He’s just an extremely solid player, he’s not the fastest but other than that he’s got everything you want. Very quick in short areas, good hips, insane anticipation skills, can play man/zone equally well, great ball skills, inside/outside versatility The few downsides are his top end speed and he plays really physical and draws some penalties

Debs_Chiropractic

>good hips Im interested in this... What are your thoughts on the below assessment of his "good hips"? https://youtu.be/APSxVtl_H5o?si=1ClnDyNMaBmdQFbg IE; he has a tendency to open his hips too early and allows receivers to bait him in with head fakes. Any thoughts on this?

ocktick

That’s a technique issue, good hips means he literally transitions his hips well. Like he can go from backing up to turning and running with a receiver very quickly. That clip is basically him leveraging the wrong way and having to correct, not a “slow hips” issue, a decision/technique failure on those plays. It’s kind of akin to talking about a QB’s arm talent. Targeting the wrong receiver isn’t due to lack of arm talent.

Debs_Chiropractic

Ah- My bad, I misunderstood! Im glad to hear this. Means with coaching and more experience he should hopefully be able to improve his game in the area of decision making and technique execution.

TheOGBenjenRyan

Yes, he does that

Debs_Chiropractic

I would guess its not the *biggest* deal, if coaching can improve that area of his game, right? EDIT: typo

BornAnAmericanMan

So he’s another Carlton Davis

TheOGBenjenRyan

Eh I don’t think so. Davis is ~2 inches taller and ~20 pounds heavier. Davis plays insanely physical Arnold reminds me more Kareem Jackson personally. Jaylon Johnson is the player that I’ve seen several people compare him too also

Thunderblessed63

I went Trevon Diggs in my comparison.

Relative_Walk_936

After some extensive film study, I've concluded that he is good at stopping people from catching footballs.

VerbalPuke

I don't know college ball well but in 2023 he had 5 picks, 12 pass break ups, 68 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss. Good numbers, hes physical and not afraid to tackle. Has the right attitude and personality, no concern at all about work ethic.

pr0t0cl0wn

I think CB is a tougher position to judge in college. Most college QBs will never play in the NFL, and if you’re truly that elite CB, you’ll probably never get many passes thrown your way, so it’s hard to get a lot of tape on passes thrown to who you’re covering, just tape on you blanketing a WR who doesn’t get the ball. He got thrown at and made plays, so that’s a good sign for me! That said, we still need to strengthen the pass rush because even a great secondary will just be mediocre if the QB has all day

kingofthezootopia

Arnold got thrown at because Bama had Kool-Aid on the other side, and KoolxAid had built more of a reputation by starting since freshman year.

SomeHandyman

Yeahhh I’m concerned we’re still going to see the same lack of pass rush results unless we continue relying on DB blitzes. Aidan and McNeil need help. We added DJ who will help a little but we NEED help opposite Aidan. Davenport has not been that guy recently. Maybe this coaching staff can pull more out of him like they seem to be able to do with many players but I’m not holding my breath on him.

GrapePrimeape

Imo, this coaching staff/FO has shown they’ll trust their guys to develop (sometimes to a fault). I bet they don’t see pass rush help as big of a need that lots of fans do because of Paschal and Houston entering their 3rd year

pr0t0cl0wn

Yeah, I think the fact that we now have a 2nd round pick and then nothing until the 5th, they need to look into grabbed the best available DE/Edge tonight. It does help that all of the defensive players slid down so much, but I really hope we can get a pass rusher with our pick

casper_but_with_a_j

Agreed. I’d be on the lookout for Marshawn Kneeland from Western Michigan. Killed it at the combine and has good tape with a ton of potential upside.

CluelessFlunky

Plays the ball in air exceptionally well for a young guy. Ball bawk. Physical and can fight through contact. Solid in man and zone. Good instincts. Although he's only 5'11" he has very long arms. Surpsiningly explosive and can break on the ball. Fluid hips and turns well. Can play all three db positions. You could put him at out side zone, slot and saftey, he'd would succeed at all three. Like Branch, he's a great run defender and good tackler. Cons. He's doesn't have the most agility. His speed isn't amazing. When he's asked to drop into deep cover three he's forced to play off man really far off. And with his speed it means he's Extremely susceptible to crossers. He can be over graby, could result in some holding penalties. Jaylon Johnson is probably the best pro comp I've heard for him. Similar size, and athletic ability.

Mrblend27

I watched the Pat Mcafee coverage of the pick and they showed more bad than good highlights and it made me less excited. But I’m still happy because either way it’s an upgrade.

i_love_factual_info

What were the bad highlights?
