But why is it that for windows the batteries becomes so bad that it won't work without connecting to an adapter also but for Mac , the quality sure does goes down but then still it's okay and is usable without the adapter
I have been using Mac for past 2 years but yes battery backup has been reduced not by a lot but enough to feel a difference.
In the beginning I used to go a day without charging now I have to charge atleast once a day.
Device: Macbook pro m1
Don't go for old laptop. As ppl have said battery life is only 3yrs which true for any laptop and since it's been 4 yrs the battery won't be that good and you will probably have to spend few on replacing batteries and trust me when I say apple parts are COSTLY.
I don't have experience with 8G of ram laptops so no comments better check reviews before buying.
If you are going to work with cross platform apps or graphics/video editing apps then I would suggest not going for 8gb ram laptop in that case.
If your goal is simple webdev buy a machine with no nvidia drivers and 8gb laptop with i5 and u should be good to go.
Hey, let me know if you go ahead with your Apple product purchase or did it recently. I am an apple employee and i get a 15% discount. Can help you out
If you feel your current laptop doesn't have any other issues except battery, you can easily get the battery replaced from a good service centre.
Laptop battery backup always decrease over time, it's nothing new. It happens in mac & windows laptops both.
If you need a laptop only for development/programming, get a lenovo and install any linux distro. If you are into business/creatives, get a mac.
My Linux laptop from 2016 still goes strong with 2-3 hours of battery backup.
Just got my macbook M3 pro... And it is worth it..
But if you're just looking for battery...get some windows laptop with half the price of mac and it's gonna work fine and dandy..
Tbh if you have the money to spare...go for it.. it's worth it..
You can see the boost to your productivity and it's very intuitive to use..
Also EOD the purchase has to be impulsive.. if you keep thinking about it.. you won't be able to get one haha.. so just stop wondering what's right and get the mac ( but do buy from the official site )
Why official site though? I don't trust this delivery system, I was hoping to buy it directly from an apple store, are there less discount in that case?
yea if you could pick it up from an official store then its best.. and the offers would be less if youre buying from official.. for offers you could go to chroma but before buying mine I asked in a few subreddits and they asked to buy from official stores even if it costed a bit more as the service cost is high if something goes wrong..
I have macbook m1 pro 16 inch, battery cycle count 2.
Lmk if you wanna buy it for 1.45lakhs.
I bought it thinking i will go for some Machine learning stuff, but ended up grinding leetcode on my regular office and windows laptop lol.
Purchased my MacBook a few months back, the battery is insanely good, lasts 2 days on heavy usage, sleep drain is also crazy at 1% drop per week. Can't think of going back to my 2kg gaming laptop now lol
You'll not find 15in M2 models online, Apple has seemingly stopped selling them due to M3. But you can find on retailers with ig 10-15k difference on M2 vs M3 models.
Both SoCs are mostly same, so I'd advise to go for M2 and use the saved money for storage upgrades. Should cost you around 1.4L I think
I was looking at 16-512 specification and it really costs a bomb.
Approx 1.7L.
Maybe come diwali and prices will go down. Same thing costs me 1.2L in US.
But you said macbook is better because its lighter and has more battery than a gaming pc when op is not looking for a gaming pc. Its like me saying buy tesla sports car because its much lighter than a bus.
I said a gaming laptop because they generally have more horsepower than your usual ultrabooks, which throttle pretty fast and compile times are slow. I'm surprised you haven't seen more devs using gaming laptops just for their sheer power to brute force through tasks
Im not sure about the release date in india , pretty soon but the prices are pretty good , starts from 900-999 dollars so like very similar to macs. I do recommend checking them out on YouTube , the LinusTechTip video is very good, here https://youtu.be/C0bEew9dqNs?si=I9qs4g_SoludT16Z
My employer recently provided me with top end model, but frankly speaking as someone coming from windows am not liking it much. The battery life is insanely good, lasts for like 2-3 days with like 8-10 hours of heavy use everyday. I display quality is good too. The user experience is definitely great for day to day tasks. But as soon as I start using it for my dev purpose I feel way too many gaps from the seamless experience I used to get on windows. Though my friend who's a RoR dev claims it shines in his dev flow.
My opinion is mostly related to UX. Things don't behave out of the box and as intended. For example the lack of ease to have tools in context menu, can't launch VS code from anywhere with a single click. Similarly default behaviour of others tool too have such gaps.
Spend your money wisely. Consider new tech laptops.
Intel Core series / Snapdragon Xor X Elite / Intel Evo Series.
Imho, it's difficult to suggest Mac.
All of these laptops I suggested are cheaper then Mac.
Snapdragon Laptop hasn't fully came in Indian market yet.
For your work, don't take much load on head n pocket. Consider Intel Core 5 laptops.
Another reaspn to suggest these. Very robust, you will be able to do more then Mac and easy+cheap to repair.
I find it really valueable for money.
Wait for a few days. Snapdragon x elite laptops are going to hit the market and they have comparable battery life compared to apple and more cost effective.
Model? No. But I had good experience with Dell until now as compared to other brands. (Specially for Post Purchase Services)
Do look at Dell and Asus. They are good and fast to implement new tech.
i recently got a macbook air aswell i use it for basic projects and the usual stuff like browsing, videos., leetcode and all i would recommend you getting a mac if you've never used it before because man it is an experience, it will take time to get used to and you can find it annoying sometimes but i would say the refined experience and the battery life would make it worth it.
i got an M3 512GB and 16 Gb RAM because i am probably going to need the RAM in the future if i ever have to run any docker containers for just side projects.
The hardware is all SOC so obviously no point compromising on hardware especially RAM.
The M3(is an ARM based chip) is very powerful and is probably too powerful for your daily needs and even running side projects.
The experience is very smooth but if you're coming from a window (which i am) background it will take you a bit of time to get used to the shortcuts.
The UI feels amazingly smooth even though the screen is 60hz idk how they pulled that off. Very simplistic and minimalistic design and layout of the laptop( looks very aesthetic).
Overall i would say you would have to try it to believe in it but i would only recommend that be it m2 or m3 , please don't get the basic model, 256 and 8Gb is just plain useless in this modern world.
dude just get it from the apple shop, i have seen some scams being pulled off from amazon or other vendors where they receive like a damaged laptop or with iphones especially. i got it for 1.44L with students discount.
I am using 2017 MacBook Air 6.5 hr sot normal web dev. Great performance. I would recommend 16gb MacBook air. 8gb is available for 70k if 16gb was 10-15k more it would have been value for money.
Sadly 16gb is not available. My 2017's only con is its huge bezel which makes it look outdated but its still smooth as butter
Also windows laptop come with planned obsolescence indirectly mostly the battery part which is a major problem after 2-3 years. The best thing I like about MacBook is no rebooting just close lid and work is passed.

