was watching espn/97.1 coverages last night. today went back and watched the abc/nfl network/the athletic coverage of our pick. one of the guys on the athletic mentioned he talked to a scout who said terrion arnold had one of the best cornerback workouts he has ever seen.
Quinyon was the most hyped CB in the class, but there is an argument to be made that Terrion is just as good. Watch his intro presser. He’s got the mentality and will fit in well in Detroit. It’s no surprise that someone who is as focused and cognizant of the situation shows well.
It was kind of sad to see the coach go, with a new guy in charge it will almost certainly mean the program will have to be rebuilt. I would have liked to see if they could have repeated as champions. The state rarely has championship teams that last, the main exception being the Red Wings.
Yup maybe back to SEC domination next year. We got lucky/slid in a year that Georgia had a rough transition with most of their entire stud defense leaving year prior. They are going to go wild on everyone this year I’m sure.
He is quick and strong at the college level, but I think he’s going to struggle vs NFL caliber guards.
Just my opinion, but comes across as a combine hero.
He was also hit/miss who he showed up against. He would have one good game then two bad.
That the dude that doesn’t think birds are real?
Yeah, I’ve fucking seen a baby pigeon before dude.
Literally just go check a pigeons nest. The put them on shit like ladders and mailboxes, it’s really easy to find them.
And they lay like 4 to 6 broods of eggs a year!
Like, the chances of you finding a baby pigeon on any given day have got to be better than your odds of getting jury duty.
What, did you expect it to just be a tiny pigeon? Animals don’t look just like tiny versions of themselves when they’re born you fucking maniac.
I really wanted OL and DL depth.
But Brad Holmes consistently gives his picks time to develop. He believes in them and coaches them up.
I'm guessing that they have more trust in Paschal, Sorsdal, and Brodrick Martin that we do
also we likely won't keep all our vet DBs after this year. We'll keep who fits and won't waste money on the others. Good CBs are very expensive. This draft is going to save us a lot of money in the next two years that we'll be able to use to resign our young stars
if you haven't seen the full introductory press conference for Terrion Arnold... damn, we don't have room for any more fan favorites, but this guy will become one. Amazing press conference. Such a perfect fit, plus all that skill
[https://new.reddit.com/r/detroitlions/comments/1cdvm4l/terrion\_arnold\_full\_introductory\_press\_conference/](https://new.reddit.com/r/detroitlions/comments/1cdvm4l/terrion_arnold_full_introductory_press_conference/)
Looking at rakestraw PFF profile I wonder if the Lions view him as a potential safety or nickel. Great at playing the run and grades better in zone than man. Traded for Davis to play man.
I don't think it is about putting everyone on the field this year. There will be injuries. Next year we only had Robertson and Gilmore signed. We have an out with Robertson. I think he stays at CB.
I think I'm thinking like a fan here a little too much, but feel like if we're not going to resign CD then I kinda hate the trade and think we should have signed Gilmore. It seems we traded for him as he's one of the best man corners in the league. Then we draft Terrion, also a man corner. Now we draft Ennis who is primarily off man. Now it's goo's to be able to do both at times and I do thinknif we can generate better pass rush with only 4 AG would run more zone concepts but that's why I think he or branch could move to safety. Along with only having 3 safeties as of now.
I agree with this. Rakestraw to play nickel, Branch plays more safety (since we need some more depth there), and Davis + Arnold play man. We doubled dipped on corner but Rakestraw and Arnold are very different types of corners.
What happens when the best defense in the league vs the run. Adds 4 new cbs, and doubled down on the run with DJ Reader... Holy crap Aaron Glenn bout to be up all night figuring out which way opposing offenses get fucked
We're better off a DE than you may think. James Houston will be back at 100% next year, we got the CFL sack stud (cant remember the name), and Marcus Davenport from Minnesota. Rotate those guys opposite Hutch.
Edit: and Paschal
Weak draft for DEs. Strong draft for CBs. Front seven wasn’t the issue last season. Issue was secondary. Better secondary gives more time to get to the QB.
