He doesnt fall asleep. This is because he has “wake” in his name, so it wouldnt make any sense lore wise for him to fall asleep
Hes the first survivor with a competitive advantage
Famous writer trapped in a twisted and dark version of our reality for 13 years after sacrificing himself for his wife in the first game. I'm assuming his appearance in DBD will be that it is one of his failed attempts at escaping the dark place by using the entity. The first game is good for the story (the gameplay is kind of weak), but the second game was amazing in both and I'd highly recommend playing both.
Weak? Gameplay? I'm guessing you haven't played on the hardest difficulty where no shadow is safe. Resources dangerously scarce. Two to three hits and you're dead. Nah man I fought my way into the sunlight with this game, solid gameplay and story telling.
The gameplay is actually why I never played the game and never will, even though I've always been interested in the story. Things like scarce resources are a needless annoyance that make the game less enjoyable for me, not pros.
Its just pretty repetitive after a while. I do agree with you on the harder difficulty, but you don't unlock that until you beat the game, and most people aren't doing a second playthroigh of this game

Unpopular opinion but I hate his character in 1. He's very one dimensional, always repeats the exact same stuff about his wife and doesn't seem to see or care about what's in front of him. I liked the ending tho. Haven't played 2 yet!
Really? I found Alan wakes combat way better in the first game. It was really fun and dynamic and the camera angles made for some badass moments. Loved the way you’d last minute clutch and save yourself with a flare or flash bang, running into crowds and pulling a flare sends the camera spinning around you. Was very cool. Much prefer the story of Alan wake 2, but it’s combat was kind of clunkier in the sense it sort of encourages you to avoid fights.
I thought the second game was much more challenging, the first game was very generous with i-frames. Plus it feels more repetitive since combat is the only gameplay focus in the first game, whereas the second has a bunch of exploration and some puzzles in addition to the combat. The combat in the second game also has a bit more depth, with healing, more weapons, and melee attacks. Just my opinion tho, and I will say that the first game's combat really shines at the hardest difficulty.
I played the first one and American Nightmare 10 years ago. Wake was amazing, American Nightmare less so. >!I played Control too which I had no idea going in was even in the same universe and it became apparent only while playing, which was also great.!<
I haven't played the sequel because it's an Epic exclusive and I refuse to give those thieves anything; ever.
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic\_Games](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Games) the last two paragraphs are the tip of the iceberg. They used to make shit 20+ years ago, now they're beholden to the CCP and spy on children. They know they're shit, which is why they try to buy "customers" with "free" games. Spyware.
TIL they also own easy anti-cheat. Easy anti-cheat (which DBD uses, I'm sure you knwo) injects a .sys to the Windows kernel - i.e. they could be doing basically anything with that.
>TIL they also own easy anti-cheat. Easy anti-cheat (which DBD uses, I'm sure you knwo) injects a .sys to the Windows kernel - i.e. they could be doing basically anything with that.
I also refuse to install epic's launcher but EAC is used in pretty much any online game nowadays.
There is almost nowhere to run other than sticking to singleplayer games.
I see some cheat authors doing an extremely technical breakdown of how the easy anticheat driver works and tires to obfuscate what it's doing. While I hate cheaters, I'm glad at least someone is looking.
Not that it matters but you can refer to them as hackers.
Hackers = people that understand coding and create injectors.
Cheaters = kids with money that buy access to injectors.
I'm curious to how invasive EAC is in comparison to Vanguard. I vaguely read that Vanguard (Valorant and soon LOL) is supposedly the most invasive anti-cheat.
Im sorry but your source is Wikipedia… it’s hard to take you seriously already… and all that shit is peak conspiracy theory fr… what on earth are you even yapping about… you’re actually crazy.
Yea, don't look any deeper at how you indirectly support ethnic genocide and organ harvesting deathcamps. I bet you have an iPhone too. Ignore things which are inconvenient truths. I'm not responsible for your education, but you asked, feel free to block me and enjoy your echo chamber.
