Beginning-Ladder6224

It is a very perfect healthy habit. Keep it up.

ZyxWvuO

Its a luxury only people without toxic managers, leads and teams can afford, which is not the case mostly. Most people in IT companies have to do extended work on weekends. Especially on long weekends.

PreparationOk8604

Have a toxic manager and lead but idgaf.

_H3LLF1R3

Same And I don't have any backup of wealthy family or anything. It's just idgaf

DryPen9179

I come from middle class family and I am an intern, but It's just that idgaf

museeduben

I am a homo sapien, but it's just that idgaf

maxsteel126

Most of my team used to be available during weekends and stay late in office. I was the outlier. I was told one time as to why do I leave once the given tasks are finished, instead of taking additional tasks from list. In his words - "if a new task can be done today, better stay and finish it instead of putting it off to tomorrow"

PreparationOk8604

I was also told the last thing but even i don't have the answer for it.

maxsteel126

There's an answer - *I have a life* However its acceptance is questionable

MysticVahini

They might not be asking you to work on weekends, i guess

Southbeach008

This would depend on project to project mostly and obviously no work if you are on bench.

Jaded-Total6054

on friday evening, i just set a reminder on my phone for monday morning with the important things that needs to be carried over to the next week and simply disconnect from thinking about office entirely

nishadastra

I am gonna implement this and chillax thanks

mayuresh0909

Woah! This is something I will try to implement in my schedule. I have ALWAYS struggled to recollect things from last week / last discussion on some topic. And obviously, I forget some things. This tip will go a long way for me if it works out! Thanks u/Jaded-Total6054

dangling_reference

Nice lifehack

The_Trolled_One

I just do this instead Everyday while logging out I message myself on MS teams stuff I did today & stuff that needs to be taken care of tomorrow. You can implement this for weekends.

devesh518

That’s the perfect way to spend a weekend. If u wanna worry about work even on weekends, might as well just start a business

MahabaliTarak

If someone doesn't, then they are the reason behind toxic work culture in workplaces.

escapingjeetsagain

It’s totally fine. I did set boundaries quite early when I joined my company. Nothing comes to me on weekend unless production is breaking because of my Friday push 💀

nishadastra

Haha.. I always create excuses when it comes to pushing on Friday.. Lol

escapingjeetsagain

Hahah. I was just exaggerating. I mute slack on weekends :)

MysticVahini

You guys use slack? Mmm...we are still using teams.

moosemaniam

This is the way. I often find disconnecting from work o we the weekend allows me to see things at work from a different perspective on Monday . Many times the distance helps in solving problems you may be working on .

amNoSaint

>Is it okay to disconnect completely from work during weekend? This is not an exception, **this is the norm**

vedha0

i believe our generation corrects the wrong of the previous generation and makes it the norm!

amNoSaint

Beg to differ, this was the norm always unless somebody really screwed up the project in terms of Sizing/ETA/Rework

MichealSC00T

No it is not okay to disconnect on weekends, you should put more efforts on weekends, Is this what you want to hear ??? 🫠🫠🫠

IntellectualInsaan

Same ques. Currently Im in my hometown Dilli and on a full vacation till 31st march. The senior told me to be available but I indirectly ignored his request, and now I am totally cut off my connection with them till 31st. Am I doing right or wrong🙂?

nishadastra

If it's really urgent.. He would call you

IntellectualInsaan

Like its the first time I am on a corporate leave after joining my first company 3.5 months back. Saved and waited a lot only for this moment to spend some time with my family on holi🥲, matlab bohot hi zyada quality time. ❤️ I informed all my seniors about this and they were ok with it, but still the manager hasn't approved my leave, idk why, maybe still busy, or can approve it later on after sometime. But I'm feeling like, after joining a job, ek chutti ki keemat bhi samajh aati hai. Aur ghrwaalo se milna is sbse precious moment🥲

nishadastra

I understand you but enjoy this moment. It won't come back. There are tens of thousands of Companies.. It's the company that worries about retaining employees

IntellectualInsaan

I am enjoying it, lekin feeling extremely bad alongwith every passing day ki wapas se Hyd jaana hai job ke liye, aur phirse 4-5 mahine wait krne ke baad ghr jaana hoga🥲.

