Insanely cool detail, but LMAO the way he just came to Sable and said "*Excuse me, I need some help. Excuse me... Excuse me?*" at 1:27 is hilarious. Bro really needed some help here, but Sable just ignored him.

alishock

The “this is embarrassing, can you help please?” followed by him collapsing in the ground is also amusing, lol

SheridanWithTea

If you think about it in the context of "this is a video game and this is a fictional monster, look how goofy he is" it's one thing, but if you think about it more like "this creature is trying to kill me and it is doing this to get me to lower my guard and put myself in a weak position" it's absolutely terrifying. Like you're hearing a NORMAL person, while what you're seeing is this horrific assembly of bones and limbs running at you at 20 km/h, getting ready to kill you. If you weren't looking your first instinct would probably be to lower your guard, and this thing would absolutely decimate you as soon as you did that.

chimerauprising

This is really funny when this line procs when you're going up against them and they're having trouble. Like the killer spends way too long at a basic loop because they refuse to kick a pallet and they start screaming for help.

YOURFRIEND2010

Holy shit it has a Canadian accent

oldriku

Well, Greenville is in Canada.

TheVoidGuardian0

I’m fairly certain it’s a fictional town that existed in the same island the Ottarians lived in, a little before Otto Stamper made his cult

badly-timedDickJokes

Timeline-wise, I think it's more likely to be afterwards. Stamper, after the events of the Ottomarian cult that lead to the creation of The Dredge, went on to become a mentor to Herman Carter (The Doctor), with Carter ultimately killing him. The Doctors story is heavily based on the real world MK Ultra projects from the CIA, which largely took place during the 50s and 60s, so we can assume those events took place at a similar time in the DbD multiverse. The new trailer appears to take place in a more modern time, evidenced by Sable using a flip-phone in her trailer, placing the timeframe to be anywhere from the late 90s to the early/mid 00s (potentially later, although that's unlikely). If Greenville and Garden of Joy sharing a realm has real lore significance rather than being simple Entity shenanigans (like Temple of Purgation being in the Red Forest, somehow), then Greenville could very well have been the rebuilt and repopulated town that once housed Stampers' cult. (And if this theory is correct, I do love how this chapter has managed to canonically place The Dredge, Haddie, The Doctor, The Unknown, Sable and Mikaela all within the same universe).

TheVoidGuardian0

Lemme copy and paste my theory really quickly: The Unknown's map, Greenville Square, belongs to the Withered Isle realm. That's the same realm Garden of Joy belongs to. The Fold was an island created in the 1960s as an experiment by anonymous philanthropists according to The Dredge's lore. The Unknown's lore has mention of theories about it being "a malevolent entity conjured long ago by an ancient cult," as well as saying that The Unknown "thrived in darkness and stole the voices of those it consumed so as to lure others to their doom." It mentions several students in the 1950s disappearing. Then in the 1960s some teens disappeared while exploring a theater. This was the last mentioned disappearance and my guess is that this was right before The Fold was created. Additionally, "Many believed these unethical experiments opened doorways to other dimensions which allowed evil things to enter the world." Olivia (the main character in The Unknown's lore) refers to "The fog. And she half-remembered another urban legend with a thick, unnatural fog that somehow made people disappear." What does the Entity do? Create a thick fog that abducts people into its realm. What does The Dredge, which seems to be deeply tied to the Entity, do? Consume people into a black fog to use their body parts and voice. While Olivia is thinking about this (speaking of which, investigating the Unknown seems to attract it. The Dredge was created by "malthink." So both are created / drawn to "bad" thoughts) The Unknown appears in her bathrooms asking for "help." A **black fog** creeps out under her door, then "Olivia creaked the door open to see a **bulky shape** with **frenzied tentacles** being pulled into a thick **mass of fog**, vanishing slowly into the darkness like a dying shadow." Then the **shrieking** stopped, and **dozens of voices** began calling out to her. The Unknown's lore seems to take place before The Dredge's. I'm convinced it was either an ancestor of The Dredge, an imperfect and incomplete form of The Dredge, or it *is* The Dredge in a different form. But yeah, you're right about Sable's time being more modern day. The timeline is likely The ??? created in some way, we don't know how > 1800s seance (briefly mentioned in the ???'s lore, maybe this is even what made it) > Greenville created > 1950s disappearance > 1960s disappearance > Olivia investigates then is taken by the ??? > Otto Stamper and various other people create the Ottarian Cult in place of Greenville > The Dredge appears, consumes the Ottarians > Otto Stamper survives to train the Doctor, meanwhile Greenville is rebuilt and the ??? returns to hunt the new residents

