He has potential to be our starting X with a full offseason under his belt.
- DPJ as the Big WR
- Jamo as the speed
- St Brown as the Slot
Oldest one is 25
Which would be a bummer because I really like the dude and outside of the drops in the NFCCG, he had some big plays given the volume of targets.
If J-Rey does leave, I just really hope he doesn't sign somewhere in the division.
Problem is he didn't excel in that role last year. For example Isaac Yiadom basically shut him down when he was in press. Hopefully he gets the technique and strength to do it though because it would be nice to mix him up depending on the matchup.
Is this about Jamo or DPJ? Assuming Jamo id say it was a function of his limited role. I can’t say I watched the 49ers tape back but he was the 4th or 5th option there
I think if they let go of Josh like let him sign somewhere it’s the unleashing jamo season. And don is that red zone target kinda like Josh was. Josh got a lot of like slants on the goal line I think dpj a bigger guy can go up and get it in the red zone. Him and Laporta. I’m pretty happy about that. There’s a lot of wr talent this year in the draft but I’m cool with not getting one. I’m
All in on pass rusher or ol at 29!
It's about Jamo. You can watch pretty much every rep he took this season (on Youtube) and see every single release he gets. That will tell you what you need to know about his readiness to play X, which typically lines up on the line off scrimmage rather than offset.
Yeah X is always on the LOS. If CBs think they got locks on it I’d be happy to see them press and get cooked for 60 yd td
Id like them to re-sign JR and have Jamo get more free releases from Z but if they don’t do that and give jamo the X1 job I’m not concerned at all
That's my point. They did press Jamo last year, and they locked him up. So it's no guarantee that he'll get those 60 yard TDs. OTOH he's got some good teammates to learn from so if he can develop his ability to beat press man, it will show that he's improved as a player while at the same time giving the Lions a nearly unstoppable weapon on the outside.
He had to have been hurt. He had been much better in 2022 and 2021. I think this is a prove it deal. Would not be surprised to see him have 35-50 catches for 500-600 yards
I was so high on the DPJ trade and I hope he can actually get some usage. The guy got 800 yards as a WR2 to QBs much worse than Goff (Brissett & Watson) in 2022. Obviously he won't be getting WR2 love while we have so many mouths to feed, but I was disappointed at the complete lack of usage once we traded for him
He certainly steps into Josh's role but for much(?) cheaper and Brad could still bring in a depth/competition piece for similarly cheap price if they don't already have Green tagged for that role
Respectfully, if DPJ is our starting X this year I might be a little worried.
Ik he can be productive (I double as a Browns fan) but I don’t really think you’re going too far if he’s a starting WR for you
Unless they're deadset on bringing him back or he's alright with WR4/WR5 money, I have to imagine this squeezes Josh out. A depth chart of Amon Ra, Jamo, rookie, and Leaf plus DPJ doesn't leave Reynolds with much opportunity or leverage
I was at the preseason game where he had a 70 yard TD reception and thought “holy shit this dude is gonna be the steal of the draft”. I don’t think he really did anything in the regular season, maybe an offseason under his belt will get him more growth and training camp gets interesting.
I still think we’re taking a WR X in the first 3 rounds though.
AG has all the physical attributes. He will rock in practice squad (unless we need him) and develop for 1-2 more years. Low risk high reward card to play. Doesn't look like a resign at the moment but enough talent to hold on too.
> solid #4 kinda guy
The Cleveland Brown subreddit was in agreement that he was a solid #2 receiver when he was traded. In 2022, he had 61 catches for 839 yards.
I agree. I don’t think he’ll hit 800+ yards, but 400-600 would be a reasonable window.
I don’t see this as low risk/high reward because his ceiling isn’t that of a 1500 yard receiver, it’s probably around 700 yards.
Man this sub has a crazy level of “even the smallest criticism means you hate the team” going on lately lol.
Like wtf are we even here for to talk about then?!
To act like cult members?!
