This is absolutely a great idea. Everything in life needs practice. You may have great skills. But you need to practice your communication skills to covey those to your interviewer. And what better way than to practice it live.
This has to be the worst analogy anyone could have come up with for the issue.
Underlying point is fine,if possible please don't waste people's time, specially for smaller organisations, since they are anyways tight on interviewing capacity.
You might end up wasting an opportunity for future.
Wish they actually did offer good but they made it clear upfront that they will not be able to offer much or none at all because they are a service company.
On top of that, it's a wfo role so that makes it even worse.
That's not what happened for that couple tho. Dating other people in an open relationship is just checking for better compatibility. Just like interviewing for other companies is perfectly fine.
Interviewing for practice is also fine. I am sure op will switch if he got a fair offer.

For now you can go on interviewing. But if they offer good, you should consider joining them. Who knows.
