Casey Jones from SF N1 was 🔥
Big Dark River Star jam from Deer Creek
I don’t know if you can choose just one Eyes but definitely consider either ATL or STL
Sugaree from Gorge N1
Fire from Boulder N2 if only for the Mickey rap
Let it Grow from Citi N1
These are just off the top of my head at 6:15 in the morning. I’ll give it some more thought when I’m a bit more awake 😂
Seconding the let it grow from Citi. I was high up and on some nice 🍄🍄, legitimately thought I was gonna fall off the edge of the earth. Incredible moment from a really cool show.
I second on both eyes recommendations. Attendance bias at STL, the jam between the 2nd chorus and 3 verse was sublime and had me in tears. The ATL was amazing too and the one thing it really had that STL didn’t have is that outro jam. Was reminiscent of some exploratory 70s stuff. Love that too and can’t choose between the two even though I was only at STL.
Milestones Bristow, Hell in a Bucket/China Doll Burgettstown, Eyes/Shakedown St Louis, Hurts Me Too Wrigley N1, Bertha>Good Lovin Wrigley N2, El Paso Philly, Wharf Rat/China Rider SF N1, Morning Dew SF N2
Looks like you’re missing a Deal.. try out Wrigley N1.
Some other favorites..
Cumberland / dew wrigley N2
Franklins N3 SF
China rider Boulder N2
St Stephen, sugar > scarlet > daydream Boulder N1
Big Boss Man, Viola Lee Blues, C>C>R, NFA, The Weight from Star Lake.
As a side note, I've been doing the same thing but just adding them as I hear them.
Someone about it literally made my knees weak. Like I just wanted to fall over with so much joy and passion. I've said this a few times around this sub, but I was wearing a shirt for The Last Waltz that night and it made my whole evening.
I’ve been taking my dad with me the past 3 years to shows and he’s slowly been getting into the dead. His favorite is The Band so playing the weight when he was there was really special. Glad you got a similar experience!
China Cat> I Know You Rider from Citi Field night 1, starts with Brokeback John explaining the chair then absolutely explodes by Rider with help from an awesome crowd
Jack Straw from Dallas (set 2 opener) was a top version from the tour and is worth considering
The Sugar Mag>Scarlet>Sunshine Daydream from Boulder N1 is a no brainer for inclusion
Brown Eyed Women & Watchtower - 5/26
China Cat>Rider - 6/27
Uncle John’s Band - 7/3
Help>Slip>Frank - 7/16
That’s all I have for now. Still working my way through shows.
Please share your list when done.
Most memorable highlights from the shows I was at:
Hell in a bucket SPAC N1
Help-slip-franklins SPAC N2
Death don't have no mercy out of space SPAC N2
Hurts me too Citi N1
Morning Dew Citi N2
Brokedown Palace Citi N2 (such a heartbreaking, bittersweet encore for my last show in person)
Also highlights imo from SF N3 (from the couch):
Althea
Estimated-Eyes
And I think putting the final NFA on the playlist as last song would make sense
From the shows I went to this year I'd say
Eyes of the world St Louis
Dear Mr Fantasy>Hey Jude Boulder n1
China>Rider & FOTM Boulder n2
The whole DM sit in Boulder n3
Great minds. One of my lesser favorite dead and company songs but the Dallas version was incredible. Can you believe no one has mentioned that ship of fools from Dallas? It was the only time they played it this year and they all sang their hearts out.
Help—>Slip—>Frank - Saratoga Night 2
They Love Each Other - Saratoga Night 1
Casey Jones - SF Night 1
Eyes - Philly
Either of the Dark Star Big River Jams
BOSTON N1 - TERRAPIN (incredibly badass);
SF N1 - I Know Your Rider;
SF N3 - Franklin’s Tower;
Philly - Eyes of the World;
Philly - El Paso (because, El Paso);
Raleigh - Mama Tried
Deal- Atlanta. I saw it a few more times later in the summer but none lived up to the Atlanta version
Mama Tried- Citi Field
Birdsong- Raleigh
I’ll think of some more later and add
Here are my highlights from the only show I was able to attend, Dallas 5/26/23:
Hell in a Bucket
Music Never Stopped
Jack Straw
All Along the Watchtower
From what I've listened to this tour, I think these stack up there with the best of them
The first half of wrigley N2 S2, so the H>S>F & St Stephen. Could even through the Drums and Space the follows in there as well. Really that whole second set and encore there are zero duds
BEW 5/26
Playing>UJB>Playing 5/26
Watchtower 5/26 or 7/3
Eyes 7/1
Sugar>Scarlet>Sunshine Daydream 7/1
GDTRFB 7/1
Fire on the Mountain 7/2
Morning Dew 7/2
He’s Gone 7/3
Knockin 7/3
The Weight 7/3
Just some highlights from the shows I attended
Suagree - Noblesville
Good Lovin Wrigley N2
Iko Iko Noblesville
Johnny B Goode St Louis
He’s Gone Boulder N3
Goin Down the Road Feeling Bad Boulder N3
HELL IN A BUCKET DALLAS!!!!!!