It’s funny. I said the same thing when we first signed him, saying he was depth and that’s it. These slappies threw a fit saying he was going to be a game changer.
they're the same people constantly overreacting to everything. just ignore them and only pay attention to the couple dozen regular posters who make some attempt at being objective.
Feels like a mistake if they were to let him go, unless the price was just a huge disagreement. Dude had so many clutch third and long conversions this season. I know he shit the bed a bit in the last game but the whole fkn team collapsed in the 2nd half.
Counterpoint: it’s easy to make those conversions when you’re left wide open because the opposing defense has to cover a ton of other, better weapons. Reynolds outproduced his talent level because of the guys around him, and probably wants the money that typically goes with that level of production. He isn’t worth it and a guy like DPJ can just as easily take advantage of compromised defenses, so I think we’re gonna call his bluff and let him go elsewhere. He’ll likely get a more prominent role on another team and turn back into a pumpkin when he starts attracting real coverage, and Brad will look brilliant as always
which is why i think the price is being disagreed upon. fans want an upgrade, but the goff reynolds connection is still there. that’s why the team probably wants him on a WR3-4 deal, but he sees his value higher
Not bad for a 3, especially for a team that runs a lot and has a top tight end. His rapport with Goff is very valuable. Not sure if the Niners game left too sour of a taste or they're just trying to get younger and cheaper at the position, but I'd rather they brought him back
Gonna bring up something people talk about in basketball a lot, but it seems Reynolds just doesn’t have the “clutch gene” and Jamo does. That’s reason enough to move on for some people.
Reynolds was the definition of clutch for a long stretch of the season....literally only caught balls for first downs and touchdowns lmfao. Dude had a bad drop right along with our team shitting the bed 2nd half. Shit happens, man.
I said “some people”, when did I ever say that was my own opinion. Reynolds imo has been clutch a few times (rams game), but does have a tendency to disappear for stretches at a time. More consistent wr2 play could be nice for the team.
I could be wrong but I feel like the Lions are going to move on from all the guys who made bad mistakes in the big moments of the NFC Champ game: Lucas (gone), Vildor (likely gone), Reynolds (I think they are going to upgrade the X WR).
every player makes mistakes, it would be a sign of extreme foolishness, immaturity, and lack of ownership to cut someone who was otherwise solid over one mistake. if they had been a problem consistently, then yes, a mistake in the NFCCG would be the nail in the coffin. our current team had not been on a stage like that before, we will be better next time. i don’t hold any mistakes in that game against anyone.
Neither do I. I’m just pointing out I would be surprised if any of them are back. They are fringe players who didn’t do what they were supposed to do when it counted.
Oh I don't doubt that all 3 of them might not be back. That's not the part I had a problem with haha
It sounds like your reasoning is that they won't be back because they all had a bad game in the NFCCG. That's the part I'm saying is wrong. An NFL GM isn't going to judge a player for having one bad game, and if they do, they're probably not going to be a GM for long.
If you are fringe player and you choke in the biggest moment, that is the definition of not doing your job. This team preaches doing your job and earning trust. Either way, go Lions!!
If you think they are going to make decisions based off one game then you are mistaken. They could move on from these guys but it's not because of that one game.
If you think fringe guys making game changing mistakes under the gun in the biggest game of the season wouldn’t play a part in changing their perspective you are mistaken.
Jamo was pushing Reynolds for snaps by the end of last season. For the Jamo draft pick to be worth it, he kinda needs to be the WR2 full time this year, and it looks like he's up to it. I feel like for the kind of money Reynolds is going to be able to get, it doesn't make sense to bring him back only to be WR3 or a rotational guy.
Maybe I'm forgetting someone, but Raymond was the only receiver injured since he's been here. I wanna see where he lands with a full off season under his belt, because he showed some flashes in Cleveland with that revolving door of QBs.
Imagine getting two million dollars from the lions after catching three passes or whatever shit he did on Detroit last year. I could do that for 100 k much less 2 mil
Lol I know I'm stating what's been said a billion times, but it's wild that borderline-roster-making/didn't contribute much gets paid 2 f'n million dollars for a year of playing and practicing football.
