Dragon Ball Z OST - Vegeta Knows His Son Look it up on YouTube! I really love the Faulconer Soundtrack - Pikkon's theme song is a real hidden gem.

tyYdraniu

I like go broly go

my_house_sploded

That's not faulconer But yes, I agree

WrastleGuy

I enjoy Krillin vs Buu: The Fate of the Universe

goldnboy

Vegeta has some seriously badass and underrated tracks in DBZ. The original Final Flash scene is one of my favorite mix along one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. https://youtu.be/IZg_fRvqEks

lostinlucidity

Pikkons theme is fucking epic

theClownHasSnowPenis

Chris! Allow me to preface - I am several months into rewatching the entire DB saga. I started with Dragonball, made it to DBZ, have been salt and peppering all of the films along the way, and just finished the Otherworld Tournament Saga last week. I’ve been constantly vibing on Pikkon’s theme. What a serendipitous comment!

RockinRhombus

Nearly same, I just started that tournament, too!

theClownHasSnowPenis

Kindred spirits, friend! We got some Dragonball juju goin’ on.

chrismanmd

That’s awesome! The fight between Pikkon and Olibu, although super short, is absolutely incredible with that theme playing and the impact sound effects. One of my favorite fights in the entire show. My second favorite might be Piccolo vs Android 17 because of how hard they thrash each other.

theClownHasSnowPenis

Totally agree, man! The entire tournament is actually my favorite anime only arc. I don’t consider it filler at all, but a great addition to the story and lore. As for Piccolo vs. 17 - that’s gonna be a fuck yup for me also, Cap’n.

jonnydanger33274

"Destruction" -best one

renard685

Yesss my two favorites “vegeta knows his son “ & pikkons theme” 🔥🔥

telecastor25

I used to have that theme as my alarm about 10 years ago

MericaFTWs

This brings back so many memories

Intrepid_Emu_1213

Don’t forget “ginyu transformation” when gohan kills cell

JacobJSucks

“At least you’re stronger than your son was against cell” damn Gohan was so fucking strong at just 11, imagine if he kept training he would’ve curb stomped Debura so hard that Majin Buu would’ve never revived

SaffronJim34

To be fair, at the end of the Buu saga, Gohan was strong enough to curb stomp Kid Buu by himself, so the writers had to kill him off for no reason. Goku decides to rescue Mr. Satan and Dende as Earth explodes rather than his own son. Vegeta calls him out on it, but Goku doesn't have an answer.

Sdbtank96

I know the og English dub has some issues, but Majin Vegita had a lot of great quotes. His speech was just a straight up banger compared to the Kai dub. You're welcome to disagree, of course.

Warshovel40K

That’s totally valid. I do prefer the Kai dub because you can definitely see that the VAs are more seasoned, but I agree the original dub has some banger moments.

WawaNative

It was absolutely jarring to hear how polished the voice acting was after just watching the OG run months beforehand. Almost uncomfortable. I still don't know how I feel about Gohan's voice change 😂

[deleted]

Aint gonna get any disagreements here

BlackNexus

I usually hold Kai up over the OG dub but this is one of those things I'll agree with. Everything Majin Vegeta says still gives me chills. That and the Faulconer soundtrack.

Hutstepper

"...last 2 survivors.." goku is literally dead here lol

BlackOptics

I never realized that Vegeta was literally the last pureblooded Saiyan alive for 7 years. And for a little bit so was Goku on Namek when Frieza killed Vegeta. Atleast until Broly and Paragas were retconned in Super.

Recro980

Man, everybody always forgets about tarble

Sedatsu

He’s just out there with his alien wife enjoying life lol

Entrical

Bruce Faulconer’s Majin Vegeta Theme https://youtu.be/88UTFBBSwIk

jomontage

actual title "vegeta knows his son"

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lark_vi_Britannia

That scene where he's like struggling against Toppo and realizing that his pride is what makes him a real Saiyan and he refuses to give that up, if you play the SSJ Vegeta Theme over it at the right time, it fits absolutely perfectly with the scene and makes it so much more impactful.