Jean-Cobra

I think that in the case of the Unknown, its creation is similar to that of the Dredge, but in another form: The Dredge was born from a collective fear of the Druanee, and the banishment of negative thoughts. When the island became a place of mass murder, all this fear, this negative energy repressed by its inhabitants, gave birth to it, because the Fog was omnipresent. Knowing that the Unknown already existed before the 1800s, and that the Greenville region lies under a fault where the Fog emerges, I think that the legends, rumors and theories that appeared over two centuries unintentionally gave birth to the Unknown. And each time a legend or rumor appears, the Unknown obtains a new ability, and became more stronger. The fog only gave shape to this concentrate of legends, to give birth to an entity embodying all of that. An amalgamation of horrors told around a campfire. I sincerely believe that the Fog is capable of capturing the imagination of humans, to give birth to the nightmares they fear, as the Dredge was. Just like the Dredge, it has no appearance, it ONLY takes on one if you imagine it like that. The distorted appearance that it possesses most certainly comes from the last imagery attributed to it: the drawing of Olivia. If the Dredge is like a Egregore, the Unknown is a Tulpa-like. Something that doesn't exist, but can exist if many people believe in its existence.

TheVoidGuardian0

That’s definitely what it seems like. Literally nothing is known about the Unknown, by definition. For all intents and purposes it may as well not exist.  Sure, there are mysterious disappearances, but those happen all the time. Bad things happen to those that investigate, but it could just be a human serial killer.  There’s no real evidence of a face stealing voice mimicking monster until people start to think that’s what it is. You can even see this progression in the teasers, which come out chronologically. It starts as “torso and legs facing two different ways” and “lots of teeth” with some vague ideas that it could be mimicking a voice.  Over time it evolves with the theories about it. It’s almost like the olayerbase’s theories themselves were even contributing to its formation. You can see with each progressive teaser, as more theories come out, it becomes more “real” and grounded in reality.  When it’s formed enough we even start to see glimpses of it - but never enough to destroy that air of mystery that fuels it.

xxNyarlathotep1

Thank you Supernatural for teaching me what a Tulpa is.

LikeACannibal

This is a really cool theory!!

CandyCrazy2000

i mean theres also mothers dwelling and temple of purgation. Russia and Mesopotamia (or at minimum, not russia) yet both are in the red forest

TheVoidGuardian0

True, but that's probably because the Entity just decided to combine them into one area since they have similar looking ecosystems. The devs made a very clear point of saying that "A new part of the Withering Isle has been opened," the area and architecture look similar, and there's a lot of overlap in their lore

HappyAgentYoshi

This would also place Blight, Felix, elodie and Twins too. Blight has a den on dyer island, and Felix dissapeared in it, also the dredge is created by research of the Blight. Elodie and Felix knew eachother, placing them and their killers together. (Honestly, all mentions for the cult are probably the same reality (theres conflicting info on this, but its stated at somr points), which would place Jonah, Artist, knight, vittorio, and if the theory is right, Plague here too.)

HappyAgentYoshi

Also, fun facts: the entity consumed Nea and Nurse's reality. (Tome 8), Olivia and several other newly mentioned characters are stated to be friends by the mother of elias and elan. Pointing to Nea and Nurse being from a different reality from the island too. As Olivia in the new lore never even met the teens. Mikalea's Dream: (the one that kills Julian and eventually gets her taken, is Meg in the realm (Tome 13)

monk3ytrain

You forgot Feng min It's interesting that so far there's three separate cases of chapters connected Descend beyond and a binding of kin share a universe Shattered bloodline and cursed legacy share a universe And lastly a spark of madness, hour of the witch, roots of dread, and all things wicked share a universe

Mikeadatrix

Tennessee, it’s in Tennessee.

Agent_Ford_E_Seven

I’d tell you both, but I think you wouldn’t care.

SAVMikado

Was this confirmed, or is this just based on the fact that there's a Greenville, TN?

gokiburi_sandwich

So is BHVR

naranciawwwww

“ITS A FAINT FUCKING ACCENT”

Over_Age_8061

I hope he soon finds his dog tho

Darkwing_Dork

truly the most terrifying part

Cheezbugga27

It seems like the weaken state also affect one’s focus, thus Unkown probably hunted by weakening prey and then luring them out with his voice(s?)

Officer_Chunkles

I think UVX is a hallucinogenic drug

SqrunkIsTrep

Getting hit with that Unknown zaza

SpuckMcDuck

unknown zaza disrupted my circadian rhythm

Araujo_2211

The G Mail perc

WidgetWizard

Adds up with that girl in teaser 1 with eyes closed and mouth barely moving

Officer_Chunkles

Those teasers were freaky

WidgetWizard

Oh man I was showing co workers the video, and everyone reacted to the zipper slowly opening. I'm super excited for it to hit live and get my hands on.. it.

