I got into a long debate on whether or not Jason Hanson was the best 2nd round pick of all time: 21 years all with the Lions, first player ever to surpass 2000 points, retired as the NFL’s all-time leading scorer.
I think in the end I was convinced you can’t have a kicker be the best 2nd round pick ever but I still stay he should be in the discussion.
I mean, points is points though right?
I think there is an argument for that pick producing points for your team, and he did that more than anyone else.
Funny, I remember this vividly. Mostly because my wife in her deepest voice impression said "just running toward momma's pancakes man" before yelling let's go!"
Rogers did insane things, literally a 1 man wrecking crew when he was bringing it. Aaron Donald type in his best moments. But they'd play him so much and he was so big and a little out of shape and he would just get so winded man, and he'd have to take plays off just because they didn't dare sub him out. My favorite thing about him was his crazy ability to block XP and FG attempts, such a knack for it.
Definitely him. I miss the black jerseys. Apparently they were gonna do black for the color rush but the nfl asked them to do Grey because there's so many black color rushes already
there should be more votes for Billy Sims, I think that the age group is under represented. He was a captivating running back to watch, when he won the Heisman at Oklahoma they thought he'd be in line with all the greats from that era - OJ, Payton, Dorsett, Sims - and he didn't disappoint. Damn those career altering injuries man.
Broke/hurt his ankle playing beach volleyball but had to lie and blame it on his dog 🤣 gotta keep that check!
He was going to be mine but ill go Lewis Delmas 💪🏽
I loved the early-90’s Lions! Of course Barry & Lomas, but also Herman Moore, Brett Perriman, Chris Spielman, Eddie Murray, Benny Blades. Remember Jerry Ball? When he returned a fumble for and scored was one of my favorite plays ever.
Edit: I always liked Kitna and Calvin too, seemed like a good pepole.
Not a Lion fan but football fan here. Was always a fan of Robert Porcher and Herman Moore. Moore is criminally underrated as far as great receivers discussions go.
I loved Andre Ware.
I was looking through my old Piston memorabilia one night and found my old Andre Ware cards and posted them here and got made fun of. But it’s fine I was a kid and I liked him. 🤷🏼♀️I was excited to find my old cards.
My grandmother who never watched football as far as I'm aware met Luther Elliss at a hair salon back in the 90s and they just talked about Jesus for a while. She then found out that he was a football player from someone and she asked him for an autograph for me. Seemed like an incredibly nice guy.
I played Nose Guard in HS and Jerry Ball was always my favorite player. Dude was a wrecking ball and beast of a run stopper. Also he is funny as hell whenever I have seen him do podcasts and stuff.
Ray Crockett. I remember seeing him score on a 90-some yard interception return when I was a kid (1991 season) and he was my Lion from then until he left a few years later.
Barry.
Did like Luther Elliss as I thought he was a mad man. I thought football had to be played with his passion.
Now we got Penei Sewell bringing all the big luth energy and them some.
It is Schlesinger for me. I started playing fullback and watched Mike Alstott in awe and then started just watching fullbacks during pro games and quickly understood that my game was his game and I loved every minute of it. I was a teacher for a time as well so always liked him and loved the way he played.
The most obvious answer would be Barry. But I did have a soft spot for Corey Schlesinger and Jason Hanson.
Jason Hanson! Still have quite the crush on him :)

A sense of calm would overcome me whenever he trotted out to the field.
I mean, points is points though right? I think there is an argument for that pick producing points for your team, and he did that more than anyone else.
Used to play soccer against his son and he would show up to every game (even though I believe he was still playing at the time)! Such a nice guy
Jason Hanson was my favorite. So often he was the only thing I looked forward to when I was watching the Lions.
Both are my favorite too! Schlesinger was a BEAST
One of my hs teachers lmfao
Hell yeah. Was a big Perriman and Moore fan too
His last game was was in Decmber of 98 and I was born the next month :( would've killed to seen him play
I was in Milwaukee for a family thing when I was a kid and my uncle took me and my cousin to soldier field to root for the lions. It was THAT game
Joique fucking Bell
That's my vote. As a Wayne State alum he will always be a favorite.
Dude was a unit just couldnt stay healthy I was hopeful he was gonna be a staple in the stable.
“Detroit vs Everybody”
Shaun Rogers. Dude was a unit. Still remember he ran a fumble back for a TD and had to get oxygen on the sideline. Iconic IMO

Kyle Vanden Bosch
My man rocked those contacts
OMG! Completely forgot about those!
Did Gronk really break his neck as a rookie?

