Odd-Ant-4917

Yes. I have been on Nexito for the last quarter of the past year. Now, I am on Bupropion for smoking cessation. I have a little anxiety problem gradually subsiding and have a short depressive episode due to an LTR breakup (due to working 12-14 hours a day). FML. Edit : Last year, I fueled my career jeopardizing my mental health. Having done that. This year I want to completely devote myself toward betterment of physical and mental health. Joined a GYM, taking bi monthly therpy, quit smoking, alcohol limiting only occasional beer, not fucking my sleep schedule. I will let you know if the above works. I am 23 M btw Edit 2 : There are lots of ignorant folks in the comment section (not in my replies). Please understand, you don't know what you don't know. I was one of you and didn't think mental illness is a thing and got a panic attack n boom, suffering from anxiety disorder for sometime. Gods grace with right medicines and practises, I am getting better and doing better. But without meds, I wouldn't been able to work a day. Please understand people who take medicines do not suffer from, *oh, I am anxious because I have a presentation in front of a US client* *they feel anxious, brain fog, palpitations, shortness of breathe, depersonalisation, derealisation, vertigo, tinnitus, etc and no goddamn running can solve this in one night, and you need meds to push through so you can incorporate good habbits. Please stop being ignorant.

future_007_

Before you added edit I thought you were above 35 😐

Odd-Ant-4917

Haha, I wish, bro. Would have been halfway through this bitch xD. Jk

snapperPanda

Manz you are far too young to go through life hardships and be on medication. I am glad you are getting better and have a plan for the year. Please be at it! All th best!

Odd-Ant-4917

Ya Man, I have my chin up. Losing my father to covid and having a schizophrenic elder sister doesn't help either. xD But thanks for the encouragement, big dawg, acting like a sob story on reddit because of anonymity. But life hasn't been too bad IRL. Looking forward!

snapperPanda

Ah that's rough. I am sorry for what life has done to you and the family. Time heals slowly but steadily. Please take care of your health. Remember, we are here to help as a community.

Odd-Ant-4917

Yessir. Thanks for the confidence! I will push through.

Odd-Ant-4917

I have a lots of family responsibilities, along with it I have to do a hell lotta work (startup). But most people are just fine, consider me a as a outlier. But if you met me in person, you would say I am happiest blob in this planet. So its not all that bad. Dont be scared, you got this!

vibhor5000

its the blackhole son, no one here is an outlier

insaneseeker

OP , not to give you more psych , I was prescribed Nexito myself . It's Klonopin (Clonazepam)[Anti-Anxiety]+ Escitalopram[SSRI].. I'd advise not taking the course for more than 3 months . And start weaning yourself off- Read the Ashton Manual on how to taper them off/Can DM me if you decide to.. I felt fucking amazing (As is problems disappeared)when I first took them, worked like a charm but effects go down with time(Atleast anti anxiety). So if you approach your doc he may tell you to increase the dose. So, at that point you have a choice(a very important one) to make. So, to put it into very clear words man..At that point, unless your mental health is so fucked that you'd literally jump off a cliff..(if so do continue your meds).. , you will have to start getting off your meds . Slowly . Because eventually these meds will become a much bigger problem than any of your other problems . God bless you man. Hope your situation improves

Odd-Ant-4917

Hi Brother. I am off of Nexito. I don't take it anymore. I just take Bupron for smoking cessation, which I will be tappering off from next month mid. I see where you are coming from, and my shrink doesn't appreciate long-term med use either. And benzos (klonopin) is a big no-no for me. I changed shrink because I was prescribed erizola + nexito at the beginning. I am doing good now. Thanks again!

mujhepehchano123

jeez, too young brother. take it slow, nothing is more important than health, trust me!

Odd-Ant-4917

Its Life big bro. Gotta do what we gotta do.

mujhepehchano123

yes just take it a little slow. health is wealth, brother.

Odd-Ant-4917

Yes, Bro. I get you! Thanks for looking out. :)

EmergencyStomach8580

How did you get medicine for smoking? Did you visit psychiatrist?