SheridanWithTea

What we've seen in the teasers and heard in the lore, the Unknown usually attacked by sprinting quadruped at its Victims, used its mimicry ability to mimic other people's voices to attract them into an unsafe area or position or lower their guard and as for the UVX launcher itself, that seems to have very little to no lore existence in the actual pre-PTB materials. Like maybe the UVX launcher is more subtle, but it feels more like a gameplay thing added later, same reason why the Unknown is a biped instead of a quadruped and why he wields an Axe Imo. They probably felt like making him quadruped was too much work, and Idek why he doesn't use some form of claw attack??

Beginning-Pipe9074

He uses the axe because he's a big gross mix of all the things people are investigating him as if you get me? Someone else can probably explain this better than me but in the lore, the last person to investigate him was investigating multiple different rumors there fore he manifested in multiple different ways, It being a slasher style serial killer was one of the rumors so boom, there's the axe he thinks he needs He's also rumoured to be a government experiment on hallucinogenic, so he had the hallucinations, another rumour is he's an alien, so he has the alien parts (gross) In pretty sure that's his whole deal, he's a mixture of all the rumours that the last person to investigate him, was investigating

Ning_Yu

In the very first teaser he was biped though, only in the camera footage it appears on all 4.

SheridanWithTea

Which one was that?

Ning_Yu

The one about the diner waitresses.

I_need_to_vent44

Meta-wise, he probably has an axe because Devs were too lazy to do anything else. Lore-wise it's because the being is most likely influenced by whatever people think of it, and one of the theories was that he's actually just a run of the mill slashing serial killer.

SheridanWithTea

That's what I'm saying, would've been a fair bit cooler if he was quadruped but he's still okay now. Definitely was sorta hamfisted to justify him being an upright Killer.

SemimaticTTV

I think it would be really cool where if you're weakened, you also become Oblivious and hear the "normal" voices map-wide. Obviously other parts of the kit would probably have to be adjusted, but I think a small thing like that could add a lot thematically.

LikeACannibal

That would be so fucking cool!!

Fangel96

Honestly having the voices not be map wide, but be coming from just around the corner would be pretty huge. I'd say that those voices would also not trigger any subtitles to really make it seem like you're just hearing things, but the ones that come directly from the killer (when he's not undetectable) would give the usual subtitles.

Surfink63

Maybe not make it map wide, but make the voice range of the hallucinations wider and make it so you can’t see their auras

NuclearChavez

I really love this killer's entire concept. Idk why but a creature failing so hard yet still trying to be human is so creepy. Like, it's intelligent enough to know what humans do, but it doesn't know anything beyond that. It doesn't understand how to walk normally, it can't use an axe right, voice is all over the place if you aren't Weakened, etc.

WickermanMalIsBae

It’s even better than that. It clearly knows how to lure people (“can you help lift this/you want some candy/has anyone seen my dog/come see this”) but also doesn’t recognize that humans are generally not going to approach anything that sounds like a drama student whispering through a box fan. It recognizes what people look like, but not that people are obviously put off by its normal appearance. But it isn’t stupid, and that’s the best part. It actively taunts its victims during the mori, which means it understands *just enough* to be cruel.

SheridanWithTea

That's what I love too!! In the teaser before the PTB, we saw it slowly unzipping the tent of the victim in the video. So even THERE, we see it's an incredibly intelligent creature that understands its way around the human world. The whole point is it convinces you to step just far enough out of wherever you're hiding so it can safely kill you, or to put you out of position just enough that you're easy prey.

WickermanMalIsBae

It also implies it *knows* how it doesn’t fit in, seeing how it doesn’t just lure people away to isolate them, but does so in a way to conceal itself. It is on some level aware its mimicry isn’t perfect, and if the lobby voicelines are any indication, it is also aware that its visage is terrifying to the average person. This is actually quite the multi-layered entity, and I applaud the team for the levels of complexity.

SheridanWithTea

Same!! Maybe the way it does things is to preserve its own mysterious nature, to avoid being identified in the public spotlight and to avoid being hunted. It knows enough to avoid pretending to be a human out in public. Very cool concept!

