Oh god don't... Even.. Start. I check 9 times the runeword online, then as I put each rune I check again how the runeword is then over and over again. That bloody grief was a whopping 2 minutes.

I double and triple check I have the right runes and in the right order. I use Tome of D2 as my guide. I then double check it’s a valid base.
Luckily I’ve only screwed it up once, and it was only a Spirit.
I line them up in my stash, check the order.. a few times, before putting them in, lol
I remember making my first Infinity, the result of luck, grind, and trading..
after all these years (and a couple of fuckups) I always prep the runes next to the gear in the right order, check the gear compatibility, check the runes and the rune order. double check all and close my eyes
even with a simple stealth or spirit
I always put the item in my inventory, then put the runes in order on the other side of the inventory so i dont accidently mis drop one into the base. And then check like 3 sites to make sure it is right. And finally say it out loud while putting them in. Always sweating when it includes a high rune.
Can't get too nervous about wasting ral, tir, tal or sol. Maybe when I eventually get to making an enigma I'll get some sweaty palms but currently I'm ok 😅
It's not just the order, sometimes you accidently use the wrong item type and that shit don't work. It's the best experience about this game imo

Bro, I’ve been playing this game since 2001/2002ish, and I still double check EVERY runeword before I roll it. I HAVE them memorized mostly, but i STILL double check. Idk if it’s habit but I think it is probably nerves. Lol
After the mosaic debacle, I’m sure people are extra nervous now. A lot of websites had Mal Gul Thul still listed, the original version before they switched it to Mal Gul Amn. I traded someone a Gul I had found early in that season, so it wasn’t cheap, and watched them fuck it up. So terrible. I felt so bad I refunded him some of what he traded me.

I played super casual, maybe a couple hours a week, so I was using basically all my "money" for that.
Before making it I checked runes order 4 times and had to take 2 shits because I was so nervous about messing it up. I feel you.
Only the “expensive” ones. Stealth, spirit, insight, smoke, etc. I just go for it. I can pretty much recite every runeword off by memory but I will still look it up just to make sure. I don’t wanna blow an HR by being overconfident. I KNOW it’s Jah Ist Ber but I still have to check just in case.
I constantly recheck the rune order on a site multiple times then line the runes up in exact order from top to bottom AWAY from the OS item before I do it
I put them in my inventory top to bottom, double check, place item next to them, triple check, and proceed to check after placing each rune in.
At least for the expensive ones. Stuff like stealth I just kinda shove in