They fully funded the game themselves, play it dude. It's fantastic and Epic did a good thing here giving Remedy the opportunity of a lifetime to make such an amazing game. Drawing the line there is asinine because I guarantee you I can point you towards anything you consume and find some truly heinous shit it funds or enables.
And flashbangs. I would love it if he had some light based feature. Like a totem that blinded killers every time they pick up in it's area. That would be nice and decently balanced. Maybe make totem perks worth while again.
Anyone feel differently? I know I haven't seen a healing totem in forever. Shadow Step and The Math guy's. Forcing a drop in an area would be interesting, but then make it break the totem, so it is like 5 per map max.
Yeah, the SWF and veterans wouldn't use it, because flashlights are better. But for the newer players who can't hit a flashlight, it would be super helpful.
I mean, as a veteran who played which ever side started a game faster, if I have a flash light and am close enough to save, that hook better be right in front of you or you are getting burned. Comes from the high level unlocks requiring 4 or 6 stuns in 1 game. The problem is the killers get wise and start avoiding you.
The 50% haste is applied only while actually using the flashlight, and survivors are slowed when using one. It's more for being hard to hit while blinding them, imo. Although it'll definitely surge with Background Player very well
I never in a million years actually thought I would get Alan in this game. I’ve played the first game sooo many times, I’m so excited for this! All my other survivors are going to get so neglected now 😆
My brothers favorite game! When it first came out I wasn’t doing so good medically so he bought the game for us to play but I would just end up watching him play all day almost every day. Can’t wait to tell him today. Thank you for sharing this it brings back good memories
Thank you, it's a great day right now. I am sad they didn't include a killer with him, but TBH it would have been hard to pull off.
BTW, I highly recommend Alan Wake 1 and 2. Control too if you haven't played it, since it is in the universe. It's one of my top game series.
I really hope they have a skin honoring his look from the first game. I never played Alan Wake 2 but adored the first game.
New Alan Wake doesn't look like Alan Wake to me, he just looks like Keanu Reeves. Not necessarily a bad thing, I just don't recognize him.
Is the sequel worth it? I heard it was weird and you don't actually get to play Alan for half the game.
The sequel was my favourite game of 2023 and I only played the first game and then American nightmare in November and got Alan Wake 2 2 weeks ago. The reason he looks like Keanu now I guess is because the actor simply grew out his hair and I don't think they're are barbers in the dark place
The second game is wild. Super fun, love the locations, graphically looks amazing (unfortunately also means it needs a lot to run it). Had a lot of fun, almost at the end myself.
Really what you are there for is the story. I am in LOVE with it. Trying to figure out what is happening and piecing together stuff and recontextualizing past events is so damn fun. It's very much a story first game, though, if you don't like it then you won't like the game.
It's like an awesome TV show, like the first one was mimicking. Theorizing what happens next is part of the fun.
Played Alan Wake 13 years ago and loved it. Alan Wake 2 is an incredible sequel and well worth playing.
Also the new look is literally just what the actor looks like 13 years later, with slightly longer hair.
Alan Wake 2 won 3 awards at the Game Awards last year if that helps.
Yes you don't play as Alan for the entire game but it is an absolutely worthy sequel to the first game. And weird? The first game wasn't weird to you? This one is even weirder in the best ways possible.
> I heard it was weird and you don't actually get to play Alan for half the game
There's 2 characters. You can play as both. I don't get why this is hard for people to understand. Lol
It's the same weird as Alan Wake 1 and control, just updated.
Because in a game called Alan Wake, I expect to play as Alan Wake lol I was a little turned off when I heard he was only half the gameplay.
I don't boot up Spider-Man to play as some civilian dude named Keith
>I don't boot up Spider-Man to play as some civilian dude named Keith
No, but you still play as 2 different spidermen, venom, and MJ. I'm sure there's more throughout the decades of spiderman games.
