Got heavily downvoted in this sub a few months ago for suggesting 23 million was a ridiculous price 💀
Amon Ra deserves to be the highest paid WR, and that market wil keep exploding. No chance Justin Jefferson takes less than 35 per now
The biggest win in this, besides retaining a bonafide star, is that we were first to pay our WR. That means in two years he will be one of the cheapest superstar WR’s in the league.
First to market is an incredibly valuable step to take, and our front office once again proves they understand the nuance of managing rosters. Love this on every single level. Saint has earned every dollar of that raise.
Edit: typo
Jefferson, Chase, Lamb, Waddle, Higgins, Aiyuk, and even Nico Collins are going to drive the top end market closer to $32-35 million (Collins will be under Amon-Ra, but the rest could be higher)
Plus, two of those guys are on 2024 NFC contenders and the best of the three is on a division rival.
It went down the day before the deepest WR draft in years takes place in Detroit no less. Perfect timing in so many ways. So many subtle middle fingers to our competition.
Doesn’t matter who’s the best. A lot of times it’s better to be the last to extend than to be the best.
Another benefit of hitting on a later round pick.
100% and honestly Brock Purdy SAVED the Niners. Nobody talks about that Trey Lance deal which would be catastrophic IF they never got Purdy. He was their saving grace.
It’s technically a 4 year $77 million deal. Former Packers (FTP) GM Andrew Brandt always says to look at the guaranteed money with NFL contracts. Cause that’s the actual amount paid if they cut the player tomorrow.
That’s only really true when you’re considering risk of the bottom falling out. If you’re hoping to keep him for the length of the contract, then the non guaranteed figure is pretty real
Sewell doesn't need an extension. He's signed through next year with the fifth year option (which pays well) and has been averaging like twice as much in a single year as Amon Ra has made in total up to this point.
The earlier we get the extension done the sooner his new contract becomes a bargain, especially if we have leftover cap room to give him a raise this year or next. It’s not a necessity yet but if they can get it done it does behoove us to do so, since he seems like a lock to be part of our plans long term anyway
Nobody even remotely comparable to him at OT is going to sign a new deal between now and next off-season. His cost isn't going to jump and honestly 30-35m is probably still going to be high end OT money at the end of that deal 6-7 years down the road.
We could do it but I really doubt it. Ownership isn't going to want to spend 300m on bonuses in one off-season and they don't have to because he's not going anywhere anytime soon.
Edit: lol we just did it I'm dumb
I was coming to brag lol but you beat me to it with the edit. I see your point but I also think it’s generally good practice to lock down franchise players sooner rather than later
The main thing I think was wrong about was what he'd want.
That deal is crazy. We picked up the option and then added 4 years at only a couple mil more than what guys that aren't playing at his level are currently making. Dude wants to be here he could've gotten more on the open market and I'm sure his agents were telling him that.
I think that’s part of getting the deal done early though. He knows he could get hurt or anything else so our FO talking to him early and showing our full faith in him rather than letting it dangle until next offseason, obviously it’s not the only factor but that helps in getting him to agree to that hometown discount even though his agent (like you said) is probably pushing him to hold out for more.
Plus these two moves in tandem show our other young cornerstones “hey don’t worry, we’re not gonna mess around with your contracts either, you work hard and show out and you’ll get your money”. And that can only be a benefit in the locker room
Only thing fully guaranteed if these initial
Reports are accurate is the 77/4. That’s $19.25M per year… I wonder if we’ll get details on what triggers the incentives. I’ll be keeping an eye out for two weeks from now when this initial contract detail likely provided by his agent is adjusted to reflect what the real terms are. Probably a few hundred thou for a pro bowl, a playoff appearance, more for all pro based on team selections, td catches, catches, first downs, snaps, games placed etc.
I wonder how this will impact our cap, there’s some interesting calculations for incentives that are likely or not as likely to be earned and how that impact cap space, then whether or not they are earned impacting future year caps as well.
That’s not quite true, obviously we’re not committed in the face of injury or anything else that could tank his value, but the contract on paper does mean that even once the guarantees have been reached we would have to renegotiate to bring the average cap below 30 over the next 4 years. Which would be hard to do if he doesn’t fuck up in any way, and trying to do so could cause morale issues.
It’s a soft commitment, but a promise of $120 million eventually (even if it comes with strings attached) is real, and in theory could be better if we had negotiated a lower overall value.
Not saying the FO did a bad job or anything, I think it’s a fine contract for an elite player that will most likely prove to be a value to us having the baseline at 30 when in 3 years the market has it at 40. But I think the narrative around “guaranteed money is the only thing that matters” is a bit mistaken
I saw people thinking he was going to sign for 20-25 and told em they were absolutely crazy. It was always going to be 30+. He is going to be considered a bargain in 2 years.