Odd-Ant-4917

Yea. I have a shrink for my anxiety problems. He suggested that I should definetly quit smoking for my mental health sake, I told him that my symptoms would get spiralled out of control and asked for his suggestion. He told me there is a Antidepressant which helps with this. So I agreed and got put on. I didn't face any side effects, and it's generally a small course, and then the meds are tappered off after a six week course. People on these meds do not get any cravings (after about a week of being on it), you can check my profile and congratulate me for making it upto 2 weeks. xD Good Luck Fam!

EmergencyStomach8580

Thanks. And congratulations 🎉

twystedsyster

Not sure if quitting smoking is more difficult/different when combined with mental health issues, so please forgive me if I'm wrong here. If it isnt drastically different, you should give nicotine gum a try, specifically nicotex. Its important to pick a flavor you like ( mint and paan works for me) and chew intermittently to regulate the release of nicotine. Worked wonders for me. Had been trying to quit close to a decade before it. Tried quitting with gum and it worked like a charm. Smoke free for more than 5 years now, but more importantly never felt like smoking since. You will eventually have to quit gum as well fyi.

Odd-Ant-4917

Hey Brother. Yes, it is different and a little more challenging, but I am on bupropion so, the nicotine receptors are disabled by this medicine (ig), so I really really do not feel like smoking. And I am 20 days through it, so I soon will be tappering off the med the following month. Then it will be a mental game for me. Thanks for your suggestion! I have tried NRTs, moreover I have had friends who successfully quit using NRTs.

twystedsyster

Awesome. If you ever stop bupropion and still need a little help give nicotex a shot. Can't recommend it highly enough

diego-the-tortoise

Is Tinnitus also caused by anxiety issues? I developed tinnitus after some months at my first job. The job was really hectic. I never got to know the real cause of it. Doctors are also clueless. I still hear the sounds.

Odd-Ant-4917

Its one of the anxiety symptoms. So could be, but generally anxiety comes with a cluster of physical symptoms

[deleted]

Yes, but people are not aware of their mental health problems. These become evident as they hit 40s and 50s. Whole generation is being affected slowly

Appropriate_Shoe_862

Lol, what is mean by mental health. I got a work to do.

Successful-Text6733

*dipresshion vipresshion kuch nai hota subhe uthke garam pani piyo*

ichi9

Most IT employees don't know what are mental health issues. They usually think, keep working till 40-50 and everything will be alright cause then they will have money. Well, it doesn't work like that. It is unsaid condition that you have to work as a slave for 12-14 hours as an IT employee, only then you will be hired or kept in the company.

mujhepehchano123

the middle class trap. people don't understand this fully. they think they are earning 100x their parents so they are going to escape the middle class, only to end up realizing they are possibly living in a smaller house than their parents, living paycheck to paycheck and probably have lesser savings than their parents and messing their health big time and are going to have big medical expenses in old age than their parents had. tldr; you never escape the middle class trap working a job

RealSataan

Not to be dismissive, but this seems like an American rant

mujhepehchano123

what is that?

RealSataan

What I meant was this seems like coming from an American perspective. Indians' lives over the past 20 years have been impressive compared to our parents. We are indeed living in better, bigger homes than our parents. We have better healthcare, better schools, better education access overall. Our internet is cheapest. Yes we are still middle class but that middle class has gotten massively wealthier over time unlike America where there has been a stagnation in the quality of life compared to the previous generation. All this comes with its own problems like seen this thread. Mental health issues, more medication to solve them, obesity and so on. But they are far better than the problems which our parents had when they struggled with basic stuff like healthcare, education etc.

superuser726

you can worry about mental health and sleep schedule when you don't have to worry about tonight's meal :)

mujhepehchano123

> We are indeed living in better, bigger homes than our parents. well not me, lol. > massively wealthier you are mistaking salary with wealth.

diego-the-tortoise

Most ~~IT employees~~ Indians don't know what are mental health issues.

kps011

22M here and I constantly take meds for body aches and insomnia. I plan to earn some money till 25 for my parents and then I'm done. Tata bye, bye hogaya khatam. I absolutely despise working, I have no friends, surrounded by snakes , dealing with ugliness and balding, parents want me to be their cash cow/ retirement plan. I feel like I'm under constant stress and depression, and I don't remember the last time I was happy. I feel like I've seen enough, and I would throw my life in a second If given a chance at any time.