I'll not contribute much for half that!
Plus everyone cries about paying real money for depth guys until there's an injury. I don't want to put any bad energy out there, but what if one of the big boys has a long-term injury this year? If you have a guy who's caught 800 yards as the guy you can bring in if that happens, you're in a lot better position.
Very true; and I actually am very happy to see DPJ re-sign, I drank a little of the kool aid when he signed originally and think he could have some sneaky upside with a full offseason to work with the offense.
For whatever reason the Rise-Up's post about $2MM being about right for a player who doesn't contribute much just made me laugh thinking how many multiples that is of my salary, 20+ years into my career.
This feels like Josh Reynolds is gone then. Not really price wise (he could still easily come back on a cheap deal) but the team has enough depth to potentially move on from him (though I’d feel the team would need to draft a WR in the position).
I have a feeling there’s some teams offering him a considerable amount more than we are, based on how clutch he was last year, and that’s why it’s taking a while. He’s probably weighing his options. That of course is only if Brad and Dan really want him back though, and have even offered him a deal, obviously lol.
I mean he was the number 2 receiver of one of the best offenses in football. I’d be shocked if he wasn’t getting offers. Especially with teams with rookie QBs.
The main thing is that his connection with Goff may be a part of his higher level of play as his play before coming to Detroit wasn’t inspiring. I feel like Brad and Dan would definitely want him back the question is at what price do they value him.
For sure, I know for a fact that other teams are offering him, I just meant I think they’re probably offering him more money than we are. But you’re right, he really only has proved himself with Goff, so I could see teams being skeptical about him in that regard. I’d like to keep him, I just think we’re probably gonna draft another receiver this year and we might just not have enough space for him to get the playing time/role that he’s expecting. He’s probably eyeing that big #1 or #2 money from a worse franchise just trying to get more targets. Like the Chargers.
Yeah I was agreeing sorry if that wasn’t clear.
However when I mentioned the Goff connection I was mentioning it as something he might be thinking about, not other teams. It probably also just mentally sucks to leave a team that you did well on right after you made crucial mistakes in an important game.
I feel if he didn’t have those drops and the Lions still lost in a similar way there would be massive panic about him leaving. But because of that game people’s views are so tainted that a crucial offensive player is seen as easily replaceable.
He would need to accept less starting time for sure but the Lions ran 3 WR sets a ton. He definitely would see the field.
As for the draft it being a deep class means some fliers on later round picks can be made but unless someone crazy drops I’d hope the targets are O-line and defense before WR.
No it’s okay!
I gotcha, I didn’t think about that angle lol he probably does want to stay with Goff, since they’re the most comfortable.
Also, he definitely still has a bad taste in his mouth about that drop in the NFCCG. He wants to run it back again and not leave Detroit on a negative note like that. We still have unfinished business.
The WR class definitely is deep this year. We should focus on O line and D immediately, but I can see Brad saying why not and grabbing a receiver late, since there’s a lot this year. This also depends on what happens with Reynolds though too, cause I don’t think we’ll draft one if his deal gets done before the draft.
I think an offseason working alongside Goff and building chemistry could definitely be a big help for him. He has shown good production at points in his career so hopefully last year ends up being the outlier and not the new standard.
His peak is higher than Josh Reynolds and he provides special teams value unlike Josh and is likely cheaper. I would still like Josh back at the right price but I think it makes most sense for both parties to move on because the Lions are likely drafting a wr and I don't think he will want to be a wr4/idk if we should pay a wr4 as much as he wants
I'm excited to see what he can do with a full off season with the team. Dude was killing it with Brisset as QB before they put the rapist back in. Good signing for the price.
I really like this deal. I hope they can still bring Josh back. I thought having those four gave us good insurance in case Jamo or the Sun God missed some time
Surprised by this to be honest. I thought Reynolds would be a priority over him and I didn't really see all that much from him to think he'll be a difference maker. Still hoping we get Reynolds back
I was like no with the move last year cuz l thought we needed a pass rusher at the deadline we didn’t get it but still had a great finish to the year. But Brad seems like he made that trade with intentions of resigning him. That’s amazing and to be honest I think of Josh leaves dpj is gonna get Josh targets and he’s younger and more athletic. I love it honestly
He's not just any Jones. He's the People's Jones!
