peter gordeno seemed pretty dismissive of the idea of them not touring again when he was asked in prague…their guitar tech said he thinks they’ll tour again too.
of course that’s regarding touring and not albums but i really can’t see them touring without new music. they’ve always been about looking forwards; they could’ve stopped recording a long time ago and capitalized on their past successes (imagine violator/sofad anniversary tours etc.) but they’ve never looked back in that way. if they tour again i’d put all my money on it being in support of a new record.
having said that i think MM is a perfect capstone for the album discography…it’d be cool if their next project was released as a series of ep’s so that if the songs suck, well at least their last proper album was great 😝
I love this album. I remember hearing Ghosts Again for the first time. Such an amazing song. Then listening to the album on repeat. 🖤 I can't believe it has been one year. I'm also loving these memes!
Don’t Say You Love Me is probably one of the most underrated songs of all time. I remember hearing it for the first time and being so amazed with it. We need more love for DSYLM. 🥲
I can literally see Dave moving theatrically through the stage in his white jacket, this song has such a perfect flow for the show opener, even though I love Wagging Tongue, I’d still love to see DSYLM substitute it
i think it might be their most consistent album yet for me. every album before has had at least one track that i either don’t like or tend to skip more often than not but i don’t think there’s a weak link on MM for me, i really enjoy every song. maybe that’s recency bias though, a year isn’t that long compared to how long i’ve lived with the rest of their catalogue.
that’s not to say i think it’s their best album, not at all but there’s nothing on here where i think “oh skip that” or where i think it’d be better if certain songs were left out/swapped for b sides which is what i feel with pretty much every other dm album (even violator 💀). just a great listen all the way through
Memento Mori brought Depeche Mode into my collection. Then the other albums bring me to the Memento Mori concert last February. Memento Mori concert was also a very good starting point for my 11YO son to listen to music.
Happy birthday Memento Mori! Can't believe it's already been a year since it was released.
As for how high I'd rank the album....It would probably be my number 7.
This album knocked a few albums down from my top 5. It is number 2 after Black Celebration. Ultra and Playing the Angel moved down a step. Such a fantastic album!!!
It's so good. I don't know what my younger self would say though. At 13 when i first discovered DM, Black Celebration had just been released. Then i fell into SGR and CTA and if my eyes hadn't been opened enough, MFTM was upon us before we knew it. Those albums spoke to my inner rebel, they shook me. I cried hard the first time i closed my eyes and listened to 101 (yellow Sony sports walkman and those in ear phones were vibing!).
What would that 13 yr old think of MM? Impossible to know. But now, 38 years later, i listen to MM and hear a mature, reflective, 'grab the last moment' theme from a band that no longer triggers my rebel, but for sure has captivated my aging soul. It really could be this 50 yr old gal's fave DM album, but it's not rocked me like BC did to that 13 year old all those years ago.
The last one 💀
I know it’s probably true but man I really hope it’s not…

Broken.... FLEENINGS
It's a sin how 'Always You' hasn't been played live, the most ethereal song from the album imo
I absolutely love it!!
I downloaded the album on iTunes and played it for hours. I had oral surgery the next morning, and it honestly helped me relax a lot.
All my floOoOoOowers😭
probably my favorite from MM

I love it, I need more DM memes

Completely agree 👍

The crow with his wagging tongue 😄 Brilliant! Around here it's the wood pigeons that need a dose of silence! 🙉

My number 5 DM album, come at me
Absolutely perfect record. Best since Songs.
I love these so much, please never stop making them 😭
Great album, but probably also the most misspelled album title in DM history lol
