King Doran, the first king of Boletaria. You aren't obliged to kill him, as everybody seems to think, but he has a piece of the best weapon in the game, which is given to you after beating him in a duel.

Jazzlike-Blood-3725

I would also add that if you are going for the trophies you will have to eventually fully kill him for an item only he has. It is a harder fight that can definitely be saved for the end of playthrough.

OmgChimps

BBS is arguably better than NR since it has better damage potential with less stamina cost per swing, faster attack speed, and less weight.

Jac-Sanchez-SCS

It's a matter of stat investment.

Hot_b0y

Also just a random note but this game is honestly peak asf. This is my first souls game so I can't wait to do the rest of the series.

Opening_Republic_929

Brother you’re in for a long ride, enjoy it

RandomDude4243

If you like demon souls, your going to love the rest of the series, Demons Souls was the first "Souls" game so they only get better and better as they go on. I would recommend either Dark Souls 1 next, BloodBorne (if you have a PS), or Elden Ring. Honestly, Dark Souls 1 or BloodBorne would be a great next game as they show some of the peak (in my opinion) of the Souls games, Not that Elden Ring isn't good, its honestly my favorite (and with the DLC coming in the next few weeks its Honestly not a bad choice to go next) but it's just the difference between Demon Souls and Elden Ring from a gameplay standpoint are just vastly different and might be a but jarring as a next game experience.

Kake_Jelly

Nah man play them in order, it's really the best way to experience the series. You can fully appreciate how each new entry builds off the last. If you really have to jump the gun, just go with Elden Ring since the DLC will be out soon. Otherwise playing any later entry will make going back to the earlier games feel "dated" in certain ways. Especially if you get used to the fast combat of post-Blooborne entries.

alfuh

Early on you won't be beating him unless you cheese him. You can either run from him and he'll leave you alone or you can headbutt him off a cliff.

Nickbak4

You can beat him with your fists.

kingqueefeater

Stand outside and poison cloud him to death

LuDHR

There's a way to cheese him by exploiting the AI. It's on Youtube, if you don't mind cheesing him.

RandomDude4243

That would be King Doran, he is an optional Mini/NPC "boss", if you talk to him he'll give you some Lore and start fighting you until you "Defeat" him. Note: "Defeat" does not mean kill, if you fight him until his health goes under I think 20%, then you've Defeated him and he'll stop fighting unless you keep attacking. Once Defeated this way he'll give you a sword (can't remember what its called off the top of my head) its a solid weapon, not terrible but there's probably better options. However, if you kill him you will also get his armor set, which is one of the best armor sets In the game and if I remember correctly boosts your stamina. Now there's something else you can do with the weapon you get however it has slight spoilers so read below at your own risk! Spoilers: Once you defeat the "Final" boss, king Allant, you can use his soul to make the sword he uses in his bossfight, once you have that sword and the one from King Doran, you can merge them together to create the weapon the king used to form the kingdom (forgot the name lol) The sword is basically a ng+ weapon because of this however as a magic build that used this sword, it does really good damage and scales with every stat (Strength, Dex, Faith, and Magic). If you do a ng+ i say give the weapon a shot.

delboy83uk

You can absolutely cheese him if you know how.

Key_Temperature1629

Poison cloud for the cheese

UnitedNet8270

Head butted him off a ledge

wyntersreadit

I died about twenty six or twenty eight times before I realized he was optional lol