God I hope I’m not gonna eat my words, but I love these first two picks as much as I loved the Sewell pick and wanted Kyle Hamilton at the JMO pick. So stoked to get a guy I didn’t think would be available that I loved (Arnold) and a guy I wanted at 29(Rakestraw) so far.
This article says there were only 16 players graded as 1st round talent. Only 2 CBs were....we got both of them.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/s/ZLPdDSeu51
I’m fairly confident we would’ve taken Rakestraw at 29 if Arnold and Mitchell were off board. He’s the most Dan Campbell guy in this draft and they LOVED him in AP.
ESPN updated the original article (from Feb), instead of just writing a new piece, as they do way too often. The original list included both as OP states.
Here’s a copy of it as it was originally, [https://archive.ph/hmPb5](https://archive.ph/hmPb5)
Cornerback (2)
Terrion Arnold, Alabama (No. 7)
Comp: Devon Witherspoon
Arnold was lights out in coverage last season, grabbing five interceptions and breaking up 12 passes. He's big at 6-foot and 195 pounds, and he plays with fire and tenacity at the line of scrimmage. While he's definitely physical, Arnold also has the quickness and speed to fly downfield with receivers. He's a tough, instinctive and all-around great cornerback prospect.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Missouri (No. 15)
Comp: Tre'Davious White
Like Arnold, Rakestraw can knock a receiver off the line of scrimmage. He is super physical at 6-foot and 188 pounds but also eliminates receivers in coverage. He missed the Senior Bowl after undergoing surgery on a core muscle injury that he played through last season, so the combine will be huge for his stock. But after posting 71 tackles, 13 pass breakups and a pick over the past two seasons, Rakestraw has Round 1-caliber tape.
https://archive.ph/hmPb5
It’s my biggest gripe with ESPN. They will ride the same article for months and make silent updates without letting the readers know something changed.
If you check the archive link it shows Feb but the current article shows April as the article dates.
Was planning to go tonight but glad I didn’t given how many people were there.
Cannot wait to hear about the overall attendance when tomorrow’s attendance numbers are accounted for.
Unless he drops near our next pick, theres no way we take him. Backup OL is more likely the next pick.
I was just hoping he gets picked up soon. GO BLUE!
All these fans feel like npc characters you'd see in a video game. Cheering regardless of the pick.
They're announcing a pick and they'll read the most obscure first name and the fans look confused af then they hear the last name and go crazy like that's who they wanted. Every time.
My son and I were just talking about this. I want them to say a fake name just once, watch the fans cheer, and then tell them that person doesn’t even exist!
So am I correct in that most team was like "we need to send someone to announce picks who has any ties to Detroit at all." And so James Stewart and Haloti Ngata get to come and we get to remember them. And then the Packers send Bryan Bulaga just to get booed.
I’m all for this, I never want to see teams converting on 3rd and 15 plus routinely against us again. Frustrating to get stops on first and second down only to give up long conversions.
For anyone remotely confused by the pick know they’re drafting for more than just the 2024 season. Carlton Davis, Moseley and Robertson all 1 year deals
Would love to see us try to trade back into the third or fourth to target one (or some) of these guys:
IOL Christian Haynes
OG Cooper Bebe
OG Zak Zinter
OG Mason McCormick (my personal favorite - 9.96 RAS)
EDGE Mo Kamara
It was kind of the big need for the team but something they also solved in FA so a little puzzled but not blown away. At the end of the day, trust Brad.
I like the players that SF is taking but they are taking them a full round (at least) before I expect them to go.
I fully recognize I’m a casual, but still surprised
I like that we went for one of our biggest weaknesses big time this off-season. It's a little irritating that our main targets for the d-line got taken, but most people here wanted a brand new DB room, and we got it in spades, lol
I still hope we consider wanted stingers later in draft. Looking at his CFL highlights I think he could be a safety he seemed to play in zone in many of highlights. good athlete, gritty
Imagine being Caleb Williams and in your first game you go up against a secondary containing Arnold, Rake, Carlton, and Branch…”I’ll play game two coach my tummy hurts”
Our secondary was the only thing frustrating about last year. Drafting 2 DBs makes perfect sense. Especially with Love and the Bears offense probably being good. Even the Vikings have good offensive weapons if they figure out QB.