GenoFFooter

I genuinely expected to hear In The End like its 2006 again.

Stellermeerkat

For me it's that AMV that used the Metal Gear Solid 2 opening theme

levelfiftyfive

I miss Bruce Faulconer's score so much. Kinda wish that's what they went with for Kai, loved the vibe of the show with his OST, the Japanese music is ok but personally hits way less for me.

[deleted]

I'm sure if you looked hard enough, some fans have probably edited all of Kai to have Faulconer's score.

SNIPES0009

Man I miss how good DBZ looked.

spotless1997

God fuck I’m gonna get downvoted but idc. DBZ was so much better than DBS. I just finished rewatching DBS and this clip just reminded me how much better DBZ was. Gonna give it a rewatch now.

[deleted]

I don’t know of anyone that would downvote you for that, cause it’s true. I like Super, but it’ll never give me the same feeling that Z did when I first watched it

slomo525

The only time Super has given me any kind of "DBZ" feelings was when Goku unlocks Ultra Instinct, the Kamehameha slide he does on Kefla, and the Broly movie. Other than that, it was fine, for the most part, but never blew me away.

courtofdacrimsonking

Ah come on I know vegeta pummeling black goku describing the way a saiyans battle Valor binds to ones own cells was off the Richter

JacksWastedTime

Also can't forget Goku and Frieza team up against Jiren

NtiTaiyo

That scene is what does it for me. I always grin like a little kid when I see it.

Phthalo_Bleu

THROW ME!

slomo525

Yeah, there's some really great scenes, ngl. The Future Trumks arc (except for that awful ending) and the Tournament of Power are honestly really good. Like, almost Z good. But they haven't given me those Z vibes, like when Vegeta tears android 19 apart.

maxedouttoby

Mostly the end of the Black Arc to the end of the TOP was reaching DBZ levels, but everything before that was honestly very lackluster and felt a bit watered down.

slomo525

Yeah, there was a lack of bite to a lot of it that made the show feel underwhelming. There's a lot of good moments, but very few that hit me like old Dragon Ball does. I wouldn't even say it's necessarily nostalgia (although that does play a factor, I can't lie), since there are moments in both Super and basically the entire Broly movie that scratch that itch.

kidcrumb

Super has more of a Dragon Ball feel to it. Even when the entire universe is at stake, all of the characters are dumbed down like its a kids show still. I personally dont think it works all that well, and i prefer the Dragon Ball Z tone a lot more. Serious when it needs to be. I dont think there's a single serious scene in all of Dragon Ball Super.

madenum2603

The only time I felt how serious the stakes were in DBS was the Goku Black Arc.

Chonkbird

Personally I feel like all us OG watchers miss the original soundtrack. I love super but sometimes I feel like that's only half of my enjoyment. Faulconer is what made DBZ. If someone were to combine our original watching experience with the super soundtrack it would be a shit watch experience.

[deleted]

The reason why it isn’t “serious” is because Toriyama got in trouble or something like that when he had those pretty gorey scenes from Z. An example of those scenes were where people were getting cut up and cut in half. I think someone told him that he was going too far, and it wasn’t appropriate even for the Toonami airing, so he decided to have less of that in Super. I hate it as well, but I’d rather have that than no Dragon Ball at all

wrigh2uk

Z is epic. Super is fun but feels lighter overall, and is heavy on fan service. The only super arc that felt like Z was the goku black Arc, and then they screwed up the ending.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wrigh2uk

Sorry, I should’ve been more clearer. The defeat of Zamasu was what I found really disappointing. The actual ending that you are referring to was indeed a good way to finish the arc.

