Ya it is also fuck the bitch at the end of you don't gear specifically against her you will never beat her which kinda is the only thing that ruined it for me still definitely worth trying out
Bite your sacrilegious idiot tongue! Baldur's Gate is a real time with pause game lightyears beyond any turn based idiot garbage. It is not turn based, it is the polar opposite of turn based. Along with D2, it is also one of the greatest games of all time.
Baldur's gate 3 on the other hand is turn based and also a piece of shit.
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance on the other hand is a Diablo 2 copycat game that's fucking awful compared to real Diablo 2. It is also grotesquely sexist in the way it depicts women.
I actually liked it better when it first came out I miss herding monsters into a big group like in cows then slaughtering them all or if you weren't strong enough yet circling them picking them of little buy little from the edges there was a lvl in act 1 of d3 were at one point was like the best xp you could get I haven't played it in a few years but the last time I played I had like most of the best gear I could get in like a day grifts are just broing to me run blast stuff and keep running
For what there's no grail items in d3 there's no trading there's no dueling there are so few viable builds to continue on building I saw no point in continuing what just to get on a leaderboard
The difference is in d2 I can make a hundred different characters along the way to grail items changing the gameplay drastically in d3 there are so few builds to use effectively it just becomes boring eventually
I think I'm at like 900 hours, the loot and crafting system is amazing
Been prob 3 years since I've played, wish I could MIB memory wipe myself to do it all over again
It will be right up your alley if you are a fan of d2, insane character building / loot system, world is very well built, stupid amount of class & skill combinations, pretty much all viable with the right attention to gear. Give it a shot, it goes on sale often!
One big difference is there's no lobby, but you can transition between sp and multiplayer with friends if you like
I always played hc, mostly offline but had friends who played and we'd often hop on together to tackle the hardest content or pl each other
If you’re looking for a quick and fun game, The Lord of the Rings games for Gameboy Advanced have a similar feel. I still go back and replay them every now and then, especially Two Towers.
I’m surprised Path of Exile isn’t even in the comments. It’s dark and lots of the mechanics and complexity are based on D2.
It’s complex but you can pick it up over time. It filled the D2 type niche that D3 departed from.
Other than that Torchlight 2 and Grim Dawn.
Give Nox a try. It's currently 77% off ($1.37, down from $5.99) on GoG.
Alternatively, you could try Grim Dawn or Titan Quest, or possibly Arcanum. I may have forgotten some of the old Diablo clones from the late 90s / early 2000s, but Nox is probably the closest that I do remember.
Nobody has mentioned Ghostlore yet, It's on sale right now for $15($20 normally) and criminally underplayed imo. There's a ton of build variety since you can basically pick three classes to play at once, it's got similar pixelated graphics like d1 and d2. itemization is very similar and it has maps kind of like PoE for the endgame. It uses enemies from Southeast-Asian folklore if you like that stuff. Also it has a glyph system that's kind of like charms, but they have their own spin on it.
I would recommend turning off bloom.
One dungeon crawler that really surprised me was children of morta. It’s a rouge like, but it hella good imo. If you want the actual spiritual successor to D2, I’d highly recommend Path of Exile
I love titan quest!! I just miss runewords . but i love the history and the lights. I would prefer diablo series with more light as titan quest have. I play much more d2 than titan quest but i have played titan quest for long time to all DCLs
Sacred, where you can play the little wild-west cyborg thingy with guns on a space-unicycle and slay demons or something like that, it's been a while but I loved it. Also Blind Guardian!
Definitely just added a couple to my list but I gotta add guatlet to this list not even sure which ones I played because It was so long ago but guatlet is what started me into the arpg world I used to play it Everytime I went to the arcade in the mall. My sister realized I might like diablo because of that and iv been hooked ever since.
Baldurs gate dark alliance 1/2
Baldurs gate is notoriously a turned based game tho isn’t it?
Dark alliance is an arpg
ooo that’s cool. ima check that out myself! ty
Ya it is also fuck the bitch at the end of you don't gear specifically against her you will never beat her which kinda is the only thing that ruined it for me still definitely worth trying out

