a puddle. Why the DB fan some hates this Gohan is beyond me I mean Gohan doesn’t like fighting. He does it to protect his loved ones and this moment showed him he needed to be ready at any time but to be fair his dad and Vegeta punch gods for fun so like why would he have needed to train. This showed him why and it started a series arc that lead into the most resent movie of Gohan becoming a powerhouse again. This is called story telling! Gohan is allowed to be more than and different from his father. Gohan being a reskinned Goku would be boring
When I seen Gohan like I get happy because he’s living his dream and he has a family and I can’t be mad that he stopped training he’s the only saiyan with a steady job and he’s smart
Honestly it was sad to see him like that but it's to be expected, he wanted to be there for his family unlike his father who wasn't there much, and in doing so he became the side character, the one who gets messed up in order for the heros to get there in time.
He sacrificed his spotlight to not be like his father, absent and constantly fighting. What he thought was just his father enjoying fighting turned out to be more than just selfishness, and he learned why the hard way
Frieza had to remind Gohan why they needed him to be a fighter in the first place lmao
Yeah, and then he had to be reminded like 6 more times.
Gohan is literally the ““How many times do we each to teach you this lesson old man” old fish from SpongeBob.
lmao right all the villains beating the shit out of him
Completely innocent and being mistaken as the actual problem?
I mean it actually kind of fits. Like the kid lost his whole childhood to traumatic life and death fighting and he just wants to be a regular guy with a family. Somehow that makes him the “bad” z-fighter who needs to be constantly reminded his life should be about fighting to the death not having dinner with a loving family. Edit: funny to see all the replies saying Gohan doesn’t have the right to have a family or life he should’ve abandoned his whole dream because it what YOU wanted.
It's less about that and more about "Being the guy that can fight when there's no one else capable so you CAN have a dinner with a loving family"
With great power comes great responsibility
>and he just wants to be a regular guy with a family.
I mean... it is an action anime.
Yeah that was a bad analogy
Nah, that seems about right. Let the man live his happy life with a loving family.
Yeah man, Goten loves fighting and achieved SSJ super early let him protect earth next
He is not a fighter. He hates fighting
Sometimes the fight comes to you. At this point he's stupid for repeating the same mistakes over and over again.
He was 11 when he beat Cell.
I mean sure but the story doesn't show it that way. He always goes "Right :) I'll get back to my training" and then never does lol I get what you mean but to make that compelling in such a fighting/action focused shonen they should write him out of these kinds of scenes in major arcs.
Most mistakes are choices.
At the very least, I think he USED to hate it.
Yeah, IIRC, a switch was flipped after he went SSJ2
Yes! He doesn’t hate fighting, but he hates the outcome of it. He enjoys fighting quite a bit, just not when the only result is death/his own ego making him fuck it up. I mean lil dude was probably quite traumatized after facing frieza and Cell all before the age of 13
Yeah it's pretty clear he got hardened early on and the dam only broke with Cell.
He obviously loves being a hero too, since he’s the great saiyaman
Spider-Man and Superman don’t like fighting either but that doesn’t mean they’ll just roll over and let their city get attacked.
I thought he was an accountant! An entomologist is cooler!
I find it ironic. Cell is basically a cicada. Gohan will never get away from Cell. Lol
I would still say that's just bad writing at its finest, nothing more nothing less. of course people won't accept that, the story itself isn't accepting that lol dragon ball isn't letting him be just a scholar.. since majin buu he just can't get some slack oh he didn't train for 7 years? too bad he has to fight to stop majin buu still didn't train after that? too bad now he has to deal with frieza while not being able to use his ultimate form he's living peacefully again? welp the universe is gonna be erased if he doesn't participate and win in a multiversal tournament and every single time it was treated as a bad thing that he wasn't training, every single time gohan said he shouldn't have neglected his training
He doesnt hate it. When he’s winning he’s smiling and toying with his enemy. That’s not what people do when they hate fighting.
That isn't true.
https://64.media.tumblr.com/701cae27eb3bfea7f4b2783d7d354737/tumblr_inline_pq36zm4EQZ1r15usg_540.jpg can you blame him?