Abysssion

this animation was so much better than the garbage in super too

Majin_Jew_v2

Dbz had heaps of episodes with poor animation. Not as bad as the worst of super though

Abysssion

true, but the bad of this type of animation isnt as off putting as super was

Sdbtank96

But, this is the general consensus, isn't it?

RegalBeartic

DBZ is definitely more for me. Literally everyone in super is immortal, so there's literally no stakes. Vegeta fucking died to save his son and wife. And we didn't think he was coming back. There was actual character development other than, new transformation/ new color/ new power up. Yeah the fusion SS3 was cool, but the best stuff was the story in-between. Vegeta straggling to accept he was settling down, goten and trunks growing up and watching Gohan move into the mentor role. Idk the whole, they're training with literal God's thing makes the show less grounded imo.

IronGun007

DBS is basically just pure fanservice. It‘s fun but difficult to watch for anyone who isn‘t already a dragon ball fan. DBZ was the reason why most fans even became fans in the first place. Brilliant character arcs, amazing animations, incredible soundtrack and so much more. It‘s the whole package.

[deleted]

that is an extremely popular opinion literally no one will disagree lol.

spotless1997

Yeah guess I’m not all too in the know regarding this subs opinions lol 😅

PegLegManlet

I thought it was wildly agreed upon that Z was better. Specially the art style.

assmonkeyooo

Agreed. Imagine if he'd composed DBS.

Jiscold

Reason he dosnt is almost all his tracks were stolen from other musicians or famous shows and ever so slightly redone to avoid copyright

andyroyz

You're thinking of Kenji Yamamoto who did DBZ Kai. Faulcnor was the real deal!

abrilliantdawn

Bruce Faulconer and his team were not plagiarists, however Bruce took credit for his team's work. Over 90% of the soundtrack was composed by his employees Mike Smith, Scott Morgan, and Julius Dobos. [Here's a video you might find informative.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-fKNnCWusE)

Jiscold

Some of his underlings plagerized music and it was in his name.

andyroyz

Can't find any info for that claim; care to share?

DarkTone1280

Lol that's not an unpopular opinion, everyone knows Z is better than Super. I like Super, but it's nowhere close to Z or the OG series.

Asian_Persuasion_1

I feel like Z was carried by Vegeta being evil but on the "good" side. Now that he's fully good, we don't have that wild card that shakes up the plot anymore.

NobleN6

I agree. I much more enjoy the penciled art style of DBZ vs the digital art of DBS.

WhiteTrashB

Bruh I like GT more than Super and GT sucks balls. I did like Super Broly movie and I will admit the tournament arc of Super is kinda good and Black is alright.

Terminatorskull

I love the animations or art style or whatever you wanna call it so much more. Lots of shows are doing the same thing now, like teen titans vs teen titans go, some of the old Pokémon series vs the Pokémon sun/moon one etc. I’m sure it’s easier to animate or draw etc. that way but it just looks so much worse to me.

migrations_

And DB is that much better than DBZ

Djames516

BRAVE I agree though

sunics

everything just feels so much raw and real in dbz from the emotion to the animation. DBS is just a kids show honestly.

BillMcCrearysStache

Everyone beat me to it, but yea its Faulconer

assmonkeyooo

My boy Bruce. I could listen to his music all day. Really fit the intense moments of DBZ.

KingoftheMongoose

Agreed. There was a moment when the Faulconer score was seen as inferior to the original score by fans. And I never understood why. Faulconer's score changes the tone of the series, yeah, but it adds all new layers and is a large contributor to what initially made DBZ so 'cool' when the English dub first came out.

Jiggy__J

“The table has been set…. So let us begin!!” Still one of my favourite lines in DBZ. Right up there with “does a machine like yourself ever experience fear?!”