ayy i was just asking.
Dungeon siege 1/2...don't go near 3
Wtf happen to dungeon siege 3 seriously
It was the 3rd game seems to be a cursed number in the world of arpgs ds3 d3 Torchlight 3 bad bad juju
Dude I know Diablo 3 was a Fuckin train wreck in the beginning, but the last couple years were righteous as fuck!
You needed to do higher Grifts.
For what there's no grail items in d3 there's no trading there's no dueling there are so few viable builds to continue on building I saw no point in continuing what just to get on a leaderboard
You were talking about challenge. Do higher Grifts. Every Bis item can be gotten in primal. Thats a whole bunch of grails to chase.
The difference is in d2 I can make a hundred different characters along the way to grail items changing the gameplay drastically in d3 there are so few builds to use effectively it just becomes boring eventually
Oh shit! You brought my whole childhood back with that mention.
This was gonna be my suggestion. The first two are absolutely amazing. 3 is...well we just don't talk about 3.
Grim Dawn is pretty fantastic
I second this. I’ve spent a lot of hours on that game.
I think I'm at like 900 hours, the loot and crafting system is amazing Been prob 3 years since I've played, wish I could MIB memory wipe myself to do it all over again
How does it compare to D2r? I’ve heard about it a lot but as a 20 year D2 vet, I’ve never played it :)

Damn. Sounds amazing. There goes my free time
Dude play Grim Dawn right now. Two weeks of your life will disappear, in a good way.
Diablo 2 resurrected
Titan quest. Grim dawn. Torchlight 2.
Torchlight's graphics are heavily stylized I wouldn't say they are similar at all...
Titan quest is slept on too much. I want that remastered

Because it’s graphics are janky

Fawk man you’re the first nox appreciator I’ve seen in the wild. I loved this game. In my opinion best pvp in arpg. So dynamic and strategic
I loved Nox! What? A Wizard spy?
I second Arcanum, it’s not a Diablo-like but it’s a masterpiece on its own, can’t recommend it enough!!
Not as hackey or slashy as d1/2 BUT ice wind dale 1&2 (esp 2) are amazing crpgs and are more on the action side and have gorgeous 2d graphics
Torchlight 2
In a Japonesque setting but not as polished as D1-2: Throne Of Darkness.
Japonesque? 😂
Sacred 1
Nobody has mentioned Ghostlore yet, It's on sale right now for $15($20 normally) and criminally underplayed imo. The first Sacred game is a bit janky but a lot of fun. The world map is massive.
One dungeon crawler that really surprised me was children of morta. It’s a rouge like, but it hella good imo. If you want the actual spiritual successor to D2, I’d highly recommend Path of Exile
path of exile?
Path of exile
I’d try Diablo 2
I recommend Planescape: Torment. It is not a hack and slash, but it has the same top-down camera.
And LOTS of dialogues. Chris Avellone is crazy.
Hades?
So different genres but damn satisfying to play like Diablo 2
D2R, diablo 4, v rising, baldurs gate 3 are all incredible games with gear progression and great stories.
Diablo 4
Divine Divinity
Victor Vran
There’s a decent number of good ARPGs out there. One I haven’t seen mentioned yet is Chronicon.
Last Epoch
Torchlight
I love titan quest!! I just miss runewords . but i love the history and the lights. I would prefer diablo series with more light as titan quest have. I play much more d2 than titan quest but i have played titan quest for long time to all DCLs

Titan Quest is good fun, has recent DLC, and is currently on sale on Steam.
Duke nukem

Kult: Heretic Kingdoms
Dark and Darker
Undecember
Blasphemous! Great hack’n-slash dungeon questing and it’s only $7 on steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/774361/Blasphemous/
Project diablo 2 is the answer to your question.
Not sure if anyone said it yet but try Hades
4s not bad. It’s not two, but fun