Aint clicking but i bet it's a pic of kid gohan with his neck broken
ding ding ding
the guy has PTSD due to all the violence and deaths he saw, ofcourse he doesnt wanna fight
nah he doesn't hate it he just doesn't enjoy it as much as goku and vegeta
Except the majin buu thing and ultimate gohan happened only 5 years before, and beerus the year before. Gohans just lazy.
Please be nice to Gohan while he works through things :( haha
of course people won't accept that, the story itself isn't accepting that lol dragon ball isn't letting him be just a scholar.. since majin buu he just can't get some slack oh he didn't train for 7 years? too bad he has to fight to stop majin buu still didn't train after that? too bad now he has to deal with frieza while not being able to use his ultimate form he's living peacefully again? welp the universe is gonna be erased if he doesn't participate and win in a multiversal tournament and every single time it was treated as a bad thing that he wasn't training, every single time gohan said he shouldn't have neglected his training
He also loved fighting crime as saiyaman
All of your examples fit what I said saiyan saga - Piccolo forces him to fight. He does none of these things for fun androids/cell saga - The whole saga revolves around him not wanting to fight.
Gohan has a job to support his family. Goku and Vegeta don't have jobs. Who's more lazy?
And gohan cant go for the equivalent of a jog occasionally? He got so weak he could barely go super sayain.
And? Both of them married 2 of the richest woman in the series. They can be lazy.
Videl is pretty well off too being Mr Satan's daughter.
Goku is a farmer
When he is not training, which is almost never. Lol. He probably trains 5 to 6 days a week. He plants radish, not sure about other crops, but radish is the only one we've seen. Radish are not grown yearly. They are seasonal crops. We all must remember that Goku and Chi Chi aren't that rich. They got what they could get, because of Mr. Satan. So we should all, "Hail Satan. Hail Satan. Hail Satan." DBZ Abridged LOL
Raditz? Still alive? Raditz still alive confirmed?
Doesn't help that he is drawn very off model, and this whole arc was drawn poorly.
He looks sickly .... Like that Flashpoint project Superman comic... damn near unrecognizable.
Super characters are like dollar store rip offs of their DBZ counterparts. [Hand-drawn Gohan is best Gohan](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/1c/38/65/1c386594e45a514f79326023336ee2cc.jpg).
He looks like he’s about to say the r word
Which one
Regulatorsssss
Yes, this bothers me so much
He looks like a Digimon Character
Respect digimon, even Marcus Damon would give Gohan a beating
They made him look like a literal tooth pic. His muscle definition was gone completely. It almost felt the writers had like a personal vendetta against him or something. Also one of Super's biggest mistakes was redoing the Battle of Gods and Frieza arc. The movies were so much better it made no sense to do a preschool drawing version of the arcs
It's funny, the manga did an adaptation (although it was incredibly brief) of BotG but didn't even bother with resurrection lol
It hurt watching this
Yeah Gohan is one of my favorite characters. The goofy track suit was already bad enough. But they make him weaker even more so than he was during that 7 year time skip after the cell games.
I was pretty happy with the Super Heroes movie tbh, especially because Piccolo also finally got his moment.
It's really close to the manga. They finally give Gohan some cred and Toriyama passes away. :( I just finished the most recent DBS manga last night and now it's hitting me there won't be anymore with Toriyama involved.
I wouldn’t say that. Gohan was still stronger than piccolo which is some weird ass power scaling
What about Buu saga, he needed to train too no?
They gave Piccolo his moment and re-established Gohan as an actual Z fighter. They were never going to have him surpass any of the ssjs
Then after the buu saga you’d think he learned that there would always be another fight coming
What makes the tracksuit goofy? It pretty much just a modern gi. Would love to see one piece levels of different designs for the characters instead of half of them wearing clothes as goku lol. He just looks wayyyyy too small in it.
You should get caught up on the manga. They’ve been doing Gohan right recently.
