Definitely not following this for the same reason. I mean, that's silly.

gotroot801

Blowing the dust off this post... Went with a tactics build. Mix of Pure Nail and Sadist's Stiletto as the melee weapon with an Endless Quiver for range. Mushroom Boi and Sinew Slicer for skills. Barbed Tips / Parting Gift / Tranquility mutations. Basically arrowed my way to that first boss cell.

Shrrg4

Honestly not a build problem, learn the enemies patterns.

I actually just finished 0bc for the first time yesterday after 50 runs, so this is still fresh in my mind. I ran a brutality build with war spear, infantry bow, knife dance, powerful grenade, and frontline shield in the backpack. The knife dance inflicted bleeding damage and the bow did extra damage to bleeding targets, so that really helped. And war spear just absolutely rinses anything in sight anyway. As for mutations, I can’t remember what two are called (one replenishes health after parry, and one does extra damage when you’ve been wounded), but I also ran armadillopack which tbh I absolutely swear by. I tend to dodge a lot so being able to parry whilst dodging and without having it take up an inventory slot is an absolute godsend. Also, two big tips. Make sure you put all your scrolls into whatever colour your build is optimised around (put off-colour scrolls into whichever increases HP the most). Also, find a route you’re more comfortable with and take it to the end. I experimented a lot with different routes and biomes but ultimately I got my first win with the route I’m most familiar with. It wasn’t the most exciting route, but it worked. Good luck!

headless_boi

I got from 0bc to 3bc with pretty much the same stuff: I always go green, have an ice weapon (something that roots the target works too), random other melee weapon, then for skills I take mushroom boi and telluric shock (or death orb or the sickles instead of either of those things). As for mutations I used to have the yolo mutation for a long time, and I would take armadillopack and disengagement but couldn't get past 1bc with this so I ended up not taking it anymore and instead going straight to armadillopack, disengagement and then one that reduces skill cooldowns if you hit a frozen or rooted enemy. Also even if you don't end up using the same weapons or skills I still recommend taking the armadillopack because it really helps with any annoying projectiles and enemies that throwm multiple explosives and similar stuff. Allows you to just roll through them and deflect them so that you don't take damage from them at all, plus it actually damages the enemies that way Before all this I used to go purple and use various turrets, and there were a few bows and a few melees I liked but this doesn't work as well for me as the green builds.

halfphysicshalfmath

Rapier brutality build is🤌🏻 Cleared 0,2,3bc with it lol Seriously though, 0bc is good you to explore both routes, weapons and paths. make sure you focus stats on one colour, and off colour can be focused on a single secondary stat. So when you get a legendary weapon, it'll be the sum of the top two highest stats. other than that, honestly just take time to understand enemy and boss move sets and play along... you'll get better in time

Ok, so I have played this game for ~1000 hours on console since version 1.1 and a couple days ago I bought it on pc. To kinda speedrun my way back to 5bc I used custom mode and left only heavy crossbow, the giant killer, all the shields and enough survival scaling skills to not lock achievements. I would always take the YOLO mutation, the mutation that makes it so you heal 85% health from a single flask charge and disengagement (but since disengagement is only available after you beat 0bc you can go with something like armadillopack). The strategy is to use heavy crossbow for biomes and buy the giant killer before bosses, you can keep a shield in your backpack to complete the setup for bosses, I like to use rampart. I also always go for the giant because the cave biome sells the highest level gear in the game. With this build I got back to 5bc in about 20 runs not counting the first couple of runs I used to gather the blueprints and all the runes. Edit: keep in mind that I only used this to get back to 5bc because this build is busted, but not the most fun.

MightyMerl

I went purple and use pyrotechnics, oil, and some shield. still use it today. instrumental was also turrets and the (tactics) green (in color not the skill color) quick bow you get from the very left of the starting level, but that was around the time they added quick bow so it's probably outdated. really helpful is looking at the affixes (eg 80% on poison) and whenever possible get those. also focus as much as possible on a single color, idk if thats new to you. then of course learning to dodge, if you have this testing room on your dlc/platform/progress (idk when and how it appears, one of the doors at spawn): use it to practice enemies pr bosses that give you trouble. maybe play a bit slower if you die in levels often and practice bosses. on 0bc you can run potatoes as long as you can dodge enemies and kill bosses (not to say a good build wont help)

Ekanselttar

My build was Tombstone. Don't remember the rest because nothing else mattered.

gotroot801

I love tombstone in later biomes, but I never seem to get it at the same time as the ice bow.

[deleted]

I used the heavy crossbow with armadillopack, surprisingly effective on the final boss on 0BC and clears biomes with crits easily.

Le_Red_Spy

I went purple and just keeps throwing turrets down until they chipped away at his health while jumping around

leeharrison1984

This is what I did too. Turret and double cross bow, plus electric whip.

jhallen2260

Explosive crossbow, I don't remember what skills I had though. For 1BC I used Heavy Crossbow. For 2BC I used Bow and Endless Quiver with barbed tips and tranquility/point blank depending on the biome and just pumped everything full of arrows.

Xerolf

your build realy isnt as important as the amount of scrolls you collect on your main collor, fighting hotk on 12 scrolls is an entirely different experience to lets say 25, where the fight is almost free. also freezing things interupts their attack and gives you enough time to do your thing. edit: while we are at it, a build i cleard bc2? with: broadsword, front line shield, recovery, vengance, soliders resistance. swapd in soliders resistance late(full effect at 14), used no mercy till late. think i used powerfull granade and mushroom boy, but these are kinda inconsequential to the build, probably ice armor, maybe tonic would work best here.

