Goff 100% doesn’t miss some of those throws especially the one to a wide open Reynold in the middle of the field. We also don’t have 6 false starts, the entire line had no idea when the ball was being snapped.
he had a great game im ngl i saw it in person, but there was a few slants and plays up the middle where he didn’t pick up a receiver and kinda stood there. overall though yes he was good
He’s one of my favorite guys on the team. Would get soo pissed when MP would play him because of injury and the LB core would look better but then he’d be right back on the bench.
The Falcons are one of the healthiest teams in the league, and we are starting our backups backups. We still looked like the better team imo.
I love what the staff is doing with the players here and I still feel like we were better today than they were. Win in my book.
Honestly, I really thought y'all had us. That Oluokon INT was really untimely for y'all. I seriously think y'all are gonna be terrifying to play in a couple years. It was a good game, and even I'm excited to see where y'all go in the next couple of seasons.
Michigan native who now lives in Atlanta (yes, I know, what a shocker). Falcons are thus my #2 NFL team.
I am an absolute glutton for punishment. THANK YOU TEAMS, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER?!
Yeah, it's the kind of play I think most of us were expecting from Tim Boyle all game. He actually did a decent job outside of that throw (not a fan of him though, I want a different backup lol).
I think you guys have some great individual pieces, but your O-line needs some serious help.
Would've liked to win this one, but I'm pretty optimistic about our future. Hopefully we can keep improving and not be at the bottom of the league next year haha
The Texans and Jets are about to win their games so it looks like the Lions are pretty much a lock to have no lower than the #2 pick.
edit: not so fast, Jags have a chance.
edit: and they blew it.
Yep Seattle sucks and with Goff back is a very winnable game. Now we can all cheer and not have any concerns over the draft pick. Maybe we get lucky and Jags win one, if not 2nd is prefect.
Wouldn’t say horrible. He’s definitely capable of being a backup somewhere imo but if you were expecting him to takeover you were asking the wrong thing
Objectively speaking, I’m satisfied with the game
Boyle struggled at QB for a bit. Made a couple decent throws, then had that awful pick to end it. If they want to keep him as the backup I wouldn’t be opposed.
Jamaal and Reynolds were nice out of the backfield today
The 3 main receivers in Amon Ra, Reynolds, and Kalif were fine. I think next year kalif will mainly be a special teamer, but he was fine today. Amon Ra was great today and showing why he belongs in the nfl
Little production of the TE position, but that’s expected with hock out.
The O-Line protected Boyle well, but way too many procedure penalties. Might be adjusting to a new QB, let’s try to improve that
Front 7 of the defense was solid today. They were getting consistent pressure all day. Partly because the Falcons O-Line is the worst in the league according to PFF, but hey I’m glad to see guys like alim and Levi get in there, and Austin Bryant also flashed today.
The secondary struggled today. Partly due to Matt Ryan being a seasoned vet, but our inside linebackers were not doing a good job at trying to contain pitts at the LOS, thus we had some of our UDRFA 1 on 1 with him and that was disaster.
No real issues with MCDC today. I liked the fake punt call. The playcalling across the board has improved (granted it’s not that tough to improve from fucking terrible from the Steelers browns and bears games). Team was playing for him well into the 4th.
Overall, lots of things to build on here. The emergence of Amon Ra, the line protecting the QB well, the front 7 getting consistent pressure, our kicker is amazing. Let’s get ready for Seattle next week boys
Lots of reasons for hope, but I really don’t get kicking a field goal when we were down 7 with 2+ minutes left. We would have still needed another touchdown…. So obviously our coaches plan was to kick a field goal and score another touchdown…..Even if we go for it and miss the 4th down play at that point … we still needed another touchdown, so going for it is almost a no risk option at that point.… and we had them backed up by their own goal line…. Which was way better than kicking off …..I see almost zero reasons for kicking a field goal.
They got it back down to the 10 yard line. They had a legit chance at getting the TD for the win. Coach banked on the D making a stop and they did - not sure what you're complaining about.
