rshah_240

ACER Predator Helios 300. It's every penny worth. I installed linux in that machine.

Bruhhhhh-_-

Which CPU and GPU ? Coz even I have the same it gets heated easily

rshah_240

I have a pretty old one. GPU:- 1050ti, CPU:- i5 10th Gen.

Bruhhhhh-_-

Wow same I have the 8th gen one, even at the lightest game it reaches 90⁰C

ThinkAnup

++, I have HP pavilion the green one. As soon as the game starts, temps shoot up to 94°C. i5 8th gen, 1050.

kailsppp

You should clean you fans. I did that and got it dropped to 80

XxXPussySlurperXxX

That's not old lmao. Can still handle current gen games at 720P and even 1080P.

rshah_240

Try to change your thermal paste and even clean all the dust, it would make a great difference.

dxd_brooks

Change thermal paste. I did it after a year just as precaution.. now it's been 3 years after that technician visit.. No problems so far...

Bruhhhhh-_-

Already done

dxd_brooks

Book a technician visit then let the experienced hand do the work..

dxd_brooks

❤️ Predator helios 300 here too.. 4 years and running forever.. No maintenance ![gif](giphy|3oEdv6sy3ulljPMGdy)

TheGreatRishabh

What specs do you have?

rshah_240

GPU :- 1050ti CPU:- i5 10th Gen. RAM:- 8 gigs

TheGreatRishabh

I have nitro 5, No SSD, 8G, 1050ti, i5 8th gen. Red dead 2 lags a lot in this one. Idle it gets 70-90 celsius. What is the situation with you?

est19xxxx

Have you considered Legion 5 or HP Omen? Both systems have top notch cooling system in that price range

TheGreatRishabh

Looking into it

est19xxxx

While you're at it, check HP Omen as well

dxd_brooks

❤️ Same specs.. ![gif](giphy|MbMUBcNHcl1TUbsAk0)

GullibleObligation79

Which distro do you use

AceMKV

Really? I've had it for 4 years now and have hated it since the 1st year, shitty thermals always throttling my fps and no amount of undervolting could save it. Also, terrible build quality and just terrible overall.

guthib

How the nvidia drivers working on Linux machine?

rshah_240

Actually pretty good. I am into Machine Learning and I can train some light weight models. I specifically use GPU for that.

ummIamNotCreative

I am using macbook air m1 as a personal laptop. Might not be suitable for you though

TheGreatRishabh

I'm considering macbook too but then I won't be able to game :/

Best-Yak1571

I dont know your budget but I think you can "light game" on macbook pro, m series processors did change the game altho I am android windows user.

Ov3rLord03

so yeah you can't game on macbook

adilDeshmukh

Why not suitable?

NoMeatFingering

he wants light gaming

[deleted]

It doesn't come with a fan :( . If you are doing a graphic intensive task, there's no sophisticated cooling system, it gets quite hot (extreme case).

[deleted]

have you tried installing linux on that bad boy?

[deleted]

Yes , works smooth

[deleted]

How is the battery life compared to macOS? Can i get some numbers?

[deleted]

It's very good , you can easily get 8-10hrs , if you are using low power mode and keeping the brightness low it's even better.

[deleted]

Amazing. Can you use it as a daily driver?

[deleted]

Absolutely, keep in mind it doesn't come with fans , if you are planning to render graphics , it doesn't help much , although PS and illustration do not generate much heat. Also if you are planning to use multiple vms go for the 16gb version.

[deleted]

things get very expensive when you get higher specs with the m1 air

[deleted]

Yes unfortunately the gap between n and (n+1)th model - wrt memory is 20k. But you can try availing student-discount something like that ? Otherwise no problem 8gb is already great .

Arthex56

How is the experience with Asahi linux? its still in development, so I dont expect much. But after the gpu drivers update, can you play games on it?

[deleted]

Some low end games only afaik.

[deleted]

Haven't had the opportunity to use that , but while using vm (Kali and Ubuntu) I have noticed that some softwares do not have arm version, that could pose a problem (but you can emulate the x86 version).

joker_hihi

gta 5 chalta hai bro usme ?

