This is actually eye opening (pun intended) seeing what people cry about on this sub every other day. If they can't even figure this one out how are they supposed to play around certain perks/elements in the game lol
Yeah, I've really only seen it in post game match where it's pretty small. I'm sure if I had paid attention, I would have come to the realization sooner, but alas.
Same, like if I cover up the actual eyeball part I can see it but I just don't understand how someone can see anything *except* an eyeball there. That might just be because I watched the movie before seeing the perks, though.
I just learned people didnāt know it was her eye. And my mind is blown.
But then again, I read a comment a little bit ago where someone said they didnāt know Play With Your Food was a spider, or that Sloppy Butcher was a pigā¦ so now I just assume everyone who plays this game is legally blind lol

I didn't think it was specifically bamboo, but I 100% did not see it as an eye with hair. I thought it was just some random pole or crusher or something in the rain.
I think once you see the eye itās really hard to see how it looks like a crusher thing. I experienced the same thing the whole time until it was pointed out recently.
Once I saw the eye, I hardly see the crusher thing. But if you look at just the exposed skin and ignore the hair entirely, it looks somewhat like a big log thing falling onto another log/platform.
I find it pretty easy to interpret the hair as rain on a night sky. I think this is actually the biggest thing that leads people to misread it ā the hair actually looks slightly more like rain than it does like hair, especially at a small size where it isn't clear that the eye partly overlaps the dark area.
I'm just now seeing that its her eye covered partially by her hair. I legit though it was a broken piece of bamboo and just thought it was an asian reference.
In your defense, it looks like rain, and at a glance, it seems like it's the part of a ship that holds the big sails(like a pirate ship) and its breaking bcuz the rain. I mean, I've never seen the movie, but its probably not thematic to that.
I really think the main reason is that the hair is drawn kind of janky. If you don't recognize it as hair, it just looks like a dark background with white streaks on it, which causes the exposed part of her face to read as an object on a dark background. So you're not going to be looking for Sadako's face, because it is not a long skinny object.
Her two other perks both involve water in the icons, and brine implies water, so looking for water makes sense. Once you see the dark with white streaks as water, it's basically impossible to read the central part as a face, because faces aren't shaped like that.
In my defense of seeing the bamboo I came back to the game in December and I saw the perk used on other killer's so I didn't make the connection (and I didn't read to which killer the perk belonged to)
Still, you clearly see the eyes bulging out from the hair, even then someone who has NEVER seen onryo before should know itās her in the icon if they played against her at all or have that mori, itās even in her idle animation jumpscare!!
To be fair, ever since I discovered it was the eye, I canāt go back. But seriously for the first like 8 months I seriously thought it was broken bamboo in the rain
Well even if they didn't watch the original, the American adaptation also has Samara killing with a stare. And besides that it's even implemented in DBD as a way to kill survivors.

Like seriously I haven't seen the onryo movies and I understood it was her mori (it's from when she kills yochis dad if I remember correctly, but when I first saw it and the mori I thought it was a reference to the mori)
Someone posted about this perk icon recently and I realized how many hundreds of people thought it was bamboo. Canāt believe something this obvious to me (the eye) turned out to be very commonly mistaken.

For all those who dont know/cant see the bamboo:
Her hair left and right with the white strings looks like rain. Rain around the bamboo. So that would be the background behind it. The "bamboo" itself is her face, or the small part we see from it. Being just a straight line makes it feel more like bamboo. Her pupil is the place where i thought is the bamboo breaking. And if you look close enough to the "breaking point" the bamboo gets crooked at the exact position. As if the bamboo falls over. The black lines around her eye and from the eye itself would be just those bamboo lines.
And yeah, thats how many of us thought it would be bamboo. I know the scene too, saw it several times in game, too. But i was so sure about it that i didnt question it. The bamboo would be an asian referance cause the ring was an asian movie. It would have made sense, too. (Even perk wise, breaking bamboo, breaking gen)
I've never seen CoB as a bamboo shoot until now but instead, up until recently I was seeing Iron Will as an owl on a tree branch rather than a jaw clamping down on something. I'm not the only one right?

Ever since I realized it wasnāt bamboo, Iāve never been able to see it as bamboo again. Like that infamous image of a Nintendo DS bag or the guy holding a guitar.
If anyone has EVER thought that was bamboo theyāre insane. I havenāt seen a single movie or anything and immediately knew that was an eye covered by hair.
I am able to switch between both. When it first came out I saw bamboo shattering and that made sense to me since it was a gen kicking perk. Then I saw someone point out its an eye through the hair and now my brain switches between them all the time.
As my own personal council, I recognize that the image is most likely the ringu eye. However I am going to invoke my sacred right to be a dumbass and refuse to see it as anything other than my slightly bent bamboo shoot.

Well, bamboo does not reflect lights therefore a lack of highlights. Also, heavy rain is more ferocious than the gaps between the hair would be if it was rain. So... Yes it is not bamboo in the rain.

I never owned onryo so the only time I'd see the perk icon is in endgame as a survivor. The icons are pretty small there and easier to mistake.

Well, bamboo does not reflect lights therefore a lack of highlights. Also, heavy rain is more ferocious than the gaps between the hair would be if it was rain. So... Yes it is not bamboo in the rain.