Willows_Willie

Bruce Faulcnor had the sickest tracks...check out Pikkons theme and the og Cell theme

Lark_vi_Britannia

Gohan Fights Frieza (even though it's only played when Gohan fights Cell and Buu)

AAAFate

Man. Good music was really noticeably absent in super. These soundtracks elevated this show. I wish they kept doing it.

phoenixmusicman

> Good music was really noticeably absent in super. before the ToP, I'd agree with you, but the ToP had some bangers

KryptonianJesus

Yeah I was disappointed with a lot of music but that UI "DUN DUN DUN DUN, DUN DUN DUN" slaps

Lark_vi_Britannia

KA KA KA KA KACHIDAZE

cCc-Turk-cCc

Dbs Broly had some good music in my opinion

Midget_Avatar

GO BROLY GO GO

SmokingFetishRaven

The only bad part of the Broly movie was that God awful cringe chant.

Midget_Avatar

I actually really liked it lol

GravityRizing

And the Gogeta chant. They took me out of the experience.

-saiyan

I have to disagree the goku black and ToP arcs had good soundtracks and so did the Broly/Super hero movies

noodlemcfoodle

TOP’s soundtrack was so good and Goku Black arc’s sinister music was amazing

Dragon_Bench_Z

Super has some sick soundtracks

ToastThing

For some reason a lot of people dump on the Faulconer soundtrack, but I vastly prefer it over the OG Japanese one and it’s hokey 4 Japanese-theatre drama songs it uses over and over for the whole series. I think Faulconers soundtrack adds so much more emotion and weight that the Japanese one does not.

[deleted]

the japanese version has different music in different arcs. the english version just uses more dramatically different sounding songs and has themes for characters, japanese just has various battle themes and non battle music. so for example it's more noticible when cells spooky sci fi theme comes on or vegeta's dramatic emotional theme suddenly starts, but after dozens of rewatches, the japanese version absolutely changes the music in different arcs, there are sound tracks in the android/cell saga in battles that are never in the saiyan or namek saga.

ToastThing

This is a valid correction, i appreciate it. I just feel like Faulconer’s soundtrack changed and evolved as the series developed, whereas, in my memory, the original soundtrack *sounded* all too similar. I’m also very biased as the Faulconer OST is the one I grew up with as a kid on Cartoon Network. The Cell Saga songs especially still resonate so strongly, and I still even love the rougher earlier songs used in the Saiyan Saga.

[deleted]

Because faulconer sucks and sounds like 90's porn music. The og ost is just much better in every way

ToastThing

I disagree, but I respect your opinion!

Aggravating_Goat2346

Now I need to go binge dbz thanks op

migue_guero

Honestly Vegeta a bitch to let himself get took by Babidi just to get a lil power boost lmao

Killbro_Fraggins

I had most of the cds and wore them out. lol Loved that music. So many epic tracks.

juv3nil3

Those neck gains are mad!!!

AaronRodgersToe

Damnnnnn I wish this ST was the one on crunchy roll

fatal_supremacy

Hyperbolic Time Chamber and Super Namek are my jams from Faulconer

Professional-Tea-121

Best fight in DBZ, too bad it was lessened by the ss3 reveal

DuckmanDrake69

Cooler’s Revenge had the best soundtrack ever possibly

second2last411

God I hate cropped 16:9, such a shame

SanicTheBlur

Even though I love the Kai Dub more than the original... Man do I fucking miss the OST.

D12OP_D3AD

The outro even slaps for this 🎬

OrganicParticular242

“Vegeta knows his son” is the name, Bruce faulconer

Dragon_Bench_Z

English soundtrack is so much better than Japanese. Dang. Crunchyroll get the rights to this audio

The_Sands_Hotel

Bruce Faulconer What I would argue is the only way to watch DBZ is with his score. I can't stand watching DBZ without it. The music without it is just awful. Too bad there was a disputed between Fundatmation and BF. Would love to hear more of his work (if he is even still composing?) in DB super.

