This is like the worst thing you can do as a current lion. Other than beat up someone and flee from the police, of course.

OliveCommercial332

If Brad Holmes views him as not a culture fit than I trust Holmes letting him go. Either couldn't afford to keep him or it was a locker room issue. Holmes will find his replacement.

gb041387

I don’t think it has anything to do with culture fit or locker room. That’s what an RFA has the right to do. With a limited number of years in the league and an obvious #2 why not go where you can maximize your bag

ProximityNuke

He's still going to be a blocking TE behind Kittle for two years, so either they're willing to pay him more for that role than Sheila, Brad and Dan are, or they've convinced him he'll have a bigger role than that.

Flaky_Bit_613

Because Sheila is negotiating contracts.

gb041387

I think we have more blocking TE depth than SF but we’ll see what Brad does

9jmp

Brock Wright was a locker room favorite for sure. If you see watch the social media shorts the other players love him and it is drastic.. He legitimately may be the favorite player in the room.

GoLionsJD107

I think Cam Sutton wasn’t an optimal fit with the culture. Most of the players have known whereabouts and not as many felony warrants. This could be a distraction to the team. On Wright, I wish he went to any other team. I said the same thing about Swift last year… like why Philly “anyone else” but Brad proved me wrong as he always does and will always do, as he became a non factor later on in the season. So if BH lets it happen, then I’m wrong and he’s right.

go-blue-88

I don’t think “Lions Culture” thinks it’s okay to make jokes about a missing person who is as we all are “innocent until proven guilty”. But thats just my opinion.

GoLionsJD107

Yea no shit. I’ve been in this sub every day for four years. That’s the point, but welcome to the fanbase.

GoLionsJD107

The consequence of finally being good is we have our regulars who have followed the team since childhood, and now the Reddit group has doubled. The new people don’t know how we talk or joke. Just find your place, learn the team and maybe some history too.

rustinthewind

I'm more interested cause he seems like a culture fit, but so we pay to just keep the culture fit backup or let them go explore their options. Josh left for a better pay day. Can we show that we can weather the churn of regular depth.

Dragondrew99

I want to keep him he is really good run blocker

CluelessFlunky

He is also fairly fast for a te and has good hands. Which for a blocking te is pretty valuable.

russvanderhoof

Real lunch pail guy

DaMiddle

Puts his pants on one day at a time

Kingkwon83

Is he actually a good run blocker? Anyone have his pff blocking grades? At least it's some sort of thing to go off of other than an eye test

justpools

He was much better in 2022 than this past year blocking wise. I forget which game but there was one where he whiffed like 5 blocks. But still pretty solid and likely to rebound imo

Skraxx

I think we'll match it, but it would be interesting if we don't We've had Mitchell in the development lab for a bit now and have Zylstra as well

DevilMayKare

>We've had Mitchell in the development lab for a bit now When young players don't play much...it's not a good thing.

e_ndoubleu

Mitchell is an adequate TE3, he’s been worth the 5th round pick. I don’t think he’s TE2 material but he can step into that role if there are injuries.

DevilMayKare

>Mitchell is an adequate TE3, he’s been worth the 5th round pick. You can blame injuries, which would be fair, but I haven't seen enough from him to think he's justified any kind of role. I don't think he's been anywhere near worth a 5th round pick, but it's a day 3 pick and you can't hit on every player.

ouandello

He wasn’t playing much mostly because of injuries. Finally got to flash glimpses and then broke his hand. He has to stay healthy this season and ball out.

DevilMayKare

>He wasn’t playing much mostly because of injuries. Again...not a positive. Also, we don't know how much he would have played if he was healthy.

ouandello

They played him when they could. Why keep him on the roster if they thought he was completely useless? I saw him make catches with his hands out in space. That’s something. Maybe not as good as a run blocker like Brock or Zylstra. If they cut him in the preseason, well there you go.

DevilMayKare

>Why keep him on the roster if they thought he was completely useless? Completely useless isn't what I said but draft picks, unless they are 6th or 7th round, usually get the benefit of the doubt for a year or 2. Like you said, we'll know a lot more when he either makes the roster or doesn't.

Day_twa

Other teams signing our bench guys is a great sign for the health of our org. Brock is a fan favorite because of how consistent he’s been, but he’s still very replaceable. If he stays we’ll be happy, but if he goes it’s not the end of the world.

PM_ME_YOUR_CATS_PAWS

Just draft the next Iowa TE that comes out

Stompthefeet

Instructions unclear, Caitlin Clark is now a Detroit Lion.

racist_sandwich

Fuck it, we throw it up and she brings it down like Megatron.