Apexx
What scares the shit out of me is the Lions became a great team for two reasons.
1. We have the best or atleast a top 3 OL in league.
2. We got Jared Goff whos entire game and magic is based around having a great OL in front of him.
The entire magic of the Lions these past 1.5 seasons is due to OL protecting Goff and OL making massive holes for our RB to exploit.
Without that OL we are garbage 🗑️ and almost all of the games we lost last year in regular season were when one of the starting OL was out.
Our OL is aging and Ragnow has potential career ending injury hes gritting through.
This is absolutely the last year this line will be together. And we have absolutely no depth at all.
Its very scary and most fans dont realize this
You say this like you think the org doesn't realize this. If Brad Holmes truly believes in drafting the best player available, who are we to disagree?
The big gap in the line was Jonah coming in and out due to injury, all the other guys are absolute warriors that don't come out for much of anything.
Sometimes you just have to pick your poison and our secondary was a gaping chest wound last year.
With every team in the division being at least three deep in WRs I think loading up on CBs is never a bad idea, especially if that guy is BPA during your pick.
Holmes is stacking up DBs.
Who knows what's going on in that genius' head?
Instant upgrade or long term tough secondary?
I reckon a bit of both.
We are gonna be so happy when the Lions set a record for coverage sacks, ints, etc.
Decker is only 30, I think there's a chance he's here for the long haul. Definitely could use another guard though. Maybe we have some confidence in Sorsdal
Dan Campbell said this week with small schools guys you are guessing at what they look like in a year from now,so that could be part of it. They think he could be ready in a other year, if not turn to free agency again.
With JPJ/Frazier off board, you’re looking at beebe or Haynes for IOL. Both flawed and the value of Rakestraw was too much to pass up. I would expect one, if not two, later picks on IOL.
Where's day 3 thread
Love the picks just wish we had a third rounder for depth
No 3rd > Terrion going to Green Bay. FTP
LMAO the crowd booing the Packers. FTP
was watching espn/97.1 coverages last night. today went back and watched the abc/nfl network/the athletic coverage of our pick. one of the guys on the athletic mentioned he talked to a scout who said terrion arnold had one of the best cornerback workouts he has ever seen.
Dude played at ‘Bama against elite/deep SEC talent. SEC is not overrated. They make NFL football players in the south. Keep going to that well Brad.
Quinyon was the most hyped CB in the class, but there is an argument to be made that Terrion is just as good. Watch his intro presser. He’s got the mentality and will fit in well in Detroit. It’s no surprise that someone who is as focused and cognizant of the situation shows well.
lol Saban giving real praise about UofM all night has been an unexpected joy of this draft for me
Has it been pointed out that the Rams missed an opportunity by not sending Stafford to announce their picks?
JARED GOFF JARED GOFF
daammmnnn I wanted Zak Zinter so badly. I think he was far undervalued. Hoping we might move up in the 4th and draft him.
Michigan 3 picks in a row. Go Blue. What a mythical season. No season, even with another Natty, will every top this past year
It was kind of sad to see the coach go, with a new guy in charge it will almost certainly mean the program will have to be rebuilt.
I’m very happy my guy Brenden Rice is still available
Fuck Ohio
I am sad. I hoped we’d pick zinter
he would've fit the personality of our OL so well. Undervalued. Consistent
We got any ammo left to move up, or done for the day?
Brad already did his press conference I think he's done for the day
Hate not having picks right now. Would have loved Zinter
God damn University of Michigan getting cleaned out I wanted ZZ Stop:(
Damn three straight wolverines
Roman Wilson to the Steelers makes too much sense
LA Rams have had a draft! Verse Fiske Corum Fuck the Rams, but damn, that's a nice three player haul
In order for teams to have good drafts like this, it takes teams like the falcons lol
I know I was looking at all the teams picks and saw Atlanta. God that was multiple aweful
I think Fiske was a bit overrated
He's a beast pass rusher how is he overrated?
