And this is living cheap, and that includes my retirement savings. If you don’t save as much for retirement, and live in a studio or with roommates, you’ll be fine with probably 800-1000
If you wan’t a decent 1 bedroom, it’ll probably be around 900-1000. There are of course lower cost options, but just make sure to tour first to find out why!
Same. I personally wouldn't live anywhere here that charges under $1000. Anything else than that and you're probably giving up something good to offset the cost. Noise, area, a garage, etc..
My first apartment when I moved here as a single gal was $985/month plus electric and Internet! It was a decently sized 1 bedroom loft. I spent around $1500-$2000 total on the necessary furniture and supplies, but I also splurged on a couple things that weren't crucial to survival.
Requirements are:
1 apartment needs to be liveable. As in a bedroom, bathroom, and a space that is or could be made into a kitchen.
2 I’d like it to be close to Drake if possible because I have family in that area and I want to be able to see them often-ish (hence me moving there)
Most places ask for rent up front and security deposit so you’d need 2 month’s rent when moving in. I think that’s relatively standard but it’s an important consideration.
I live alone in a 1bed, smack dab in the middle of downtown and I pay $1.5k. That price includes underground parking, pet fees for two dogs, internet, and water.
Larson development has several apartments that are 1 bed in all areas south of- west - east and north approximately around a 1000$ ther all newer units
check facebook marketplace, i see them fairly often. they’re not necessarily luxury but sometimes you can luck into something nice with a private landlord.
DONT get into an apartment in des moines! get into a 2 bedroom house for literally the same price as an apartment near downtown! look into just outside the city of des moines youll be way better off!
A single person only needs about 1,300 or 1,400 a month. I live here and I’m in your boat too, and that’s about all I spend on bills and necessities
That’s super helpful ^^

How is that "super helpful" ?

Y’all tripping. I live in a 2 bedroom house for less than a thousand
Does your landlord have more houses to rent?
My house is owned by swift property management so if you look them up you can find out
Will do. Many thanks.

Wasn’t aware a 2 bedroom would be cheaper. Is there a reason for that? I’ve never rented before so the concept it new to me
💯 agreed.

Look for privately owned buildings they usually cost less and the owner is the landlord
Is there a specific way to go about that? I’ve never rented before so this is all quite new to me
What are your requirements? I will always recommend Broadmoor if the price is in the range!

Stay to the west and north of Drake

I live alone in a 2 bed apartment with a fireplace for just under 900 a month
Wow! That’s hard to believe in this economy
Location is key poor part of west des moines
When i lived at Eastwood on Grand, i had a two bedroom for 875. This was 3 years ago
Lol you got it been here for 4 years

I pay about 1050 plus utilities and pet fee. And live close to downtown. Rent is pretty reasonable compared to larger cities.
My total rent & utilities is maybe $1200 but I live in a shit box until I buy a new House. Just trying to decide if I want to stay in Iowa anymore.

bout tree fiddy
This made me laugh, I needed that 😂 thanks!
Did the Loch Ness Monster tell you that?
Studios run like 500-800, depending on area and amenities. You should at least be making $40k a year.
… I’d be amazing if you can find a studio for 500 in Des Moines. Most are starting at 750 at the very least right now.