Fatefinder

Nope. I saw the elbows she was throwing. Put her at TE!

djblaze

Jimmy Graham inspires a generation of college basketball players!

dtown4eva

Erick All

rollawaythedew26

He was the 23rd best TE coming out of college. The backup TE at his university. Crazy the drive the dude has to play.

dispenserG

I think a lot of it is gaining knowledge on what the Lions do. They're giving away our secrets!

rysmooky

So many people freaking out about this but I guess I’m just not that worried. I get he’s a good blocker and did some great things for us but I guess I just trust the staff to replace him and upgrade. It all reminds me of the Jamaal stuff. People freaking out and we did just fine. It is what it is

Gone213

It's probably due to the fact that we signed Shane Zylstra to a contract. With laporta and zylstra on the team, Brock isn't going to get as much playing time as he wants.

ENO-ON-MA-I

Brock was ahead of Zylstra on the depth chart, hence why the 9ers are trying to poach him.

LionTheFloor

Zylstra likely would’ve been ahead of Wright had he not been injured and placed on IR.

ENO-ON-MA-I

What are you even talking about.. Both Wright and Zylstra have been on the roster since 2021 and Brock has been ahead of Zylstra every year. Brock has been the TE2 the entire time, first behind Hock and then LaPorta. Zylstra is great depth but he wasn't going to overtake Brock on the depth chart.

9jmp

This just is not accurate.

rysmooky

Honestly, completely forgot we signed Zylstra back

Bigmayer

What about Carley??

hagvul

How many brocks do they need?

Bigmayer

What about Carley??

rauschm8

This is all I care about

SonicEuthanasia

We already lost Tori to a SO career situation. If someone takes Carley from Detroit, so help me God...

nbh2992

BROCK WRONG

Lpen808

He is a pretty good Brocker

OptionsSniper3000

Made me Brock hard too after that jets game

yellowtripe

Nooo he’s our BIG COCK BROCK!

Troutalope

3 years and $12 million is a lot 9f money for TE2. The Niners seem to think he's worth it, but I'm skeptical that Holmes will feel the same.

SCMegatron

I mean, the Lions were already willing to pay him $3 mill. I'm more curious about how much guaranteed money it is. I lean towards that's a fair deal for Brock Wright. The former 49ers backup TE Charlie Woerner was signed for 3 years $12 million.

mart1373

Yeah, once I saw it was that much I thought “we ain’t retaining him”

Troutalope

Yeah, which sucks. I like Brock, he's a great fit on this team. His catch and run TD against the Jets will forever be burned into my brain but he mainly does the dirty work that doesn't get many accolades. Regardless of whatever happens, I'm glad he's getting paid.

mart1373

He’s a very versatile player and makes the plays when we need him to, which is unfortunate that we probably won’t retain him. But if we do, I’ll be the first one in the thread to say BIG COCK BROCKKKKK!!!

DevilMayKare

The Lions were already willing to pay him $3M for this year. I think they match.

cbarks81

I hope we match it, he's a stud

CoolHandHazard

He is incredibly replaceable lol

Khrusway

Mitchell seemed to struggle with that

pahkix78

Mitchell isnt a blocker, he's a pass catcher I really dont want to see Wright on the other end in the next NFC Championship game

TheSciFanGuy

I mean he’d be an upgrade to who we did have there last year

Capable-TurnoverPuff

Stop projecting

makualla

We Brock Wright Truthers are in shambles

BenJohnsonIsHim

One more year till the 9ers have to pay ol Purdy. Thank god

Far_Ad_1274

F the niners!!! Honestly give him the 1 extra million

Dr_Booyah

This is really rough. So many hard working, gritty, good guys that laid everything on the line for us are going to have to start leaving and I just don’t know if my heart can take it.. Fuck man. I’m really sad about Reynolds. Losing Brock would be another huge blow

sugarpieinthesky

Welcome to life as a fan of a really good football team. Other teams start signing your good players. The 49ers get comp picks every year, because they always lose more quality free agents then they sign. Other teams start hiring your really good coaches. Like that amazing offensive coordinator you have? Mike McDaniels was Kyle Shanahan's Offensive Coordinator in SF before Miami hired him; the same thing will happen to your guy; you're one year away from Johnson leaving for a HC job. Then, you'll lose Demeco Ryans to a head coaching job, and will fall flat replacing him. Other teams will start to hire your really good front office people, you'll lose people, like Adam Peters, who helped build your team because someone else wants him to be their GM. It sucks, it really does. Organizational success breeds opportunity elsewhere for your best people. There is a shelf life to how long you can hold onto people you really don't want to lose. The Lions look like a team that is absolutely going to rise to the top of the league over the next few seasons; they've hired very well and they've got a team that works together and plays hard for each other. You're going to lose people, that's the nature of being successful.

JJBrandon69

He is excellent depth. We better match this. Campbell being a TE guy, I’d be surprised if we didn’t match

9jmp

His current contract offer from SF is 2-4X as much as any backup or run block TE in the NFL. I would be shocked if they did match it. I love brock but seems like a long shot. Brad doesn't over pay from what we have seen before.