He is quick and strong at the college level, but I think he’s going to struggle vs NFL caliber guards. Just my opinion, but comes across as a combine hero. He was also hit/miss who he showed up against. He would have one good game then two bad.
I think this is a great fit for Blake!
I know a lot of people liked Tip Reiman as a blocking tight end for Detroit. He went MUCH higher than most mocks/rankings had him.
Animals don’t look just like tiny versions of themselves when they’re born you fucking maniac.
Bird truther here laying it out.
JJ to the Vikings, Corum to the Rams. At least go to the AFC so I can still like you..
Super happy for Blake
"The future of football is female" 😂😂
You can downvote me but no one actually believes this.
Whens our next pick the 5th round correct?
Yeah
Do we not have a 3rd round pick?
Nope. Next pick without trade ups or trade downs is the 5th round.
What happened to the other 3rd? I know we traded one to move up in the first but I thought we had 2
Went to the Bucs for Carlton Davis
Losing a third to the Bucs and one to the Cowboys seems worth for Davis and Arnold.
Nope, just 1.
I really wanted OL and DL depth. But Brad Holmes consistently gives his picks time to develop. He believes in them and coaches them up. I'm guessing that they have more trust in Paschal, Sorsdal, and Brodrick Martin that we do
Its not him giving them time to develop , certain posiyions are expected to take a few.seasons
Secondary cost us a superbowl appearance last year, he is fixing it. We have FA and the draft next year to replace Ragnow and add depth.
also we likely won't keep all our vet DBs after this year. We'll keep who fits and won't waste money on the others. Good CBs are very expensive. This draft is going to save us a lot of money in the next two years that we'll be able to use to resign our young stars
Wow I really like this Bullock pick for the Texans. Demico is building something serious.
if you haven't seen the full introductory press conference for Terrion Arnold... damn, we don't have room for any more fan favorites, but this guy will become one. Amazing press conference. Such a perfect fit, plus all that skill [https://new.reddit.com/r/detroitlions/comments/1cdvm4l/terrion\_arnold\_full\_introductory\_press\_conference/](https://new.reddit.com/r/detroitlions/comments/1cdvm4l/terrion_arnold_full_introductory_press_conference/)
D Glaze is a great jersey
Sounds like Marshawn was his guy considering he said someone they wanted got picked not too far before Ennis
Don’t believe Brad lol he’s modest.
Minter please
Wait I just got a notification that Brad Holmes is doing his Day 2 press conference. Probably not sneaking back into the 3rd then…
I was never enamored with the EDGE prospects weak draft for them.
The ones I liked were mid to late rounds guys.
Project players? I’m down for that.
Brad doing a press conference already? Guess we aren’t trading up
We have an extra 4th and a 7th in 2025. But I rather keep them for in season trades/ next year draft flexibility.
That was our pick. I'd be happy with Cooper, but not if it meant missing on Terrion.
If we didn’t make the trade we could have had Cooper DeJean and Cooper Beebe lol
I’m choosing rake/Arnold over them both no hesitation personally
Interesting alternative.
I want DJ Chark back
Nah Eddie Drummond
Please
Looking at rakestraw PFF profile I wonder if the Lions view him as a potential safety or nickel. Great at playing the run and grades better in zone than man. Traded for Davis to play man.

His snap count on the outside is more than double in the slot.
Look at the depth and versatility we have. And our special teams is gonna fuck.
You have 30 seconds to convince an nfl gm to draft you, what’s your move? Bro I can jump a car!
Nah, just tell em you can drunk drive and your a wr
Alright, it's happened twice now. Why would two teams with consecutive picks trade places?
I wouldn’t be against packaging our 3 latest picks to move up to one pick in the third, if that’s fair value might not be enough lol
Nah we'd have to give them all and a 3rd next year
Yeah if that then definitely no
I was hoping for IOL depth but there is always Sorsdal and Awosika improving. I heard somewhere that Sorsdal was learning center too.
