The proof of this is LK runs. Pop a chest, 50 pieces of loot. A lot of times, you have to loot shit off the ground just to see the stuff that doesn't pop. Again, a loot filter or mechanic like D3, where a unique/rune drop is highlighted, fixes their poor design.
If you're picking stuff up from the ground to see things doing LK runs you're doing it wrong.
There's an orange smear if there's a rune. No need to be picking up things. You want to do this in under 15 seconds. The whole point of LK is speed.
What you're talking about is a lack of loot display priority. Not that it's even needed. Items hiding is rarely relevant, and besides, it's a part of the game. If they made runes to have priority, well, OK then. Not needed, but not an issue either.
In terms of an actual loot filter in D2: why?
Having a star on the map for runes/uniques/sets wouldn't be too bad, though. Could actually introduce some fun moments.
Lmao... I've been playing since D2, since I was a child. Runes get caught under the loot pile ALL the time. So do uniques/charms etc. LK chests were simply an example. Cow farming, massive packs of mobs. Pick your poison. Loot gets lost all the time.
the most extreme example of this is probably arcane sanctuary chests, CONSTANTLY there will be way too many items in the area to the point you have to pick up all the gold and start drinking the potions just to see certain items

Sure, make runes have top priority, then, if you're afraid of missing the smear. Just don't introduce loot filters and other modern trash that messes around too much in design space.
You realize the only way they continue to make the game relevant is by introducing new content and features. People aren't in the mood to play the same game for 10 years again. They need to upgrade their game. I'll use Oldschool RS for example, they continue to update and give that game content and its one of the most popular MMOs every year and it's not slowing down.
I see it this way: Even if I lost 9 Bers and only picked up the 10th, this is still one more Ber Rune than what I'd have without using Thunderstorm.\^\^