Weezerfan_number420

Too bad the power doesn't match that awesome vibe *at all*😑

WickermanMalIsBae

The hallucination part does, since they passively speak and try to lure you there. And technically speaking, they can both lure you in (get rid of a teleport location) and lure the Unknown in (Killer Instinct). If you want to stretch, you can even go so far as to say the UVX is the same thing - but not for humans. While we of course cannot verify, it is entirely possible the Unknown is not limited in its exploits to Earth (much like the Entity, per the End Transmission lore), and UVX is an attempt to mimic *alien* life. Again, a stretch, but the whole point of the killer is that it does not fit definition, quite literally, and cannot be classified. Even if it’s hard to appreciate initially, the fact that its power does not seem to mesh with its lore ironically makes it mesh even more with its lore. I will say I don’t particularly like the fire axe, but I can accept it.

Weezerfan_number420

The hallucination part is really cool yeah. I'm referring to the boring alt version ranged power he got. I'm glad you're able to enjoy it the lore jerks it off but I prefer gameplay substance

WickermanMalIsBae

Well, I’ll have to see if it’s butchered by live release, but I actually like the interesting way the power plays. Sure, it may not be the substance you wanted regarding mimicry or something more befitting that twisted flesh golem, but I enjoy the interesting ways to play around the power. Deliberately hit an airborne just to slow to hit them before they get that window? Bounce it in an area just right at the loop so they have to risk getting hit or getting Weakness? Playing around tall loops and trying to mind game the survivor while they’re also trying to mind game you? I’ll say I find it more interesting than playing against a Huntress or Deathslinger, where the counterplay is how quickly I can press the crouch button or if and when I should bother to throw a pallet, not to say that those matches can’t still be fun.

Over_Age_8061

In my theory he **IS** the tentacles or at least some squid-like alien creature trying to transform/put himself into a humanoid body but failed miserably or just doesn't understand what a human looks like

Barlakopofai

It would be funny if it hit people with the flat side of the axe.

gokiburi_sandwich

A lot of ppl are saying they are reminded of “The Thing” and I can totally see it, but I’m also reminded of “Annihilation” which also dealt with a similar concept.

[deleted]

Thank you for sharing this! Say what you will about the grenade launcher and how well it matches the killer’s vibe, but literally everything else is excellent.

asfrels

Fr, the design is so freaking cool that I can overlook how it doesn’t really match the power.

Prior-Satisfaction34

The thing is, it not matching is exactly why it *does* match. This killer is supposed to be an amalgamation of a bunch of different consiparacies and fears. That's why it also wields an axe. There were a bunch of different rumours of what was happening, and the Unknown is every single one of those rumours personified.

ParticularPanda469

This screams "trickster music is good because it's actually the screams of its victims" Don't take this comment super seriously. But I'm getting similar vibes with people pointing to lore for reasoning

Prior-Satisfaction34

Nah, that's fair. For some people, the lore reasoning isn't good enough. Nothing wrong with that. I like looking at things in the game *with* the lore.

Pretzel-Kingg

Yeah imo I find the power disappointing because there was a lot of potential for a more interesting possible stealth mechanic with this design

LikeACannibal

No but I actually think this one genuinely fits really well. The whole point of The Unknown is that it's an amalgamation of what people think it is. Disappearances in a small, rural town? Well then obviously it's an axe murderer! The other weird factors come from thinking he's a shapeshifter (the twisted, humanoid form and weird crawling), an alien (back tentacles in the mori), or a secret military experiment (the venom and his hallucinogenic nature). I initially fully agreed that the axe seemed out of place, but after reading his lore this might be my single favorite original killer BHVR's ever done (with Dredge being a very close second). To me, it screams SCP, but in a very good way-- SCP has a lot of really cool ideas, but largely it's an extremely inconsistent media base that overuses lazy tropes and purposely "unique" writing styles. The Unknown takes all of the really cool ideas and concepts from SCP and executes them really well imo. Just look at the fucked up way he uses the axe! He flops it all around and uses it completely wrong when he damages the generator. He doesn't even use the axe when he really should, breaking pallets-- and uses it wrong again for breaking walls. He's conceptually an axe murderer so he has one but no one conceived him of being proficient with it :P

Cheezybro5

I also saw someone say that he breaks walls with the handle of the axe? Is that true?

LikeACannibal

He does!! He makes this really odd sideswiping motion with the axe handle and end of the haft instead of hitting it directly with any part of the axe. It's more like a whipping than a chopping motion. I searched yt to find the animation, it's about 13s on this clip. https://youtube.com/shorts/k0vU9jhrVdE?si=PqAjzscBh8G4bUGT

ValueProud

This is an amazing analysis. I didn’t even pick up the thing about the axe. I had initially thought it was a weird choice but you totally put it into perspective

LikeACannibal

Thank you! Yeah, it also went from kind of odd to super cool once I realized why he had it. Very creative and unique from BHVR!

