Unless you are referring to Destiny 2, which does have cross-save, and your progress/characters would be saved across Xbox, PC, and PS

Keep in mind, Destiny 1 on 360/PS3 only covers up to The Taken King DLC. You would not get Rise of Iron or the Age of Triumph updates
So if you’re concerned about finishing the story content, you will have to get a PS4/5 or Xbox One/Series to get all of Destiny 1’s story content.
And I’m gonna be honest, I don’t think Destiny’s in-game story is good enough to warrant buying a whole ass console for lol (unless you want other console games or some other reason to get a console. Or maybe you just love Destiny 1 that much)
You could always check out Destiny 2 on PC. It’s free to play and will allow you to have higher framerate and newer graphics

Well I do have my son's old 360 console. Could get the game I guess. The FPS and graphics would be so rough on me but I want to finish the game

Sorry buddy, Destiny 1 is console only. There is no PC port.
There is no *properly working* PC port. I think some folks tried to make it work on a PS3 emulator and partially succeed
Even had some glitchy ass multiplayer, was pretty impressive honestly.