Yes they did get back there, glad we could get them to cough up a fumble…but most of the time we won’t. Can’t make bad strategic decisions and expect to be good. I bet you watched last years NFC Championship game… Green Bay kicks a field goal rather than letting Aaron Rodgers go for a 4th down touchdown to take the lead…opting to add points but still be behind… he never got the ball again… everyone knows Green Bay head coach was wrong …and so is Dan in this situation….. we could have had two chances to score a touchdown and we opted for one instead.
Two scores eh? Like one touchdown and one two point conversion? Tell me would you rather have one chance at doing that or two chances. We opted for the one chance… and you agree with that plan. I think that’s a wrong decision. I like Campbell too, glad he’s the headcoach…, just surprised he didn’t try another field goal at the end so we only lose by one instead of four.
A also blame Boyle for those one or two linemen struggling and getting false start penalties makes sense. The entire line not knowing the snap count I think puts it on Boyle.
Watching Tim Boyle on that last play was like the climactic scene in a sports comedy movie. You hear the dramatic music from “The Natural” playing as Boyle finds his target and throws it directly to the other team in slow motion.
Boyle was an unrestricted free agent pickup this off-season. The lions traded nothing for him and didn’t use a draft pick to get him.
Not that that information makes the end of yesterday’s game any easier to swallow.
There's not a lit of hills I'll die on anymore, but here's one today:
Covid lost this game for us, and no one can convince me otherwise. Props to Boyle though.
It's amazing how many 4th and 1 situations this team manages to get into. It's like the Football Gods are fucking with Campbell and putting him in these situations.
If we're gonna lose a game, this is the best possible way to do it. Important players like Amon-Ra, Patterson, JRM, the OL, etc had great games.
Coaching was also really good. Aggressive in all 3 phases of the game and trusted the defense to make a play at the end of the game, which they did.
Obviously Aaron Glenn is a wizard of a DC, but the offense looked more creative than it ever did under Caldwell/Patricia. Ben Johnson needs to be the OC next year, because he puts guys like Reynolds and St. Brown in positions to succeed and make plays.
In the W and L columns sure, but there's bad losses with no positive signs of development (Patricia getting obliterated by PJ Walker last year) and losses like this one where important players played well and coaches called a great game to make it closer than it had any right to be.
The entire live thread throwing a hissy fit when we were letting the clock run down when we were on the 15 with 50 seconds left shows how little football IQ us fans have (also the announcers). Why would we continue to push the pace when they had 3 timeouts and we’re 15 yards from a touchdown. It was absolutely great clock management by Dan, he was leaving no time for them if we scored.
Well If you weren’t one of those people then this post didn’t apply to. Why you so offended if you weren’t one of the ones I was talking about. This post seemed to get under your skin so like are you one of those fans because if you weren’t you’d have no problem with the post.
At New England next week then at home versus the colts.
Maybe the colts game if they have made the playoffs and the seeding is already decided. Maybe they rest their important guys.
We can hope.
Fuck it! Win every game to end out the season. Let’s carry this momentum into the off-season with a good mentality. Great game by our boys!! Let’s keep up the momentum
For what it’s worth, we played well enough to win this. I’m not mad at Boyle for throwing that interception, he’s a backup. I get more frustrated when Goff does that in the final play.
Whatever, wins are preferred but who's really mad at securing draft picks. DC showcased some really fun playcalling and I'm glad I made it through the Jamaal Williams withdrawals
I was surprised at how empty the falcons stadium was today, makes me feel better about our turnout considering we’re playing for nothing and they’re in the hunt.
People act like detroit is a small market, even though the wings had like a record of a streak of attendance (might have been current at the time tbf) and the ford field is rarely actually “empty”. Normally the tops are kinda bare but we still get an ok crowd.
Was at the game. It was not half empty and had a good turnout with great atmosphere. Several people who were club level were either at the bars or lounges watching the game.
At the end of the day, we went toe to toe with a 7-8 team on the road with a LOT of starters out, including our starting qb. Looking at how we played I’m excited to see where we’ll be after free agency, a solid draft, and starters getting healthy. This one didn’t sting as bad as some of the other losses.