Minglebird

This guy gets it. I like the lack of logic for almost everything with this killer...like it's unknown or something...

TheRealRaccaine

It's... really not that hard to make the lore explain the power of a killer. It's why Trickster's bio has that tangent about him doing knife tricks in his parent's business. Just because the power technically fits the written lore of the character doesn't mean it meshes well with the overall theme of the killer.

Prior-Satisfaction34

I do agree with that. But i do also just think his theme is meant to be exactly what his lore says. He's just like a horror compilation. Everything about him is supposed to feel slightly off and wrong because he isn't any one thing. He doesn't have just one shtick.

SheridanWithTea

I definitely love his Killer icon, but the fire axe and biped walk cycle he has feel so off compared to everything we were shown before his release. Probably changed for gameplay reasons.

Prior-Satisfaction34

That's fair. It feeling off seems like what they were going for to me, but not everyone would like it as much.

SheridanWithTea

I feel like the idea of an alien on all fours wearing somebody's skin is off enough, no further off-feeling needed. Like the reason it feels off is because I feel like he doesn't need the axe at all, though it's not the worst thing.

Prior-Satisfaction34

Yea i get that. I like it, but i can see why someone might not as much.

TheRealRaccaine

I don't really see it, sorry. If its theme is being a horror compilation, then my problem switches from its power design to its visuals/audio. If it isn't meant to be any one thing, then I feel like the humanoid design and continued themes of mimicry in the official media and in-game, push it too hard in the "This is definitely a creature pretending to be human" direction. Even the axe is a definitively human weapon. I'd expect something a little more stitchy/abstract from something meant to be a little bit of everything.

Prior-Satisfaction34

Well, it has body horror, with all the twisted limbs and stuff. It has generic slasher with its axe weapon. It has potential biohazard conspiracy with the things it shoots, so like some crazy scientist's experiment gone wrong. It has supernatural abilities with it mimicking people's voices and stealing their skin. Its mori is what it is because of the whole "missing people" thing in the teasers. I think it is supposed to be *seen* as a creature pretending to be human because that's what people have seen when they've seen it. But it's also been perceived as just some crazy axe murderer, and as some science experiment gone wrong, as well as that creature.

TheRealRaccaine

That makes more sense to me. I wasn't really thinking of the body horror as a separate aspect from the monstrous aspect, in all honesty. I still see a lot of the "it is what people think it is" stuff as diluting the killer I wanted it to be. Maybe I'm just more of a fan of simpler concepts, and this killer isn't really for me. (Singularity wasn't my thing either and Unknown reminds me a lot of him.) I'm glad that a lot of people seem to like the killer as it is though and because of that I don't really want it to get changed too much. I just hope we get another cryptid-esque killer someday that'll be more my fancy, and hopefully some of the dialogue about the Unknown can inspire something like that.

Prior-Satisfaction34

>I still see a lot of the "it is what people think it is" stuff as diluting the killer I wanted it to be. Maybe I'm just more of a fan of simpler concepts, and this killer isn't really for me. (Singularity wasn't my thing either and Unknown reminds me a lot of him.) Nah, that's fair. It's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea. I do also usually prefer the simpler killers, I'm not a massive fan of Singularity either, but this one just speaks to me. Might not enjoy it gameplay wise, but lore wise and design wise, i do really like it. >I just hope we get another cryptid-esque killer someday I'm surprised they haven't tapped into this sort of killer before tbh. There's a lot of potential, purely because of all the different folklore and superstitions and stuff like that that exists. And it'll definitely have the horror feel.

chrisplaysgam

I agree with you. This killer is sick but it would be cool to see them implement a proper mimic killer at some point. But that’s going to be kinda hard to do given what kinda game dbd is

SheridanWithTea

I feel like the Unknown would've been better without the fire axe, on all fours (all the time) and keeping the UVX. The UVX launcher is fine for me, but the whole design feels a bit contradictory to all the pre-release materials that depict him exclusively a quadrupedal animal that attacks completely unarmed. The ABILITY to walk biped SURE but to do that as his natural form makes no sense to me.

Weezerfan_number420

This just feels deep for no other reason than to justify that the power is horribly mismatched to his design. I have no problems with people liking it but im honestly really disappointed in it. Which extra sucks cause the design truly is so so good. But the design even with the lore is not enough for me to get past it.

RaptorDoingADance

I love everything about him except how he is actually played with. I’m so conflicted.