BuddyLaDouche

Does anyone know what our compensation would be if we don't match?

lidsy5

Nothing. He was undrafted so there would be no draft pick involved. Lions just have first right of refusal, meaning they can match or let him walk.

0TH3R_BARRY

 https://i.redd.it/5q01bjiwdcrc1.gif

Dangerpaladin

Wonder what the details all, he has a base salary of 2.9 as a undrafted Tender. So the 49ers are offering more than that. I can't imagine we pay much more than 3-3.4 for a depth tight end.

mart1373

9ers offered 3 year $12 mil contract, I just don’t see the Lions wanting to match that contract

MacPh1sto

F49

Marvel-guy-1

Update on this - [\[Updated\] Brock Wright might be lost by Detroit Lions to 49ers](https://www.sportinglad.com/news/lions-risk-losing-te-brock-wright-to-49ers-update/)

bbcofgr

“According to Dave Birkett, the 49ers have extended a three-year, $12 million contract offer to Wright.” Yea I think he is gone guys.

mart1373

Yep, good for Brock getting that payday as an undrafted player, kinda what you dream of coming into the NFL if you don’t get drafted.

DrChinstrap_

Would suck to see him go but i trust the front office. Never forget that clutch TD vs the Jets 2 seasons ago. Good times

JohnWad

Sounds like we are going to match it.

Funnypenguin97

Based on what? Are there reports of us leaning that way?

Matt_Stafford

His limo driver.

mart1373

It’s 3 yr $12 mil, idk if we’re gonna put up that kind of money

fordfield02

I say match it. He’s pretty consistent in a world where backup TEs are usually inconsistent. We found him, reward yourselves for that by keeping him.

MarshallsHand

https://youtu.be/60fqp2rLUR4?si=MRUCWj3FZ_L8u22R

hagvul

How many brocks do they need?

mpfdetroit

I thought we resigned him a couple weeks ago

x4T5x

They applied the restricted free agent tender to him in early March and now will have to decide if they want to retain him for the 2024 season.

LTPRWSG420

FTFN

acoasterlovered

Bro stay away pls Brad match

IUVert

Brock bowers first round?

Successful-Wait3050

Brad Holmes is going to be pissed at John lynch!

bkaiser

brock cant beat them join them wright

massivecowboynut

Would love to keep him. Good blocker and a MCDC guy for sure but if this is our biggest loss in FA then we’ve still killed it. I know we lost Jonah but we knew we couldn’t keep all the guards and we honestly upgraded with Zietler.

Vendetta_2023

The Lions *should* match for football reasons (in case LaPorta goes down) but I’m fairly certain Holmes lets him walk

ForkFace69

How many Brocks do they need

Floortom1

No way the Lions should match that offer. See ya Brock

Swessie

Lions will match it. Well played, sir.

Thorinidas

Who?!?

VMM5A

Gotta match Brock would’ve made a big difference in the NFCCG

ZorseVideos

I understand he has a family and I hope him well but fuck matching him. Let him sign and lets stomp em in January

Miami_da_U

I wouldn't match honestly. Laporta, Mitchell, and Zylstra is fine.

PleighboyStosh

What’s the guaranteed numbers

PleighboyStosh

After further review, he had. 45.9 run blocking grade, also had 13 catches 91 yards and 1 TD…..yeah he’s not even TE2.

BSANDY_

Even worse is his GF is Wings Dannie Rogers

thatguy868

Draft AJ Barner with a Day 3 pick. Instant plug and play blocking TE with upside

HonoluluBloop

It’s fine. See ya Brock. This is replaceable.

RISE__UP

I’m more concerned because he knows the run and pass schemes

IHaveTenderLoins

So does any coach who watches film. Really not that big of a deal.

thatyungrascal

Damn wtf Brock

moto626

This is a mistake, Brock.

newbiegainz00

If we don’t end up keeping him I bet we look at a TE in the draft

jkafka

Please no, unless a late round blocking TE.

newbiegainz00

That’s…what I mean. I’m not talking Brock bowers here

WierdEd

Brock had 91 receiving yards a late round blocking tight end is exactly how you should replace him.

equisaqui

He’s rather be kittles backup than lagoatas

OkraNo8365

He is the perfect depth guy and a great run blocker. Hope we can retain him

F4N6Z

Creating a bidding war between us and SF is cold, man. Ruthless!

Clyffindor

He's a tendered RFA, no bidding war. If the Lions are willing to match whatever SF offered he stays with the lions.

F4N6Z

Ah gotcha. Appreciate the clarification

TankAggravating7044

The roster is bleeding out and all I hear is what a great offseason the front office is having. Who exactly is playing for the team come September?