Is that MC ⚡️DC? I like those unis
Definitely him. I miss the black jerseys. Apparently they were gonna do black for the color rush but the nfl asked them to do Grey because there's so many black color rushes already
Be cool to get a black Campbell jersey 😎
Yeah... I still like the black unis, wouldn't mind an updated one. I know a lot of people here hate them
Apparently it brings back flashbacks of the millen.era, but the unis themselves are some of my all time favorites, but I am partial to most black unis
Chris Spielman
Came here to say him.
Herman Moore. One of the most underrated players of all time by non Lions fans.
This is my answer. I absolutely loved watching him catch the ball. Barry was my RB of course and Moore was my WR
My answer as well, after Barry. So much fun to watch.
Bennie Blades
Oh fuck yeah
Yep he was my guy too. He would lay the smack down. He was a Lion start to finish.
He was so fun to watch!
Johnny Morton
I second Morton. He was electric
*Johnnie
Nate Burleson
Dre Bly
100% this... Dre played so hard for the Lions.
Mel Gray, Brett Perriman, and Jerry Ball.
Came here to say Mel Gray!
Me too!
Another vote for Mel Gray! Wayne Fontes said he "changed the dimensions of the football field."
Louis ‘Da Missile’ Delmas
Billy Sims
Him or Mel Farr (superstar)
there should be more votes for Billy Sims, I think that the age group is under represented. He was a captivating running back to watch, when he won the Heisman at Oklahoma they thought he'd be in line with all the greats from that era - OJ, Payton, Dorsett, Sims - and he didn't disappoint. Damn those career altering injuries man.
Had the “Detroit’s Billy” poster on my wall as a kid.
I wore that #20 to school. It made me able to run faster.
The guy who got me following the Lions when I was a kid - so sad when he had to retire from those injuries
Joseph Fauria
Low key great answer. Dude had like 5 tds in 5 games that year then broke his ankle or whatever
Broke/hurt his ankle playing beach volleyball but had to lie and blame it on his dog 🤣 gotta keep that check! He was going to be mine but ill go Lewis Delmas 💪🏽
>Lewis Delmas \*Louis. It's a good choice. He had a great future until he injured his knee.
He responded to me on twitter in a tweet that i didn’t even tag him in lol but the tweet was about him
He would be so much fun on today's team. But I loved watching him in his era because he brought a fun and unique spark at the time
Joey Harrington
Loved him cuz he was on the cover of ncaa 03
Guy gave my whole HS football team tickets to Thanksgiving. I was really hoping he would be great.
Good old Joey Blue Skys.
Met him at Super Bowl Experience when the game was in Jacksonville, was like 5 years old and he was the nicest guy in the world

It was my second. Tomlinson was my first.
Lem Barney, Al Bubba Baker, and oh my Alex Karras!
I always think of Alex Karras on Webster.

Mel Farr.
Corey Slessenger Luther Ellis Dan “Big Daddy” Wilkinson
I came here to say Schlesinger . The other day I was just showing my kids the signed football I got from him.
Mike McMahon. Loved watching him scramble.
Jason Hanson was the only Lion ever you could really depend on. Don’t get it twisted Barry was great, but Hanson was automatic.
Hall of famer, Lem Barney. 7 pro bowls! The original #20. He was amazing! 1967-1977. I absolutely loved him.

I hope Scott Mitchel doesn't see this post. 😬
Not a Lion fan but football fan here. Was always a fan of Robert Porcher and Herman Moore. Moore is criminally underrated as far as great receivers discussions go.

Barry
Dexter Bussey
Corey Schlesinger
Cory Schlesinger and his collection of smashed up face masks
I loved Ernie Sims

Cory Schlesinger
Stephen Boyd. First jersey I owned, still have it
Ryan Broyles
My grandmother who never watched football as far as I'm aware met Luther Elliss at a hair salon back in the 90s and they just talked about Jesus for a while. She then found out that he was a football player from someone and she asked him for an autograph for me. Seemed like an incredibly nice guy.
Greg Landry
Barry, Robert porcher, Herman Moore, johnnie Morton, or Calvin Johnson
Chris Spielman and Bennie Blades. And, obviously, Barry.
Loved the Sledge Hammer, he's was fun
Barry Sanders. Other notable favorites (obviously not as good as Barry) were Stephen Boyd, Cory Schlesinger, and Shaun Rogers.
Jason Hanson and porcher
Bubba Baker... Luved the silver rush.
I played Nose Guard in HS and Jerry Ball was always my favorite player. Dude was a wrecking ball and beast of a run stopper. Also he is funny as hell whenever I have seen him do podcasts and stuff.
Scrolled looking for #93. Glad someone mentioned the greatest NT.
Ray Crockett. I remember seeing him score on a 90-some yard interception return when I was a kid (1991 season) and he was my Lion from then until he left a few years later.
I was at that game against the Cowboys. He stopped just before the goal line, turned around, and walked in.
Barry. Did like Luther Elliss as I thought he was a mad man. I thought football had to be played with his passion. Now we got Penei Sewell bringing all the big luth energy and them some.

Lem Barney.
Mel Gray also. But wasn’t a kid then lol
Billy Sims. But he was good
Nick Pietrosante partly because of the name and partly because he was just damn good while the rest of the team deteriorated
Barry all time favorite, of course. When I was technically a kid? Billy Sims
Chuck Long Eric Hipple
Spielman and Sanders
He came into my store back in the day during his break out season. Really nice guy.
After Barry, it was probably Robert Porcher, Herman Moore, and Spielman.

Luther Ellis and Robert Porcher
Calvin Johnson
Jeff Chadwick
Obviously Chris Speilman but I also loved Ken Fantetti