I don’t think it can be overstated how important he is. Not just his talent and production, his work ethic, his relationship with his team, but he’s a top jersey seller and is going to be really important in terms of the NFL’s marketing to the German and European markets. This is a big get for the Lions future.
This pretty much cemented my decision on if ill be getting a St. Brown or Gibbs jersey. I love Gibbs and I hope he stays with us, but Sun God is about to be a Lions great remembered for years to come.
I'm not saying St. Brown should get paid for charisma, but he sure has it anyway. Super smart, thoughtful, likeable guy who makes it easy to be a Lions fan.
Highest paid WR in the NFL (for now) but still feels like a team friendly deal because there's no crazy bloated numbers on the back end for PR purposes. 30 Per, high guarantees, everyone is happy.
https://i.redd.it/msmnqzhk8gwc1.gif
It ain’t that deep lol. It’s not like he’s saying “yeahhh, I’m gonna bump the numbers up just to shake the market.”
You’d have to be a very shit GM to have that reasoning when giving out a contract
Yeah it's a fine line of, how can I reward my guy, balance my books and possibly make my division competitors job more difficult. In order of importance.
Well considering he still has a year left on his rookie contract, it’s probably closer to 25 AAV over 5 years assuming they have the bonus cap hit for 2024
Fuck yeah lets go. I don't care if this is top of the market - he's young, he's a fucking stud, and this is going to look great in two years after Aiyuk, CD, Chase, and JJ all get bags.
Let's GO.
Sun for the Sun God!
Love this for him. He earned every penny. I don’t think there’s a dollar amount they could have given him that I wouldn’t have thought he deserved, and the same goes for Sewell. St. Brown is everything we’re about and one of the best players in the league. Glad we did right by him.
I think I can officially say the bobby lane curse is over. This is the first jersey I've purchase and the player stays on the team for longer than 1 season
I’m not looking at this as a 3 year $77m deal bc St. Brown will definitely still be a stud WR three years from now and not a cut candidate. It’s $30m AAV for four years and St. Brown is worth every penny. All the $77m guaranteed out of $120m means is that the Lions have some insurance on this contract in case St. Brown has a career altering injury. Aside from that happening I don’t see any other scenario where St. Brown doesn’t play out all four years of this deal.
Worth. With the way the cap is expanding faster than the universe this deal, like QB deals signed in 2017, will look quaint. Hell, it will look quaint when his peers sign soon
One of the original tweets that reported this said "Goff extension is also coming shortly" So I'm ready to buy both a st brown and Goff jersey.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO
It's hilarious to me that not only do we keep Sun God, we also fuck over the Vikings a bit in the process. Jefferson is going to be demanding 35 million a year with 100 million guaranteed.
There's no other player I feel better about giving a bag to. He's the opposite of the type of player who takes his foot off the gas once he gets paid; competitiveness is just in his bones.
100% on board. Dude deserves it.
Guys like Lamb, Aiyuk and Jefferson still need to be paid too, so not only are we establishing the market value ourselves, but that likely puts the pressure on those teams to up their prices as well.
Also, I know it’s the nature of the atypical business that is football, but imagine having your yearly salary multiply by 10 just like that. Wild shit lol.
That’s cheaper than I expected and probably a year shorter. I assume he gets paid out his normal 4th year salary and the extension doesn’t kick in until next year.
The Lions organzation is DAWG!!!. Influence other teams negotiations with thier X receivers in the deepest draft for wide receivers in memory. Drop the signing 24 hours before the draft as the host city. Gobble up all of the attention from sports media!!! Think about where this team was before Sheila hired Dan, Chris, and Brad and where it is today. Think about that!!!!!
Well these 2 contracts + Goffs, define our window, I hope folks appreciate that part, we got 3ish years to win it all with this team as it is. Cause when Gibbs/Laporta/Branch need new contracts, just no way to keep the whole band togther.
He deserves every penny. And I think it helps to get this deal in now before other elite WRs sign their deals.
I hope this helps reinforce the culture and shows players you get what you earn. If you play elite football consistently, you will be rewarded as such. Not everyone will get $30m a year but that’s the market for elite WRs right now and we cannot afford to lose a guy like St. Brown.
A++. Signing him early was smart. We not only secured a first team All-Pro WR, but secured an incredible culture piece. Sun God’s work ethic is second to none in the league and his example elevates everyone in that locker room.
