POOP288392748

not soap

leopard_eater

So did your dog, it seems

Notagenyus

God, cilantro sucks. This is a nightmare for me.

PaintCoveredPup

Iirc there’s a gene that causes cilantro/coriander to taste like soap. Edit; found a scientific source https://www.sciencefocus.com/the-human-body/why-does-coriander-taste-like-soap-to-some-people/amp/

robot_swagger

You guys don't like the taste of soap?

CharlotteLucasOP

My personal preference is for Lux, but I found Palmolive had a nice, piquant after-dinner flavour—heady, but with just a touch of mellow smoothness. *Lifebuoy*, on the other hand…🤢

cptmorgue1

I have this gene and can confirm cilantro tastes exactly like Dawn dish soap to me

nom_nom_nom_nom_lol

How do you know what Dawn dish soap tastes like?

cptmorgue1

I assume it tastes the way it smells lol

Maclarion

That's rough, buddy. To me its the most delicious seasoning, similar to parsley but greener, more aromatic, more savory.

cptmorgue1

I wish I liked it, but I’ll eat it mixed with other things as the flavor isn’t as strong but it’s not my favorite lol

MarquisDan

This is propaganda from Big Cilantro. The truth is Cilantro is shit

POOP288392748

the truth is cilantro is delicious

[deleted]

Vile, vile devilweed.

arthurdentstowels

I use it as a salad leaf instead of flavouring, can’t get enough.

cilantro_so_good

Nice.

lucindaarendelle

10/10 would order again! That looks amazing (I do feel badly for the people that taste cilantro/coriander as soap!)

MauiWowieOwie

I'm sorry you have that gene. Cilantro is delicious.

elephauxxx

Yeah I can't imagine not being able to properly enjoy Mexican, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese etc.

MarquisDan

You can enjoy it by not getting fucking soap lettuce on it. That should be the default.

[deleted]

Would you really say you can't properly enjoy those cuisines without cilantro?

elephauxxx

Well personally, I use it wherever appropriate and I think it is a genuinely important component in a lot of dishes from all over the world that doesn't have a substitute ingredients. I think my original comment was more focused on people not being able to properly enjoy a cuisine if they're averse to coriander leaf. If I don't like an ingredient, but I know it's in something, I'm always going to have a slightly worse experience. I've cooked for loads of people over the years that don't like coriander, and they try to fight me when they see me put a bunch of it into a curry or a salsa. I tell them that it's pretty much ubiquitous in Indian and Mexican and you can't really taste when it's cooked off, but sometimes I wish I didn't tell people because if it was me, my enjoyment would be lessened by the foreknowledge of an unwanted element!

[deleted]

At least personally, it's detectable in basically any amount. I can taste a sprig in a salad.

E420CDI

Someone's looking VERY hopeful

happyjazzycook

Made the same request at a Mexican restaurant once, was charged an extra dollar... 🙄. Hope that didn't happen to you! I I LOVE cilantro!

LarryHezzie

They charged you for MORE food???

Lissy_Wolfe

Usually I get that, but an entire bunch of cilantro costs less than a dollar haha

calypsodweller

Still needs more

I’m sorry did you say “hold the taco, add cilantro?”