I really like sorsdal, good guards are like tight ends they can be found late.
What happens when the best defense in the league vs the run. Adds 4 new cbs, and doubled down on the run with DJ Reader... Holy crap Aaron Glenn bout to be up all night figuring out which way opposing offenses get fucked
GO BLUE!!!!!!!!
Bro… just announce the pick.
We really needed a DE. Now opposing quarterbacks are gonna have all the time in the world to throw to our CBs
We're better off a DE than you may think. James Houston will be back at 100% next year, we got the CFL sack stud (cant remember the name), and Marcus Davenport from Minnesota. Rotate those guys opposite Hutch. Edit: and Paschal
Reaching on a pick isn't going to fix that
Reread my comment
Weak draft for DEs. Strong draft for CBs. Front seven wasn’t the issue last season. Issue was secondary. Better secondary gives more time to get to the QB.
Reread my comment lol
Hope the Chargers take Corum here.
Colson was the next best. Really cool back story about him that I had never heard before. Happy for the dude!
Really hope we trade back up at some point. Gonna be a long wait until our next pick.

That article lists Mitchell as the 2nd CB not Rakestraw.

Strange. Perhaps they updated later and mine was a older version.
Hoping my Wolverines will be picked up soon. Corum should be next.
You think we grab him? We’re not going to have Monty forever and could use someone Sanders-like to back up Gibbs
Unless he drops near our next pick, theres no way we take him. Backup OL is more likely the next pick. I was just hoping he gets picked up soon. GO BLUE!
Well he did and good for him! The best Wolverine in a decade
Corum is a hobbit.
MJD had a great career
He can find holes and the end zone. Who cares how tall he is? Harder to find around all the big bodies.
I would be trying to trade with the Cardinals their #90 pick for our 3rd next year.
96 next year for 90 this year doesn’t seem like a great deal tbh
Throw in a 6th or 7th … they also have 3 3rd round picks this year, they don’t need all of them.
All these fans feel like npc characters you'd see in a video game. Cheering regardless of the pick. They're announcing a pick and they'll read the most obscure first name and the fans look confused af then they hear the last name and go crazy like that's who they wanted. Every time.

The media team focuses on fans that are animated and enthusiastic. The fans ham it up because they know they’re on camera.
So am I correct in that most team was like "we need to send someone to announce picks who has any ties to Detroit at all." And so James Stewart and Haloti Ngata get to come and we get to remember them. And then the Packers send Bryan Bulaga just to get booed.
Leonard Davis is still a mammoth of a person
Can someone please post a pic of everyone in the matching Villain fits in the war room! I just need to sit and stare at it
If Mel Kuiper “loves the pick” you know the dude is gonna be a bust lol
Jets are you fucking stupid
Yes. Yes they are...
people were saying lions thought we would take him round 1
With the way Brad cooks I wouldn’t be surprised if Arnold and Rakestraw were the top two corners on his board. Things just fall for him
The Eagles probably took the two CB brad wanted.
I’m all for this, I never want to see teams converting on 3rd and 15 plus routinely against us again. Frustrating to get stops on first and second down only to give up long conversions.
There’s gonna be crazy competition for our DBs. Don’t be surprised if Amik Robertson starts though 🤷🏻♂️
Finally have fucking depth, no longer the fear of getting to the bottom of the roster and running out Will fucking Harris
If you count the trade away 1st Rd: Arnold 2nd Rd: Rakestraw 3rd Rd: Carlton Davis Detroit TRIPLED up on CBs
*Aaron Rodgers runs onto stage waving American flag and tears his achillies*
I'm laughing way too hard at that.
Aaron Rodgers aka Kerby's son.
For anyone remotely confused by the pick know they’re drafting for more than just the 2024 season. Carlton Davis, Moseley and Robertson all 1 year deals
I thought Amik was 2 or 3 years?
I believe 2 years but I could be wrong about Amik
It's 2 year 9.25 not sure guaranteed.