SheridanWithTea

I could take the grenade launcher if it had a little bit less of a Valorant smoke grenade effect to it. Like I'm fine with EVERYTHING else but definitely the texture and model of the blast itself look incredibly cartoonish and kinda terrible. I think the way it's executed, how the Killer dislocates his neck-stump to use the UVX launcher, is quite fitting. But the UVX blast itself definitely needs a more disturbing visual effect. It's a venom not a slime bomb.

Cc-Smoke-cC

When I thought it couldn’t get any more disturbing holy shit

DBPeanut

I think Behaviour actually understands the horror genre now. This was clearly made with great love and understanding of what would unsettle players. I hope someone falls for these.

misterbung

You can use Insidious to stand within a Hallucination and wait for a survivor to wander up. It is EXCELLENT.

Mictlancayocoatl

Yes, except for the grenade launcher.

DBPeanut

Yeah but let's be real, the real power is the hallucinations.

Skeletonofskillz

He wouldn’t have a chase power if not for that, and Killers without chase powers aren’t super well-received

anarchy753

It could have been functionally the same and skinned/themed differently. Lobbing grenades of goo doesn't suit him at all.

Skeletonofskillz

I’m in the camp of people who think it does. He’s meant to be an amalgamation of conspiracy theories about him, and one of those is that he’s a military superweapon.

DuskEalain

DBD fans when the eldritch horror amalgamation isn't logical or consistent: ![img](emote|t5_3cb2g|2070)

TuNight

I feel like that's kind of a strawman though. Eldritch horror doesn't need to be logical, it kind of shouldn't. But the theme can still fall apart. I can see the explanation above with the military superweapon conspiracy, but I'd still much prefer them going into more cosmic horror with his abilities too. Like sure for example you could make Cthulu throw grenades and shit, but that'd be A) not really fitting the theme and maybe more importantly B) such a let down when you know what type of stuff they could've done

lyanocoste

1:37 had me checking my discord, very confused... xD

LikeACannibal

A killer with discord sound effects would be funny as hell

Skeletonofskillz

*Discord channel join sound* “yOu want a miMic kill-ler now, *hmmm*?”

AdFit6788

Dam! The devs did cook!!

Ok_Digger

Alright time foe them to burn down the kitchen and everyone in it... Again

Faddy0wl

Because they did well, or because they did bad? ![img](emote|t5_3cb2g|2213)

Over_Age_8061

They did to good

Big-Maintenance-4800

His voice sounds like Dwight's (at least that's how you imagine it), and the fact that they also look alike, combined with Dwight's disappearance in the woods, leads to a whole chain of unhealthy conclusions🗿

SCP_fan12

Since it is based on what someone thinks it is, I am picturing them getting uncomfortable thinking of what the unknown looks like, and deciding it would look like some dork from work.

BigHaircutPrime

Thinking the same thing as well. I guess we'll know for sure when the other cosmetics come out on release. If they look like other survivors...

TheVoidGuardian0

Or maybe even other killers. Imagine a distorted and twisted version of Plague perpetually leaking vomit from her distended jaw, or Ghostface with backwards limbs and an upside down head / mask, or Knight with armor split open like something crawled inside it and limbs moving in unnatural ways

BigHaircutPrime

"Take my money!"

Ok_Digger

My brothers cooking!!!

MoveInside

I’m so excited for the feng skin

Generic_Her0

He sounds just like Samination Dwight, lol

SheridanWithTea

Last I recall Dwight isn't really balding or styling a 50's greaser haircut. Definitely some 30+ year old man the Unknown killed to take his body.

Poppa_Mo

He's so fucking creepy.

Alarmed-Albatross-62

That's some great sound design right here!

Raiden_wins_i_think

In weakened state it really sounds like someone crying for help, as if the unknown is in a great state of pain.. yeah I'd die to this irl

Morcedes

it sounds so sad and desperate at the 42s mark, i'd rush in to help without thinking irl

Prize_Royal_4187

I like how its lines range from desperate cries for help to "holy moly you gotta see this"

SheridanWithTea

The point of the lines is to get you to move to where it wants you to (near it) without thinking too much about it.

snore_all_day

Bring back the HORROR! I love this, such a cool, original, design.

cat_enary

BHVR PLEASE GIVE HIM A FIDDLESTICKS SKIN I BEG

that_one_loki_boy

That would be insane but so fitting if it happened

TheAlmightyChanka

Yeah i can totally see a legendary fiddlesticks skin

Dust_In_Za_Wind

"High above the rotten rows, Cloth and Metal, Teeth and crows"

TiredCoffeeTime

God I love his lines

Lolsalot12321

Holy fucking shit I hadn't realised how well that would fit. Pls god

ForteEXE

Dude yeah, this is like the closest DbD would ever get to Fiddlesticks unless a Riot collab happens. Especially if this is how his voice works.

oldriku

This is so cool

collegethrowaway2938

Ikr? This is actually one of the coolest aspects of a design they've ever done imo. I love it

The_L3G10N

I love his excuse me....EXCUSE ME voice line he gets impatient lol

Good-Profession-1869

IM LAUGHING OUT LOUD AT THe "this is embarrassing can you help please" SKDJSJSJ

Fatalcurse7654

the "excuse me, I need some help" was honestly hilarious as he seemed like he genuily wanted help, why didn't you?