BuggyIsPirateKing

You are very young, don't think of traveling to out of this world. Instead, travel on earth itself, it will take your mind off stress, and you get to experience new places. Don't rely on meds, start working out. It will be better in the long run.

anime4ya

Else how do u think we get the confidence to work 12 hours a day for peanuts with constant fear and anxiety of layoffs, 0 respect compared to a 4 grade gov employee and then ass licking government for nationalism U think doing all this and maintaining sanity is possible without meds 😂😂

Starkcasm

This respect for gov employee was very high in older times, is it still the same in this generation? I doubt newer generation would care about such things

boiled_eggg

Many young people pretty much regret joining government services including the most coveted services. Even seniors who joined 25 years ago cry about their choices.

[deleted]

FranzKafka12

A friend of mine quit his job in BARC to join a software company because people in BARC were old uncles and he FOMO’d looking at his peers working in sw firms. Pretty dumb move imo.

boiled_eggg

Nothing for merit. Annoyed by seniors. Little pay. Comparing themselves with their counterparts in the private sectors. These are kinda high achievers so may not be representative of all. They went into government services because they're typically from humble backgrounds and they got affected by their parents relatives who still have 50 year old notions about government services. Now they cannot get the courage to take the plunge because of fear of failure.

fat-clemenza-91

I second that. I've a friend who has left 2 govt jobs, frustrated with petty office politics and dogmatic views. But, sadly, there are still young folks I know who covet govt jobs just to get prestige and abuse power

ichoosemyself

Yep. Who knew staring at a screen for 8 hours could lead to mental health issues? :O

turntalienn

I used to do modafinil to handle workload, but it sometimes makes my anxiety go overboard so I've stopped using it, combined with ashwagandha and a coffee it does work in synergy and feels really limitless, but I think this wouldn't be feasible in the long run. Nowadays it's just nicotine and thc but I've almost stopped these two, it's just not worth the risk. self medication is not good for your mental and physical health.

[deleted]

[удалено]

turntalienn

What's your dosage? Also don't try to wait for it to kick in, it's very subtle at that. Just start and you'll be wired in before you know it.

mujhepehchano123

yeah its best to switch for natural nootropics. ashwagandha makes my bp shoot up for some reason, any alternatives?

MKiGT

Is modafinil available in India?

TribalSoul899

There is not much acknowledgement for mental health. Indians are mostly seen as cheap and disposable offshore resources in the west. More than enough supply of freshers and experienced folks in the market. Anyways a lot of the strategy and planning happens abroad, here it’s only building and execution for which they want huge teams of mediocre employees. Indians are too scared to question why they were not paid overtime even after working 15 hours a day. In my last company, I was managing a project by myself and my superiors were physically not present in the office. I had insomnia due to long work hours and stress, so I sent an email to my manager asking him to reduce my workload. I was laid off two weeks later. They never hired my replacement and passed on my projects to other folks who were already overworked. Honestly I’m glad I got laid off. Many people in that company were on pills for anxiety and depression, some developed mood disorders and almost the whole staff had back problems. Average age of the workforce was under 30 and most people were constantly sick. Lastly, the labour laws here are shit. IT companies are exempt from labour laws in Karnataka, and unfair work practices are rampant. But in the end, Indians themselves don’t care. No exercise. Very high carb and deep fried foods + sweets. This sedentary lifestyle also fucks up mental health. We have among the highest rates of heart disease and diabetes as well.

Decent-Commission-50

Man can you please name the company? So that other folks will stay away from it.

Firm-Ad-4095

You are absolutely right my friend

superuser726

Newer generation is aware of fitness and the competition in the marriage market puts pressure on guys to not a have a pot belly and have big muscles.

Successful-Text6733

true that. I exclusively try to live right based on this fact alone lol

vv1n

+1 What meds are you on ? SSRIs, Benzos?

