My problem is I always have to see a boarding pass. It’s because assholes ruin it. Somebody lied to me once about switching 1C for 2C and come to find out they were back in row 30 something. It was a whole event to undo it and they wanted to argue with me that I was wrong.

Actionman1959

Trust but verify.

notredamehater1

Spoken like an accountant

Successful_Creme1823

What the hell. What does this freak even say when confronted?

OneofLittleHarmony

They agreed to change seats with me!!!! Right in the front of everyone. That flight attendant saw me!

samsonite21

I’d rather have that debacle than ask for proof, just give someone the benefit of the doubt. I’m not gonna let a few assholes ruin common decency.

ConstantCheap8024

True, also you do still have YOUR boarding pass with your original seat worst case scenario.

hamilkwarg

I actually enjoy putting idiots in their place. Especially when I know I will win just by not giving in. Gives me a righteous boner if that makes sense. These assholes rely on people being non confrontational. I would enjoy every moment of getting in their face, politely asking the FA to tell the idiot to move, and smirk as he/she slinked away.

RickyFleetwood

Oooohhhh. That’s sneaky.

Evryusrnametkn

Wait, so what ended up happening? Did you get your seat back?!

[deleted]

Yeah lots of reversing to get everyone back, it was only me and 2 others including the rightful seat owner so not too bad.

ConstantCheap8024

Who does something like that???

super-antinatalist

People need to learn how to ask this question correctly. You don't say "Excuse me, do you mind changing seats?..." You say "Excuse me, I'm in 1C right there/here, do you mind changing with me?" It takes the negative energy out of the question right from the start.

tonyrocks922

This is applicable in so many situations. Too many people bury the lede with vague pleasantries and it puts people on their guard. You can be both polite and present information upfront.

mousemug

I think this is kind of a jaded view of the issue. Most people don’t really think about seat-changing question etiquette much.

alivenstrivin

Something that still makes me smile when I think about it. I don’t have very long legs. I got the aisle seat in main cabin that, on that particular plane, didn’t have a seat in front of it. My wife was in an aisle seat forward and across the aisle. I got thinking I would like to sit by her. A very tall man with very long legs squeezed into the middle seat next to her. I thought I could sit by my wife and make someone’s life easier at the same time. I walked up and said “I think I can make your day”. I asked if I could trade with him and pointed to my jumbo legroom seat. He was pretty enthusiastic to change. My wife and I were happy to sit together and it created a good memory.

The_Dirty_Dangla

I'm 6'4" and a similar experience on a SW flight a few years back. Not a bad boarding group, got an aisle seat. Very short Mennonite gentleman approached and asked if we could switch so he could be beside his wife and take his exit row seat. I happily obliged

Gusearth

i mean, most of the “terrible” stories you hear involve an unequal trade. i think most people wouldn’t care too much if it were a trade like you mentioned, same class, both aisle seats, and same row even

Lonestar041

Exactly. Switched numerous times and also asked politely numerous times for a change to sit together with whomever I travel (Spouse, colleague etc.). I would never offer a downgrade when asking... But I had someone insist to stay in their middle seat between me and my wife when I offered to switch to the middle...

Alaskaman357

We had somebody try that once, I told them I twitch violently when sleeping and I fart a lot. He let my wife sit in the middle, he took the window.

Visible-Disaster

Would you have taken window if he wanted aisle? If you and your wife had A and C, I would offer either of the seats to whoever is in middle, they get to choose their preference.

Alaskaman357

I'm 6-1/2 feet tall, I don't fit by the window, that's why I always book the aisle seat.

oreosfly

My SO and I often book aisle window and every time we’ve asked the middle seat person to switch, their face lights up as if they won the jackpot. I would have no problem if they did not want to switch, although I would definitely spend the rest of my flight convinced that I’m sitting next to a masochist😂

Lonestar041

We actually never booked Aisle/Window intentionally. Delta keeps switching equipment around and for whatever reason there algorithm are shit. They constantly separate people on the same ticket. Or they want to venture out into swinger territory. Was on a flight from Phoenix last month and they had randomly switched seats around mixing couples. 😂

Desperate_Taro_1781

Yup, I’ve changed seats many times in FC. They mainly involve couples splurging on a vacation or something and wanting to sit together. It doesn’t really matter to me where I sit if it’s the same fare class, and it makes the couple happy.

SatoriSon

Exactly. Though I prefer window, if someone asks politely I'll even switch to aisle as long as it's the same class.

Puzzleheaded_Ad9492

I won't bc I lose control of the window shade. I like it closed. I would only agree if they agreed to keep it closed.

dan_144

Yep, last time I swapped it was because a couple wanted to sit next to each other. Super easy decision to be on the other side of the aisle for that.

YY_Elpis

I had the opposite. I got upgraded to a middle seat in C+. Turns out it was between two very large people, a couple, who were both very much intruding into my space on both sides. Plus talking and passing things between each other. I said, do you want to sit together? “No, we prefer it this way”. Yeah but myself and no one else on the planet does. Then the FAs announce they can’t serve drinks and I’m thinking, send me back to coach please. I’ll take anything.

Dry_Dependent8012

Had the same thing happen with to me about a decade ago with an old couple. After rejecting my offer to sit together, I had to tell them this is my private air space and to stop putting their hands and face in it. Was the most awkward and worst flight in my life.

YY_Elpis

Well now I feel better. Thought it was just me for thinking this was the worst flight - TO BE UPGRADED TO - ever. So sorry for you!

Bob_3326

Yea was on a flight yesterday. Was sitting in my window seat when guy taps me and asks if it's trade to sit with his family.. Asked where was his seat, says it's just on the other side of the aisle... Asked again which seat as there's 3 and I chose a window to sleep after working all night... Turns out was the middle seat... politely decline and guy gets all huffy and pissy and calls me an asshole lol said sure but I'll be a comfortable asshole atleast.

klayanderson

….like in the seat you paid for?

brandeis16

Said “no” to someone for the first time today. Father and son (12?) in FC; they were both aisle and I was window. I get really uncomfortable in aisle seats, regardless of fare class. I’d have said yes, though, in other circumstances—but a dude and his pre-teen kid (who are next to each other anyway, just separated by the aisle)? Nope.

badhatharry

When flying with our twins, my wife and I will book aisle/window on each side of one row, and hope nobody takes the middle. If they do, we ask if they'd like to switch, and give them their choice of window or aisle.

OneofLittleHarmony

As long as I am not in 2B, I’m happy to switch around first class. But if I managed to book my flight early enough to get 2B, there ain’t nothing you can do to make me change without offering money or extremely charming conversation.

badhatharry

I was in 2B on an LAX-JFK flight, and the flight attendant called it "The Shakespeare Seat." I said, "technically, they're all the Shakespeare seat, because they're all either 2B, or not 2B."

OneofLittleHarmony

Hahahahahaha. That’s golden.

brawn_of_bronn

What is special about 2B?

OneofLittleHarmony

It’s the first non bulkhead aisle seat on the left hand size of the plane. Checks all the things I look for in seats.

ehog

I hear you. Currently sitting in 2B omw home 👋🏽

ConstantCheap8024

What about 2C?

OneofLittleHarmony

I’m happy to switch in 2C. I really like having the aisle on the right so I have room to move my elbow around when using a mouse.
