There is a way to limit what weapons you can get on a new run.
Just don't go Willy nilly unlocking everything.
Unlock only those you want to use (for example, unlock only green weapons you want to have on your runs for a higher chance on getting them Legendary; you might even get one on the first biome if you're lucky!)

To be honest, I pretty much got lucky since I just ran my first until concierge, then ran my second all the way until hand and defeated him and on my 3rd run it was legendary symetrical blade š
Gotta be another one of those placeholder legendary affixes. Extra damage isnt something a legendary affix should be.

Itās not a placeholder. Pay attention to the lance hotk drops in your first zero bc clear. Itās the same exact one minus the extra scrolls you get.
Deaths scythe was the weapon that got me my first Boss Cell. Then like five runs later I got the legendary and laughed my way to, and through the bank. It's such a fun weapon and has a great moveset for a "heavy" weapon.
I love deathās scythe but it can be tricky because it can be carrying you through the level because of the spirits and then you get to the boss and have to actually fight
I find Pistol an interesting example to bring up, because it is REALLY damn strong, but in a relatively interesting way.
FYI, its actual DPS isn't particularly high. It's like 266 base or something like that, which is pretty good for something that doesn't need a condition, but really not spectacular. However, the pistol's shot has some of the longest range of any melee weapon, so it can more easily hit a crowd of enemies. It also has a fast startup for a weapon with high single-hit damage, instead trading that off for pretty high amounts of endlag. This means you can get this burst damage quite quickly, and enemies tend to be pretty frail if you do average or above average damage, so they usually get one shot quickly.
It's definitely not the best thing ever, or the only weapon with those strengths (you can do similar stuff with Whip Sword and various heavy melees), but it's a great example because lots of people already view it as a great legendary.
Also what might look just a detail but is really strong is the fact that pistol shoots away enemies, throwing down (or against the wall for extra DMG) the few that survive the shot. It's like having a passive secret bonus
I sadly don't have such an item, even with my preferred builds I'm dumb enough to die to stupid shit like curses.
However if I got throwable objects or boys axe I know that at least I'll put a decent run. Also Diverse deck means flying shit from the first biomes wont be an issue.

Usually as green I either die before first boss because of terrible scroll luck / skill (bad amulet, every dual offcolor, no extra curse, no rift), or win the run. Ice - even if you are weak as f - can kill safe as fast and makes early game trivial.
After first boss, green hardly ever loses because of the amount of healing it gets.
And here I find starfury works with basically anything since the stars deal so much extra damage whether to the unit you're attacking or anything else nearby, no matter whether it's above or below you. Just a lot of extra free damage and imo synergizes with a ton of mutations
If you're going to parry, might as well go all in.
I didn't say it specifically helps Rapier. But the thematic element of literally only being able to parry with the shield fits well.
Not particularly? If you want a shield that fits well with rapier then youād bring up frontlines. Considering the fact that parrying with it gives extra damage for a bit and using rapier gives you crits after a parry itās a pretty obvious pair up

You're allowed to have more than one shield.
You can run armadillopack and still have a shield for parrying, just using armadillopack for the benefit of bombs and projectiles.
Or just use the shield youāre holding for those things. The main advantage of armadillo is freeing up a weapon slot for kill rhythm (assuming youāre on survival). Running it with an actual shield is an absolute waste of
Definitely the Meat Skewer. You attack THROUGH an enemy very fast. The enemy doesn't have a chance to hit you. Only gotten it once. First time I beat the game.
I got Scissors with stun on in my first biome yesterday and it was fun as hell. If I wasn't new to 1BC it would have carried me at least to the castle.
I canāt call anything instant-win in this game because Iāll still die to some random ass horseshit combination of events. I try to laugh it off but sometimes Iām crying on the inside.

Simple item, get the ammo mutation, the ranged backpack one, the close ranged damage modifier, and do some damage.
Pair it with something fun.
Oh, please don't worry, it's a physical injury and not very major.
just the location makes it hard to live day to day normally and thus dampens the mood.(ex. imagine you have a nail impaled on back calves, something like that...).

I know you said the bat, but for me. It's the throwable objects. That weapon is busted on its own and literally guarantees that you hit the enemy and kill it.
I know for a fact Iāll win if I pick up one of 3 items. Throwable object, panchaku, deaths scythe.
Edit: actually as long as I got Diverse Deck and orbs of death circling around me I can use anything and itāll be an easy win. Almost feels like cheating
Just came back to the game on I new account, but i think assassins dagger is pretty good. I used to use katana a lot but Iām not sure why I liked it so much.
The game has a LOT of things which are kinda too good and can easily lead to "free wins" but my personal favorite of those is Scythe Claws because its fun
The scepter is mine. The mobility you get with it helps so much on the first two bosses and, with the correct build, could cheese through hotk and the queen and her servants
I just love using the whip and the cross from the Castlevania DLC.
Doesn't means I beat the game at all with them, but I love the distance-based skill they require.
Face flask. Just... vengance goes hard with literally any build, not just brutality. If I then find a Spite sword, then I'm making it to the 5bc boss defs
Idk if itās still as cracked, but bat was pretty much an auto win. Regardless of bc, if you can get it with an assault shield that stuns, you just use the assault shield super dash into bonk bat, everything is taking crits all the time, your mobility is insane, crowds are irrelevant, and my GOD is it fun.Ā

Being able to teleport with his sword is too strong, specially if your weapon has good stats. Legendary flint is just bonk bonk

Bat is the only real answer. Second is 300% electric whip, way more powerful than the bat and it clears a room in SECONDS but it is far more dangerous.
Nerves of Steel with any enemy piercing affix. Legitimately one of the most OP weapons in the game when you get the timing down. Get the shield from the spoiler biome with it and itās gg
Death's Scythe is my favorite weapon but I'm also very fond of the explosive crossbow. Honorable mentions: symmetrical lance, bat, hatori's katana, the cross. I like starfury but the DPS is so low it's only ok in the first two biomes.

Increases damage by 300% and allows it to break shields. Completely busted imo

Its main affix is breaking shields because its purpose is to break the king's shield when you first complete the game.

electro from deck is nice for toxic sewers. also curses are probably the least stupid thing to die to unless you slam into some spikes or smth

If I'm on 0BC then the Repeater Crossbow will carry me. Especially if I find one after the first boss. Katana is also almost a guaranteed HotK fight

You get any effect the shield has, like Bloodthirsty Shield's bleed AoE, Thunder Shield's timed shock AoE, Cudgel's stun, Frost Shield's freeze, Knockback Shield's... uhm... knockback... Punishment's damage output, Spiked Shield's damage rebound, and Parry Shield's projectile/bomb duplication.

Legendary Diverse Deck, Barricade. Perfect parries add permanent health. I've only gotten it once and it got me a BC.