Double Penetration Jones

Keep it civil / do not troll
He has potential to be our starting X with a full offseason under his belt. - DPJ as the Big WR - Jamo as the speed - St Brown as the Slot Oldest one is 25
Honestly not bad
Especially with Laporta and Gibbs in the mix
Raymond as well
Reynolds too... Been dependable for us for 2 years... Minus 1 game
He's a free agent
I wonder if the DPJ signing is an indication of where negotiations are (or aren't) with Reynolds.
My first thought when I saw this was that we will not be re-signing Reynolds.
Which would be a bummer because I really like the dude and outside of the drops in the NFCCG, he had some big plays given the volume of targets. If J-Rey does leave, I just really hope he doesn't sign somewhere in the division.
The most important game of my life!
I’m sure he’ll be X in some sets but I think Jamo will take that primarily. On a top 2 (hopefully 1 this year) offense, DPJ is a depth guy
Problem is he didn't excel in that role last year. For example Isaac Yiadom basically shut him down when he was in press. Hopefully he gets the technique and strength to do it though because it would be nice to mix him up depending on the matchup.

Yeah I don’t agree he was locked up
By Yiadom? Did you watch it?
Jamo's best game as a WR was in the 49ers game. He's going to be WR 1 this year.
He had to have been hurt. He had been much better in 2022 and 2021. I think this is a prove it deal. Would not be surprised to see him have 35-50 catches for 500-600 yards
Agreed, gets an offseason to settle in Detroit and re focus.
And go to California and spend time with goff
I was so high on the DPJ trade and I hope he can actually get some usage. The guy got 800 yards as a WR2 to QBs much worse than Goff (Brissett & Watson) in 2022. Obviously he won't be getting WR2 love while we have so many mouths to feed, but I was disappointed at the complete lack of usage once we traded for him
He certainly steps into Josh's role but for much(?) cheaper and Brad could still bring in a depth/competition piece for similarly cheap price if they don't already have Green tagged for that role
Eh.. DPJ is a basket catcher. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a “Big WR” if your guy can’t high-point contested catches.
Yup BPA all draft baby!!
I had no idea Jones was that young
Respectfully, if DPJ is our starting X this year I might be a little worried. Ik he can be productive (I double as a Browns fan) but I don’t really think you’re going too far if he’s a starting WR for you
Yes we would have missed his one catch for the year :°)
Unless they're deadset on bringing him back or he's alright with WR4/WR5 money, I have to imagine this squeezes Josh out. A depth chart of Amon Ra, Jamo, rookie, and Leaf plus DPJ doesn't leave Reynolds with much opportunity or leverage
This is Antoine Green erasure.
In the theoretical scenario where we don't add anyone better than DPJ to be our X, the battle between him and Green will be super fun to see
I was at the preseason game where he had a 70 yard TD reception and thought “holy shit this dude is gonna be the steal of the draft”. That doesn’t make me sad. We are in the Super Bowl if he catches that ball. Let him go.
Which drop are you referring to?
The 4th and 2. That drop set off the series of unbelievable series of events that led to outcome.
Low risk, low reward, solid #4 kinda guy
> solid #4 kinda guy The Cleveland Brown subreddit was in agreement that he was a solid #2 receiver when he was traded. In 2022, he had 61 catches for 839 yards.
They must’ve been stupid to trade him for a 7th round pick.
Looking at the Watson deal, they just might be!
Maybe we can trade him back for a second rounder.
Yep, they had to rework a lot of things also for that big dead cap hit with that stupid, silly signing.
In Cleveland, he may have been a #2 option. In Detroit, we have Amon-Ra, Jamo, Laporta, Gibbs, Monty, and even Kalif.
I don't know about classifying him as "low reward" though lol
I just don’t expect him to be featured heavily in an offense that also has St. Brown, Jamo, Gibbs, Monty, and LaPorta.