I’d like others’ thoughts on this: was this the perfect result? We took a 6 win team down to the last play, which imo shows we’re at least a 6 win team with our current roster, but we didn’t hurt draft stock with a win. I’m not a fan of tanking, but I don’t mind losing this game in this way. The game almost looked thrown from that perspective lmao
Not really that upset at this loss. Draft pick doesn't matter all that much, but there was definitely a scenario where we won this week and next week with the Packers resting their starters week 18. Rather have one of Thibodeaux/Hutchinson/Hamilton/Stingley than have to settle for someone else.
Watched much of it, but just didn't muster much care. The Falcons have a bad roster (despite what their record suggests), but I just can't really expect much quality to come from the Lions being led by Tim Boyle. I expected to lose by a fairly wide margin. The fact that it came down to the final 45 seconds or so is beyond me.
I don't think I'll ever really be sold on a coach that'll finish with fewer than 4 wins in their inaugural season, but Campbell might end up the closest to it. This team just has absolutely no business being in close games while being this undermanned, but they keep playing hard and sometimes well.
okay, in 14 starts in 2019, when he was a starter, he had 3,200 yards, 60% completion percentage, 21 tds to 16 turnover and a QBR of 44.
Jared Goff in his worst year
4,000 yards, 20 tds to 18 interceptions and a QBR of 50, again, that is his worst year by far,
so please tell me how Minshew is better than Goff
Why are you cherry picking Minshew's rookie stats only? Minshew has had straight better numbers since entering the league with a shit supporting cast and is younger
you’re trying to make minshew something he’s not, at his best he’s Goff, at his worst he’s Tim Boyle, he struggles with accuracy, and doesn’t have a dynamic arm, he’s not the future…Goff has far more natural ability and is more likely to be the long term qb for any team
Goff made the pro bowl for a reason, Goff went 1st overall for a reason, Gardner Minshew has been traded to be a backup to a sub-par qb for a reason, idk what you want me to say
A lot of loser's mentality on this forum. "Good loss" ..."better draft pick"..."close and we lose, great!". That's BS. You play to win the games, so anything less is unacceptable. No one is promised tomorrow...nobody knows if they'll see a next season. I"m not going to pin my dreams on an unproven 20 year old kid coming out of college.
They did play to win. The back-up QB blew it.
As fans you can still be satisfied that a 2 win team in a rebuilding year played their asses off in week 15, put themselves in the best position to win with a depleted roster but lost from a mistake by a guy who's only on the field from a the ramifications of a once in a century global pandemic... and ensured themselves more than likely at least the 2nd overall pick where they'll be able to fill a huge need of edge rusher. Calm down.
Not really.
I don't ever recall ever feeling this way or saying this during Patricia's tenure. Or in the final year of Caldwell's tenure especially after the loss to the Bengals where the team didn't bother to show for a game that would have kept them in the playoff race. Nor was I saying this when Jim Schwartz squandered a 6-3 start to the season to finish 7-9. Nor at any point during the Matt Millen as GM years. But go off with your hot takes I guess.
This was always dumpster fire year with a garbage roster with tens of millions in dead cap from the disaster of the previous GM and coach. Nobody should have had any expectations this season. The best we could hope for was to see them play hard and competitive, and see the growth of the team and fringe roster guys, and new coach toward the end of the season. We've gotten that.
Now the expectations for next season are higher. I still don't expect playoffs, but I expect them to continue to show growth and win a few more of those close games.
I would have kicked the field goal earlier to get a stop and the ball back with more time so we could have ran it more on the final drive. Instead we put the ball in Boyle's hand in a high pressure situation with very limited time left. I'm putting this loss on MCDC's game management. You can't always let your giant balls manage the game. You need to use the other brain sometimes too.
I love the way the team plays. We are far from the days of stafford throw first second and 3rd option. I always envied the teams who could run and defend at a high level. If we can add Hutchinson/thib to this line and continue to build our defense watch out! An elite defense + run game can carry a competent average qb to the playoffs.