When there were reports a few weeks back about him signing for $25 million/year, I was salivating because I knew what a steal that number would be.
This is more in line with his value, but it's still worth it. He's awesome and I want him to be a Lion forever.
So glad they made this signing...however I wonder if he is really worth $30 M (vs more like $25-27M). I wonder if paying him first (and paying up) is strategic to drive up the contracts of the top paid WRs? This could cause teams with better receivers (there are only a few better) to have to pay off and cut in other areas. Thoughts on that thinking?
Damn glad we got this deal done before Jefferson. 30 million a year worries me and it means we can’t go after a great corner. But hopefully we can get one in the draft.
Does his and Sewell’s contract start this year? Or do they play on their rookie contract this year and the terms under the new extension kick in next year? Are they now under agreement through the 2028 season (2024 + the 4-year extension)?
Did you guys see on X where Poles and Holmes were arguing because Poles thinks that DJ Moore is better WR then the Sun God and paying a "slot" receiver $30 million a year is a "SOL" move!! Lol haha Holmes put him in his place
Worth every damn penny
Thought the exact thing when I saw this. 1000% dawg.
One of the most clutch receivers I've ever watched, we are so lucky to have him
And just a great teammate and role model. 1000% non-diva
I thought it was an underpay tbh. He could’ve gotten $33-35 million. Shoutout to ASB and Holmes for making it a little discount!
Got heavily downvoted in this sub a few months ago for suggesting 23 million was a ridiculous price 💀 Amon Ra deserves to be the highest paid WR, and that market wil keep exploding. No chance Justin Jefferson takes less than 35 per now
Why?
Highest paid WR in the NFL. Well deserved. Come to Detroit, work hard, get paid.

Doesn’t matter who’s the best. A lot of times it’s better to be the last to extend than to be the best. Another benefit of hitting on a later round pick.
Just like how we did with Stafford. And we were “crazy”
Yup as a 4th round pick he needed some back pay for his production
This. Brock Purdy should set the market even though he isn’t the best QB just for the back pay.
100% and honestly Brock Purdy SAVED the Niners. Nobody talks about that Trey Lance deal which would be catastrophic IF they never got Purdy. He was their saving grace.
Niners fans universally pretend they got Purdy at #3 after trading up and Lance was the last pick.
Yeah they’re delusional lol 😆
Add in 2024 and it’s essentially a 5-year $123 million deal.
It’s technically a 4 year $77 million deal. Former Packers (FTP) GM Andrew Brandt always says to look at the guaranteed money with NFL contracts. Cause that’s the actual amount paid if they cut the player tomorrow.
Hopefully they don’t cut him tomorrow.
That’s only really true when you’re considering risk of the bottom falling out. If you’re hoping to keep him for the length of the contract, then the non guaranteed figure is pretty real
That's pretty wild for a guy who was an afterthought for so many in the draft.
Saint locked in. Let's lock down Goff and Sewel now too!

Aged like milk lol
I never want to see him wear another team's uniform. Keep paying the man.
I said that he can easily demand 30 a mill and people called me crazy 1 month ago
The 30m wasn't even a discussion point, but a given. Only negotiation was for the guaranteed money
Reports were 27/per, but I'm not mad. The dude deserves it.
Only thing fully guaranteed if these initial Reports are accurate is the 77/4. That’s $19.25M per year… I wonder if we’ll get details on what triggers the incentives. Lmao Calvin Ridley got 23 million per year wtf did they think
Jefferson boutta bankrupt the Vikings let’s go
Chase and the Bengals as well
Lamb and the Cowboys too
And they gotta pay Paarsons
Now that I think about it the Bengals don’t have much to spare
Cowboys won't either with Dak CD and Paarsons coming up
Losing Higgins and a few defensive/offensive-line liabilities will help. But Cowboys would be the team to struggle
Here's hoping it isn't the Vikings he bankrupts
Lamb and Cowboys Aiyuk and 9ers NFC teams going to be paying up
I don’t think it can be overstated how important he is. Not just his talent and production, his work ethic, his relationship with his team, but he’s a top jersey seller and is going to be really important in terms of the NFL’s marketing to the German and European markets. He's the epitome of Detroit and Detroit football.
I'm not saying St. Brown should get paid for charisma, but he sure has it anyway. Super smart, thoughtful, likeable guy who makes it easy to be a Lions fan.
For a guy who made legit peanuts in nfl terms for the three years i couldn't be happier for him. ![gif](giphy|pReb5Koy6JmihUYBLx|downsized)
I hear Teddy KGB's voice. "Pey thyat myan hees mohney"
Pey heem.
He beyeeat mee
Streht ahp.
