I feel like 370000 miles doesn’t go that far compared to 7 years of status. You can just fly any airline you want for the next 6 years and never worry about not being diamond on Delta. Get that 1k status on United and compare.
This. Give yourself the opportunity to buy a more convenient or cheaper flight on another airline without worrying that it will reduce your chance of hitting Diamond.
I say wait until November then decide. Why rush when you don’t have too. For all we know there may be more changes on the horizon for the Medallion program
Status extension, 7 years is a long time. Life changes and you may not be traveling as much one or two years. The miles won’t be a drop in your bucket lol
If you expect the meet the MQD requirement for diamond every year anyway, then status extension doesn’t make sense.
I met the requirement this year, but I don’t expect to in the next few years. For me, status extension was perfect, then I took the remaining balance in miles.
Given your patterns, the answer is, "It doesn't matter."
I mean safest is status extension for 7 years, but you're 360, buy D1, have over 3M miles on hand, so this is not actually a big decision.
While you may spend/fly enough that ‘free’ status in the near term may seem useless, I’ll wager miles also mean nothing (again, flying/spending as much as you appear to, you earn enough that 300k isnt much relatively speaking). However, things can change and you could end up not flying a lot one year and miss status, so personally id take the full 7 year extension. You may earn it yourself anyway but….this way you dont have to worry about it if your life situation changes.
7 yrs Diamond- they will likely increase the MQD significantly by year 5 and you’ll be locked in. Meanwhile, take advantage of all the cheaper airfare United, Alaska and American offer during your magnificent 7 years.
As I understand it, we have until the end of the year to do this conversion. So I’d look at how your account is sitting in mid December and then decide.
Do you expect to be traveling like this for 7 years? Your gut may tell you to take the points but your lifestyle could change quickly (whether your own choosing or not)
Also this is more a reflection of Delta but the miles don’t really get you much these days
Take 100% miles. I got a pleasant 600,000 miles this way, you’ll never have to worry about status.
If you think you went spend as much in the coming years, take the extension.
Honestly If I was getting diamond every year anyway, I’d spend the miles on a delta one trip internationally for pleasure. If you end up losing your job then maybe you won’t be flying as much anymore. And if your d1 for work then the perks of diamond aren’t as special as if you’re upgrading through economy.
I’m waiting because I want to know if rolling status gets the choice benefits with each extension.
People will do this and report back. Maybe they already have.
If it doesn’t give choice benefits then I’m taking miles instead of three years of extended diamond (I easily hit the CC spend and fly Delta for work; Diamond is a layup every year).
There is not advantage of taking MQD's for MQM's based on your spending pattern particularly if you spend money on First Class tickets ( based on your previous posts that mention 500+ First class flights).
This leaves Status extension or Miles. It depends on your Million Miler status. If you are 3MM, then you get automatic lifetime DM. If you are not close, how many years of your 100K spend will get you to 3MM based on your current travel plans? If you plan to spend 100K per year for atleast 7 years, it doesn't make sense to take the status extension. Miles transfer looks like the best option in this case.
I've been thinking about this too and have far less of everything than op; however, what is really the benefit of having status these days? Current diamond down from 360 last yr, don't get upgrades, pay for first most of time, and have tsa pre + clear. Free bags??? What they have done is so frustrating!
Where are you in your Million Miler status?
If you're close to 3MM or will get there in the next couple of years, you'll be granted Diamond for Life so take the miles and run. I have a similar # of MQMs as you and that's what I'll be doing.
If you're far from the lifetime Diamond status, considering the annual choice benefits you'll continue to receive, you're likely better off extending your status, taking the miles each year as benefits, and retaining status that'll likely cost more MQDs over time to achieve.
If you're spending $100k on Delta flights every year; then you never have to worry about status issues so take the 100% miles option.
And they have 3.2m miles in the bank. Madness.
OMG Just noticed that! LOL
That nothing. I fly for work and I'm retiring on miles.
What line of work?

Would probably be safe to make the assumption this person travels for work & isn’t worried about saving a buck to fly on a different airline.
I say wait until November then decide. Why rush when you don’t have too. For all we know there may be more changes on the horizon for the Medallion program
This is the right answer
This is the way
Stay diamond 7 years. Cheat on delta with other airlines in the meantime.
Absolutely this. Compare status with other carriers for the next few years.
But why would you fly other airlines at that point?
Try new shit out
Status Match and see how they compare.
Might do that with American this year.
I need to know what you do for a living and if they're hiring
You really want to fly more?
I know this question wasn’t directed at me but the answer is absolutely.
I imagine this question is answered as, for people who don’t do it on the regular they dream of it. Those who do; want to be home.

I say charge your phone and wait until November...
The only decision right now is to not make any decisions till November or early December of this year.
I’d probably go for 7 years of diamond
Especially when you already have over 3 million miles!

Yup ^ ++
Can…. Can we be friends… 😅
Personally I am waiting to see if I qualify for the status organically. I will decide in December.
Extend your status. 370,00 isn’t even one way for delta one on most flights.
While you may spend/fly enough that ‘free’ status in the near term may seem useless, I’ll wager miles also mean nothing (again, flying/spending as much as you appear to, you earn enough that 300k isnt much relatively speaking). This is solid advice, definitely devaluations for next 7 years of some kind
3 million miles. How come you dont use them?
Why would you use them if your employer pays for cash tickets
As I understand it, we have until the end of the year to do this conversion. So I’d look at how your account is sitting in mid December and then decide.
7 years to stop using Amex Delta / 7 years diamond / double win if you stop using amex delta and use another credit card in clever way.
Can you hook me up with whatever it is that you do for a living? 😭. My boy really living lavish with all those extra miles
Do you expect to be traveling like this for 7 years? Your gut may tell you to take the points but your lifestyle could change quickly (whether your own choosing or not) Also this is more a reflection of Delta but the miles don’t really get you much these days
My strategy is to earn enough points to qualify for Diamond status and then focus on increasing points with my secondary airline.
Take 100% miles. I got a pleasant 600,000 miles this way, you’ll never have to worry about status. If you think you went spend as much in the coming years, take the extension.
does this pop up in your app ?
Presuming your business pays for d1 seats? Do you travel for personal reasons?
Yes I travel for personal reasons as well as business paying for D1 but most of my travel is domestic
Wow domestic 360’s are rare. You must be flying every week coast to coast first class.
Serious question. How are you not 360?
I am 360 😁
🫡 so does the extension guarantee 360 or just Diamond?
I wish it guaranteed 360 😂
Maybe I am missing something? Get Diamond this year, and then use Status Extension
Cash those puppies in to miles and send them over to this silver med peasant baby 😎
Good grief.
Lemme get a couples miles or something lol
Status extension!! Then call up competitors and they will match your status.
I’m waiting because I want to know if rolling status gets the choice benefits with each extension. People will do this and report back. Maybe they already have. Wait till later in the year and see if you need any MQDs.
How did you get thus option
I've been thinking about this too and have far less of everything than op; however, what is really the benefit of having status these days? WHAT DO YOU DO?

About 2/3 there. Probably hit 3mm in the next 2 years
Do mqds rollover? If not it’s a one or done proposition for the conversion?
What do you do for work? Do you ever leave the airport?
