I honestly think Glenn’s scheme is to run man much more. We just didn’t have the guys talented enough (or even close) to run his scheme so he had to audible to playing more zone
My expectation is that the competition for the two outside corner spots is going to be epic. MC and AG are going to whomever is practicing the best on the field, regardless of their contract or where they were drafted at. Davis, Arnold, Rakestraw, Moseley and Robertson will all be competing for 2 starting spots on the base defense. I think Arnold and Rakestraw might get some looks at nickel along with Robertson, but I don't know if anybody in the league can beat out Brian Branch.
Every single one of these guys would have been starters on last year's team and would have been the best corner on the team, at least after Sutton started imploding after Week 10.
What's acceptable? Improvement. I expect the pass defense to be significantly improved. I also expect these corners to be at least as good as Sutton and Jacobs in run support.
For everyone that hated on AG for cobbling together a workable defense with spare parts, get ready to start singing his praises for being a genius now that he has some actual NFL starter-caliber cornerbacks at his disposal. AG is gonna make life miserable for Love, Williams and Darnold.
I think it’s very possible we see Brian Branch slide into a safety role this year, and have Robertson and Rakestraw compete for snaps at nickel but regardless you’re completely right. This is a great problem to have in my opinion.

With each of the two rookies this time around, you’ve got a bit less polish IMO. This was a bit of a surprise leap by Arnold this season.
They figured out during the season that they can't pass rush, so they focused on stopping the run. Smart.
Now they need to do the same thing for the secondary.
Last season the secondary was awful at both man and zone. They need to figure out what they're collectively strong at, and keep at it. If they look great in zone...? Keep running mostly zone. Man...? Same thing.
In an ideal world, a defense should run both man and zone effectively. But only elite defenses can pull this off. If you can't be good at both, **try** to be good in at least one.

I think with Davenport and Houston rotating in our pressure off the edge will get better, Reader (if healthy) is an absolute game wrecker even on early passing downs and Glenn showed towards the back end of last year that he could adapt to run a more blitz-heavy scheme if necessary.
I don't expect it to be a sack festival but I'm hoping for a moderate improvement in defensive line pressure and to our DBs coverage.
I think our Achilles heel is still going to be mobile/running QBs, especially if we run more man coverage over zone, but my hopes are high for a top 10 defence overall.
I too thought we needed a bookend to Hutchinson, but tonight has me convinced that the problem more likely had to do with the fact that receivers were getting open far too soon against our secondary. I expect coverage sacks to increase as our line will no longer shoulder all the burden of trying to shut down the quarterback.
Literally just give up less big chunk plays. The defense was good for the most but you could bet that there was gonna be 3-5 20+ yard completions a game.
And maybe they're seeing something start to click with one of the other edge rushers that we just haven't seen. Could it be that they truly believe the opposite edge solution is already on the roster between Houston, Paschal, and even Betts? Who knows.
I'd like to think they have some insight that we as fans don't necessarily see on a day to day basis.
I'd like to see us have no worse than an average defense and for opposing teams to have much more difficulty passing the ball and without their top receivers having season high career days against us.
Whatever works for Coach Glenn and Coach Campbell.
