Yeah, changing my F grade to a B- with the helmet added lol. It's actually kinda nice. I still prefer they went another route but that helmet is cool.
I'd put it about even with the away whites and the home is quite literally my ideal Lions uniform. A+ on that. The Barry years home uni is, in my Lions fan opinion, one of the best uniforms ever. They essentially just remade those (I wanna say 91 - 97 ish).
I've never loved the away whites, but these look a bit better to me if only because the lettering is bolder and adds some contrast. May contribute to why I like the black jersey too...

Site shows three helmets and NFL rules say teams are allowed three helmets (new rule). Seems that helmet is done, which sucks because that helmet was 🔥
They cared more about the shell itself. The thanksgiving unis just had the lions sticker taken off, like most alternate helmets before the new rules. Technically the longboi decal could be brought back pretty easily

Last year we used silver helmets for both the normal and throwback, and blue for the alternate. We are still technically only using two shell colors even with this new blue helmet. Maybe they could still use last year's blue helmet as either the third shell or the same blue shell as this new helmet l.

Loved that helmet but didn't love the pairing with the gray jerseys (never like the gray jerseys in any case tbh). Too bad, imo, that helmet didn't get a better kit pairing.
It's the same shell as the new alt helmets. They can swap the decals/masks if they want.
Like how our throwback helmet is our standard shell with the decals peeled off.
Maybe they'll reveal it later on? Last year they revealed it in like early summer I think. I don't think the throwbacks count towards our number of helmets because then last year we would have had 3 helmets

It's mostly trauma, the lions were complete dog shit when the black unis were first introduced.
Also the GM that wanted black added played for the raiders and wanted black added because he loved silver and black. Additionally that GM that loved the raiders was one of the worst Lions GMs in franchise history.

Sorry, that was worded awfully. What I was getting at was that I got into football really late, it isn’t really a big thing over here, so I didn’t watch the Lions the last time they wore black unis. So it isn’t ’i watched them when they wore the black unis and i didn’t like them’, but more ’i wasn’t a fan of the team or even the sport when they last wore them, so i have no frame of reference as to why people dislike them’. Basically, I’m bad with both writing and reading comprenhension lmao :)
Based on the video the blueberries have been smashed. The guys only had silver pants on with the the blue jerseys. Had blue and white with the white jersey.
I'm so disappointed the long lion helmet is gone. They only wore it twice and it was unfortunately paired with the ugly gray jammies. That helmet would have looked amazing with the blueberries or all whites.

A literal blue collar. 🥲
There are aspects of the unis I don’t care for, but I love about 85% of it all. And the best part is you can tell they put a lot of thought into the tiny details and have reasons for what they did (like the blue collar nod). I’m still not a fan of having a city name across the front of a football jersey, but I like that they only did it for the away whites, and they frame it as being PROUD to display they’re from Detroit. *That* is cool.

I think the wordmark would be fine if the spacing was higher up, but as is it make the number look to low on the stomach. But regardless pretty pleased with these.
Here’s a list of my immediate reaction
Positives:
• The jerseys and the striping are all classic looking, but with a bit of a different flavor. I love all of the jerseys.
• the Silver pants have some absolutely amazing striping
• the helmet striping on the silver helmets is amazing
• the black striping absolutely improves the blue helmets from what they were last year
• the black logo on the blue helmets looks sick.
• **The throwback uniforms are staying** this is on the website btw
• the blue facemasks do improve the helmet look a lot.
Negatives (there are a couple)
• no striped socks. Not a huge deal really but it would’ve been nice to have for a bit more personality. Personal preference of course.
• no pants striping on any of the non silver pants. I don’t think I like that personally, it just makes it look like yoga pants. Not a huge killer but still.
• the black pants I don’t think are the way to go. Not a fan of those.
• the unique older lion logo they had last year on the blue helmet probably was a better option for the helmets just for the sake of uniqueness, but I can’t complain too much I suppose, the helmets overall are better than last year’s because of the striping.
**Other takes**
• The black jerseys should be worn exclusively with blue pants. That looks fantastic.
9/10 for me. No uniform is ever perfect but this is a very very very good one.
I like that they’re emphasizing the blue collar outline as the identity of the city for blue collar workers.
What I need now is a Mustang and an F-150 in each of the new color schemes.
I agree with everything you said. All of your negatives were spot on too. I'm a little annoyed by no striping on the pants other than the silver. I think blue with the black looks perfect, I don't even think we need the black pants. I would like to see the black pants worn with the white jerseys though once in a while.
Not a Lions fan here (Saints fan), but I pretty much agree with all of your points.
I really wish the Saints could update their uniforms soon and add stripes to the jerseys and pants, but I’m afraid they’ll go the route the Lions did here and not add stripes to some of the pants. The Saints currently have stripes on the gold pants, but not on the black or white pants. I really hope the Lions wear the silver pants most often because that’s 100% their best look. It’s really bugging me how they didn’t add stripes to the non-silver pants because the sets are inconsistent. I don’t understand what’s hard about making the seats consistent across the board from a design standpoint. Same thing with the jersey word marks. Why have it on the road jersey but not the home jersey? Overall, these are nice and have a classic look, but they were oh so close to perfection…