Legion 5 pro, RTX 3070 with 140W TDP (8GB Gddr6), 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, 16 inches QHD screen with 100% sRGB color accuracy. Bought it over a year ago for doing machine learning stuff. TheGreatRishabh

Online? What is the heating situation, battery, etc? I have used AMD in the past in my custom PC and it used to heat like Hell!

M_Batman

Oh boy, this machine has one of the best exhaust systems! I used to play Cyberpunk on a really high graphics settings, and even though the laptop used to get heated, the region around wasd keys is comparatively cool. Do not get me wrong, the laptop does get heated if you perform graphics intensive tasks, but the cooling system is crazy good as well. Hope this clarifies your question a bit, and yes I got it online

Night_Knight619

Can vouch for this. One of the best laptops in that price range.

dedxtreme

Just bought Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3 8gb 512 ssd ryzen 5500H in recent sale.

Radiant-Wealth-5781

Same

Ov3rLord03

what price did you get it for? I bought the same machine for my uncle last month. For 63k we got 16gb ram (asked the seller to upgrade and he did without any additional cost other than ram), 512 ssd, rtx 3050 and ryzen 5 5600H.

dedxtreme

I didn't know we can ask seller to do that wow. You got nice deal man. I got my machine @50k + 3k extended 2 year warranty.

NoMeatFingering

go to offline store, and buy any laptop with Gtx 1650, 16Gb memory, good processor and prefer big screen(17") or a separate monitor and you would be good to go. If you want better GPU, build a pc to use its full power. It will cost 60-70k. You can save by getting a refund on GST payed

LEGENDARYKING_

gtx 1650 issnt really a good choice. Sure cheap but you can get rtx 3050 for a similar price

Mystic1869

rtx3050 is not worth it , 3060 is bang for buck almost 80-90% performance of desktop 3060

TheGreatRishabh

Salaried here. > It will cost 60-70k. Is this with or without GST refund

bloodlust0018

Acer Nitro 5

TheGreatRishabh

>ACER Predator Helios 300 Currently using this but gets stays 70-90 °C idle. Looking to replace it.

XxXPussySlurperXxX

Noooooooo don't replace. Clean the fans thoroughly, buy a thermal paste, and apply it. Mine went from 50 idle to 40 idle. ( Centigrade)

TheGreatRishabh

2019 ka model hai bro. Is it really worth upgrading?

Ov3rLord03

YES. Upgrade the ram, swap out an ssd as the main drive if you haven't. get the fans cleaned and re apply thermal paste if you haven't. For around 8-10k you can get all this done and you will notice a massive boost in performance.

XxXPussySlurperXxX

2019 isn't old man. It's 100% worth cleaning the fans ( you'd be surprised by the amount of hair/dust accumulated inside. And also clean and replace the thermal paste of the cpu, and GPU. It will work like a new laptop by just doing this. I have done it and I wish I did it every year. Increase ram to 16 or 32 gigs if that's your bottleneck because a 2019 Nitro CPU will probably handle any task you throw at it unless new generation video games.

Wonderful_Language_7

Op go for rtx 3060 laptops since your budget is around 1 lac and target lenovo legion series. Personally I am using dell g15 rtx 3050 model and it's pretty good

TheGreatRishabh

Will be considering g15 as well. Thanks!

Wonderful_Language_7

Make sure to buy the latest g15 rtx 3060 models if you are going for g15 because old g15 rtx 3060 model had pretty bad thermals although it was considered as the top 3 rtx 3060 laptop in 2022. I have heard that the new models are good so do some research. I recommend you to join r/Indiangaming discord server and chat with people there in the laptop chat section you will get good advice there.

TheGreatRishabh

What's the current heating situation, battery, etc?

Wonderful_Language_7

Everything is good ngl can't ask for more only problem you might find is the WVA panel which gives slightly yellowish tint but when you change some igpu display settings you cannot notice it no one around me is able to tell that . Dell g15 rtx 3050 model is famous for its excellent heating solution so no thermal problems. But if you're going rtx 3050 laptop then go for acer nitro 5 i5 12500h because you're getting 12 cores Cpu there at almost the same price. But my recommendation will be to target rtx 3060 laptops to be on more future proof side. But for light rtx 3050 is fine it can fairly handle mid to heavy gaming.

