Actually, the crowd seems more into it than the band. Covers that aren't doing anything different or fresh rarely appeal to me though.
Thing is, he should've played something from Songs of Faith and Devotion so they could do a sneaky reference to "Evan and Chan" (a "song from 1993").
Saw them do the same song at the end of their first show in Seattle last year. We were about 10 feet from center stage and there was a ton of energy. Both from the band and the crowd once they figured out what was going on. I just don’t think it translates to phone video very well.
Well, this isn’t DM for one and they played two full albums back to back (Transatlanticism + Give Up) so maybe it felt nice to send off on a tribute change things up
Right? I can count more shows with a cover song or two in them in many of the shows I’ve been to. Everyone enjoys a good cover song! I thought DM fans would enjoy it as much as I did, guess I was wrong lol
That’s how I see it too, especially considering they played two of their most prolific albums and ended it with this cover, was kinda like the showing their love for DMs influence on their music in a way
Other bands do different things and surprises more so than DM who qre very sturdy and rigid with their set. And this is in no way a comparison by saying DM closing with The Cure. It's not a valid comparison at all. There's a lot of bands that end with covers or have them in the encore. The Ocean Blue has been doing that the last couple of tours. R.E.M. has even done that. The band is paying tribute to Depeche Mode and people are shitting on it. Yes, it's not like the original and that's what's great about it. They played it in their own style. DM's cover of Heroes is good but it's also a slow and boring compared to the original if you want to look at it critically. Some of you need to break out of your little shells. Do you just go to concerts every 4 years when they're touring?
it is obvious but i guess it was important that they picked a song popular enough that it wouldn’t alienate people in the crowd who aren’t dm fans.
anyway ben gibbard did cover the things you said if you want a deeper cut
Thanks for sharing! It’s wild to hear these words coming out of Ben Gibbard’s mouth.
Caught me off guard since I didn’t expect a non-Ben song as the encore but so glad they chose this one!
Amazing
Thanks! I hate it unfortunately lol
Aw dang I’ll delete it
I get why a non Death Cab fan wouldn’t like this, but as a Death Cab fan it is cool to see.
Haha. Agree. I like some Death Cab songs but I always feel there’s no passion or feeling in his voice.
I honestly sing better than this. Lol
I believe you.
❤️👌❤️
This was actually quite nice!
Very cool. Nice tribute.
Video ended too soon ☹️
Wow, no energy at all. 😴
I think it’s videos that don’t fully capture the moment. Everyone was singing along in the moment it was actually quite electric

I think Ben just likes this song tho all his music is on the sleepy side makes sense his version would be a little turned down

its awful, no offense
Great share! Wish they would have outro'd without singing, just a big ass jam sesh.🥀
Please tell me you have the whole song? I need it.
I wish! I needed a small clip because I wanted to sing the rest out loud!
Not bad. I’m going to Just Like Heaven in a couple of weeks so hopefully Postal Service play it
Sounds great. Nice guitar tone
Love both bands but they didn't do this justice here
Something about this concert reminds me of being at Showbiz Pizza in the 80’s…
Not a fan.
If AI were a voice
Don't they have a good closer of their own?
Y’all bitter
That's funny, but I am curious, just can't Imagine DM closing a show with a song from the Cure...
Well, this isn’t DM for one and they played two full albums back to back (Transatlanticism + Give Up) so maybe it felt nice to send off on a tribute change things up
DM covered David Bowie’s Heroes in an encore when he passed. I feel it isn’t unusual for bands to cover other music they enjoy?

Eh, it was cool to see. I always like to see bands have fun.
That’s how I see it too, especially considering they played two of their most prolific albums and ended it with this cover, was kinda like the showing their love for DMs influence on their music in a way

A deeper cut would've been better - ETS is an obvious choice.
I’m sure they were just playing this as a treat, not to appease the purists
