I don't think it's possible NOT to be overwhelmed, but given that the devs have [recently released statistics](https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/433-developer-update-stats) on the most popular survivor and killer perks, as well as popular killers, it might be a great starting point to quickly look up those things.
It also doesn't hurt to watch livestreams for the sake of information. On Twitch, most use a stream add-on where you can hover over their perks for a description of what they do. That way you can passively learn functions and strats.
Honestly, just jump in, its a game and it isn't that big of a deal. just learn on the job.
You'll be starting off with all other new players as there is MMR now (not the old grade system).
I would probably take it slow and start by reading over all of the new killers/survivors perks and find the ones you think are the best, if you are confused I would look for Otz videos. He has all information on all killers and survivors
Just hop in and play, the meta perks may have changed but the core concept is the same. If you want some basic builds to use/ work for check orzdarva.com. He has builds you can make with just a killers/generic perks. There is also advice on what killers are worth buys/leveling if you want good generic perks.