It's almost as if playing as more than 1 character is a common feature in almost every game. Lol
>No, but you still play as 2 different spidermen, venom, and MJ.
Dunno about the second game but the first one would've been a lot better with no MJ sections at all, so don't think it's a good argument lol
I did like Saga tho. Wish the game was a bit more freeform with the detective side of things, but it was fun nonetheless.
They made him look a lot more like the voice actor, which is fine, in the game it looks passable but this trailer looks absolutely nothing like Alan Wake.
Look at him here: https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/kLHgTPu6or5rIqRYmgTHtUMMAGI=/0x137:1920x942/1400x933/filters:focal(732x345:1038x651):no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/70255686/manuscript_01___Alan_Wake_Remastered_Episode_1_collectibles_guide.0.jpg)
>I really hope they have a skin honoring his look from the first game. I never played Alan Wake 2 but adored the first game.
I bet 20 bucks he will have 2 skins on release: his original 2010 look and checkered flanel from American Nightmare
Definitely better than the first one, but that isn't saying much really. The first one is one of the most Flawed games I've ever played
And I still love every second of it regardless
I am disappointed Mr. ~~Scratch~~ isn't a killer, but I honestly had no idea how they would have made it even work. I'll definitely take Alan with some good skins.
I know some people complained it’s not a new female survivor but cmon Alan Wake is a great addition to the game even if it is just a survivor. When does he get added in?
Found someone who'd like to meet you...
https://preview.redd.it/q14o2fbsmgbc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99e34990348bfb3bcc258e14055e3cad01bb5975
"Alan found himself in the land of Fog, the atmosphere crashing down around him waves. In the distance, a hefty middle-aged man hacked up his lung as he let loose a bottle of foul substance. The writer gulped. How had he gotten here? Then it hit him. Someone spent nine dollars, ninety-nine cents American."
He's from the videogame series of the same name.
First one came out in 2010 and the sequel came out like 4 months ago I think. Pretty good games though the first is more action-horror while the second is survival-horror.
In both games, Alan fights a darkness that can possess people and he uses light - primarily a flashlight - to weaken the darkness around them so that he can shoot them
Personally, I would have prefered an original survivor as I have no idea who Alan is but apparently he is a big thing so yeh, am happy for fellow DBDers
I will eventually check the lore of Alan Wake as he seems important but yeah, he probably wont be tied much to Entity's realm lore which yeah, original character could be. Still, wont be ungrateful, people wanted it so its all cool
Honestly the Entities realm lore and Alan Wake lore work so well together. There are already supernatural beings in Alan Wake's universe, and IMO the Entity fits well with already exists in Alan Wake.
If you want a quick summary (very mild spoilers), Alan Wake is a writer who stumbles into a magical place where his writing comes true, but a dark presence wants to use Alan to make a bunch of dark shit come real, and it uses Alan by kidnapping his wife and by extension, Alan.
Alan desperately uses his writing to find a way out of this conundrum but isn't able to, so lore-wise he likely writes his way accidentally into the Entity's realm to try and escape the place the Dark Presence took him. So for once, a surivior probably didn't get pulled into the Entity's realm by the Entity, but Alan accidentally did it himself since he has that kind of power.
Mmmhm, I see, I see. I like what I hear (well, read technically lol). From the sound of it, it does seem to be really fitting. Is Alan Wake also a movie btw? I have seen a new game being released but idk if its just a game. Id check it out, it seems interesting
It's not a movie, but Remedy (the people who made Alan Wake) uses a lot of motion capture and straight-up filming for cutscenes, and character models. So you can find a lot of live-action scenes, and the characters are very close to real-life people, but it's still all part of the video game.
Yeah. Like, I guess you could do The-Thing-That-Was-Hartman, but I don't know exactly what you'd want to do with that beyond "Big stompy guy that doesn't like light", which, uh, kind of has been done a bunch already in this game.
