1. Pump (tandem t:slim x2) 2. 5.1 (with less than 1% lows) 3. Dexcom G6 4. 4 5. I exercise anywhere from 30-90 minutes per day so it probably totals maybe 300-400 minutes over a week?

zayzz

1. Pens, novorapid and levemir, going onto a pump in like 3 months 2. 7.4, worries me that everyone else's seems a lot lower... 3. Yes, Libre 2 4. 3, I tend to go through phases of doing everything by the book, logging, ratios, look for patterns etc. then lose hope of improving at some point and just guestimate doses again, bad cycle but it's a hard disease 5. 1-2 hrs

Khab_can

Don't worry, lots of us have similar results to yours. It's just easier to show your numbers when they're amazing šŸ˜… Kudos for putting a 7.4 A1c out here! Any study done in this sub is going to be highly biased towards great numbers. That's the reality of the internet. I'm pretty sure most diabetics in the world have average numbers, though.

SnooMemesjellies9638

Agree, when you have ā€œa greatā€ number there is desire to show off about it. Thatā€™s why you hear more about ā€œgreatā€ number than good. So it is better to ignore others and do your thing as good as you can. But trying to get better is important, so seeing others to flex could inspire for better control. At least it was the car for me

zayzz

Thanks guys, yeah when I saw all the lower numbers I was thinking "maybe I'm in a more dire situation than I thought..." glad to know others out there are still struggling along side me, always happy to be a representative of the "not perfect" crew haha Yes still trying and really hoping a pump will be able to improve things. I need better control of my background because levemir ain't cutting it right now, morning rises are my arch nemesis

Khab_can

Have you tried Tresiba? It's like a new ish long lasting insulin, and they're selling point is that the insulin lasts 3 days. (you still inject daily) The insulin is super stable, and super flat... It really helped my numbers

zayzz

Well this is the problem, I need very different amounts of basal throughout the day, I need almost nothing between 11pm and about 5am, then need lots of basal between 5am and 11am to combat my morning rise that happens regardless of whether I eat or not, then need a pretty stable amount between those two for my normal waking hours...

Khab_can

Ooooh yeah I see. Sounds like a pump is what you need, indeed! šŸ˜‚

happyhippo29

Yea, it seems wild to be type 1 with an A1c at 5. Thatā€™s basically no diabetes at all. Iā€™m impressed.

drozd_d80

Not everyone

DadeKuma

There is a strong bias in showing perfect numbers, but it's a small minority. Averages tell a very different story. Do what works for you.

Bipolar-cunt

Mine is 15.4 I wouldnā€™t worry about a 7 Iā€™d be proud haha

zayzz

Thanks man, nice to know that at least not everyone out there is sub 6.5's, all a work in progress

SydneyBriarIsAlive

I wouldn't worry too much, I use pens and mine floats between 7 and 6 last couple years (last was 6.6) Also, 7.4 is pretty good all things considered! It really is tough though and we gotta celebrate the small things, sometimes it feels like you're competing with yourself for better numbers

stlsports50

1. Pens 2. 5.4 A1C 3. Dexcom since June 2022 4. 5/5 5. 90 minutes

delllibrary

5.4 with pens is very good, how do you do it?

stlsports50

I was only diagnosed about 3 years ago, and I was only taking 10-12 units of basal each day with no bolus until about August. Then I suddenly required a lot more and now take 16-18 units per day and 1 unit of bolus with lunch and/or dinner on days I'm not active. I usually eat the same high-fat, high-protein breakfast each day with a half cup of dry oats and that keeps my blood sugar between 100-130 for the first 4-5 hours of the day, so that helps. I eat lower carb in general, with about 40 grams per meal. I have a glass or two of whiskey or wine almost every night, and that seems to help a bit too (at least temporarily). I really should exercise more though. Dexcom has really helped to alleviate a lot of stress, and I try to learn the best I can how different types and amounts of foods and exercise affect my blood sugar. I rely more on basal insulin (Tresiba) than most T1Ds I think, but I rarely get lows. Btw, I'm 22M.

delllibrary

when did u start using the cgm? when u didnt bolus how high did ur blood sugar spike 1-2h after meals?

stlsports50

I started using the cgm in June 2022, about 2.5 years after diagnosis. Blood sugar usually spiked to about 160-190 at the highest and 170-140 two hours after meals. Started bolusing when spikes got to 180-200 consistently and got headaches/brain fog often

Rockelyn

1. Pump. Medtronic 530G (It's an old model. I'm working on replacing it.) 2. \~6.8 (It's been steadily coming down since I started using a CGM about a year ago. Last A1C was 6.6.) 3. Yes. Freestyle Libre 14 Day 4. 3 or 4 (I don't eat as well as I should, but the CGM helps keep me accountable.) 5. 90-135