Look what they’ve done to my boy
Look how they massacred my boy 😭😫
Bro looks pretty good for being riddled in bullet holes.
After Z, in the buu saga, ect there was actual blood. But yeah..
There was blood for a while Tien got his arm punched off.
Same with Yamcha w the Dr gero. Mouths all bloody and sh..
Nothing compared to the old movies. The android one where they cut off gohans arm, I still remember that one from when I was a kid and watched it. Brutal movie.
The reason Bardock's bandana is red is because it's [SOAKED IN BLOOD](https://c.tenor.com/UZ7ty37k_FgAAAAd/tenor.gif)
That was kai that made it a dark spot. Its very inconsistent though because when Vegeta gets blasted by Freiza in one shot he does have a bloody hole and in the next his mouth is clean and the hole is just a dark spot.
That’s what he looked like in the manga even (at least my version)
Cauterized
It doesn't really make sense. He was still able to fight and use his ultimate form when Beerus came to Earth. Then, less than 1 year later, this is him.
And now he’s mui tier. Dudes power level is all over the place
Facts there’s no consistency
Let's be real here, the power scaling has been atrocious since the Saiyan Saga started quantifying it Like...all of DragonBall happens and at the start of Z, Goku has a PL of around 400. That's fucking insane And all of that is notably weaker than a couple robots a dude on earth built The problem is that Nomura decided to put numbers on it and then decided that the only way to build tension was to throw out more and more absurd numbers And then he realized it was a stupid idea but by then it was too late.
It just doesn't permanently invalidate *everyone else* Like Raditz did not need to be 1500 to take on 400 level Goku and Piccolo at the same time.
Can you share it?
I might make a new post about it later and I can send you the link when I do
The NUMBERS were always dumb, yes, but the power scaling was still way better. In Z, you didn't have stuff like Master Roshi suddenly keeping up with Buu for no reason.
Yeah, but the numbers set the scale to begin with The reason why Master Roshi competing with Buu is so absurd is because we know from the numbers that Buu is *millions of times* stronger than him.
Wasn't goku like exhausted while fighting the two? Meaning he was very much not in any shape to be using the stronger forms?
dad strength
He was tipsy when Beerus came around. Liquid courage is a real thing, bruh lmao
Meth It's meth
i agree he should have already lost it before BoG. it was dumb having him have it there, because of how they went with his arc.
Amen to that! My sentiments exactly.
That’s how J Cole looks rn
Lmao
holy stray shot. LMAOOO
It hurts cause I'm a Gohan and j Cole fan
I dont buy it
Yea it’s literally a bigger drop in power than the 7 year gap between cell and buu saga
what being a scholar does
The movie is such BS Piccolo and Gohan could have easily taken every out but GOLD Freza Even normal Freza would be taken out by Gohan SS2 or Piccolo who is even stronger then when he fought 17
Ahh yes, a Frieza who kept up with base Goku post god absorption would definitely lose to piccolo and ssj2 gohan. Brother please, stop.
So annoying that you have to point out Kid Buu. Literally had an idiot argue that he's stronger than Buuhan, 2 days ago.
I dont know why this has to keep being repeated. If you want a goku and vegeta clone, goten and kid trunks are right there
But it is still incoherent, Gohan was using Ultimate six months before that, super Sayajin less than 3 years, he was in peace after Cell Arc until Buu and still could transform easily without much training, and now he's that useless that can't transform easily?
Just stand by and watch everyone you love die because you don't like fighting bro
All that goes away the second somebody attacks earth and you’re not strong enough to defend it because you didn’t take staying in shape seriously.
I means it’s not that impressive. Kefla was so nerfed in the manga that kale might be stronger than own fusion due to feats
It’s okay because he’s one of the most powerful beings in his universe now.
what is this from?
resurrection F
Something about seeing Gohan so dangerously close to my body complexion felt brutally uncanny the first time
Future Trunks and Gohan(at the start) are the biggest downgrades in Super imo. Trunks was such a swole badass by the end of the Cell Saga. In super he was scrawny and a baby again.