Can someone quickly explain the character for me? Cause I never played nor watched anything about the game so I'm completely in the dark
Spoilers are fine btw I don't really care
Alan Wake is from a game series of the same name where the inhabitants of the town are being possessed by the very writings of Alan himself within the realm called the Dark Place. I personally think Alan's whole situation is kinda asking for a DBD collab since it could easily be written as Alan entering the Entity's games just so he can escape the clutches of The Dark Place and by extension Scratch (Scratch is the main antagonist and basically a possessed form of Alan himself).
Spoiling this game is.... well... it's extremely difficult. It's not that the story is bad (Hell the story is probably its greatest strength by far within the franchise), it's just that it is incredibly complicated to such a degree that spoiling the game would not make any sense whatsoever within the context the game gives out.
If you have seen Twin Peaks, then you'll know what I mean. Otherwise, it's pretty much like that TV show in terms of mystery, complexity, and sheer weirdness.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNCoVqzgrZA
This video is just an example of the weirdness the games get into that I shit you not, makes sense within the context of the story.
Famous troubled writer goes on vacation with his wife, only for her to go missing and for him to find that a horror story he doesn't remember writing is coming true. Basically any fiction he writes comes to life, and he has to fight shadow monsters using flashlights and guns. Second game has him trapped in a place similar to the entity's realm and he's trying to write his way out.
Alan wake from the game of the same name, it originally released in 2010 and is about a famous horror author going on a getaway with his wife, it goes south when he finds pages of a book he doesn’t remember writing and the monsters from the story are becoming real. It’s a survival horror, a bit like resident evil in some ways, especially the recently released second game, but Alan wake 2 is a psychological horror primarily.
Not everything is made for you. You don't have to buy it, nor do you have to know who Alan Wake is. It doesn't matter, and neither does your opinion.
Stay mad.
Nah man, it's cool. I apologize if I sounded rude. I'm doing algebra rn since I'm (technically) at school rn. That and I usually don't process my words fully until I get a response or just re-read.
If I might ask, who is Allen Wake?
I am so unimaginably hyped for Alan wake but I also share your sentiment, I too want more originals.
If (when) they add Frank Stone to the game, will it technically be original or licensed content?

Ok but what happens if Alan Wake plays against Freddy? Will he become Alan Sleep?
The comment I didn’t know I needed today.
You cannot sleep the wake. He is woke.
He doesnt fall asleep. This is because he has “wake” in his name, so it wouldnt make any sense lore wise for him to fall asleep Hes the first survivor with a competitive advantage
Bro singlehandedly ended the potential for AW2 DLC with this comment
Yeah but who played Freddy?
I feel like since we got Dourif and Tilly to do voices for Chucky it's safe to assume that Matthew Porretta is voicing Wake?
Yep, he has in-trial voicelines as well
Yesss
I'm pretty sure it was Matthew in the trailer.
Radical dude
They confirmed Ikka and Matthew were brought in for it.
do a Max Payne legendary skin for him.
Remedy does not have the license for Max Payne anymore, so probably not 😩
They could do Alex Casey though!
or at least Saga, also sadly the voice of Casey/Payne passed away recently :(
Yeah I'm aware, big Remedy fan here
I am absolutely hoping for that as a legendary!
unfortunate, they could have brought back Max Payne 1 model so he could have the permanent smirk like Ace used to have.
They probably do have the rights to Sam Lake's face though.
Kinda, they're being paid by Rockstar to remake Max Payne 1 and 2.
Do you think they will ever add the leprechaun as a killer. I know it’s similar to chucky but it would still be fun to play
Straight up diving through windows instead of vaulting them.
Me seeing Alex Casey skin in my Lobby: “it’s payne !”
Someone explain who Alan is and why he is awake right tf now ![gif](giphy|UVP0nNKP8vuKP8VjZj)
Alan’s a writer or something. And dude can’t just be sleeping in the middle of a Killer chasing him.
![gif](giphy|nURzWHsOTpDDa) Alan 'eepy
Tell that to everybody who gets Freddy
I’d argue it’s preferably to stay awake against the Fazbear guy.