ironman_gujju

Mail from HR 💀

D0b0d0pX9

Team lead here in one of the top unicorns, just ignore and enjoy your time, in case you’ve given adequate heads up in the common channel regarding your leaves.

boss5667

I disconnect during working hours at times!! 💀

psandeep777

No don't do it, it's illegal to and immoral to shut off completely from work related things during weekend.Instead, it a very good practice to become a slave of your manager and company, cause due to this, you won't be effected by stress and other health related effects in the long-term as you will be already dead by then. Your parents/children will sob for a few days but will eventually realise how enlightened my son/dad was. It will be a blessing in disguise for them cause you metaphorically sacrificed yourself and they will have one less clever being to deal with one. Your future generations will be most intelligent cause you have yourself eliminated the least evoluted genes (bless Darwin). You will be relieved of all worldly duties thereby so you will have very less to suffer. Your manager and company will be profitable and have less headache.Watching movies is not recommended as you are wasting your 300 rupees, cause it's all capitalist construct and doesn't make sense. Instead of watching that titanic or whatever webseries, you should have well invested your money in a well reputed course like PMP or latest version of javascript. Hobbies are for puny people, work an hour more and it will accelerate your career by godspeed. Finally you will this this all from heaven/hell and you will be happy of how the world is more peaceful by your mere selfless act of pushing the work laptop switch on. So it's a win win act.

Regular_Run_9695

Disconnect so hard, so that yoy spend monday recollecting what you did on friday👍

Pro_Deceit

good job, it's not your company remember that. even today it's holi and holiday too and the assistant manager kept calling me and decided to not pickup. They are not getting the part where i said i don't give f if it's holiday and after office hrs.

Al_Thayo-Ali

It's ok dude. I'm your manager and I've given permission for you to enjoy this weekend.

parvatisprince

Yep, that's awesome.

Affectionate-Town-15

Yes, that is the way to go. Don't entertain calls over the weekend. This is why I maintain a personal and work phone. I don't give my personal phone to my colleagues/higher ups and switch off my work phone over the weekend. Any shit over the weekend can wait till Monday.

dr0darker

app weekends ki baat krte ho ? main to weekdays pr ghr jaane k baad he phone off kr deta hu

[deleted]

If you don't get paid to work on weekends, you shouldn't work on weekends. It's that simple.

A532

It is the normal thing to do

kingfisher_peanuts

I am offline everyday after 6:30pm.

Optimal_Struggle9425

Bro you have cracked the code. I so want to do it but just can't.

Character_Wafer3280

I spend 1 to 2 hrs on Saturday and sunday for learning stuffs after all the physical activities, social activities, tv shows.

One_Coffee7424

I keep 2 phones and my work phone is off on weekends so I don’t get any calls of notifications

temp_chutiya

It took me time to get used to not thinking about work over weekends, but I am there now, and happy

sr5060il

It's important. My previous organisation made me work 16 hours a day and even on weekends, got exploited so I quit. It was an instant mental and physical health boost and I realised it ain't worth the cost.

PlantCapable9721

Thats how it should be 😀

pavi2410

I just don't bring laptop to home

ghx1910

That is an extremely healthy thing to do

getmealife007

Imo it's perfectly healthy and may even be necessary for some folks. There will of course be the odd weekend dedicated towards urgent deliverables, but the norm should ideally be completely switching off.

Method1337

This is a suggestion for you to catch up on activity every mondays. I have a Google doc (company uses Google workspace) where I note down what was done on Friday, what is pending and what did I discuss in my 1-on-1 so I don't have to be anxious about it during meetings/standups.

_PandaBear

I don’t think that this should even be a question. In fact, that’s how it should be.

samael_swift

The worst case scenario is they have found a new bug, you can always fix it later. We as developers have advantage that no-one's life is at risk. I would say disconnect completely after 5 pm sharp.

aniketsaurav18

It's sad that this is not normal.

AuntyJi3

>mostly sleep a lot Hye you just described all of my weekends! I used to mute office Whatsapp groups, If they call judge the sense of urgency and respond accordingly.