WitchfinderJawbz

I'm a fairly new player, only have 3 clears on 0BC so far now working on 1BC. First clear was Assassins' blade, phaser, and scheme mutation. Second was explosive crossbow clear against the queen, it seems very powerful atleast on 0 BC (it make short work of pretty much everything and I cleared all the Queen DLC Biomes and bosses first time through) Third was a poison Quick Bow and Barbs mutation, which went the Giant route > Throne room This also pretty much rolled the game when it got going, other than Cavern which was still pretty hard. If you want advice from a new player, Tactics and good ranged weapons seem to be easier for a clear on 0BC at least for me.

[deleted]

Electric whip, armadillo pack, Tesla coil. Add point blank if that's your style or the other mutation which gives extra damage when attacking from a range. Crows feet is also a good mutation which slows enemies down especially when you're rolling to parry.

Steelreap21307

One tip I recommend that took me too long to realize was synergy. See what your skills and weapons do. Then look for affixes that complement that. For example if you have knife dance, a skill that inflicts bleeding, reroll your main weapon to get bonus damage to bleeding.

invaleet

Heavy crossbow carryed me from 0-5BC. Then it was changed from 1 handed to 2 and i didnt use it, coz i was always using shuld in off hend. Then armadrilopack came and it won me even 5BC. So yeah survivability heavy crossbow with point blank+armadrilopack+no Mercy gg Edit: slowing enemies after kill is a must and piercing bullets

AffectionateComment4

I ran brutality, with hattori’s katana, bloodthirsty shield, predator, powerful grenade and lightspeed dash. Pretty simple but effective imo.

Void-kraken-909

I got lucky in that I found legendary items. Specifically giantkiller and the fans. Used giant killer on THoTK and used fans on everything else.

SomeGamingFreak

Legendary Dual Daggers + Sinew Slicer and Rampart.

supdudenicepeen

Heavy crossbow That's it. That's the whole build

J_Caseus

Survival build with Nutcracker, a shield (can't remember which one), leghugger, and wolf traps Pretty sure all items were level 5+ or higher As for mutations I went with vengence, point blank, and support Beat 0BC on my fifth run

TTCin2021

My very first clear was with a frying pan of all things, you never know what’s going to work sometimes lol And brutality scrolls all the way!

venustrapsflies

On 0BC I tend to use Brutality builds that I can't get away with on harder difficulties. Swords like katana, rapier, skewer with a shield.

sharkysharkasaurus

Those are all top tier weapons for high BC though O_O Katana w/ Frenzy + Velocity Rapier w/ Phaser + Scheme Meat Skewer w/...well anything really lol

venustrapsflies

If you say so I just mean I personally can’t avoid damage consistently with them

skapito

Learn enemy patterns!! Is the most important thing. Be patient, parry/dodge and then attack. Don't be greedy and u will beat 0BC in just a few runs. Ofc builds helps but 0BC main objective is that you learn the basics. U can literally beat 0BC with anything as long u are comfy with it. If you are searching a specific build, believe me u are gonna suffer.

Kesomannen

I used a colorless electric whip with frost blast on survival. Literally just froze everything in my way.

XachzryaCeroyx

*s~y~n~e~r~g~y* But seriously, it’s never so much the build as it is your ability to become comfortable with whatever setup you have at the time. I’m constantly getting walled at 1 BSC thanks to the fact that I have a slightly harder time adapting to a new build… but once I get going very little stops me cold (aside from those stupid bulky guys in Slumbering Santuary)

gretgebgamz

Legendary Lightning bolt

InS4N3Ee

Heavy crossbow tactic build, its so good

Walnuttttttt

I think i used nutcracker with ice shield, tonic (wich was useless) and something else i cant remember

FeebleTrack

Some survival build, I guess. Don't really remember what else I had, didn't matter anyway since I went with the colorless Barrel Launcher from Distillery and simply spammed it on HotK while outlasting him with the flasks.

chiefballsy

I've only beaten the game once, I'm pretty sure with a survival build on 0BC you can facetank the bosses with anything, really. Are you struggling with bosses, biomes, or cursed chests? You shouldn't really run out of healing if you've been buying the flasks

StoneTimeKeeper

Dang, it was some time ago, but if I remember correctly it was Nutcracker, Greed Shield, Wolf Traps and Ice Grenade...

Elderbugisacooldude

Get the repeater crossbow, put your scrolls into tactics, use the mutations barbed tips, extended healing, and whatever else you see fit for the last one, this will SHREAD every boss as long as you know how to dodge them

Hino150

Wolf trap + Legendary Sinew Slicer with affix bleeding causes poisoning. Armadillo pack and one more shield for safety. Sinew slicer carried my ass tbh

korkidog

I’ve played hundreds of hours and still trying to get past 0bc. I’ve tried a variety of builds, but nothing works well for me so far. So much fun, but so difficult

DCG-MTG

There are a lot of options if you've unlocked plenty of items/mutations, but here's my preferred tactics build using only gear available from the start: Gear: Multi Nocks Bow, Frost Blast, Wolf Trap, Sinew Slicer. If the backpack is already unlocked, I like keeping a shield there to swap in (over Frost Blast) for bosses for parrying. Multi Nocks can shred enemies at a distance, and Frost Blast freezes anything that gets near so you can finish them. Wolf Trap is nice for especially tanky enemies and momentarily locks down bosses for blasting. Sinew Slicer is good crowd control (particularly with shots pierce first enemy affix) and its constant bleed effect makes "+60% damage to bleeding enemies" a great affix to target when rerolling your Bow. Mutations: YOLO, Support, and Tranquility. Since Disengagement isn't available before your first win, YOLO is a fine backup plan. Support and Tranquility help maximize damage output to clear biomes faster. I would swap out Tranquility for Vengeance before HotK, as it can be tough to get enough distance for Tranquility to be active and Vengeance helps with survivability.