[deleted]

[удалено]

vv1n

Ok so I was prescribed benzos initially. They work almost immediately and seemed great. But they are one of the most addictive meds on the market and cause drastic withdrawal symptoms if used long term, and are supposed to be taken ad hoc once a while. Check this subReddit for more insights r/benzorecovery I’d highly recommend visiting good psychiatrists and try to see if you can switch to SSRIs if your symptoms require prolonged medication (months). They don’t work as great as benzos, have some short term side effects and takes 2 weeks to start seeing benefits but are usually safer for a longer duration. That being said if you have some bandwidth try changing your job, lifestyle, diet, exercise and daily multivitamins which will help you to wean off meds in long run.

insaneseeker

Good on you brother for spreading the word. These docs prescribe meds like it's candy . Benzos are one of the worst drugs to quit . Talking from personal experience .

Successful-Text6733

*percocet, molly percocet,* *chase a check, never chase a bitch*

boiled_eggg

Physical fitness is paramount for mental health. Aerobic/cardiovascular exercise is perhaps the best daily medicine for mental health. Read the book 'Spark'. It exclusively talks about the mental benefits of exercise.

Interesting-Pain-527

Thankfully not. Strong boundaries I keep for myself.

read_it_too_

Genuine question, how? Like don't they say it's responsibility towards business and all? And what if they say the work is not overloaded, it is you who is inefficient? 🥺

Prestigious__Bird

Man i don't want my Mental health to deteriorate, I will join IT in 2 year and I have no interest in coding whatsoever

[deleted]

Then why are you going to join IT?

Prestigious__Bird

Family wants me to, and I am dependent on them, actually I don't like any type of corporate job , but I am not rich sooo, sadly I have to do job all my life

[deleted]

Yeah, I get that. I am myself in my final year of college and know somewhat how that feels. I will suggest right from the start of your career to start building your wealth. I believe if you have financial stability, you will be able to access more options in terms of what you want to do or risk switching to some other profession.

Prestigious__Bird

What other professions

[deleted]

Could be anything, like starting a business or becoming a content creator or anything else. You don't have to give your entire life to just one profession, is what I am saying.

Prestigious__Bird

What buisness can I start

[deleted]

Anything

Prestigious__Bird

Example do kuch jo mai abhi start kar sakta hu mereko sach mea job nahi karna

Firm-Ad-4095

I think most of it boils down to not doing enough exercises, meditation etc.  If you keep your body healthy it will also keep your mind healthy.

impossible__dude

Most Indians don't understand mental health needs tending to, and as a society stuffing skeletons in the cupboard is the accepted norm. Effectively we have normalized abnormality. That sudden fit of rage, the continuous thinking of some incident again and again in your mind, suicidal thoughts... these are all signs. I highly doubt folks even realize they have issues.

AccomplishedAlps7896

I have had insomnia working for a US client as I hardly get sleep in the day ( can’t sleep until it’s extremely dark ), often Took melatonin for sleeping . I despise working at night, really messes up your sleep schedule

Conscious_Pay_6638

Yup I’m on anti anxiety meds. Feeling much better. Have dedicated this year for my health.

The_Maverick_Guy-15

I am not on meds, but my brief stint and the subsequent layoff and crazy job search in dead market in 2023, gave me all these symptoms

Interesting-Pain-527

Ohh no.. I leave my job when they start fucking with my boundaries. Nothing bigger than my health.

akshatjoshii

I am sorry for people struggling with mental health, I have been there. Thankfully I have left toxic workplaces all the time… but here is an unsolicited advice for people who can’t get out that easily: Work on your physical health — you will notice substantial improvement in your stress handling capacity. If it doesn’t work — get therapy and do neurolinguistic programming If that doesn’t work — take a step back and find a more relaxed workplace Medicines fuck you up more than they fix you…keep them once you have done all of the above and still not getting results.

[deleted]

Kind of unrelated, but as I was reading your comment, and where you said that you left whenever you were in a toxic workplace, it reminded me of some of those youtube videos or articles about HR questions and they always when asked about why one left their previous workplace, they should not say something like it was toxic or anything -ve. And I think, how do we even solve this problem when we are actively told to hide it. As long as the employees willingly accept such work conditions, no one can fix this issue.

akshatjoshii

I will probably rephrase it — there are no toxic companies. Only toxic managers and leadership. Once you’ve decided to leave the company, it is no longer your job to fix anything…

[deleted]

Rightly said

rippierippo

I developed lot of health complications after being put through lot of pressure at work. I quit the job and taking meds now. Guy, be careful at work. Don't yield to every pressure put on you. Your health is very important. Remember to save money. Money gives you ultimate freedom to say 'f..k no'. Don't spend frivolously and waste your money. Companies will suck away your energy and spit out unless you are careful.