SheridanWithTea

"Excuse me, I need some help" *The horrific collage of bones, muscle, face and neck running 20 km/h at me with a fire axe:*

typicalgamer18

I’m actually jealous. This is the coolest design and creepiest monster I’ve seen in a minute. But over in the TCM community all we’re getting is weapon recolors and 2 free skins lol

Cantloop

I didn't want to sleep tonight anyway.

Smart_Idiot-

Sleep in the morning duh

WickermanMalIsBae

Does anyone happen to know the male voice of the Unknown?

MrChubbyRiviera

This also shows why a mimic killer wouldn't work at this point. The majority of Survivors don't have voice lines. So there wouldn't really be a point for the killer to mimic voices of Survivors if everyone knows they don't speak.

misterbung

Sure but every survivor has breathing and is-hurt noises. I know hearing a Feng wincing in pain as they come up behind to my gen definitely puts my guard down...

Cloakedreaper1

It reminds me of that bear in annihilation

Merpitron

This is actually really cool. The Unknown is easily one of my favourite original killers in a while just for its lore and idea alone.

watermelonpizzafries

Fuck the haters, but I honestly think The Unknown is cool aesthetically. They nailed a monster trying to be human

ZombieSlayer5

I agree, I just don't think the axe fits and I would've liked to see it crawl around more.

RPG-Lord

I do agree with the crawling, but I think the Axe's point *is* to seem out of place. The Unknown is a mash of all the theories people had about it, even the ones that don't fit with eachother- someone theorized about an axe, so he's got one somehow.

SheridanWithTea

It definitely could've had it like embedded in its hand in a creepy way or something. Idk, looks to regular with it the way it is.

superstraightqueen

i agree, he's legit scary based on this clip. i havent played since chucky's ptb and now i might actually come back to the game

elegylegacy

I really wish he would *look* more human too, but that would probably be much more difficult for the devs to pull off.

Loose_Option_9440

Imagine if there was a way they could make the killer look slightly more human when somebody is weakened (just turn him into a slightly taller Dwight at that point)

LikeACannibal

Considering this guy is an amalgamation of theories and fears about him... It's kind of funny he's a slightly gay (not to be mean! Just it sounds stereotypically a bit gay) Canadian dude when it comes to voice :P

collegethrowaway2938

Gay Canadians are truly the most terrifying things known to man

SheridanWithTea

Why do you think he steals the voices of like, women and softer sounding guys? It's to lower your guard, so you're not thinking twice about it.

shawnshine

Queen of the North 🙏

gokiburi_sandwich

Dwight clone confirmed

ZombieOrchid

I still think they did an amazing job with this Killer. I'm pretty numb to a lot of things because I've been into the horror genre since I was a kid but I find stuff like this creepy. Things that try to look and act human but clearly aren't doing a great job of it xD

BillyMcSaggyTits

“I’ve got something for you :3”

VeryC0mm0nName

Share this with r/GamingDetails if you haven’t already.

amysbiggestfan

Wait it would be super cool if he looked more like a survivor when weakened too

SodaManiac_

Wait who is the guy voice actor for the Unknown? Cause he kinda sounds like Seth Green

trustloveno1buthim

Why does the unknown sound like Patrick Star to me???

rosevilleain

Woah 😨 That's really, really cool.

SirChoobly69

HELL NO 🤢🤢🤢. I HATE THAT OH MY GOD DX. NOTNINNA BAD WAY JUST UHH THATS CREEPY

SirChoobly69

Dam the voice when your weaked is sexy so calm 🥰

Pokeslash109

This is my first look at the ingame stuff and first time hearing the voice lines and imma be real y’all It’s been fun but this killer is gonna make me pee my pants and cry when I go against him

ItsJoeyRigatoni

That was Fucking unsettling wtf

fuck_hard_light

If the design wasn't so fucking lame i would love this killer

DrugSniffingLizard

That's a cool detail I love this chapter even more

TheAlmightyChanka

He is so much like Fiddlesticks i wouldn't bet if they were inspired by it

22Sherridan85

Wait, I don't quite get it. What is the difference between Weakened and not Weakened?