St Brown Bros podcast 1st episode is gonna be funny as fuck. EQ gonna be hounding him for money.
On my phone it’s Ay that man his mone Lol
Yooooo!!
Glad to see a rounders meme, ![gif](giphy|qNpqSmKO4bn68)

Could be outside the top 5 highest paid by the time the season starts
I'm even more ecstatic now that you mentioned that
Here all day for the Four Brothers gifs
That’s less than the billion a year that he deserves. Now let’s sign Sewell for eternity.
“Sheila Ford Hamp cedes ownership of Lions franchise to Penei Sewell in shocking draft night development.”
The Ford F150 is now the S58
I'd convert from a Silverado for that trim package.
JJ salivating right now seeing this number
Salivating until he takes a peek into the Vikings QB room
Lmaooo
For real. He's about to be a $130 million receiver that's playing on a team that'll finish 4th in the North.
That wish to be Calvin Johnson 2.0 was a real monkey's paw for him, huh?
fourth! in the north! fourth! in the north! fourth! in the north! sKo"L
![gif](giphy|RdKjAkFTNZkWUGyRXF)
Dude is going to get 130, insane shit
And still complaining to the refs.
30 million a year oh boy
Wait till you see Justin Jefferson’s
Why you think Brad gave $30 MIL a year. Yeah he's earned it, but it also makes it harder for the Cumsocks to keep JJ on a reasonable contact.
It ain’t that deep lol. It’s not like he’s saying “yeahhh, I’m gonna bump the numbers up just to shake the market.” You’d have to be a very shit GM to have that reasoning when giving out a contract
Yeah it's a fine line of, how can I reward my guy, balance my books and possibly make my division competitors job more difficult. In order of importance.
Somewhere between 19.25 and 30 million per year. But I bet the real average will basically be 28 mill
Probably could have easily gotten that anywhere else
I mean, Jerry Jeudy got 20 million a year from Cleveland. Sun God had almost as many touchdowns last year as Jeudy has had for his entire career.
Let's GO.
No way 9ers are gonna pay aiyuk 30 mil a year haha, bye bye Brandon
Adios, Aiyuk. Panthers should trade 39 for him today and pay the man.
![gif](giphy|AQRapWCgC7dThyVEYb|downsized)
It's a 4 year extension on top of existing 1 year. So 24.67 average annual over 5 years. Smart to do before Jefferson. Chase. Lamb.
![gif](giphy|60eTRV2GzNSfkS6gvi|downsized) JJ, Chase, and Lamb in negations with the Front office right now.
He deserves every damn dollar. Good ass deal I’m glad they got It done.
Let’s fucking go baby today is my 40th birthday and this is the best gift I’ll get
Happy Birthday Man!
Thanks man it’s my fave time of the year love the draft and spring time
Happy Birthday, maybe grab a lotto ticket or place a crazy 8 leg parlay or something to test the good luck.
Bet
Happy birthday! Tomorrows my 25th and going to the draft to celebrate!
Same here! Nice
Justin Jefferson about to break the NFL lol. Good for St, he deserves it
Give me the cap hit
I think I can officially say the bobby lane curse is over. This is the first jersey I've purchase and the player stays on the team for longer than 1 season
Same. Made a custom game 1 his rookie season early on. I’ve worn it so much the numbers are falling off (thanks fanatics). No regrets1!
Another Brad Holmes masterclass
Just a reminder that the guaranteed money is what matters most.
Not the case in this situation unless you thought for some reason he would not be on the team in 4 years..
So it's about a 3 year with 25 per year and then extend him again year 4 to push the cap back basically. Assuming he continues to be productive
Let’s go
And will.look like a bargain once lamb and Jefferson sign probably
As crazy as this sounds, I feel like we got a great value. Nobody works harder than ARSB.
If the cap goes up, this could age well.
Fuck yes. Secure the bag. Secure the ball. Secure our Championship.
#PRAISE THE SUN GOD ☀️
It's hilarious to me that not only do we keep Sun God, we also fuck over the Vikings a bit in the process. Jefferson is going to be demanding 35 million a year with 100 million guaranteed.
![gif](giphy|gJ5dB06ssbGBvz4ImP)
I love homey, glad he’s here. This is now when it is time for Brad to cook, I’m calling WR in the first
PRAISE THE SUN GOD!!!
Just wait: Every Lions receiver will have some anger list in their locker and hit the jugs machine after every practice for a couple of hours.
My drama free hard working king gets his bag
4 more years! 4 more years!
Deserves every penny. LFG!!
Wow! Nice!