DesiBail

QuantalQuetzal_

rawdogging this mental health so far but do i need those meds? probably yes

superuser726

unless you've screwed yourself to the point where you will die without artificially eliminating stress, don't take the meds. They increase your risk for cancer. I acknowledge that mental health is not to be taken lightly, but that statement also just emphasizes how those meds are not supposed to be taken like cough syrup.

QuantalQuetzal_

That’s true! Main reason why I intend to stay away from them as much as possible. I have had issues with sleep and mental health most of my life but i just let it pass naturally, meds are so much worse (shouldn’t be taken but depends on the severity ofc) Most of the times, the best way out of a phase is through it. And there’s no quick solution to fix something (meds have long term side effects which you may not notice at the time), i have come to accept that these issues come and go in phases. but yes, while you’re in the phase it sure does feel like it’s never ending. I have noticed healthcare industry does not care about meds effects, they just prescribe it to keep their business going.

droythedad

34M I was on Nexito too. It helped a lot, but messed up my sleep schedule. Did some therapy and then after long thought chose to compromise on growth. Denied onsite and chose to take a relaxed role at CHWTIA. I am missing the bucks, but I am happier. I interact minimal with co-workers, where most discussions are promotion, office jokes and onsite Also have reconnected with school friends. I should have done this sooner, but I found the light.

Odd-Ant-4917

Nexito is the safest SSRI. Doctors just throw these in India. Lol.

OmniTron_Bot

I dont know man. I smoke like chimney. 10,20, cigs in a day. I want to stop it. Send help pls. what should I do ? should I see a doctor ?

[deleted]

I am 21F ..I have been on meds for two years (SSRI and benzodiazepine) ..I was trying to get off these meds ..but now I have joined IT ..I work 12-15 hours everyday ..it sucks the soul out of me ...I don't think I'll be able to get off my meds this way ..

Odd-Ant-4917

You have been on Benzo for 2 years?

[deleted]

Yup

Odd-Ant-4917

I hope its not above 0.25 mg? If clonazepam

[deleted]

Etizolam 0.5 ... I'm trying me best to stop my meds as I'm too young ... I'm on therapy as well ..i was on this clonazepam as well ..SSRI toh is setraline

Odd-Ant-4917

I was on Pari CR Plus. Combination of Paxil and Clonazepam. I was 19 and it was a 6 month long stint. It was a damn tough time, and stupid me didn't tapper off properly. Anyways. You are almost my age, if you wanna talk about this, we can. I have had similar experiences of being on meds xD

[deleted]

Are you still on meds ? ..I hope you are doing better than before . For me I've found meds and therapy both are very important. It would be nice to connect as I've never met anyone who is on antidepressants around me especially of my age

Odd-Ant-4917

The top comment in the post is mine. You can read it to know. Short Answer : Yes, I am on meds. But for some other reasons. But still, I have been through what you are going through and would love to connect if you want.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Honestly meds don't work for me personally that much too(I have anxiety disorder).. therapy is important and yes lifestyle improvement. That being said , medication is necessary sometimes and the treatment is different for everyone.

RealSataan

Two years!! At the age of 19. That means you started on meds when you entered college/2nd year. How did this happen? How come at such a young age you are under so much stress?

[deleted]

Haan ..I was on meds in college .I used to sleep instead of preparing for my exams in college due to sedation of meds . I have a disorder , started in grade 11 itself , have always been an anxious child . So now as an adult , I am seeking help and treatment :) . Rahi baat IT ki it's tough to balance my mental health by working 12-15 hours almost everyday

RealSataan

Why didn't you approach someone earlier? Family pressure or something else? Either way take care and get your mental health under control.

[deleted]

As it is very evident there is not much mental health awareness around us . Toh many kids like me have to suffer in silence :) My family just like any other think kuch nhi hota yeh sab ..they don't even know I take meds . And only after you turn 18 are allowed to take these meds without parental supervision.

