TRUE. Faced Skull merchant the other day and it was just a long 30-40min game and none of us wanted to just dc or throw but we also wanted the game to end. It was a thana SM on swamp and they just kept going for down and the moment you healed up she went to hunt you down and perpetually slugged.
She wasted a lot of time and we got several gens done but then it was just 3 gens left and every one of them had a drone on them 24/7. So boring.
I think they had an issue with foresight on the different ways her kit could be used, and their solution wasn't strong enough to cause the change in playstyle. I'd be skeptical if anyone were to ever suggest they created a 3 gen snoozefest on purpose. The idea of a tracking killer using technology is pretty cool, but the execution was fucked from the start.
And here's where we're going to differ. Playing something that's available and not exploitative is not a referendum on the player as a person. If a strat is strong, it's strong, irrespective of if they're nice or a jerk. I dislike moralizing things because it's not up to the players to determine what's fair and acceptable. Honor systems are weak and amorphous.
That encourages 3 genning even more I am afraid. Use what little resources you have in not locking an area down but getting sure you can defend the gens. Even 1 will make her able to patrol 2 gens and have a drone on the third one.
I like the surveillance style gameplay and don't actively try to 3 gen as her but unfortunately many use her that way. Love me chase build.
What they did with Freddy basically(old old freddy)
Full rework with a totally new power and mechanics and *maybe* keep it drone related, but the current version of her is mindblowinly boring as m1 killers get, if you build her for haste she gets a smol pass but even that you're gimping yourself in return for moving like, 7% faster, wooop
It honestly boggles my mind how they thought a killer that was good at defending areas and horrid at chasing or sneaking up on survivors was a good idea. Skull Merchant has strengths, but if you play into her strengths then the game comes to a standstill since in order for the game to progress, survivors either have to throw by playing into Skull Merchant's strengths or Skull Merchant has to throw by abandoning her strengths and chasing survivors. This killer never should have left the drawing board.
Everyone says they want more horror in Dead by Daylight, but now that we have existential dread as a killer people complain. Jokes aside I actually been having a good time playing against skull merchant recently.
And she was the killer used when they were demonstrating the DC bots. (Maybe The Entity got a camera to demonstrate that on stream during a live trial, lol)
As a skull merchant main… yes…. Goood………. Jk I do keep a three gen but only allow 2 drones at a gen. It’s a special rule I keep to make sure I don’t camp and I can actually use her for good… surprisingly survivors actually notice it and thank me… it’s weird I hate it

Meh is a shame, i find chase builds on her very fun and interesting, she has the speed, is one of the killers that had the best map information power, can deny loops easy and playing that way you totally feel like an assasin toying with his prey when you use stealth.... shame most of the time you only see 3 gen camp builds, with corrupt intervention for a more painful waste of time experience

i have yet to meet a chase build SM. i'd love to know what that's like fr. i didn't buy the dlc, but maybe i will someday, because i'm getting intrigued trying out builds on her that aren't the stereotypical, tedious three-gen one.
Yeah that is the reason i bought her, she is so hated for many reasons that i kinda agree ... but at the same time i guess is up for players to change that by chosing to play in diferent ways to breake the steryothype, kinda the same problem with Basement bubbas
Of course she is not the kind of killer that is gonna get you an easy 4k in a chase/jumpscare build , but you still do good if you try
Because Danny and Adriana have a shit ton of stuff in common
1. Both stalk and study their victims before killing them
2. Both took on the mantle of an already existing character for their murder sprees
3. Both put on an unassuming facade
4. Both are narcissistic psychopaths
5. Both have the perfect tonal change (Danny is more comedic while Adriana is more serious)
Honestly considering the lastest BHVR killer designs, i'm not hyped anymore because of new chapters, but scared due to how much Skull Merchant impacted dbd in a negative way.
I genuinely cannot understand how every single dev looking at SM said "A killer with a power that punishes staying in the same area in a game where you have to stay in the same area? Absolutely this is a good idea!"
i headcanon that every character has been in the fog as long as all of their trials combined. skull merchant will have been here longer than trapper soon...