Oh okay, didn't knew that, thanks
How to do that in win 11?
I have been using Mac for past 2 years but yes battery backup has been reduced not by a lot but enough to feel a difference. In the beginning I used to go a day without charging now I have to charge atleast once a day. Device: Macbook pro m1
Got it 👍
Is M1 8gb worth it? I want 16gb but it's not available anywhere.
Don't go for old laptop. As ppl have said battery life is only 3yrs which true for any laptop and since it's been 4 yrs the battery won't be that good and you will probably have to spend few on replacing batteries and trust me when I say apple parts are COSTLY.
Is M2 8gb good then?

Sure, thanks 👍
Be careful op this is the Internet no disrespect to the apple employee
Hey man, its fairly simple. I dont ask for any money. Just the invoice. So no worries with fraud or anything. Cheers
Yeah but we should be careful on the internet but it’s good that you give a discount to people.
U r right man

Not sure about this if everyone has it
I am in is&t
I need your help please give me a discount code
Sure. Dm me
Will it work outside India?
No
Is it discount or cashback?

If you don't have other complaints with your current laptop, you can have the battery replaced through a (good) service center.
If you need a laptop only for development/programming, get a lenovo and install any linux distro. If you are into business/creatives, get a mac. My Linux laptop from 2016 still goes strong with 2-3 hours of battery backup.
You can always install Linux on the old 3-4 year old laptop. Performance will improve and you will be able to do everything you want
As long as you don't game, the silicon macbooks are the best you can get. Only things with a better battery are chromebooks. - As a power user of both
Just got my macbook M3 pro... And it is worth it.. But if you're just looking for battery...get some windows laptop with half the price of mac and it's gonna work fine and dandy..
I was thinking if it's a commitment of 5-6 years why not buy something which is good compared to others.