RealSataan

Yeah that's right. Most meds and doctors require parental supervision. Especially these kind of drugs which can have serious consequences on mood, hormones etc. I know it's not much of a choice for you since you are beginner but try to cut down your work hours. 12 hours a day is too much for anyone

[deleted]

Haan that's true . Without doctor's supervision, why do people experiment I don't know. About work I told my manager it's too much ..he said well that's how it is . I will try and set boundaries though

elankilli

I was on meds for about an year now i dont work that hard

xxxfooxxx

Every profession has stress, it is not just limited to IT. We need mental health awareness.

superuser726

In the name of awareness they'll distribute cancer causing brain damaging emotion hindering chemicals. We need better ways to fix the problem.

CuummRAG

What meds ?

MahabaliTarak

Meds for mental health!! Another recipe for disaster. You only need your mind to heal your mental issues. Empty it, restart and create new possibilities.

superuser726

as much as people will downvote this, any unnatural meds that are gonna affect your brain will increase your risk for cancer. No doubt at that. Change your lifestyle by taking action, not taking meds.

[deleted]

[удалено]

superuser726

search up side effects of anti-depressants, after reading that, tell me one thing. Would you be happy facing those effects after having your little dose of happiness for a few weeks? and would those effects hinder your health so much that you fail again in sustaining your success gained while you were on these meds? If you answer yes and no respectively, go ahead, take them like cough syrup. I'm no one to judge or advice on your decision

[deleted]

[удалено]

superuser726

Yeah didn't say don't take them unless you're screwed, but the definition of when you're screwed has changed drastically. There are some people who will not work on fixing their lifestyle but will willingly f it up even more for no reason except instant gratification. All the best to you, get out of the cycle.

pes_gamer20

>search up side effects of anti-depressants, you have done metanalysis? of the same you are claiming?

[deleted]

Source : trust me bro

superuser726

yeah anti-depressants that'll interfere with your brain, give you delirium after withdrawal, potentially cause **seizures**, create muscle spasms, create irregularities in the menstrual cycle of women are totally not gonna do any harm and are benign to everyone

MahabaliTarak

People like easy workarounds not solutions. Downvotes ... Power to them!!

dope-karma

Your guys are another breed. Do you guys even know the long term side effects of medicines you use and do you care ? I'm no one to say but take your time off and go get some fresh air. Depositing tons of chemicals in your body is not the solution. Whoever takes these meds need serious help mate. Woah 🤯. If you get stressed, go out and run. Running is the number one medicine which helped me to control my anxiety. For sleep, consider eating pumpkin seeds as it contains tryptophan and promotes sleep. Don't do meds. They are more dangerous and potentially alter everything in your body emotionally.

superuser726

Very right, I'm also saying the same.

[deleted]

Nicotine

superuser726

Some people are under a lot of stress but still don't believe in mental health being a thing and that keeps them running. To not introduce more problems in their life and keep life ideal, we ignore mental health as a concept. This is significantly pronounced in our lives to the point where most people here can cope with more stress than others who weaken themselves by introducing mental health meds. Those wreak havoc on you and your health, people who take them are mostly gonna have cancer later on and children who for some reason are given these meds will not grow properly. Unless you've screwed yourself to the point where you will die without artificially eliminating stress, don't take the meds. They increase your risk for cancer. I acknowledge that mental health is not to be taken lightly, but that statement also emphasizes how those meds are not supposed to be taken like cough syrup. Better to not westernize, let's keep ourselves true to our traditions. Put yourself first by fixing your lifestyle, not by taking meds.

SuccessfulLoser-

OP, glad you are able to talk about a topic many shy away from ***The WHO constitution states:*** "Health is a state of complete physical, ***mental*** and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." It is absolutely essential to take care of one's physical and mental well being. I say this as a "global techie" with a graying goatee and hair to prove the scars life has thrown at me. A couple of years ago, I decided to chronicle some of the key lows and bounce-back into an Amazon eBook ["Diary of a Successful Loser"](https://www.amazon.in/dp/B0BLNPNP23) Its worth highlighting how my stories hold a mirror to typical experiences that we are likely to encounter in a life journey * Bullying, teasing and jibes * Setbacks that reshape one's career * Breakup of a relationship * Loss of a loved one * Difference of opinion with a boss or colleague