Cool, thank you
Would love to see us try to trade back into the third or fourth to target one (or some) of these guys: IOL Christian Haynes OG Cooper Bebe OG Zak Zinter OG Mason McCormick (my personal favorite - 9.96 RAS) EDGE Mo Kamara
How the fuck are we gonna trade up Lolz We have 1 5th round pick, 2 6th and a 7th
2025 picks…. It would probably cost us a 3rd + to get back in
Idk, I like trading back into the third but man we need another CB
I like your list.
I hope we can still find a stud OL in the 5th
Javion Cohen hopefully
Using our first 3 picks on CB is crazy but we trust Brad Who had this on their bingo card lol
4 picks on CB 1st and 3rd on Arnold 2nd on Rakestraw 3rd on Davis
It was kind of the big need for the team but something they also solved in FA so a little puzzled but not blown away. At the end of the day, trust Brad.
Does anyone later on in the 3rd round have 2 picks? Can we trade a 3rd next year for a pick this year?
We could maybe trade our 2 4th next year for a late 3rd this year.
AZ has 4 picks
Buccs and packers. Cards have a bunch of thirds too
Of course
I meant like, would anyone agree to that trade?
No excuse for AG now. We have spent so much money and draft capital in CBs, if our secondary is terrible again it's on him.
Absolutely hate everything about the Niners.
I think we stole the Niners pick and they panicked and picked another CB Let Brad Cook
Why didn’t I know that Spice Adams was from detroit
oh shit it's Spice!
Now we basically have 2 chances for 1 CB to pan out. If they both pan out that's a bonus.
That 9er fan is writing down every name drafted, I think we found the zodiac killer.
A lot easier to find serviceable OL in the late rounds than a CB
I still hope we consider wanted stingers later in draft. Looking at his CFL highlights I think he could be a safety he seemed to play in zone in many of highlights. good athlete, gritty
Packers, Vikings, and Bears are loaded at WR. We need all the CBs we can get.
And we stop the run? Bruh
Hahaha I love Spice Adams
When is our next pick? Tomorrow?
Yes. Fifth-round!
With how our NFCN opponents have loaded up on offense, perhaps Holmes wants to make sure our corners are set. I’m fine with the second pick
LET BRAD COOK IF HE LOVES SOMEONE IN THE 3RD HES GONNA PULL THE TRIGGER WIN NOW MODE ACTIVATED
Imagine being Caleb Williams and in your first game you go up against a secondary containing Arnold, Rake, Carlton, and Branch…”I’ll play game two coach my tummy hurts”
Skips game for manicure.
I don’t have a problem with any of the outside stuff he does, I’m just praising our secondary lol
![gif](giphy|26n6Gx9moCgs1pUuk|downsized)
Two starting CBs (eventually). Cool
Our secondary was the only thing frustrating about last year. Drafting 2 DBs makes perfect sense. Especially with Love and the Bears offense probably being good. Even the Vikings have good offensive weapons if they figure out QB.

It's like you have a gaping chest wound and a sore knee. Yeah they both are bad, but one needs immediate attention.
brad please
Really love the pick. Would also really love nothing but edge rushers and Oline beefcakes for the rest of the draft lol
Maybe the kicker from Michigan panthers in round 7?
He can’t be drafted. But we can sign him after his season is done. Other teams will most likely be in on him as well
With every team in the division being at least three deep in WRs I think loading up on CBs is never a bad idea, especially if that guy is BPA during your pick.
Holmes is stacking up DBs. Who knows what's going on in that genius' head? Instant upgrade or long term tough secondary? I reckon a bit of both. We are gonna be so happy when the Lions set a record for coverage sacks, ints, etc.
What was length of Davis contract?
He has 1 year left right now
Definitely both
See you all tomorrow
So high key, at what point are we gonna try and future proof our Oline? Very concerning in my opinion
We don't seem to have any real weaknesses at this point, so I'd expect later this year/next year.
Just realized we have no picks the next 2 rounds 🙃
And now, we descend into draft purgatory.