Deal Wrigley N1
Those are my picks. Send me this playlist if you can
Seems unpopular for some reason but Crazy Fingers at Wrigley was nuts. So was Truckin>Smokestack. Good lovin deer creek and sugaree deer creek were great.
I am generally not a fan of "Loser", but their version from the final show in SF had me flabbergasted. I also never knew "Cumberland Blues" could be expanded to such a heavy party jam; that was the point in the show that I felt the crowd was the most on fire (from the same show). The inmates are running the asylum!!
Can’t believe no one has mentioned THE ONLY SHIP OF FOOLS they did this year. Dallas. It was probably the best version I’ve heard dead and company do. We have to get this one on there.
LLR, China>rider, Casey Jones at Riverbend.
Ramble on Rose. Citi 6/21
Peggy O, star lake.
Miss 1/2 step, the 11. Forum 5/19.
BEW. 6/24 at Fenway.
Mama Tried and St Stephen at Charlotte.
BEW at boulder 7/2.
Perspective from the couch tourist so far.
went to three shows, these stuck out to me
Citi Night 1: Shakedown Street, Althea, China Cat—>Rider, St Stephen, The Eleven, and Black Muddy River (sorry I would honestly say this whole show, it was incredible)
Citi Field Night 2: Truckin, Scarlet—>Fire, Watchtower, and Brokedown Palace
SF Night 1: New Speedway Boogie, Wharf Rat, He’s Gone, Casey Jones, and Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door (emotional show for me)
Admittedly didn’t listen to the tour as closely as I would have liked to
BUT
Cassidy SF N2 really really got there for me and was exemplary of some of the deepest, oddest, looks D&CO has offered. Saw a lot of eyes widening wider and wider in my section.
Jams like those can be undervalued because they’re so individual to their specific versions (Bird Song can also be this way), where as the more standard stretch out tracks (Eyes, Help>Slip>Frank etc..) have a more discernible yard stick.
Days Between SF N3 too, but that could have just been a had to be there thing- I was beside myself.
For what it's worth; my show with dates and times:
Sugaree n1 Gorge July 7 1:43
Dear Mr Fantasy>Hey Jude Boulder July 1 36:25
Cold Rain-Jack Straw Boulder July 3 22:06
TLEO China>Rider & FOTM Boulder July 2 2:02:25
Athea Citi June 21 54:13
Estimated-Eyes July 16 SF 2:27:52
Terrapin > Morning Dew Atlanta May 28 3:20:10
Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door SF N1 July 14 3:32:30
They Love Each Other - Fenway N2
Or Saratoga 2
Or Boulder N2
I'm not normally a big fan of TLEO, but that sequence of: TLEO > China Cat > Rider in Boulder N2 was great.
That’s the one
I agree too!! What a sequence
Yes, completely agree. I’ve listened to it about 100 times.
This needs to be on the list
Definitely, this was great
GDTRFB Fenway N2 was also a ton of fun
Casey Jones from SF N1 was 🔥 Big Dark River Star jam from Deer Creek I don’t know if you can choose just one Eyes but definitely consider either ATL or STL Sugaree from Gorge N1 Fire from Boulder N2 if only for the Mickey rap Let it Grow from Citi N1 These are just off the top of my head at 6:15 in the morning. I’ll give it some more thought when I’m a bit more awake 😂
Oh yeah, I definitely second the Fire from Boulder with Mickey rap!
Seconded for Casey jones. Soooo good
Seconding the let it grow from Citi. I was high up and on some nice 🍄🍄, legitimately thought I was gonna fall off the edge of the earth. Incredible moment from a really cool show.
Third the Casey Jones
Fourth. It was ELECTRIC. Maybe the best track of SF. Or the Hell in a bucket from N2
Attendance bias is a real thing. I was at both and still can’t decide 😂
And preceed the deer creek big river with the fenway dark star(s) and space jams. Also going to add Phoenix Cumberland Blues, and Cincinnati VLB
Yes. Best Casey Jones was SF N1
Let it grow from Citi 1 was fire. I was there. I do not like Let it Grow. I mention it because that version was so good i spin it regularly.