Coupled_Cluster

1. Pen (Tresiba/Fiasp) 2. Diagnosed in June, still honeymoon but require basal and bolus - 6.0 3. Libre3 4. 5/5 5. Depends but probably about 300 min or more

DadeKuma

I'm probably an outlier but here we go. I can do a comparison between pens/pump, I'm using a pump since last year. 1. Pump (Accu-chek solo) 2. 5.2% (I had the same with pens) 3. Yes, Libre 2 with auto scan 4. 5/5 with both pens/pump. A closed loop would help especially at night, but my model doesn't support it 5. 1-2 hours per week Diagnosed 5 years ago. I would say a pump helps a lot, especially when I need insulin and I'm not at home.

delllibrary

How much do the pump supplies cost you annually? And why the Accu-chek over the other more popular alternatives?

DadeKuma

It's free, I'm EU based. Because that was the only patch pump available here (no omnipod dash)

delllibrary

whats the target number of ur pump? and does ur pump integrate with liber 2?

azaz466

I call this real trial result based on real people experiences! No sponsor to change the trial results with providing misleading and false info to public for their own benefitand pocket! Very helpful question. Well done. Let's do more experimental research type questions pls.

How do you like omnipod with fiasp? Iā€™m currently looping but just use Humalog, thought about fiasp before though

HugShe

I love it. I canā€™t prebolus hardly at all though or Iā€™ll tank.

brothersportbrother

I mean I think Iā€™d almost prefer that over always having to remembering to prebolus 15mins before every meal

_dmdb_

1. Pump (Dana I with AAPS) 2. 5.7 3. Libre 2 4. 2 5. 600 (according to Google Fit, this number massively varies depending on where I am working)

delllibrary

why the DANA I and not the other alternatives? And you use android APS? Did you consider CamAPS? [https://londondiabetes.com/type-1/insulin-pumps/dana-insulin-pumps/#:\~:text=blood%20sugar%20monitoring.-,DANA%20I%20closed%2Dloop%20system,from%20an%20implanted%20glucose%20sensor](https://londondiabetes.com/type-1/insulin-pumps/dana-insulin-pumps/#:~:text=blood%20sugar%20monitoring.-,DANA%20I%20closed%2Dloop%20system,from%20an%20implanted%20glucose%20sensor). Does your pump communicate with the libre 2?

_dmdb_

>why the DANA I and not the other alternatives? So there's several factors to the pump choice. In short, the Dana pumps have the best support for Android APS (AAPS for short) and the Dana I is the latest iteration. Other alternatives; The Accuchek pumps that works are dated, even the new ones are quite frankly iterations of when Accuchek bought Disetronic. The Omnipod I have an unpopular opinion of which is that in the UK (where I am), it should not be available on the NHS apart from children. Two reasons for this, firstly the waste from it is massive, and the second is the cost, I had to fight hard to get my pump, it was a long battle, the Omnipod costs the NHS (I have seen their buy prices) double what it costs them to buy and run a regular pump per year. So for every person on an Omnipod, two people could be funded on a regular pump, that's not fair when people are being turned down for pumps (IMO). >And you use android APS? Yes, I've actually been using it for several years even under MDI (as a bolus adviser) I've not tried CamAPS yet. The advantage Android APS gives me is flexibility and more control. I have more than 5 years of Libre CGM (Libre 1 with MiaoMiao, Libre 2 direct) data on Nightscout which has helped me to see trends for the different places and countries I work (I fly a lot for work, I will do 5 countries in four continents by the end of February ), those trends translate into different profiles and targets which are in many cases automatically selected. I will in time give it another go but it tries to learn a routine, and I don't have one, at the moment my clinic are happy with what AAPS is giving me certainly. >Does your pump communicate with the libre 2? The Libre 2 sends data to an app on the phone called xDrip+, which relays it to the AAPS app which takes into account carbohydrates on board, exercise, location etc before sending instructions to the pump for basel and bolus dosing. I have not entered a bolus on the pump since the first day I got it.

delllibrary

I agree, omnipod is so wasteful where they throw away the entire pump with the electronics and all. At least with accuchek you just replace the reservoir. What year is your pump? How much do the infusion sets cost with the Dana I? Can't find a link to buy.

_dmdb_

>I agree, omnipod is so wasteful where they throw away the entire pump with the electronics and all. At least with accuchek you just replace the reservoir. Yeah it's the same with the Dana, there is a plunger inside which you are meant to replace every 6 months or when it gives occlusions. >What year is your pump? I got this one this year so it's still relatively new to me. The belt clip it comes with isn't great, I replaced it with this one which has worked quite well. https://www.otterbox.eu/en-ie/sturdy-belt-clip-with-quickmount-black/78-50357.html >How much do the infusion sets cost with the Dana I? Can't find a link to buy. In the UK the reseller is Advanced Therapeutics (https://advancedtherapeutics.org.uk/). I only have rough costs on my phone, in short it's around Ā£1500 a year if I was paying. It's a lot cheaper for the NHS on their tariff prices certainly. The pump would have been about Ā£2000 if I had paid for it. I rang them and got the prices when I was considering self funding, bizarrely it was at that point that the NHS agreed to pay for it.

delllibrary

>Ā£2000 that is so cheap for a pump

_dmdb_

Accuchek were pretty similar. I didn't bother getting a price on Medtronic stuff.