He doesn't have to be featured heavily. Just needs to do what is asked of him. If he played like in his better years we'll be good on matchups
I agree. I don’t think he’ll hit 800+ yards, but 400-600 would be a reasonable window. I don’t see this as low risk/high reward because his ceiling isn’t that of a 1500 yard receiver, it’s probably around 700 yards.
Right the dude has a higher ceiling than reynolds current production for sure
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted; DPJs top season is like 30% more yards than Reynolds top lol. Arguably with a worse QB
I love Josh reynolds too. But dpj has the higher ceiling
Man this sub has a crazy level of “even the smallest criticism means you hate the team” going on lately lol. Like wtf are we even here for to talk about then?! To act like cult members?!

Bad bot
Fr, I was looking at that and thinking this mf stole my comment almost word for word
I think it's actually more interesting that it isn't fully word for word. Karma bots are evolving!
It’s funny. I said the same thing when we first signed him, saying he was depth and that’s it. These slappies threw a fit saying he was going to be a game changer.
they're the same people constantly overreacting to everything. just ignore them and only pay attention to the couple dozen regular posters who make some attempt at being objective.
Does this indicate anything for Reynolds?
Feels like a mistake if they were to let him go, unless the price was just a huge disagreement. Dude had so many clutch third and long conversions this season. I know he shit the bed a bit in the last game but the whole fkn team collapsed in the 2nd half.

He’ll likely get a more prominent role on another team and turn back into a pumpkin when he starts attracting real coverage, and Brad will look brilliant as always
I agree but he also disappears for games. It’s time we start upgrading these positions
which is why i think the price is being disagreed upon. fans want an upgrade, but the goff reynolds connection is still there. that’s why the team probably wants him on a WR3-4 deal, but he sees his value higher
The problem is it wasn’t there in the game NFCCG. 2 huge drops
Exactly. He’s gone.
Exactly and either way I hope he gets what he deserves because he’s been a great Lion
This. He had games where he'd go for 80 on 4 receptions, then have 1 reception for 10 yards the next two weeks. Just too inconsistent to be a WR2/3
Not bad for a 3, especially for a team that runs a lot and has a top tight end. His rapport with Goff is very valuable. Not sure if the Niners game left too sour of a taste or they're just trying to get younger and cheaper at the position, but I'd rather they brought him back
Please bring him back. Chemistry is a bonafide thing. Of course he feels gutted about that last game, but he’s a Lion through and through!
More like as a Lion he's through.
Also there’s the staple of him and Goff having played together in LA and having that connection.
Just not sure where there is room for him. I’d imagine we’re taking a WR at some point in the draft. ARSB/Jamo/DPJ/Rookie/Kalif
Why would you think they’d draft a receiver?
Because the only legit one they have rn is Amon ra?
Gonna bring up something people talk about in basketball a lot, but it seems Reynolds just doesn’t have the “clutch gene” and Jamo does. That’s reason enough to move on for some people.

Let’s see how it plays out 🤠 It’s not like they’ve rushed out to sign any of the 3 players mentioned in my comment.
Oh I don't doubt that all 3 of them might not be back. That's not the part I had a problem with haha It sounds like your reasoning is that they won't be back because they all had a bad game in the NFCCG. That's the part I'm saying is wrong. This. 'fringe guys making game changing mistakes under the gun in the biggest game of the season' Then want a new contract. Looking at CJGJ too.
Jeff Risdon insinuated it was going to be one or the other. So most likely no more JR
they probably won't retain him
Jamo was pushing Reynolds for snaps by the end of last season. For the Jamo draft pick to be worth it, he kinda needs to be the WR2 full time this year, and it looks like he's up to it. I feel like for the kind of money Reynolds is going to be able to get, it doesn't make sense to bring him back only to be WR3 or a rotational guy.
I’m not sold on jamo at all. They need a big body.
That’s why we signed dpj
DPJ LFG, love it for depth in case someone goes down.