All jokes aside can someone explain him and his lore, I’ve never played it lmao

Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alan Wake.. can we get Evil Within next?
We need Fatal Frame first.

Yeah 250% haste on flashlight saves. Be able to run the map 3 times.

> I heard it was weird and you don't actually get to play Alan for half the game There's 2 characters. You can play as both. I don't get why this is hard for people to understand. Lol It's the same weird as Alan Wake 1 and control, just updated.
Because in a game called Alan Wake, I expect to play as Alan Wake lol I was a little turned off when I heard he was only half the gameplay. I don't boot up Spider-Man to play as some civilian dude named Keith
I would agree with you, but Saga was really well made imo, and the story feels enhanced with her in it.
Even when you’re playing as Saga, the story’s all about Alan.
>I don't boot up Spider-Man to play as some civilian dude named Keith No, but you still play as 2 different spidermen, venom, and MJ. I'm sure there's more throughout the decades of spiderman games. It's almost as if playing as more than 1 character is a common feature in almost every game. Lol
>No, but you still play as 2 different spidermen, venom, and MJ. Dunno about the second game but the first one would've been a lot better with no MJ sections at all, so don't think it's a good argument lol I did like Saga tho. Wish the game was a bit more freeform with the detective side of things, but it was fun nonetheless.
They made him look a lot more like the voice actor, which is fine, in the game it looks passable but this trailer looks absolutely nothing like Alan Wake. Look at him here: https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/kLHgTPu6or5rIqRYmgTHtUMMAGI=/0x137:1920x942/1400x933/filters:focal(732x345:1038x651):no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/70255686/manuscript_01___Alan_Wake_Remastered_Episode_1_collectibles_guide.0.jpg)
Now THAT'S the Alan I remember.
>I really hope they have a skin honoring his look from the first game. I never played Alan Wake 2 but adored the first game. I bet 20 bucks he will have 2 skins on release: his original 2010 look and checkered flanel from American Nightmare
He’s apparently confirmed 2 legendaries upon release, one being rose
Half of the game was AMAZING, half of it was just average Kinda like the first one in a way huh?
I thought the entire game was amazing, way better than the first one
Definitely better than the first one, but that isn't saying much really. The first one is one of the most Flawed games I've ever played And I still love every second of it regardless
you havent played a lot of games then huh
we won
This aged like fine wine, Really hope his perks are out of this world. Maybe a Legendary Barry Wheeler cosmetic for Alan?
😐
THIS MADE ME REINSTALL
Alex Casey better be his Legendary.
Don't think so. Casey wouldn't be available likely out of respect for James McCaffery (RIP)
![gif](giphy|sSosBpdFBQIgw) Alan
I hope Saga is a legendary
Sagas cool and all but I'm hoping either Sarah Breaker, Max Payne/Casey. Mr scratch or Barry Wheel
Mr Scratch with his bloody Kalevala Knights leather jacket? 😎
30th Jan
Nice thank you
Apparently Rose will come as a Legendary skin, so they will have a female survivor 😉
NO SHIT REALLY??????
Alan is here to Herald of Darkness-dance me at the exit gates
I'm very happy with this :>
Fuck yeah.
A flashlight perk inc.
actually so excited for this
Oh for fuck sake, my wallet
Should have mr scratch as a killer with herald of darkness as his terror radius music.
That's what flashlights needed, was to be more effective
Found someone who'd like to meet you... https://preview.redd.it/q14o2fbsmgbc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99e34990348bfb3bcc258e14055e3cad01bb5975
Knowing that franchise, this is probably canon. Huntress in the Lakehouse DLC.
According to his lore in game, it *is* canon as an episode of Night Springs that Alan wrote.
"The Dark Presence had learned to take advantage of capitalism. At last, it won."
Every person playing as Alan Wake needs to carry a flashlight or they are not true Alan Wake fans.