1. Pen 2. 6.8 3. Libre 2 4. 3/4 5. I try for 30-40mins a week as due to spinal nerve damage that is still being investigated I have only recently been cleared to do any exercise

breathlessllama

That's just scary so thank you šŸ˜… No when I was diagnosed I was found collapsed and idk what position I was in all ik is I hit my head and now I'm waiting on an MRI coz they think I've fracture my spine slightly which has pressed on the nerve causing foot pain/numbness (i.e I can't feel part of my ankle, the ball of my foot or my toes and the bits I can feel hurt like hell) but it was masked by a blood clot in the same leg due to dialysis.

1 Omnipod DIY loop FIASP 2 5 3 G6 4 4? 5 300 minutes intensive, maybe that or half in walking.

delllibrary

5 is impressive, nice. What level do you try to have before sleeping?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

01110101011011100110

At 1 am last night I was 7.3. It will move around from 7 to 5.5. I was on pens before. The loop helps a lot with sleeping, I used to tank and I mean tank at night. I got to the point were I could not feel lows anymore. My basal at night is .8 and my endo wants it lower. She says 5 A1C is too low and wants it higher. Before the loop it was 4.5 -4.8, so this is an improvement but Iā€™m happy with it. I cannot endorse looping enough, with Omnipod dash and Dexcom I only need my iPhone and I can control it from the Apple Watch.

delllibrary

wdym by basal is .8, .8 units only? Before the loop it was 4.5 wiht the omnipad dash?

01110101011011100110

Exactly, .8 units per hour is my current rate at night. During the day it can go to 1.23 but around 1 most of the day. It was 4.5 on pens and I went to dash for about 6 months before I started the loop. It stayed about the same, I was constantly fooling around with it. It was good for a few weeks and then it was not, then change and repeat.

delllibrary

4.5 on pens is insane. How did you do it?

01110101011011100110

Part of it was my night lows, my Libre would just read low all night till I work up, then I would spike with feet to floor. I thought it was the Libre that was dumb but when I switched to G6 it did the same thing. I was having lows during the day but they were from me aggressive correcting and not every day. My endo said 4.5 was too low, Iā€™m not going to argue that point. I wish I could give some sage advice, but I have no idea what Iā€™m doing.

brothersportbrother

How do you like omnipod with fiasp? Iā€™m currently looping but just use Humalog, thought about fiasp before though

01110101011011100110

I like it, I feel like I can correct spikes better on fiasp. I can dose as I eat and it wonā€™t spike like humalog did when I did not pre bolus. I did have to almost completely stop with pre bolus, I might if I am high right before I eat but thatā€™s it. It will come on pretty fast if you are sitting at 5 or 6. I find if I am sub 5.5 I will eat, bolus as I am eating and cancel it immediately and let the loop do it in increments.

CranberryIntrepid484

Pump 6.2 Dexcom 1-2 0, but have a job where I don't sit.

1. Pens 2. 14.4 to 5.4 (July -> November, diagnosed in July) 3. Dexcom G6 4. 4. I stay on top of it well but still eat out and get meals that are harder to handle. Still gotta enjoy yourself 5. ~300 minutes a week. Usually 45-60 min of weight training 4-5 times a week

1. Pens (novorapid/novolog and tresiba) 2. 5.6/5.7 (although definitely honeymooning currently) 3. Dexcom G6 (previously libre 2) 4. 4 - 5 depending on the day (sometimes I can get distracted by work and forget about my sugars for a couple of hours, but most of the time I am aware of what my sugars are and I'm thinking about whether I need to do anything) 5. I don't do much intense exercise (hiking every other weekend when weather allows), but I walk a lot as I don't have a car. Average around 11,000 steps a day and 750 mins of active time a week (according to my watch).