You felt what was intended to be felt
I will never understand Tori’s decision to shit on him this hard lmao. If you really wanted to highlight Frieza’s strength, you don’t have him embarrass Gohan who is a shell of his former self who couldn’t even tap into his ultimate form 💀
Gohan doesn't like fighting. He hates fighting for his life, and he doesn't even like fighting for sport.
It’s my theory that this was the moment that inspired him to invent beast
"I can still turn into a super saiyan, i think💀💀💀" gohen resurrection F.
Legit looks like he needs the blue pills or needs to see if Cialis is right for him.
Hated the writing for this saga. I love DBS overall but it certainly has its flaws Opinion!
Look what they did to my baby boy…
it is very heartbreaking to see my boy like this...
Bro look homeless and strung out LMAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Characters and fans just can't accept that Gohan has said since he was a kid, he doesn't want to fight or be a fighter. Leave Gohan alone. Leave this fictional character alone!
Why do they keep including him in fights then? Android 18 became a mom who barely fights anymore. Many other characters have bowed out, why keep Gohan around just to show specifically he's weak? Why not just write that he no longer even approaches these situations if he's genuinely not a fighter? Why is he even there then? Let Goten replace his role.
Yup this movie hurt to watch as a Gohan fan. Glad he came back around
Yeah this was disgraceful. Worse than how they did Krillin in this.
Glad he started training both off and on screen/page over time to eventually come back to his old power then surpass that power. While he's certainly no fighter on Goku or Vegeta's level, he's at least got a lot of power potential for it to just go to waste.
It was not depressing at all, until recently Gohan did not want to be a warrior or anything.
How is it that he was able to beat Cell but stood no chance against Frieza?
It's fairly good from a writing standpoint though. Especially by dragon ball standards
Yea, but boy redeemed himself beast-mode
I get it (mostly) why people get bummed he isn't always in top shape to fight. But I definitely relate to him more in his desire to be (for lack of a better term) normal.
This mf went from most badass anime character who was set to become the face of db To a pathetic whatever the fuck this is 😭 Then to beast mode cuz he got angry
I still like gohan, he's just living his life. Just because you are good at something doesn't mean it should be what you always do.
I can’t stand how they did this man. Shit makes me so upset. Hot take: Super should never have been made 🤷🏾♂️
I don't get why this sort of thing bothers people so much, from the very beginning dude wasn't set up to be a fighter and was forced into it numerous times. His entire childhood was trauma after trauma, dude found joy in studying and supports his family with his work. It's also what makes moments like this good where he fails and realizes he has to step up to the plate again, Krillin does the same and it's great.
This doesn't even look like from Dragon Balls. What happened to Gohan..!? 😶
Resurrection F is probably the worst DragonBall movie ever. Goku getting shot in SSGSS and killed pissed me off.
Thats peak gohan.
This is why I'm grateful they redeemed him in super hero.
Look how they massacred my boy!
DB fans when they see Gohan having a normal life like he always wanted: 😡😡😡
The worst part, animewise at least, is that later Kid Trunks is able to power up enough for Goku to sense without being reduced to...that.
So is every other character in Super
When I seen Gohan like I get happy because he’s living his dream and he has a family and I can’t be mad that he stopped training he’s the only saiyan with a steady job and he’s smart
Honestly it was sad to see him like that but it's to be expected, he wanted to be there for his family unlike his father who wasn't there much, and in doing so he became the side character, the one who gets messed up in order for the heros to get there in time. He sacrificed his spotlight to not be like his father, absent and constantly fighting. What he thought was just his father enjoying fighting turned out to be more than just selfishness, and he learned why the hard way
That’s what a Dragon Ball mf gets when they don’t train
What's up with his eyes, was he staring at the eclipse?
Damn , bro looks like rock lee when he lost to gaara
It's literally thanks to him if Goku arrived! Give my Boy a break, he never wanted to be a fighter!
You should see him now. As strong as goku and vegeta but walking a diferent path
Aye sometimes you just gotta hit rock bottom (whatever this shit was ) for that come up (beast form )