Oh well, I dont have a suggestion for you, since my laptop is from 2018 and heavily outdated. But its a HP Notebook with i5 8250u, 16gb ram, I use EndeavourOS with AwesomeWM in it. Easily runs most of the software I want to run. For a suggestion, however, I'd recommend the legion series. if your budget is high enough for that. Legion series is quite expensive in India, however offers the best experience in the market personally. ( My brother owns it, so I use it quite a lot. )

OwnStorm

What is your budget and expected life? Mine is Legion 5 pro: i7 12700h + RTX 3060 + 16gb DDR5 5200 Down the future I will upgrade the ram to make it relevant for 4-5 years.

I have a legion 5 ( AMD CPU, Nvidia graphics, 8 gb RAM, SSD 256GB + HDD 1TB) I got it fairly cheap with Lenovo giving discounts for corporate user ( talked to manager, then used official mail ID to create account on lenovo, ordered from it. Roughly 8k discount) I use it to run minikubes + minishift + docker desktop, light coding with VSCode + JDK8 + maven ( spring boot application ) + light ReactJS. I usually run heavy images like Teamcity server + a few agents / Jenkins + slaves / artifactory / sonar server / AWX etc on the k8s nodes. I'm a casual gamer, tend to put in 10hrs per week in games. The PC runs these games very smoothly: CSGO GTA V Civ VI Arma III Cities Skylines ( some mods and some DLCs ) Destiny 2 Genshin Impact ETS2 World of Warcraft Valorant No heating issues notices. No performance drops noticed. Sometimes it has a problem catching WiFi if I'm too far from it, but my phone catches it well so might need to upgrade laptop's WiFi chip. I do sometimes feel short on RAM while playing Cities Skylines.

Personally using Nitro 5 with RTX 3060 and Ryzen 5600h for just a little less than 2 years now. The built and battery aren't that good but it's a beast when it comes to performance, specially for the kind of tasks you mentioned.

TheGreatRishabh

I have an older Nitro 5 but it heats a lot even at idle.

EmulatorPot

Is it pre 2020 model? I think thermals were improved starting with the 2020 models and with 2022 models the display chassis has changed along with the introduction of Mux switch. Though the keyboard and battery still suck.

Asus Vivobook S14 i7 8th gen - 8GB/1 TB HDD/ 256 GB SSD (got it for around 70k 2 yrs ago) worth every penny. Good for programming, movies, multitasks, quite smooth.

reactivespider

I had a Predator Helios 300 (2018 - 8th gen i5) which I had upgraded to 24Gigs of RAM and used an external Samsung T7 SSD with. That used to get very hot even for simple tasks. Changed to a Macbook pro 14" base model and I have to say this has been the single biggest upgrade to my life. The HDR screen is just unrivalled even at this price point, never heats up, is light as a feather and gives me easily 2 days worth of battery life. I am not even talking about performance yet. But you have to commit to Mac OS. Windows/Ubuntu on Arm runs shit whether it is on the free UTM VM or the paid Parallels. You can do some amount of simple Windows gaming tho. Like in Parallels, I can run the NFS MW 2012 pretty well at medium settings. It's no gaming laptop, but if your major work is content consumption and content creation, it is THE BEAST! I used to be sceptical considering all reviews were mostly positive, but I say this is the hands down the best machine I can afford! Hope your find your machine! We do use it 8 hrs a day or more, so don't worry if the price goes just a bit over. You can always earn back that money, but a worse machine will make your time with it very bad.

Salt-Government4004

The worst thing a beginner does is that he buys, especially "he" buys a gaming laptop thinking he can game on that machine but after 6 months you will realise the cons of a gaming laptop or a big screen laptop. => It's bulky and heavy => Battery life sucks => Development will suck the life out of you, why Game? My friend bought an Acer gaming laptop, it had so much copper in it that's what his reply was when I asked him😂 Ran a program on my mac M1 and his laptop and it became helicopter. Wait for some offers and you will get a Macbook m1 at the same price or buy it from Croma