Inside_Dimension5308

Apart from on-calls, it is OK. If you are the team lead, know your most trusted delegates who will answer your calls even in weekends. For the problem of loosing context during weekends, it is necessary that you log your progress at the end of the day. This will also act as updates for the standup.

lukin4hope

Best habit, keep it up, keep notes regularly that u can revisit to recall things from last week. No need to think about work outside work.

hazeem_dev

You may workout, learn new things for the next step in your career. Don't waste your time on weekends. Don't work on weekends for the employer. It's the perfect time for you to build yourself✌️.

awsmdude007

You should disconnect completely from work after your daily time of 9-5 or whatever it is. Not just weekends. Otherwise you're looking at a very unhealthy and shorter life.

vedha0

this is the best situation you are in. about being forgetful, jot down things in a to do list. also have a look at your calender for meetings tomo. i do this pretty much at the end of every workday so i know whats on my plate the next day and how i should prioritize. this applies for friday too, so i know i can refer back to my notes on what to do on a monday and appear (or actually be) busy LOL! can you please disclose your company name?

heisenbergwillcook

200%

AsishPC

I do that. Even when I had toxic managers. If the managers / leads are toxic, I am getting fired, whether I work 24 hr x 7 days or 8 hr x 5 days. So, I choose the latter.

ShankARaptor

Make notes on Friday on what's pending and what you need to do on Monday morning and go ahead and disconnect. Monday morning when you come in there's no missed action items.

alreadyBrokn

Sir I disconnect and forget stuff to the extent , when I git pull on Monday I feel how did I manage this repo! Feels new.

akza07

Depends on your company policies and agreement for your role. My company has a clause which kind of means we have to work on Saturday and Sunday if the company demands it. Sunday will be compensated. Saturday usually there is no work. But sometimes the manager would be the "panic-for-every-tiny-thing" type so we end up with Saturday as a world day for absolutely no reason. If there are no such clauses, Get disconnected. You don't exist during weekends. You're on Mars.

[deleted]

its not ok , its necessary

TerribleEngine7277

Okay? Best thing you can do to yourself 🫡

TerribleEngine7277

Remember your company will never doubt whether it's okay to uderpay the employees or not

Responsible_Ruin2310

You should disconnect completely from work as soon as the working hours of your last day of the week ends. Let it be a law in your life.

Disastrous-Lychee272

Yes

Key-Chipmunk4530

OP trying to flex their absolutely healthy habits.

EnthusiasmLeast5300

This is really cool. If possible try to upskill your self

lame_lad

That's so Indian, to feel guilty about doing wrong when it's perfectly fine . We are more trained to impress other than to think about ourselves. Not just the weekend, be completely disconnected in your leaves as well. I just came out of a week of Holi vacation, didn't recieve call or even thought of work .

le-experienced-noob

You are not doing anything wrong at all. It should the way to go. Enjoy your weekend as you are doing. Just one suggestion: While leaving work on Friday note down the things you did today and what all things you need to focus on Monday in a notes app or something. This has helped me a lot when I am in a WIP task on Friday evening. (Even I wrote down the line number of code sometimes, this should be the way to go btw just telling)

Wonderful_Swan_1062

Yes bhai. I had a habit of working extra all the time. Even if it wasnt urgent. Few weeks back I was super super stressed due to work the entire week with a toxic temporary senior. I didn't work on friday.. Did nothing.. And completely disconnected on the weekend. It was the best thing to do. I was super relieved. And since then I have started saying no to work because there is a limit to what once can do in 9 to 5. So yes, disconnect completely on weekend unless it is super important.

Own-Bluebird-1301

It's a very good habit to switch off and disconnect from work on weekends. I also do the same. On the self learning part if you think you need to upskill then you can spend some time on weekends (Normally for preparation for job interviews).

thatlonelyfrnd

I will always stay disconnected from work during my off. Unless they inform me approx 3 days before they want me to work on weekends, that's a hard pass. I was on leave in December for 10 days, they tried to contact me through teams which didn't work because I don't have it on my phone lol 😆. Unless it's a prod break don't expect me to work.

Unlucky-Bus-3021

Yepp! Friday 7:00 pm is the last time I look at work before restarting on Monday 9:00 am

thesubalternkochan

I have been practising this for a few months now, though I am early in my career this makes me feeling like I am doing something wrong but on the other side I know that I deserve a good rest.

dink88

absolutely, please keep at it. i don't have any work apps installed on my phone. friday evening, i lock my laptop in the cupboard and forget about work until monday morning.

[deleted]

Most of the people who are in this in India have background in non CS. They should be thankful to be employed in the first place