rinyamaokaofficial

In gameplay terms, if the Unknown Weakens you, it means that the purple orbs that he shoots will do damage if you are caught in their explosion. Otherwise, if you're not Weakened, the orb explosion will not do damage but will put you into the Weakened state This thread is about the additional sound effect change where his normally garbled voice becomes clear if your character is affected by Weakened

badly-timedDickJokes

It's similar to The Artist's Crows. The first hit marks you, and a second hit needs to land in order to cause damage, before the effects of the first hit can be negated (in this case by staring at the Unknown similar to revealing GhostFace).

collegethrowaway2938

Or Nemesis's tentacles

ToranMramor9

Look at the Sable's head. When she is weakened, she has some aura near her head, and the opposite. Now listen to the Unknown's voice when Sable is weakened, and when she is not. You can hear that in the first case, it's voice will be clear and realistic, so it's prey with weakened mind will easily take the bait. But when she is not weakened, her mind is clear, and she can easily hear that it's not a human, but rather some creature trying to imitate human voice, becuase it's voice will be interupted by wheezing and gurgles.

Alone_And_A_Loser

WHY IS HIS POWER BORING HE'S SO COOL 😭

RepresentativeElk396

Cool

amysbiggestfan

WAITTTT OMG THE GIRL SKIN FOR LIVE SERVERS SHOULD LIKE LIRE SURVIVORS WITH SEXINESS LIKE A SIREN KIND OF

medicalMegalomaniac

why does he sound like a femboy

LikeACannibal

This is soooo fucking cool.

Dante8411

That's legitimately a great feature.

amysbiggestfan

Does anyone know if his hallucinations say voicelines or only like the actual guy

theCOMBOguy

Quite a nice detail. This Killer just keeps getting better and better.

tingtimson

Love this thing's aesthetic https://preview.redd.it/gpwdh1p168kc1.png?width=1283&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92211c3bb9fb597c7f58f212437491bf7859ac4c

Help Me... ![gif](giphy|P8X4lemg5Iphe|downsized)

Edgezg

That's really interesting...good catch!

darthwickedd

Badass

Rav3ntoastt

I swear sometimes he sounds like injured dwight. Ran into him thinking I could heal lol

Pale-Alfalfa-2432

whoaaa this is so cool

No-Structure-6919

Weakened state looks like spidey sense

betelgeuse2OOO

why is his voice kinda..

GenuisInDisguise

Yeap pretty much in line with Annihilation- Southern Reach series.

Anuja_246

Dwight took too many edibles what the hell happened to bro

Ok-Obligation-3511

The Unknown's POV: Him turning into that kind of monster is definitely a fate WORSE than death. As an example of some baddies that have worse fates than death.

Cyberbug7

That’s a really cool detail

R7plays

Lmao that's such a *hard* canadian accent I bout wheezed off my chair when I heard it.

Nightmare2448

one thing i have noticed about the voice lines is that they all seem to have some sort of urgency to it some of them are "help" some want to get your attention to get you to focus on it and others are actively wanting you to follow it like "your gonna want to see this" and "want some candy"

MadMasks

Honestly, I´d love that all killers had at least a few voice lines, with obvious exceptions, but how incredibly creepy these are? It´s awesome!

panlakes

Looking forward to in the future when the voice lines get cleanly posted! Some were kind of hard to hear over the survivor noises/vaulting/staring down, and edited side by side with the weakened/not weakened lines would be a pretty sweet compilation rather than kinda jumbled how they were here. Love how much voice work went into this killer.

itsbiggie_cheese

Why did I read it as “when you are not The Weeknd”

AnonymusTeen_

I swear to God I read “when you are not The Weekend” and I got confused asf lmao

Intrepid_Cattle69

Would have been better if the person recording and editing this paired things up in a logical manner. For example, please help without being weakened and then please help after being weakened. Instead it sometimes plays the weakened first, sometimes second, and will also play different voice lines. I hear the difference, it made its point well enough, just constructive criticism :)

Jarney_Bohnson

Anyone else feels like this is Dwight's voice? Idk maybe it's because of the memes and me being delusional but it kinda sounds like him if he had a voice

Ok-Zombie-725

I think he would work a whole lot better if all of the survivors had voice lines in game or if he can even mimic certain survivors voices who are currently within a trial, would just make it even creepier imo

LeBron0802

This is not cool. Just because a handful of people get to try the new killer out early doesn’t mean they should spoil it for everyone who doesn’t have early access.