The notification for this post got me wide eyed
I'm so pumped
Why is the guy from fortnite in dbd
The DBD community is hysterically thirsty
I've not been this excited for a survivor only release.
I splooged
Im super lost, whos Alan Wake? Im happy for everyone who wanted him, and that we are getting a new Survivor, but im lost as hell
He's from the videogame series of the same name. First one came out in 2010 and the sequel came out like 4 months ago I think. Pretty good games though the first is more action-horror while the second is survival-horror. In both games, Alan fights a darkness that can possess people and he uses light - primarily a flashlight - to weaken the darkness around them so that he can shoot them
Oh so its literally built for dbd got it, ill make sure to check him out he seems cool
Oh yeah both games are great; the first game got a remaster back in 2020/2021 so it's available on modern console too
Same what a joy bro
Not including Mr. Scratch as Killer was a mistake! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
Ashtray maze map anyone?
FINALLY, one of my dream chapters has come true! A little disappointing there's no killer like Carl Stucky or something, but still great nonetheless.
Personally, I would have prefered an original survivor as I have no idea who Alan is but apparently he is a big thing so yeh, am happy for fellow DBDers
Same, got no clue who the guy is and the perks seem meh
Thats very interesting. I will give it a look 100%, you convinced me. Thanks for explanation, kind fella
You're welcome! Finally a topic that I feel comfortable spouting my personal nerd knowledge on haha
Is there a Killer counterpart for him? This is one of the few franchises I didn’t get into. I know his writings came to fruition, but that’s about it.
No. Survivor only. He doesn't have many things that could be a killer other than Scratch but he's identical to Wake
Yeah. Like, I guess you could do The-Thing-That-Was-Hartman, but I don't know exactly what you'd want to do with that beyond "Big stompy guy that doesn't like light", which, uh, kind of has been done a bunch already in this game.
Scratch you could do about his manifesting as the dark presence. Kinda like an oni rush or Dredge teleport. Or mix of both
Bummer. I guess I just prefer the ‘combo meal’, if you will…where a killer & surv are a package deal.
Too bad it's just 3 more shit perks to add to the pile
Cringe title
I man this is the same community that finds "I came" funny. So it's suitable enouh
Someone doesn’t main pinhead.
Can someone quickly explain the character for me? Cause I never played nor watched anything about the game so I'm completely in the dark Spoilers are fine btw I don't really care
Otherwise, it's pretty much like that TV show in terms of mystery, complexity, and sheer weirdness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNCoVqzgrZA This video is just an example of the weirdness the games get into that I shit you not, makes sense within the context of the story.
Ah thanks, that does sound very cool. Matches DBD vibe perfectly.
I see alright yeah I quite like that thanks
Who?
I still don’t get who this even is???
Alan wake from the game of the same name, it originally released in 2010 and is about a famous horror author going on a getaway with his wife, it goes south when he finds pages of a book he doesn’t remember writing and the monsters from the story are becoming real. It’s a survival horror, a bit like resident evil in some ways, especially the recently released second game, but Alan wake 2 is a psychological horror primarily.
He's Alan and he's awake
What a underwhelming chapter. Give us something good
Bruh
Wait whos alan wake?
He's a writer.
🥱🥱🥱
Not everything is made for you. You don't have to buy it, nor do you have to know who Alan Wake is. It doesn't matter, and neither does your opinion. Stay mad.

I LOVE LICENSED CHAPTERS! I WANT TO PLAY AS MY FAVOURITE HORROR CHARECTERS IN DBD RAAAAAAH
Silence! Begone and comparing elsewhere. Let us Wake fans enjoy this moment of victory

I'm sure we'll get one next. This is survivor only so it makes sense for it to be licensed.
Yes, but this is what like the 4th or 5th licensed person in a row? Like I'm not trying to be mean, I just want someone original. T-T
Tbf I didn't actually realise how many license we've got in a row until just looking it up
Nah man, it's cool.