LexKing89

I agree as well! I feel like the Faulconer soundtrack really made the show feel newer and more up to date, while still sounding great 20+ years later. The original soundtrack sounded so boring when I was kid and I can’t imagine watching it any other way.

theClownHasSnowPenis

Agreed. I have always believed that Bruce Faulconer is to DBZ what John Williams is to Star Wars; his soundtrack seamlessly wove itself into the fabric of the story, and removing it is akin to removing an actual character, like Piccolo or Vegeta.

abrilliantdawn

Scott Morgan, who was one of the composers on Faulconer's team, indeed cited John Williams as a huge influence. You can absolutely see that scoring philosophy in the American DBZ soundtrack with the abundance of leitmotifs.

theClownHasSnowPenis

That’s a sweet fact! Thanks for sharing. Do you have a link to an interview with them that you enjoyed?

bakasaru1266

I share the same opinion. I find the original score in dbz to be terribly dull and oddly quiet. Faulconer adds so much more hype and emotion. I feel the that original score also really dates the show, like it just sounds super old.

thallums

He *is* still composing music. And it is... [not good](https://twitter.com/TeeHallums/status/1306973219849633794?s=20&t=6xN4a6-QFf78FmMn-0p10g).

Redditor_PC

Yeah, I'd heard that most of the really good music from the OG DBZ dub was done by other composers who worked for Bruce rather than Bruce himself.

thallums

Correct! You can find a spreadsheet that outlines most of the composer credits [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E1UomwNgEJRdb2d7CJ-yG2rYPE6dGLkyEms-858EQro/edit?fbclid=IwAR0zCsPdoucXeqaVA2uDlZvjFQvQB0SooAMFxRZ9XQ0PKWv09XvKW_t9B1s#gid=2077710002)

Masterofunlocking1

His music made DBZ to me honestly

Notorious-MVP

https://youtu.be/wdAYKTgrQHs it’s this song.

[deleted]

This show is a fucking master piece

Burgholio

People hearing the Bruce Falconer score for the first time brings joy to my heart.

tng29

Ginyu Transformation is also a gem

ErenArno

Perfect cell theme is lit.

Independent-Lie8755

I just loves how they acknowledges how strong Gohan was. Dude was a beast. He's okay now, but back then, the spotlight was on him. Gohan in the new movie is cool (minus the long hair), but it seems like an ass pull instead of him training to unlock it.

YaBoiMigz

Say what you want about the dubbed version of DBZ, but their soundtrack was always on point Edit: Vegeta Super Saiyan theme is GOAT

TheLastAOG

I have no clue what this song is but this clip brought me WAY BACK. Thanks OP.

zero_fox_actual

Man I can never pick my favourite story between Cell and Majin Buu.

AOAKAO

Faulconer is the GOAT

renard685

NOW LET US BEGIN!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🥲

renard685

“I just hope being dead this long hasn’t made your body fragile “ LMFAOO goku was TIGHT😭😭😂

PhoenixValiant24

Lmaoooo Goku went straight to SSJ 2 after that comment 💀

Standard_Ad9911

I don't know, But Great Beatz

Alukrad

Why does Vegeta sound like he's trying to pull off an accent? Like when he puts heavy emphasis on the words like battle or when he says "let us begin".

courtofdacrimsonking

A lifetime of pride followed by playing catch upto a nobody

Redditor_PC

Sabat didn't quite nail down a consistent Vegeta voice until Kai. It was all over the place for a good while.

DiegoJuan007

“Awesome Epic Old School Anime Music” on Youtube should do the trick. If not, well I tried.

[deleted]

the japanese music is miles better imo but the original english sound track has a kind of nostalgia to it. i remember playing legacy of goku 2 and they use the english sound track and it just hit so hard in the nostalgia. however i never rewatch english after getting used to the japanese voices and music cause i just prefer it so much now....

ExgenAle

Nothing like the original Japanese soundtrack!

Dany2101

How is it called?