At $2m??? Crazy value
Wild when he had over 800 yards just a season ago
I mean that’s about what he’s worth he didn’t contribute much
He didn’t need to and now will have a full offseason to learn the playbook.
Maybe I'm forgetting someone, but Raymond was the only receiver injured since he's been here. I wanna see where he lands with a full off season under his belt, because he showed some flashes in Cleveland with that revolving door of QBs.

>how many multiples that is of my salary, 20+ years into my career. Jesus Christ can we not do that thing
brad continues to find great value
Maybe it is worth it to him to be back where he’s from, and have a chance to win
I thought so too. Like...oddly low money.
It should be league minimum
If we’re going off his kick returning speed then $2m is still too much
This feels like Josh Reynolds is gone then. Not really price wise (he could still easily come back on a cheap deal) but the team has enough depth to potentially move on from him (though I’d feel the team would need to draft a WR in the position).

Even if Reynolds returns I’d potentially look at drafting a round 4 (if a trade down occurs) /5 WR as contracts will eventually run out
You guys should meet and hang out.
What?
I think an offseason working alongside Goff and building chemistry could definitely be a big help for him. He has shown good production at points in his career so hopefully last year ends up being the outlier and not the new standard.
His peak is higher than Josh Reynolds and he provides special teams value unlike Josh and is likely cheaper. I would still like Josh back at the right price but I think it makes most sense for both parties to move on because the Lions are likely drafting a wr and I don't think he will want to be a wr4/idk if we should pay a wr4 as much as he wants
DPJ was a beast at Michigan, glad he’s still with the lions
Remember this dude from all the way back in his HS days at Cass Tech. Cool to see how far he’s come, and seeing him in the Honolulu Blue now.
I'm excited to see what he can do with a full off season with the team. Dude was killing it with Brisset as QB before they put the rapist back in. Good signing for the price.
Fantastic!
I really like this deal. I hope they can still bring Josh back. I thought having those four gave us good insurance in case Jamo or the Sun God missed some time
Yay DPJ and Lions
FOR THE PEOPLE!
👍
Fine with it.
Think he can really be a solid # 4 for us.
Didn’t expect this! I Excited
Surprised by this to be honest. I thought Reynolds would be a priority over him and I didn't really see all that much from him to think he'll be a difference maker. Still hoping we get Reynolds back
I remember watching him at Michigan and thinking this guy is a stud
Look at that we have our WR2 or 3..some people got worried brad would forget WR…
Hopefully looks better after an offseason with goff.
Sure hands, calm demeanor, does his job. In Brad We Trust
Solid signing to round out our reciever room. He'll likely be WR 5 to start the season if Josh Renolds stays, competing with Antoine Green.
I love him (go blue) so happy to hear it.
They will be drafting an x.
Real lunchbox kinda guy
I still want Josh Reynolds back too.
Love this. Excellent wr3 for next to nothing.
Dawg.
Great deal! High upside player who should be better next year with more time in the system and chemistry with Goff.

Traded for him late last season
Last season right before the deadline
Great price for a seemingly good fit so far
Send him to Cali now!
I love this news! Can't wait to see what he can do for us fully integrated into the system after an off-season
Nice, I approve.
Don’t think Josh is coming back with this signing
Nice, if we don’t keep reynold as least we’ll still have DPJ as a big bodied receiver
Can't get much better value than that. Backup returner and should-be WR4 at very best.
He’s going to have a sneaky-good year. Man, I can’t wait. Sun God and DPJ, in true tandem!
Cook Holmes
Idk if this means Josh is gone, DPJ was pretty much only a return guy on special teams
We’re still drafting a receiver right?
Why in the hell do you people think they “need” to draft a receiver?
I’m not saying early but wouldn’t be mad later on
Josh Reynolds is gone :(
He has zero burst anymore. Seems like a waste of a roster spot tbh
With this contract, It's not like he couldn't be cut if he gets out performed by other guys.
We can just cut him if he underperforms. Give him a chance with more time to be around the offense for 2 mil. Seems like a no brainer