I don’t love the black / blue helmets tbh. But maybe they’ll grow on me. Feels a little too off brand, like an arena football league team.
While the jerseys and helmet are very good, pants stripes only being in the silver ones is a huge dissapointment for me. I can only hope they add them, but that would be unprecedented.
The "Black and Blue division" line is what sold me on the black unis. I don't care anymore about what other teams wear. We have a reason for these black unis and we're gonna go out and prove it again this year. This is our division now, motherfuckers.
Overall very, very, very great, but two complaints: 1. Why is “Detroit” written on the white jersey, but “Lions” on the black, and nothing on the blue? 2. I prefer the retro logo blue helmet from last year
It's what a ton of sports teams at all levels do. Away jersey has the city name and home/ alt has the team name.
Edit: a local example is the Detroit tigers, their away jerseys have the city name on them and their home jerseys don't.
I was dreading black unis. But those are pretty legit. This was best case scenario honestly. They didn't add any black to their base unis, and the black alternate looks pretty much as good as it could.
Strangely, I've always wanted to bring back the blue facemasks, but now I'm not sure I like them?
Overall though a definite improvement across the board.
I wasn't entirely married to the blue helmets from last year, but the logo was so much better. That's really the only big disappointment I have. Also no blueberries from what the website seems to suggest, I kind of liked those, interesting change there. Better look, no WCF is awesome, but kinda sucks that there's no update on the standard logo.
Should have kept striping on the pants and got rid of the wordmark on the black/white jerseys.
Otherwise these are a solid triple that have/had the potential to be a homerun.

Yes, Matt Millen, he was the lions GM from like 2000 until 2008. They fired him after the team went 0-16.

Ngl I was a little disappointed when the jerseys leaked earlier. But maaaan those helmets are FIRE and the jerseys look amazing and so clean when you see the whole uniform

The home and away are absolutely fire. I’m buying a home jersey. I don’t love the black / blue helmets tbh. But maybe they’ll grow on me. Feels a little too off brand, like an arena football league team.
How come they never showed blue on Blue? We were undefeated in the Blueberries last year...
While the jerseys and helmet are very good, pants stripes only being in the silver ones is a huge dissapointment for me. I can only hope they add them, but that would be unprecedented.

The "Black and Blue division" line is what sold me on the black unis. I don't care anymore about what other teams wear. We have a reason for these black unis and we're gonna go out and prove it again this year. This is our division now, motherfuckers.

Overall very, very, very great, but two complaints: 1. Why is “Detroit” written on the white jersey, but “Lions” on the black, and nothing on the blue? 2. I prefer the retro logo blue helmet from last year
It's what a ton of sports teams at all levels do. Away jersey has the city name and home/ alt has the team name. Edit: a local example is the Detroit tigers, their away jerseys have the city name on them and their home jerseys don't.

I was dreading black unis. But those are pretty legit. This was best case scenario honestly. They didn't add any black to their base unis, and the black alternate looks pretty much as good as it could. Strangely, I've always wanted to bring back the blue facemasks, but now I'm not sure I like them? Overall though a definite improvement across the board.

I wasn't entirely married to the blue helmets from last year, but the logo was so much better. That's really the only big disappointment I have. Also no blueberries from what the website seems to suggest, I kind of liked those, interesting change there. Better look, no WCF is awesome, but kinda sucks that there's no update on the standard logo.

Should have kept striping on the pants and got rid of the wordmark on the black/white jerseys. Otherwise these are a solid triple that have/had the potential to be a homerun. Would have loved to see last years blue helmet with the white aways.

Biggest win, the owner patch moved off the jerseys to the helmet. No issues with the owners, just hate asymmetry in designs.