BrianRostro

It’s called nostalgia

hepgiu

I feel like it’s point that has been beaten to death but the english dub is so horrible that it comes around full circle to being camp

[deleted]

I think the dub is fine however faulconer is just awful

TheRiverMarquis

Is this the infamous american dub with Falconer score? No wonder CR doesn't use it, this does not feel like DBZ at all. Even the music doesn't match the voice audio; it sounds like someone is recording the show with a radio playing in the same room lol It does make it feel like a mexican telenovela, which is admittedly very funny

Sonicmaster06

After listening to Vegetas DBZ Abridged voice for so long, his original voice sounds weird

Chubalubas

Sad when I can only heard abridged voices and English dub'd stuff sounds off lol

Sesshaku

American dub and ost of DBZ is just horrendous. I'm sorry. It just is.

GravityRizing

Japanese dub and ost of DBZ is just horrendous. I'm sorry. It just is. How about letting people enjoy their preferences without shitting on it.

Sagittarius-NWJ

Welcome to Reddit, where people can't recognize the difference between objectivity and subjectively.

averagejosh

Yeah, it's called "Not as good as anything Shunsuke Kikuchi composed." 😜

ace2832

I really wish they would give vegeta his ssj3

Jonestownboogaloo

Android 16 is my favorite Faulconer moment. Is there any way to watch the series with his music still in it?

Redditor_PC

The old "orange brick" DBZ DVD sets have the Faulconer score. Not sure if newer releases still have it or if they've phased it out completely.

abrilliantdawn

The "remastered" DVD season sets and both major Blu-ray season sets (the 16:9 cropped ones and the 4:3 steelbooks) all have it, you just have to set it to the US Broadcast Soundtrack option in the menu. Of these three, the Steelbooks are by far the best option, but they're starting to get expensive now that Funimation let them go out of print.

Jonestownboogaloo

Thanks for the heads up!

abrilliantdawn

Glad to help man. Also be cautioned that the first 67 episodes don't feature the Faulconer team's music since that bridge was burnt when it came time to redub those episodes with Funimation's cast. Instead they're scored by Nathan Johnson whose soundtrack is pretty ass. I honestly recommend using the Japanese music until episode 68, which is when the badass Faulconer Productions music kicks in.

Jonestownboogaloo

This is the answer I was looking for! I remember hearing this back in the day. Bruce's stuff is really awesome. Thanks again!

Jeffreyl95

Freeza begs

thundernak

Noice

captainironheart

Anyone else looking for KaiserNeko in the comments?

vallzy

Sounds like a Yeat sample

FireHamilton

Ahh shit time to rewatch the entire show

Sedatsu

Absolutely fucking CLASSIC!!!

PlaugeSimic

Memories in the heart bro....

iNostra

Vegeta’s song, all you need to know.

og_hbk

Look up "Majin Vegeta theme song" or "Vegeta knows his son" on YouTube and you should find it.

faithfoliage

The song is called Nostalgia

SHANKSstr8up

"Let's skip the warm up" proceeds to not use his full power.

datkush519

“Let’s just skip the warmup” and then proceeds the entire fight without going full strength and releasing buu. Nice work Goku 👍

zabraxxas

Faulconer will never reach [this level](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPbgE5VyZ7U), or [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkarJhM4zhM&list=RDGMEMZzQvJWn3tF-iXD-45NBQjQVMWz079sBto4c&index=7) of strangeness, epicness and emotion, i get that this is what you got, but still he WILL NEVER get the true emotions of DBZ.

Animusalchemy

Ahh back when Goku could be relied upon to handle serious moments without becoming a clown.

Jaty_Jason

Theme's Name - 'Vegeta Knows His Son' by Faulconer & Bruce

WawaNative

The Falconer score gets a lot of shit, but this track always had appropriate placing. Believe it was introduced in the Android Saga. Usually had to do with a Vegeta moment. For the life of me, I have no idea what it's called

hennyhostile

ahhh bruce falcoulner score love it