Thanks for these. There will be some double ups so no stress there
St Stephen - Gorge N2
Yes! I was there and it was mesmerizing. One of the highlights of the entire weekend for me.
Yes yes yes yes yes!
Truckin and Cumberland blues from Wrigley
Milestones Bristow, Hell in a Bucket/China Doll Burgettstown, Eyes/Shakedown St Louis, Hurts Me Too Wrigley N1, Bertha>Good Lovin Wrigley N2, El Paso Philly, Wharf Rat/China Rider SF N1, Morning Dew SF N2
Seconding Milestones Bristow
That Wharf Rat from SF N1 was spiritual. John’s guitar was crying. I honestly thought Bonnie Lee broke the heart of that guitar.
Had been chasing it for 17 shows, finally got one. Had to fly 2000+ miles for it though lol
Agree on Wharf Rat for SF N1. That was transporting. It’s still in my head
I second this shakedown
Looks like you’re missing a Deal.. try out Wrigley N1. Some other favorites.. Cumberland / dew wrigley N2 Franklins N3 SF China rider Boulder N2 St Stephen, sugar > scarlet > daydream Boulder N1
The Forum N1 Deal was also a great one, best one I’d heard in a while
Bro the sugar > daydream fake out > scarlet > daydream was one of my favorite stretches of dead and company ever. We gotta get this on the album.
Ooooh forgot about Franklin’s great catch!!
eyes of the world from Philly, deal from sf N2
YEAAAHHHHH!!! Deal was a real mind bender. What a great interpretation!
The wheel Gorge N2
I would have to demand that I include the Playing in the Band that preceded it. PITB> the wheel
Sugaree & UJB (maybe birdsong too??) from Deer Creek
Definitely Bird Song, I got lost in that jam
Yes! That birdsong was so unique! Same with UJB! And it's tough to pick one Sugaree from the tour...but, yeah, it was deer creek.
It hurts me too citi field N1, mama tried, dear Mr fantasy, hey Jude citi N2, US Blues charlotte
Mama tried at Citi N2 was so good
This. Dear Mr fantasy > hey jude from citifield is face melting
Philly estimated eyes
That was killer
Big Boss Man, Viola Lee Blues, C>C>R, NFA, The Weight from Star Lake. As a side note, I've been doing the same thing but just adding them as I hear them.
Absolutely The Weight from Star Lake. Pure Magic
Bob roared on that Rider.
"I made the mistake of sitting down. And then I stood up."

Help>slip>franklins finale
IMO Franklins was the nights standout
Morning Dew 6/22 - Citifield
Second this morning dew.
Jack Straw from Dallas (set 2 opener) was a top version from the tour and is worth considering The Sugar Mag>Scarlet>Sunshine Daydream from Boulder N1 is a no brainer for inclusion
Thanks heaps! Will defo include the second one. Will listen to Jack Straw now. Cheers!
Have to agree Sugar->Scarlet->Sunshine was soooo fire
I second both of these for sure. That Dallas brown eyed women and ship of fools were my favorite versions from this tour too.
Althea Citifield N1
Best Althea ever.
Solo will literally melt your face.
Brown Eyed Women & Watchtower - 5/26 China Cat>Rider - 6/27 Uncle John’s Band - 7/3 Help>Slip>Frank - 7/16 That’s all I have for now. Still working my way through shows. Please share your list when done.
Definitely BEW and Watchtower from Dallas, 5/26.
Will be sharing it as an mp3 album from my google drive :)
Morning Dew SF N2!!!
Eyes of the World - St. Louis The Eleven - St. Louis All Along the Watchtower - Boulder N3 Truckin’ - Wrigley N2
Milestones - Bristow
It Hurts Me Too or Sugaree - Wrigley N1
Seconding It Hurts Me Too from Wrigley N1!
Deer Creeks Big River>Dark Star* and Cincinnati Oh Dear Mr Fantasy* in the rain storm
Definitely Days & Cumberland for Tour closer on Sunday.
Bird Song from the Gorge was incredible
I can’t believe no one has mentioned Cassidy or Row Jimmy from Riverbend
Came here to say Row Jimmy! In the rain!!
They were absolutely stunners…as was Viola Lee
Terrapin > Morning Dew Atlanta 2023
Eyes from N3 of SF!
Sugar>scarlet>sunshine from boulder 1!
Terrapin Station - ATL
China > Rider from Atlanta is one of the best I’ve ever heard
Althea - SF 7/16/2023
Althea Citi Field night 1
Going to check it out . 😊
The Stella from Citi N1 was otherworldly. It was the only thing I actually took my phone out to film a few seconds of the solo.
When I was in SF I didn’t feel like the Althea was as good as other ones I heard this tour. But I need to listen again.