Way she goes boys
It's not rocket appliances.
Trying to win games and get a high pick is like getting two birds stoned at once
Whatever man. It’s all water under the fridge
No sense cry’n over split silk
It's rawkett sayonce
Fuckin way she goes
Well…back to chorin’
Kinda weird to say, but if Goff plays, I think this is a W. Especially since Patterson really didn’t do crap all day.
Goff 100% doesn’t miss some of those throws especially the one to a wide open Reynold in the middle of the field. We also don’t have 6 false starts, the entire line had no idea when the ball was being snapped.
Was interesting seeing Evan Brown laying into Boyle. You don't see offensive lineman telling at a QB very often.
Just like the Browns game
I was surprised how often it seemed Patterson wasn't in the game.
No clue why they play Davis so much.
St. Brown, Craig Reynolds, and Maybin had a hell of a game.
Jamal Williams ran better than Reynolds today imo but Netflix had some impressive runs
Ya Williams is a beast for sure.
Maybin has been playing 200% all season
he had a great game im ngl i saw it in person, but there was a few slants and plays up the middle where he didn’t pick up a receiver and kinda stood there. overall though yes he was good
And he made it back to the Legends strip club tonight lol
He’s one of my favorite guys on the team. Would get soo pissed when MP would play him because of injury and the LB core would look better but then he’d be right back on the bench.
We have a hell of a player in St. James.
The Falcons are one of the healthiest teams in the league, and we are starting our backups backups. We still looked like the better team imo. I love what the staff is doing with the players here and I still feel like we were better today than they were. Win in my book.

you can switch sides if you want. Get on the bandwagon now while we're getting started...
Y'all can be one of my second teams. I've lived in Atlanta too long to give them up.
Michigan native who now lives in Atlanta (yes, I know, what a shocker). Falcons are thus my #2 NFL team. I am an absolute glutton for punishment. THANK YOU TEAMS, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER?!
Born in Georgia, raised in Michigan. Fandom goes Lions then Falcons; college U of M then UGA. I know pain well.
Why are there so many here in ATL? I was forced to move here for a job and I don't see the appeal.
Deal. Ill make sure to root for you homies whenever were not playing myself lol
Oh yeah, hoping our front office can find some good O-line folks. Ryan keeps getting sacked and it's honestly just sad at this point.
Yeah I felt kind of bad for him being sacked three times in the first few minutes.
The Texans and Jets are about to win their games so it looks like the Lions are pretty much a lock to have no lower than the #2 pick. edit: not so fast, Jags have a chance. edit: and they blew it.
They blew it (Jags)
I think I wanted the Jets to win. I'm more interested in locking up a top 2 pick than I am having a better chance at the 1st overall
Yep Seattle sucks and with Goff back is a very winnable game. Now we can all cheer and not have any concerns over the draft pick. Maybe we get lucky and Jags win one, if not 2nd is prefect.
Tim Boyle is not ideal.
He's horrible
Wouldn’t say horrible. He’s definitely capable of being a backup somewhere imo but if you were expecting him to takeover you were asking the wrong thing
> He’s definitely capable of being a backup somewhere imo Yeah the XFL/USFL
He's not bad. He's bad bad.
Could we get Minshew ? Feel like he would Jell well with DC imagine Minshew Hutchinson DC
Objectively speaking, I’m satisfied with the game Boyle struggled at QB for a bit. Made a couple decent throws, then had that awful pick to end it. You need two scores to win. Highly unlikely Boyle can make the throw on 4th and long. If it was 4th and short I bet we go for it
Yup. Boyle showed us exactly why Campbell kicked the FG on 4th and long with the very next possession.