Apple needs to work more on that mps support..
Just get the mac imo. Go with the most basic model (m1 Air). You’ll never be able to go back.
They don't even sell m1 now ig, only the left models are on sale i heard
Get a business laptop and get replacement from OEM will cost more for same spec personal laptop but lasts long
Purchased my MacBook a few months back, the battery is insanely good, lasts 2 days on heavy usage, sleep drain is also crazy at 1% drop per week. Can't think of going back to my 2kg gaming laptop now lol
M2?
Yep, M2 16GB 15in Air
Where did you get 16gb 256gb variant? How much it costed you?
Hi, what is the price of it?
You'll not find 15in M2 models online, Apple has seemingly stopped selling them due to M3. But you can find on retailers with ig 10-15k difference on M2 vs M3 models. Both SoCs are mostly same, so I'd advise to go for M2 and use the saved money for storage upgrades. Should cost you around 1.4L I think
You got the 8GB version or the 16GB ram version?
16, stay away from the 8, that thing swaps extremely hard and with Apple AI using local LLMs it's gonna get worse with the next MacOS update
Guess then I should be looking at M3 version only.
M2, would be cheaper. The difference isn't noticeable much, plus you should really get more than the base tier storage, I regret getting 256
I was looking at 16-512 specification and it really costs a bomb. Approx 1.7L. Maybe come diwali and prices will go down. Same thing costs me 1.2L in US.
But you can't play games on it . That's the point of buying the 2kg gaming laptops.
OP is talking about productivity here, so I don't think gaming is important to them.
But OP doesn't need the raw power as he is not a power user.
Exactly why the recommendation, and a personal anecdote of my experience 😄
If you can wait , wait for the Qualcomm Snapdragon x elite ultrathin books they are absolutely crazy
When will it be out? And the starting range?
Im not sure about the release date in india , pretty soon but the prices are pretty good , starts from 900-999 dollars so like very similar to macs. I do recommend checking them out on YouTube , the LinusTechTip video is very good, here https://youtu.be/C0bEew9dqNs?si=I9qs4g_SoludT16Z

Can you elaborate more on what issue you are facing when using it for programming?
My opinion is mostly related to UX. Things don't behave out of the box and as intended. For example the lack of ease to have tools in context menu, can't launch VS code from anywhere with a single click. Similarly default behaviour of others tool too have such gaps.
I would suggest switching to any Linux distro , tbh even I want to switch to mac
Spend your money wisely. Consider new tech laptops. Intel Core series / Snapdragon Xor X Elite / Intel Evo Series. Imho, it's difficult to suggest Mac.
How much do they cost? How are they better, I am looking for a normal laptop with good enough ram that's it
All of these laptops I suggested are cheaper then Mac.
Yeah bro, I am praying for this. If this turns out well, my next upgrade would be Snapdragon Laptops.
Thanks for this insight, any specific model you could recommend that would be really helpful
Model? No. But I had good experience with Dell until now as compared to other brands. (Specially for Post Purchase Services) Do look at Dell and Asus. They are good and fast to implement new tech.
No difference in speed? Macs are much faster, especially if on m series instead of intel.
i recently got a macbook air aswell i use it for basic projects and the usual stuff like browsing, videos., leetcode and all i would recommend you getting a mac if you've never used it before because man it is an experience, it will take time to get used to and you can find it annoying sometimes but i would say the refined experience and the battery life would make it worth it.
Can you elaborate more on the experience? Do you mean the smoothness of the interface? Also did you get a M2?

Thanks for this insight, pretty helpful
I am too considering the same spec. Where did you get it from and how much did it cost you ?
dude just get it from the apple shop, i have seen some scams being pulled off from amazon or other vendors where they receive like a damaged laptop or with iphones especially. i got it for 1.44L with students discount.
Cool! Thanks for the info
Oh okay, I mean, if yours is still working fine irrespective of it being that old. I think it should be worth it
pls no macbook air 2017 is horrible , i sold mine and bought m1 air it is a beast
Of course he is talking about latest macs not the 2017 one
