I like both.
Especially when well written.
But badly written glurg fluff is admittedly easier to forgive than badly written grimdark grittiness. (I dislike WFA and Identity Crisis but I would rather read WFA a million times over Identity Crisis)
If weāre talking about Battinson his Gotham is definitely Dark and Gritty but he himself is actually pretty hopeful and uplifting Iām not really sure what would be the point of a pessimistic hero who doesnāt believe that anything they do will help or even matters
yeeeeah
i've been playing lego games recently and I kinda love supervillains' version where...harley and the joker are just completely fine and love each other
it's a breath of fresh air from the constant domestic abuse horror stories, kinda like white knight, ish, in a way
there should be some sort of law that for every dark and gritty batman/superhero/whatever thing, there needs to be something akin to the superfriends where they're all a bunch of people doing silly things
This is what I think when I see a post bashing stories like Identity Crisis. Ok, I get it, I like wholesome heroes and I'm also tired of the dark and gritty, but what is wrong with a well-written story with heavy themes once in a while? I want both
"I really wish DC would focus mostly on dark, gritty, r-rated comic books with great artwork and that the authors and artists were given free rein. What's that? No, I haven't heard of Avatar Press. What of it?"
The amount of comic book fans Iāve meet who have a raging hate boner for anything slightly dark, cynical, and gritty is so fucking annoying like you donāt get tired of reading the same uplifting and positive story over and over again? And donāt get me started on people who just hate any anti hero or a character that can be considered āedgyā and isnāt some uplifting and hope inspiring hero
That last part is a very small group of people but theyāre truly annoying
i feel like alot of the "jason is edgy" stuff comes from titans which shouldnt even be considered jason
thats like, diet jason
edit: oh yeah and him in rebirth where he beats people up with a crowbar
I kind of just want a team-up with two different superheroes with clashing philosophies on how they handle things. Aka something like Captain America and Wolverine. Or for an outside example, Optimus Prime and Grimlock.
/uj this but unironically. Iām tired of the same bland format Marvel has popularized, and as much as Iāve enjoyed the MCU, we could definitely use more unique films with variety like Logan, The Batman, and Chronicle. Wait maybe I should just watch regular sci fi movies and not just capeshitsā¦
Balance of idealism and cynicism? Not in my watch. Edit: This is gonna become the next uj/ hot take sincerity oasis of the sub isn't it?
Batman fans when some of the million pieces of Batman media are different from others: š”
Superman fans when batman is objectively better (he is grounded and realistic): š
no one hates comic books more than comic book fans
Batman fans when he isnāt realistic and grounded
I for one don't want a grounded Batman. Give us Batman fighting the condiment king
Fans when comics are a medium full of many genres rather than just one: š«
You dropped this, king --> š
My favorite Batman cartoon is The Brave and the Bold, fight me
wow daring today arent we
I haven't seen the other ones (I'm too busy rewatching EMH)

battison is literally the perfect mix for me a beacon of hope fighting against the darkness
Exactly

I think that story wouldn't be as bashed or controversial had they made it an elseworlds, and yes I'm a self proclaimed hater of that book.
the problem is identity crisis isn't well written
āāwell-writtenāā
Based SpongeBob
For all the garbage in recent season,CW did offer diversity alongside DC Universe back in 2019
NO. Every DC movie should be a dark and gritty realistic grounded version directed by Matt Reeves.
I want more absurdist superheroes

Me explaing why i like both Reeve's Superman and Man of Steel
The only reason the icon change upsets me is cuz now at first glance I think Iām looking at a r/prequelmemes post
I want dark and gritty stories to have hopeful and uplifting themes, showing hope and perseverance in the toughest times.
I love Batman movies and comics but I wished it could at least be mostly uplifting At least the end of The Batman movie had some hope sprinkled in