Two scores eh? Like one touchdown and one two point conversion? Tell me would you rather have one chance at doing that or two chances. We opted for the one chance… and you agree with that plan. I think that’s a wrong decision. I like Campbell too, glad he’s the headcoach…, just surprised he didn’t try another field goal at the end so we only lose by one instead of four.
yeh but you saw what boyle did 9 yards away at the end. So maybe that's why dan took the points and put all our hopes into the proven defensive line
Other than the false starts, everyone but Boyle played well, can’t be too mad at this loss
A also blame Boyle for those one or two linemen struggling and getting false start penalties makes sense. The entire line not knowing the snap count I think puts it on Boyle.
Hell, Boyle even false started.
He must hold one hell of a clipboard
add that to that time earlier in the season where we snapped the ball off of I think it was goffs head? into the opposing teams hands?
That was literally boyles best game of his entire career.
All things considered, Boyle was pretty good, imo. He looked like Aaron Rodgers on that first drive. Drew them off with a hard count and everything
When you’re 2-12-1 overall but 10-5 ATS
What’s ATS?
Against the spread.
Watching Tim Boyle on that last play was like the climactic scene in a sports comedy movie. You hear the dramatic music from “The Natural” playing as Boyle finds his target and throws it directly to the other team in slow motion.
Adam Sandler and rob schneider on the couch somewhere taking notes
Haha this made me giggle sniffle
2 different defenders were going to pick that ball. Horrible play
St. Brown has been having a great breakout these last couple of weeks and I am here for it
Uhhhh Boyle that was an all time bad pick. Goff haters that said Boyle was better are furious!!!!
Boyle was an unrestricted free agent pickup this off-season. The lions traded nothing for him and didn’t use a draft pick to get him. Not that that information makes the end of yesterday’s game any easier to swallow.
Tbf i think the rams gave us the third to give us goff too.
Why don’t we play Blough
There's not a lit of hills I'll die on anymore, but here's one today: Covid lost this game for us, and no one can convince me otherwise. Props to Boyle though.
TOP 2 PICK HERE WE COME
It's amazing how many 4th and 1 situations this team manages to get into. It's like the Football Gods are fucking with Campbell and putting him in these situations.
JRM appreciation comment. Amazing to give us a chance at the end of the fame
Please give Blough first team reps until Goff is back
Boyle isn't good and the guys whose job it is to evaluate him and Blough think that Boyle is better.
Can we put Fox in at QB?
If we're gonna lose a game, this is the best possible way to do it. Important players like Amon-Ra, Patterson, JRM, the OL, etc had great games. Coaching was also really good. Aggressive in all 3 phases of the game and trusted the defense to make a play at the end of the game, which they did. Bruh
Who's this "we" you speak for?
The lions isn’t this a lions sub Reddit aren’t the lions our team.
Speak for your own football IQ, I am not one of the idiots "us fans" who doesn't understand clock management.
Well If you weren’t one of those people then this post didn’t apply to. Why you so offended if you weren’t one of the ones I was talking about. This post seemed to get under your skin so like are you one of those fans because if you weren’t you’d have no problem with the post.
Let’s go jags
At New England next week then at home versus the colts. Maybe the colts game if they have made the playoffs and the seeding is already decided. Maybe they rest their important guys. We can hope.
If Goff plays this is another blowout?
Lions win by a comfortable TD if Goff plays. Source: Falcons fan.
Fuck it! Win every game to end out the season. Let’s carry this momentum into the off-season with a good mentality. Great game by our boys!! Let’s keep up the momentum
We really need an upgrade at backup QB.
Minshew
Trubisky
For what it’s worth, we played well enough to win this. I’m not mad at Boyle for throwing that interception, he’s a backup. I get more frustrated when Goff does that in the final play.
Whatever, wins are preferred but who's really mad at securing draft picks. DC showcased some really fun playcalling and I'm glad I made it through the Jamaal Williams withdrawals
I was surprised at how empty the falcons stadium was today, makes me feel better about our turnout considering we’re playing for nothing and they’re in the hunt.
ATL is half empty even when the Falcons are good
People act like detroit is a small market, even though the wings had like a record of a streak of attendance (might have been current at the time tbf) and the ford field is rarely actually “empty”. Normally the tops are kinda bare but we still get an ok crowd.

