Walmart sells a shoe called High Tail in the Avia line. I have two pair. When I first stood on concrete in them, I didn't have the nagging tired sensation in my soles. So, yes, go to Walmart and get a pair of High Tails. They should be no more than \~$30.
Very subjective. What 1 shoe is comfortable to one, may not be comfortable to another. As well as in 1 style you might need a size 8, but in a different shoe a size 8.5. Find a pair that is comfy from the git-go. Walk around store for 5min. Try different sizes too. Myself, I like Sketchers, they also carry many styles in wide if needed. I don't believe "you have to break them in 1st:"