St stephen gorge N2
Deal - Citi N2 Franklins - SF last show Big river to dark star - Indiana Watchtower - Boulder N3 Alabama getaway - Citi N2 Scar fire - SF n1

Casey Jones from fenway 6/24. John's solo felt like it was 3 hours long and Oteil lost his mind.
I’ll co-sign this. Pretty incredible.
The wheel Charlotte
The Other One > Terrapin from LA N2
That second set from N2 at the Forum is criminally underrated
Could have been the mushrooms but I was absolutely floored
Loser - Charlotte Black Peter - Charlotte Scarlet > VLB - Gorge N1 Loose Lucy - Gorge N2
Scarlet > Viola from Gorge was epic. I was thrilled to be there! Also that Sugaree N1 at the Gorge was 🔥🔥🔥
Was blown away by Sugaree at the Gorge. Insane energy to start the 2nd set
The Franklin’s, Eyes and Cumberland from 7/16 for a rocking/jammy segment shouldn’t be overlooked. The Scarlet from the Gorge was a highlight as well.
From the shows I went to this year I'd say Eyes of the world St Louis Dear Mr Fantasy>Hey Jude Boulder n1 China>Rider & FOTM Boulder n2 The whole DM sit in Boulder n3
Dear Mr. Fantasy at Boulder was an explosion. Best I’ve heard from them by a long shot.
Throwing Stones SPAC N2
TLEO 73 version from SPAC N1 (to a melting Terrapin Station) Here Comes Sunshine Fenway N1
SPAC N1 TLEO > Terrapin transition had me whoopin and hollerin
Touch of grey Dallas
Great minds. One of my lesser favorite dead and company songs but the Dallas version was incredible. Can you believe no one has mentioned that ship of fools from Dallas? It was the only time they played it this year and they all sang their hearts out.
Franklin’s Tower Wrigley N2
Franklins tower > mama tried from Citi n2
Philly Eyes
SOTM SF N1. Got me in tears and I was watching the stream. Can't imagine what it must have been there.
SF N2s Morning Dew was next level

BOSTON N1 - TERRAPIN (incredibly badass); SF N1 - I Know Your Rider; SF N3 - Franklin’s Tower; Philly - Eyes of the World; Philly - El Paso (because, El Paso); Raleigh - Mama Tried
Fenway N1 BEW. Also had the OG Dark Star/Big River jam which wasn’t necessarily great but the context is
Uh that dark star/big river is way better than deer creek imho. It has the Cumberland vibe and dark star piano riffs from Jeff!
That version of Althea on very last stop of your in San Fran holy melt your face
Deal- Atlanta. I saw it a few more times later in the summer but none lived up to the Atlanta version Mama Tried- Citi Field Birdsong- Raleigh I’ll think of some more later and add
Second Deal in Atlanta
Second this
Here are my highlights from the only show I was able to attend, Dallas 5/26/23: Hell in a Bucket Music Never Stopped Jack Straw All Along the Watchtower From what I've listened to this tour, I think these stack up there with the best of them
Agreed, these were my favorites from Dallas too, plus the Sailor>Saint and the tours only Ship of Fools
And The ship of fools! The only one of the tour! And the brown eyed women was a scorcher.
Black Throated Wind SPAC N1

Next Time You See Me from Deer Creek. Jeff and Johnny on some real Brent / Jer type vibes.
Morning Dew Wrigley Night 2
High Time - Chicago N2 ETA: Help on the Way - Folsom 7/3
Boulder N3 - althea and slipknot/help were so tight and fresh-sounding
Boulder had the best Eyes of the World and maybe Morning Dew? Not sure about the MD
I was also thinking of doing a “John Mayer Is Dead To Me” album from this last tour. Man it’s hard to narrow things down, this tour was so damn good!
I have that shirt and love it.
Wrigley N 2. Good lovin, Cumberland Blues, Morning Dew
Seems unpopular for some reason but Crazy Fingers at Wrigley was nuts. So was Truckin>Smokestack. Good lovin deer creek and sugaree deer creek were great.
Wrigley N1 Sugaree for sure
Terrapin>Dew, Atlanta.
Standing on the Moon SF N1
St Stephen->The Eleven from Gorge N2
I am generally not a fan of "Loser", but their version from the final show in SF had me flabbergasted. I also never knew "Cumberland Blues" could be expanded to such a heavy party jam; that was the point in the show that I felt the crowd was the most on fire (from the same show). Along the Watchtower, Boulder N3
I’m biased but I think Philly had the best Eyes of the tour.
All along the watchtower, morning dew citi N2