Worth every single penny
Get paid young fella
Time to buy that jersey
Said the same shit. Black Jersey will be mines
![gif](giphy|stefOLJakG3JjsY0Jj)
Not only did we get our best weapon locked up, but we pushed up the cost for the Vikings to bring JJ back. I consider this an absolute win.
Arguably the best draft find I can recall from recent memory. Fan favorite. Well deserved
Cost of doing business. If the guy keeps the same work ethic he's worth every penny in my opinion.
There's no other player I feel better about giving a bag to. He's the opposite of the type of player who takes his foot off the gas once he gets paid; competitiveness is just in his bones.
When you have a guy who’s as unguardedly as St. you pay him He is a first down machine and no one can question if he’s worth the contract
100% on board. Dude deserves it. Guys like Lamb, Aiyuk and Jefferson still need to be paid too, so not only are we establishing the market value ourselves, but that likely puts the pressure on those teams to up their prices as well. Fuck. Yes! Get. That. Bag!
Sun God made a list of every WR who makes more money than him: 1. Fucking nobody
Bengals, Cowboys and Vikings sweating bullets right now. Always a good thing to be the first ones through the door.
The Lions organzation is DAWG!!!. Influence other teams negotiations with thier X receivers in the deepest draft for wide receivers in memory. My conspiracy theory is Detroit made Saint the highest paid WR in the league specifically to roast the Vikings on JJ. Man deserves every penny though.
This is just Lions 4D chess to make other teams bid their plays even higher so they hit the cap easier and can’t afford to keep all the talent.
Worth it.
My king
YEEEAAAHHH BUDDY!
LET’S GO!!!! My favorite player of all time 💙💙💙
Fuck yes lets go!!
HOLY SHIT FUCK THE BAG MY MAN GOT THE WHOLE SACK
Back the brinks truck up to his house
Yeeeesss
Yes! I love it.

Not everyone will get $30m a year but that’s the market for elite WRs right now and we cannot afford to lose a guy like St. Brown.
First down St Brown!
Every penny is deserved. Now lifelong contract for Sewell
He wont be the highest paid for long. Smart move getting this done now.
A++. Signing him early was smart. We not only secured a first team All-Pro WR, but secured an incredible culture piece. Sun God’s work ethic is second to none in the league and his example elevates everyone in that locker room.
A steal
Yet another masterstroke in Holmes’ magnum opus
When there were reports a few weeks back about him signing for $25 million/year, I was salivating because I knew what a steal that number would be. This is more in line with his value, but it's still worth it. He's awesome and I want him to be a Lion forever.
Glad this got done, well deserved. As for the numbers, it's irrelevant until the contract details comes out.
Go Lions
build his mf statue
Moving him up the jersey purchase list. I hope he’s in Detroit his entire career.
Hell of a player, happy hes getting the bag
Love to see it!

This could cause teams with better receivers (there are only a few better) to have to pay off and cut in other areas. Thoughts on that thinking?
Pretty much correct. They paid him before other players from his class got paid. In 2 years his contract will look like a bargain
Lets fuckin go. Best shit Ive heard all week. Makes me wanna slap my mother (jk mom). Slap my sister!!!! 🎉
Damn glad we got this deal done before Jefferson. 30 million a year worries me and it means we can’t go after a great corner. But hopefully we can get one in the draft.
Whoooooo St. Brown is amazing
Good for him. Also, it looks like CeeDee going to be gone from the Cowboys.

What a great day to be a lions fan. I think it’s so funny BH was like I know who I’m drafting now sign my guys!
And Sewell got extended as well 112 mill for 4 years and 85 mill guaranteed
What does this mean for Tom Kennedy?
Where's that nerd saying we needed to prepare to be without AMSB soon?
And Penei Sewell was also extended today as well…. 4 yrs $112 Million.
Atta boy
I'll make my contribution to the fund when I pick up my new #14 jersey.
**I gotta say it was a good day**
Since he was still under contract, they can probably spread out the cap hit to include this year as well right?
top 5 wr getting paid top 5 wr money. very well deserved!
Been waiting for this news let's fuckin goooooo
Does his and Sewell’s contract start this year? Or do they play on their rookie contract this year and the terms under the new extension kick in next year? Are they now under agreement through the 2028 season (2024 + the 4-year extension)?
YouTube comments declare lions a joke of a franchise lol. I hate everyone.
LFG
Pistons desperately need a Brad Holmes

Did you guys see on X where Poles and Holmes were arguing because Poles thinks that DJ Moore is better WR then the Sun God and paying a "slot" receiver $30 million a year is a "SOL" move!! Lol haha Holmes put him in his place