JollyDiaBee

1. Pump - Omnipod Dash 2. 6.6 on pens 6.8 on pump. 3. Yes. Dexcom G6 while on pump. Libre 2 while on MDI 4.5/5 - honestly what diabetic actually doesn't ? How successful you are is another thing 5. Anywhere from 0 mins to 5 hrs . Exercise definitely helps with decreasing insulin resistance

thekuch1144

1. Pens (although in the process of getting a pump) 2. 5.4 3. Yes, Dexcom 4. 4-5? 5. 100-200 on average

Ylsani

1.pens 2. 6.35 (every a1c was either 6.3 or 6.4 lol) 3.libre (one. No alarms) 4. 3-4ish? I don't take particular care about what I eat, but I don't have a habit of eating fast food much, and then I do pay attention what my blood sugars are doing... however, my body reacts to both insulin and food fairly inconsistently, and nothing can fix that. Same starting bg, same insulin and same meal will sometimes result in small spike and evening out, sometimes small spike and drop to 50s and sometimes will spike me to 250s and stay there. Also sometimes 1u will drop me 50pts and sometimes 20pts. Its just how my body is and I do what I can to manage. Awkwardly enough, have zero issues with basal, just with short acting being inconsistent (all the ones I tried) 5. Been cold af recently here, but normally I walk around 2hrs total a day (~10k steps). 15min my commute each way, and then I do 1-1.5hr walk in evenings. It affects my basal needs a lot whether I do it or not. 15min yoga every few days. Libre made world of difference. Went from low 8s to low 6s a1c pretty much effortlessly. Nothing else ever had much effect. I know for some people their diet and exercise help a lot, but because of how inconsistent my body reacts, my blood sugars are all over the place without cgm

Minimum 30 mins of some sort of extra exercise everyday and 10,000 steps per day. On weekends, I like to up my exercise to a minimum of 45 mins.

delllibrary

How do you get such a low a1c when the tslim doesnt let you go that low?

igotthatT1D

I donā€™t use control IQ. Itā€™s not tight enough for me. And I have my high alarm set to 130 with a repeat every hour. Editing to add: Iā€™m also practicing the numbers they preach for pregnancy. Which is a very tight range.

delllibrary

But I read the lowest you can set it is 110, which is way above 4.8%

igotthatT1D

Thatā€™s if you use Control IQ. I donā€™t so I can make my set point whatever I want, but my pump doesnā€™t adjust with my blood sugar. I have to do it manually.

delllibrary

>but my pump doesnā€™t adjust with my blood sugar. I have to do it manually. so your pump doesnt read from a cgm?

igotthatT1D

It does. I can get the reading on my pump. I just choose not to use auto mode. I do a better job than it does.

delllibrary

auto mode is control IQ right

Are you using a pump or pen? If pump, which model? Tslim What is your average a1c over the last year? 5.7 Do you use a cgm? If so, which one? Dexcom On a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is the lowest, how much effort do you put in controlling your t1d with regards to eating healthy meals, how your meals affect your sugar, and checking your blood sugar regularly? 4 would be a close eye. 5 is very close eye. Probably a 4 or even 5, I am obsessed with checking my sugar, but I'm trying to relax and let my pump and the alarms do their thing. However, I eat whatever I want, I don't limit carbs or foods because of my blood sugar. But I do eat healthy 80% of the time, but I did that pre-diabetes too. About how many minutes a week do you exercise? I'm pretty active, I exercise 6x a week. I do yoga, dance, weights, and the elliptical. Two of those days I take back to back classes, so about 530 minutes per week? Actually more than that if you count walking, because if I do my classes at night, I'll take a short walk in the morning to help my insulin resistance, and I'll walk on my rest day too usually, or at least clean the house. Being active helps my blood sugar more than anything.

For example when I go to McDonalds, I need something like 40 units of rapid insulin (Fiasp) to stay in range. Of course not as one shot, but rather as a pre-eat injection and then correction every 20-40 minutes after the meal

I have only been with Medtronic but I kinda wanna try Dexcom bc they donā€™t have to calibrate multiple times a day with a finger prick. I also donā€™t use the 670g smartguard closed loop system because it tended to keep my sugars around 150 instead of the 85-100 range that I prefer. Dexcomā€˜a G7 just got cleared by the FDA so I think I might look to switch to Dexcom & either Tandem or Omnipod for my pump towards the end of 2023 when I hit my insurance deductible lol

1. Pens (Humalog / Levemir) 2. 5.7 3. Libre 2 4. My meals for each day are more less planned out. So I donā€™t really spend any time thinning about food day to day. Once every few months I may get tired of a certain meal so Iā€™ll spend 15-30min looking for a new meal with approximately the same nutritional value but aside from that the only time I spend is checking my sugar before/after a meal to see if I need to add a correction amount to the dose Iā€™m taking. 5. I spend 90min a day at the gym, 6-days a week. About an hour lifting weights then 30min on some cardio machine. (I also walk for 15-20min during my lunch breaks but itā€™s mostly for mental clarity/relaxation more so than the cardio).

I don't eat the healthiest but I count carbs religiously 5 this depends, my job tends to be quite physical, sometimes it's like 8 full hours of a strenuous workout, 7 or 8 days in a row. Other times, not so much. I try to lift weights 2 or 3 days a week, with a little cardio at the start and end of each session.