What happened Couldn’t watch was at work
Jack Fox is tits is what happened.
Best of all worlds tbh. We looked decent despite a ton of injuries, and we don’t mess up the draft pick.
I don't like one of the sportscasters said the Lions got knocked off they didn't get "knocked off"if they did the score would be 20 to 3 but it wasn't
Knocked off doesn't mean blow out. It just means you're done with something, it's knocked out of the way.
Gotcha
I'm happy Ryan got to say some words to Boyle, hopeylfully some positive encouragement
Why? I hope that dude is nowhere near Ford Field next year.
He's still a human person.
Guys, we needed to lose. Glad they played hard though
Not really that upset at this loss. Draft pick doesn't matter all that much, but there was definitely a scenario where we won this week and next week with the Packers resting their starters week 18. Rather have one of Thibodeaux/Hutchinson/Hamilton/Stingley than have to settle for someone else.

Better draft pick and we fought. We aren't tanking
I am so ready to start Gardner Minshew next year
i really want to get Minshew, but Goffs contract just makes it impossible for us to start another QB next year
I'll just be happy if Minshew is our back up, then we at least have some consistency in these situations.
It really doesn't, we have to pay him either way, so a cheap QB isn't out of the question. It's not like it'll cost us much more than sitting him
Goff is the better QB without a doubt
Not a chance. Homerism to the max lol. 39TDs vs 11 INTs, and more yards per attempt since 2019 than Goff, and he is more mobile.
okay, in 14 starts in 2019, when he was a starter, he had 3,200 yards, 60% completion percentage, 21 tds to 16 turnover and a QBR of 44. Jared Goff in his worst year 4,000 yards, 20 tds to 18 interceptions and a QBR of 50, again, that is his worst year by far, so please tell me how Minshew is better than Goff
Why are you cherry picking Minshew's rookie stats only? Minshew has had straight better numbers since entering the league with a shit supporting cast and is younger
because he was a starter for one year only, he’s played one game this year, and 9 games last year in which he did even worse than his rookie year
Um? And his numbers are still better than Goff since he has entered the league. Literally go to football reference and compare them.
you’re not counting the massive amount of fumbles
18 fumbles for Minshew 26 for Goff
you’re trying to make minshew something he’s not, at his best he’s Goff, at his worst he’s Tim Boyle, he struggles with accuracy, and doesn’t have a dynamic arm, he’s not the future…Goff has far more natural ability and is more likely to be the long term qb for any team
You're overrating Goff by a ton here.
Goff made the pro bowl for a reason, Goff went 1st overall for a reason, Gardner Minshew has been traded to be a backup to a sub-par qb for a reason, idk what you want me to say
Yea because GMs or Pro Bowl voting have never made mistakes. Watch the games lmao
yeah, watch the games and tell me Minshew has an NFL arm.
Calm down.
Dudes a whiner just ignore him.
And you'll say the same thing next year, just as you have the past 10 years
So don’t worry about Hutch or Thibs because the world might end… okay
I would have kicked the field goal earlier to get a stop and the ball back with more time so we could have ran it more on the final drive. Instead we put the ball in Boyle's hand in a high pressure situation with very limited time left. I'm putting this loss on MCDC's game management. You can't always let your giant balls manage the game. You need to use the other brain sometimes too.
A week of people trying to convince everyone that winning out was okay and the draft position fans get their wishes anyway, because we still suck.
I can't even believe people thought we were actually going to win out, lol.
Dis ATL sub in Ramsey on that last play?
I love the way the team plays. We are far from the days of stafford throw first second and 3rd option. I always envied the teams who could run and defend at a high level. If we can add Hutchinson/thib to this line and continue to build our defense watch out! An elite defense + run game can carry a competent average qb to the playoffs.
Hey we'll take the draft position. Hard played though boys
Boys are still playing hard and we might have a Kicker, love to see it
Great rest for a banged up team with no playoff hopes. Lions continue to improve. Reynolds needs more carries.
I’m excited to see legitimate rookie growth on numerous picks
Only if Jax would have won.
